(TIP) Xda app not displaying pictures. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all just a quick little tip, i find if i have force gpu rendering enabled, the xda app wont display pictures. Today i found if i flip the phone to landscape and back again, the pictures will display.
Its not much but thought i would share.

Thanks man, I was getting quite bugged by that issue. I confirm turning off 'force GPU rendering' causes pictures to display fine in both orientations. With GPU rendering on, pictures didn't show up in portrait and showed when I changed the screen to landscape, but only a moment and then disappeared again. Turning it back to portrait too caused them to show momentarily and disappear again.

Screen fade?

I have a question in regards to the screen dimming feature. So for example when the screen dims after 30 seconds of inactivity or however long each of you have it. Has anyone noticed that the fade from high to low looks choppy it doesn't seem fluid it kind of stutters to the lower brightness right before the screen turns off. Is this normal.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
That's not normal.. mine fades as it should.. no chopyness or anything
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii/187052-automatic-brightness-still-occurs-when-disabled-also-stutters.html
this is what i meant
Go to settings display auto adjust screen tone and make sure its not checked that should fix it.

I think that is caused when you have it set to scan your eye movements to detect you reading before turning off screen. Its in your settings airborne, GREEN LIGHT, GO

Stock internet browser app dimming?

This past week the stock Samsung internet browser app dims when opened. Then when I close it the phone goes back to the brightness level it was at before opening up the browser. only happens when using the Samsung stock browser. Anyone else having this problem?
Stock AT&T GSIII
Edit: Also wanted to add that this is not happening on my wife's GSIII.

Check display settings. There is an option to change the screen tone to reduce battery usage. Try unchecking that.

Thanks for the reply but just unchecked it and it's still doing the same thing. Even tried toggling on and off auto brightness and it still does the same thing. It's very strange.
Try turning off powesaver.

I'm chalking this up to a bug. I have a friend with an S3 with this exact problem. No amount of settings changing would fix it. I'm pondering doing a factory reset on his and seeing if that fixes the problem.
I was having the same issue. Turning off power save mode fixed it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Its not a bug. I was able to make this happen or not happen by changing a few settings, but I don't remember which ones because I'm on AOKP.
But it definitely is a battery saving feature, so turn off all battery saving stuff and then try it.

The Samsung gs3 browser has its own display brightness settings that are independent of your screen brightness settings. While in the browser press menu and you should see a screen brightness option. You can select between 3 levels of brightness or set your own slider.
Thanks everyone...I found the culprit.
For anyone else having this problem, it is under the phone settings, power saving, I unchecked "Background color" which says "Change background color to save power in internet"

Neat Screen off feature

I stumbled across a cool little feature while the screen is off. Cover the light and proximity sensors for several seconds and the top half of the screen will emit an aqua blue aura that displays missed calls, messages, and battery. I know this feature is somewhat useless, just thought I'll do some digging after it accidentally popped up on me while handling the phone.
Edit: Cool, I didn't realize it was the Quick Glance feature. Thought I was going crazy when I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it.
Hmm I do not see that

Doesn't happen here, either. Is this some kind of buried setting?
I could see this being useful if it could detect your phone is in your pocket, and when you pull it out, it would show that information.
It's in settings - motion - quick glance.
Then if you scroll down while still in motion to advanced settings there are more options for it in there.

Yeah I found it, very neat. I turned it on, I'll see if I continue to like it or if I find it annoying.I turned on a few more motion features. Why not try them?
The phone must also be laying flat (like on the table for example) otherwise it doesn't work.
Yeah it doesn't seem to be too reliable plus the info goes away too fast for me

thanks for this...no more pressing the power button when my phone is on the nightstand just to see the time or battery...etc...nice feature
Cool.

Does turning this on have and detrimental effects on battery life? Does it get activated accidentally in your pocket?
Love it. Wish it was faster, though. My screen turn on lag is not good

I noticed you can press the touch keys in those few seconds while the screen lights up and it will make the drip sound... little annoying in the middle of the night.

Don't think it would do much damage to the 3100mAh battery. I'm still getting over a day's use, at least 6 hours of screen on with the quick glance feature on. According to others, it only triggers if the phone has been laying on a flat surface. So I think it'll be just fine in our pockets.

Screen stays on ALL NIGHT

I dont know if anyone is facing the same problem I have now, my n2 screen wont turn off by itself. I have set the timer on 15secs, smart stay disable. It juz wont turn off when idle. And if its fully charged, it will stay up all night as well.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Does it relate to my Omega rom or Redpill kernel?
Thanks
Do you have motion on?

I was just discussing the same in some other threads here. I tried everything up my sleeves and nothing helped. Do post if you've already found a fix Thank you

experienced this after upgrading to 4.1.2 weeks ago. backed up everything, complete-wipe then reflashed my rom(always on stock). no more issues. must have been a hiccup.

I had this even when I was on 4.1.1. Thought the upgrade would solve it for me but it didn't. Tough luck. Still searching for 3rd party apps that could give me a permanent solution.

I dun have a fix to this problem but I have a tasker profile that turns the screen off when battery is fully charged. You might want to try that as an interim.
What is your screen time out once mine was changed automatically check that
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
There's a button on the side for that
Just kidding, that's very strange. I noticed if you reboot the phone and don't touch it, when it comes on the screen never turns off either. Doesn't matter if it's plugged in or not.

I dunno if I'll be able to use tasker. I've not rooted my phone I'm still a noob and dunno if I can pull all that off on my own ^_^

I had that problem when using smart stay and smart rotation settings turned on in display settings. After I turned them off the screen shut off after 30 seconds as it should every time.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Yes I noticed when 'smart stay' is turned on it causes the screen to stay on all the time. It's not a perfect feature. So I've turned it off
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
do you have the power option to stay on whilst charging?
It's not smart stay, not the screen rotate with your head thingy nor the developer option that keeps the screen on while the device is being charged. I turned all that off. This is clearly a big that I've had from 4.1.1. Can't get rid of it. Annoyance at its peak.

Are you saying that the screen just won't turn off, or that it turns itself on and then won't turn off?
If it's the first, my guess is an app which prevents the screen from turning off, didn't release its lock after being shut down. This can happen with some games, I've seen it with angry birds and jetpack joyride, titanium backup has done it too. Try to empty ram and kill processes, and/or reboot, though I would guess you might have tried that already.

If doesn't turn on on its own. When the bug kicks in, the screen doesn't go off if it's manually turned on or If a missed call or message is left unattended. Hope you got that. But yes, I can turn off the screen manually but doing that every time is ridiculously annoying. The bad thing is I cannot know if the bug is active or not without actually watching my screen till the timeout. Annoying bug! I've tried various things and I do not know what's causing this. I'm on stock rom, never rooted.

Try this: Boot your Nexus 7 2013 in landscape with the volume buttons facing down.

Yes, just as the lock screen comes up, but then it seems fine. Strange.
BS...
u mean with the screen facing the ground? or the volume buttons near the ground, im confused, maybe a pic/vid would help
The launcher FC'd but after acknowledging the event everything is fine.
A video showing the issue being reproduced may be useful so we can identify it.
The second time I tried this I noticed when the glowing x was about to be replaced with the lock screen the x dropped to the bottom center of the display, as if the height on the display was two times the actual size.

I got the glitch, but it didn't really seem to affect anything on mine. It straightened itself out almost immediately and the normal lock screen came up.
I noticed this glitch today, but like the others said it doesn't really matter much since it corrects itself right away.
I wouldn't call it a "glitch", more like an annoyance, that happens to the Nexus 7(2012) as well. The bootanimation/logo is supposed to be portrait, but as the tablet start up it tries to move to landscape mode, but since it's a portrait image it moves that way, making it look like something's wrong but it's not. You can change the lockscreen to not rotate and stay in portrait or don't hold it landscape while it boots up, in that way you won't see it again.
Edit: Also happens to the brightness level, it's just the tablet starting up.
