Not had my note 2 that long. But one thing I do notice is when scrolling up and down in Web pages or emails etc... any where that needs you to swipe up and down through text or pictures the screen lags and stutters. Is there anyway of smoothing this out?

Have you tried Force GPU rendering?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
No how do I do that
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
In developer options in settings.

That does seem to have helped a bit Thanks

I also experience a stutter when scrolling through lists. It is very prominent in the Settings menu, if I flick downwards it will always stutter about halfway through the list. Tried forcing GPU rendering, no difference. I also tried enabling/disabling scroll cache (I can do that due to the Omega ROM I am using), also with no effect. I also got the occasional stutter with Touchwiz when scrolling through the home screens, changed to Apex and things are slightly better, but not much. Using Omega ROM v9.1, with N.E.A.K. kernel. I also tried changing the governor of the kernel from PegasusQ to Ondemand, but not much difference there. Power saving mode is off, by the way.
Any ideas? This is getting on my nerves!
EDIT: And here is another weird bit: I downloaded OS monitor to check the CPU usage when scrolling, and when I use the multiwindow feature to have, for example, both the Settings menu and OS monitor at the same time on the screen, I get almost no jerkiness when scrolling.

Hi all just a quick little tip, i find if i have force gpu rendering enabled, the xda app wont display pictures. Today i found if i flip the phone to landscape and back again, the pictures will display.
Its not much but thought i would share.

Thanks man, I was getting quite bugged by that issue. I confirm turning off 'force GPU rendering' causes pictures to display fine in both orientations. With GPU rendering on, pictures didn't show up in portrait and showed when I changed the screen to landscape, but only a moment and then disappeared again. Turning it back to portrait too caused them to show momentarily and disappear again.

Its well known that iOS is known for their almost lagless software. Android has had lag issues in the past and tries to remedy this by improving CPU and size of RAm. But i still sense lag when opening programs sometimes or unlocking my screen or even refreshing a weather widget. Galaxy S3 is supposed to be one of if not the fastest android phones available but still suffers from some of the same problems that the G1 had. O well...i guess google has to stick with the framework they've already written. It'd be nice though if there was an app that measured lag. I know there're several benchmarking apps that measure overall speed but are they any that measure response time of a phone? An app that maybe runs several processes in the background and asks the user to touch the screen. Maybe type a few words using the keyboard or open and close a folder or two...
What apps are you having issues with, exactly? What firmware are you running?
Hate to admit it but I notice lag all over this phone on TW opening messaging unlocking the phone and stuff, on AOKP no lag what so ever. I don't think its Googles doings or code. More so the carriers and Manufacturers that make these phones full of bloatware and their own code.

Unless im mistaken ios seems more 'lag free' simply because it will only run one thing at a time, it cant multitask.
Android can run multiple apps at once.
If android was coded with the same limitation as ios it would certainly feel even faster.

Not apps really...home button lag. Wake/unlock lag... honestly if my phone can play music while i run a game/ browser, im fine with not multitasking.
If you have an ipod touch or iphone, you'll notice that if you try to load a webpage while continuously touching the screen, the page won't load!! Its using almost of its cpu on screen sensors which equals no lag!
For home button lag, double press home then in svoice go to settings and uncheck open with double home press (or something like that)
The lag is because it is waiting to see if you are single or double pressing the button.

Since we are on the issue of lag. Xda has not been friendly to me since I got the phone. If I browse for more the 10 min. It's impossible to scroll through posts its like it ran out of ram and skips top to bottom when I scroll. If I keep trying it will FC on me. Running stock

Hello,
I normally use Dolphin Browser but read on XDA that the Stock Browser is (nearly) as good and offers full-screen, better battery, etc. I tried it yesterday but have a strange blueish haze (as if there was some overlay) over the screen that makes reading quite difficult.
I made pictures but when I make a screen shot, this haze disappears. Photos with my iPhone don't show a lot (...:cyclops. I tried different settings for screen brightness but this doesn't change a thing.
Anyone has this problem or am I missing something.
While I'm at it, how do I change the home page on the stock browser because the menu doesn't offer this option..
Thanks in advance for your help,
Ton
Hi.. its because you have power saving mode activated in settings.
Once you remove that , stock browser will show in full brightness

Anyone else notice the home screen redraw? Granted, it is much better/faster than ICS and prior, however JB was supposed to eliminate the issue. For those that don't know what this is, it is that funky shift that you get when coming back to the home screen from another app. It is most noticeable with a wallpaper that is not a solid color, and widgets. For example, if I am at the home screen and pull down the menu bar, go into settings, then hit the home button, I fly back to the home screen quickly, but there is a 1 to 1.5 second shift from the left and then right side as the screen redraws to fit everything.
The question....is this a result of a custom grid size, or is this something else? I am using Jedi with the 5x5 TW launcher. TIA.
I'm not noticing anything and I'm using the same rom

Have you tried getting off of the 5x5 launcher to see if that fixes it?
i had issues with widgets doing some moving and cut offs when i used that. just a thought.

Yeah, that didnt do it. If you note in the video, the clock widget isn't affected. It is really the wallpaper that is shifting around.

Yeah I tried recreating what you had going on earlier, I had the xda app AND pulled down the notification drawer even, hit the home button, and it was perfectly normal. Does it do it with other wallpapers?

Thanks dude. It looks like it is Jedi Home (TW) that is doing this. I switched to Nova and the problem does not appear. I also just tried deleting a blank home screen page from TW before I switched to Nova, and Jedi Home FC'd. Something is whacky. But I have seen this behavior with other ROM's and launchers too, so...it's a mystery at the moment.

Maybe try doing a clean flash? 3.3 was my very first install of Jedi so I followed all his instructions with full wipe, system wipe etc and have 0 problems.
Might be time, indeed.

No

Yes. I get that a lot with mine. Just scrolling the settings menu is a bit stuttery. Other things can be more so.
Not sure what's doing it and I don't remember it being that way when I first got the phone. Going to do a clean install of my Omega ROM to see if it helps.
Did you add a lot of media to your device making your internal storage go down a lot?

No

Record a video of your lag so we can see if it's indeed lag or you're being too picky
Use Seeder from play store and report back. You must be rooted
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Seeder wont fix your problem. Chrisssss had the right idea. Start over from a clean install or if you have a back up nandroid from when yoi didn't have the problem.

I think this is completely normal for the Note 2 by default. It lags for a fraction of a second when scrolling too fast both on stock and custom Roms based on stock, I even tried overclocking and its still there, I'm using the omega v11 on Perseus kernel 32. I think the solution would be to enable Scroll Cache. There's a mod available somewhere here just search for.it. And if you want to completely eliminate this problem go for a CM based android Rom.

On twitter it is ok but facebook and xda forum has this lag and I notice it more in xda than facebook. Anyone has the scrolling lag here too?
Another note, when checking the notification panel when u slide down there happens a scroll in the selecting options on top it is smooth alright but try this open music player and make a song play or on pause doesnt matter scroll down ur finger to get notification panel u will find a scroll lag in the selecting options the wifi gps etc, when it moves to the right there is a slight lag with music player appearing in notification panel
