Fastboot flash a recovery. Why did you format? Should only need to wipe things when flashing a new ROM
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Well, you should have flashed after the complete wipe. Why did you reboot before flashing the rom?
Anyway, you should be able to go into recovery, or download mode at least. Your phone is now just empty, no SO, but nothing else.

in your debt

So you dont have a recovery anymore? Maybe because you wiped system? If you dont have a recovery anymore, you will probably have to hook it up to a computer and start over. Try the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit.

Just grab the gnex tool kit and use it to flash cwm

CM touch should still be there.
Hold Vol Down + Vol Up + Power and youll see the bootloader screen. Press vol down twice till it says Recovery Mode and press power. Youre back in CM Touch now

How to go back to stock?

I was running darkside evo 2 and wanted to go back to stock to flash his new rom. I followed the directions HERE. Once the phone odin's back to stock, I get a bunch of force closes and cannot get past the android screen. I tried going into recovery to wipe data, cache, dalvik per the instructions but I cannot select any of the options. WHen I press the power button it does not do anything. help!!!!!!
You need to wipe your phone completely clean before you proceed to use Odin to flash...
At this point I'd do a factory data reset clear everything.. old info is your foe.
Edit: try try again in the recovery
What can you do on your phone?
Did you flash CWM recovery yet
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
1Flash dark sides full wipe.
2Go into your setting do a factory reset.
3 run Odin and flash the stock file.
4 (just in case) once back to stock run an extra factory reset and wipe all files.
This works for me and makes sure it deletes all older files.

I flashed the CWM and I was able to go into recovery and flash the liquid rom. And now it doesnt turn on or even vibrate when I try to power it on. Nothing on the screen. And when i plug it into the computer a message asking me to format the Drive. And screen doesnt turn on or show the charging indicator when I try to charge it.

I installed CWM with odin and I was able to boot into CWM recovery I wiped data and cache then install LIQUIDSMOOTH rom then latest gapps and restart.Nothing shows up on the screen and no vibration or anything.
I got the phone for about 8 months. Should I send it in to Samsung or try one of those jtag repair service. Their description says they can repair hard brick devices. Has anyone tried it and are they reliable?
if you have CWMR installed you should be able to just turn off your device and turn it on hold both volume up and down once the CWMR comes up take your fingers off the volume buttons.
EDIT: if you can access the CWMR find the proper ROM for your device put in a SDcard and put the SDcard in your phone and boot up CWMR and install from zip from sdcard following this to install it correctly.
I normally do...
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
go to Advanced
Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe battery status
Fix permissions (just incase)
Reboot Device
wait about usually 3-8 minutes depends on the ROM. if it's longer then that then your stuck in a boot loop
this is all on done on CWMR v6.0.1.5
Same thing happen to me. Now my phone won't turn on

[Q] I think i softbricked my galaxy s3.... help please?

Hello, i am a new user here i came into this forum to get help from people.
I was messing around with r/w and r/o related stuff and accidentally moved something in permissions in a folder named /system i think it read something like rw-r-r after i moved it but that wasn't the format i saw before i moved it also everything started not working as soon as i pressed apply for example (Unfortunately -insert any app or program here- has stopped working)... please help
Also my phone vibrates when its connected but no LED lights are on.
Although the orange light did turn on ONCE and the charging battery too when i rebooted or turned phone off from recovery mode... i don't know how it happened
Here is what is happening to my Galaxy S III phone (SPRINT 4G LTE)
I can go into download mode
I can go into Recovery mode
Odin3 doesn't detect my phone (i assume its cuz i moved the r/w and r/o stuff... and jacked everything up)
Wiping data doesn't fix anything
Neither does cache

Does your computer recognize the phone? You have recovery, which 1? if you can see your internal memory and external sd, you should be able to copy ROM and flash. after wiping completely. of course.

Thats the thing i dont know how to wipe davlik and reflash a rom
Wipe dalvik cache: Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe cache: Mounts and format > Format /cache
Reflash rom (you really shouldn't be messing with stuff if you dont know how to reflash your rom):
Boot into recovery and go to Install > Navigate to folder where your rom is stored > Select it > Confirm / Hit yes / Hit install and slide the bar (TWRP only)
Wait for it to finish, then reboot
It's all in recovery. And just some advice, you shouldn't do anything to your phone unless you know how to fix it. I use twrp recovery and all wipe options are in the wipe menu.

problem is that there is no Advance option. I think my phone goes into its normal Recovery mode. i think the root that it had doesnt work anymore.
The root can not change because you messed with permission, also you should be able to go into your custom recovery, which one do you have? Do you know how to 3 finger into recovery? If you can get into recovery first thing I would do is wipe dalvik, wipe cache and fix permissions and see if it boots. If not then what everyone else said flash a Rom.
Are you sure that is all you did?

Yeah I think he means that he has stock recovery...
If you can get into download mode, just flash a stock rom and start from scratch. Or you can ODIN a custom recovery and then make a backup so that at least your data is safe

Volume down power and home gets you into download like you are now., you want volume up, power and home to get into custom recovery. If you rooted your device properly you should have CWM or TWRP installed as one of the two available custom recoveries.

Ok i installed odin3 1.85 and got a CF autoroot.tar file (idk if i can post full file name)
Odin detected my phone perfectly, applied the .tar file using PDA i just waited how it told me i never touched the boxes on the left unless it told me to.
Then my phone went black and some letters came just like a normal successful root.
My phone rebooted and went home rooted.
it worked perfectly i was satisfied until today i accidentally moved those permissions dealing with r/w r/o Rw-r-r on the folder /system.
Ok to clear thing up you rooted your phone for the first time so you were on stock rom and never applied a custom recovery . Correct?

EDIT 2:
Looks like when i connect it. it vibrates and every time it vibrates it disconnects or something cuz the messages of (Device not recognize) Keep popping up and the computer makes a noise as if something connected.
You do have the drivers installed on the computer right?

[Q] Trouble rooting SGH-T999

I'm absolutely confused with how to root my SGH-T999 properly. I know I'm suppose to use the search function and read everything and anything before I post a thread, but I'm seriously overwhelmed with what's what.
So far, I'm trying to follow this guide, but when I go check the md5, it says it's not a match between the file I downloaded and the md5 # on the download page. I figured that since my phone is 4.1.1, I should use this image, but again, I try to check the md5 sums, but it comes out as not a match.
So I'm super paranoid that I might mess something up and brick my phone.
I'm betting you checked the md5 after extracting it. The md5 on the download page is for the file exactly as you downloaded it.
You don't have to worry about an update 'path'. You can get the latest and flash it as per the instructions.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
Oh thank god. Yeah, I was checking the extracted file. Thanks for clearing that up.
One more question: Let's say I want to use CyanogenMod 10. Once I've rooted my phone with this method, I could get ClockworkMod recovery (via ROM Manager from the app store) and download the CM10 mod and install the CM10 that way?

Yeah, you can use TWRP or CWM to flash roms. It's preference. You don't HAVE to have CWM to flash CM10.
I never used TWRP, but I'm absolutely content with CWM. Hasn't failed me once. Don't fix what's not broken, right?

Alright ****. I think I messed something up.
I installed ROM Manager and downloaded CM10. I then went through the options of rebooting it and installing. But now it's stuck at a spinning circle with "CyanogenMod" in the center. I have no idea what to do or how to get out of it. I've tried forcing it to power down by holding down the power button or doing the three button press (volume down, home and power), but either way, it just shuts down, vibrates a little and reboots itself back to the spinning logo screen.
EDIT: Ok so I've pulled the battery and went into recovery mode. Then I "wiped data/factory reset" and I think I got it to work now. It seems to be at the CM10 home screen now

[Q] 4.3 Update, Stuck in CWM Recovery Loop

I woke up this morning to find that I had a system software update. I thought it might be the new 4.3 update that's been getting pushed out so I select to install the update. After the phone turned off to reboot, my CWM recovery screen popped up and stayed there. I recieved a message telling me that the update failed to complete and now I'm stuck in this never-ending loop. I've wiped the Delvik cache, I've done a factory reset/wipe cache and have rebooted the system multiple times. Does anyone know what I should do? Anyone else had this problem? I've heard that Nexus users are experiencing issues with the new update.
It's not 4.3

It might be CWM that's causing the update issue.
Press and hold the Power button for 20 sec. That should turn it off. If it still loops, turn it off again, try to get into recovery or download mode. If recovery, flash a stock Rom. If download, well you know.

-install zip from sdcard
-install zip from sideload
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
Any ideas?

If you have a backup on your SD you could restore. If you have a ROM, install it. Make sure to wipe /system, /cache, /dalvic, and /system. I'm not sure about CWM, but the wipe system might be in mounts and storage, or advanced.
If you have nothing on your SD, you'll need to sideload a stock ROM. Get the odexed or deodexed roms.
If nothing works go to the teeny bin thread, under Additional info will show you how LGNPST.

Everytime I choose RESTORE, the device seems to respond but throws me back at the initial screen. When I select "reboot system now" I never actually exit CWM-Recovery. That's the part I don't understand. Sorry if this is confusing, I know you're being helpful.

OK. If restore won't work, then try installing a stock ROM. If not on your SD then use that "install zip sideload. " Your other options are to use teenybins or zvb/zvc.bins through LGNPST.
