Hello, i am a new user here i came into this forum to get help from people.
I was messing around with r/w and r/o related stuff and accidentally moved something in permissions in a folder named /system i think it read something like rw-r-r after i moved it but that wasn't the format i saw before i moved it also everything started not working as soon as i pressed apply for example (Unfortunately -insert any app or program here- has stopped working)... please help
Also my phone vibrates when its connected but no LED lights are on.
Although the orange light did turn on ONCE and the charging battery too when i rebooted or turned phone off from recovery mode... i don't know how it happened
Here is what is happening to my Galaxy S III phone (SPRINT 4G LTE)
I can go into download mode
I can go into Recovery mode
Odin3 doesn't detect my phone (i assume its cuz i moved the r/w and r/o stuff... and jacked everything up)
Wiping data doesn't fix anything
Neither does cache

Does your computer recognize the phone? You have recovery, which 1? if you can see your internal memory and external sd, you should be able to copy ROM and flash. after wiping completely. of course.

Since you can get into recovery just wipe cache and davlik and reflash your rom.

Thats the thing i dont know how to wipe davlik and reflash a rom
Wipe dalvik cache: Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe cache: Mounts and format > Format /cache
Reflash rom (you really shouldn't be messing with stuff if you dont know how to reflash your rom):
Boot into recovery and go to Install > Navigate to folder where your rom is stored > Select it > Confirm / Hit yes / Hit install and slide the bar (TWRP only)
Wait for it to finish, then reboot
It's all in recovery. And just some advice, you shouldn't do anything to your phone unless you know how to fix it. I use twrp recovery and all wipe options are in the wipe menu.

problem is that there is no Advance option. I think my phone goes into its normal Recovery mode. i think the root that it had doesnt work anymore.
The root can not change because you messed with permission, also you should be able to go into your custom recovery, which one do you have? Do you know how to 3 finger into recovery? If you can get into recovery first thing I would do is wipe dalvik, wipe cache and fix permissions and see if it boots. If not then what everyone else said flash a Rom.
Are you sure that is all you did?

Yeah I think he means that he has stock recovery...
If you can get into download mode, just flash a stock rom and start from scratch. Or you can ODIN a custom recovery and then make a backup so that at least your data is safe

Oh ok that kind of gives me hope i guess... and as for the the root i had Supersu. I do know how to go into recovery mode/ODIN mode its volume+/volume-, home and power. Odin3 doesnt detect it though. Also i cant go into advance there is no option for advance like i mentioned earlier. There is only 4 options
Rebootsystem now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

Volume down power and home gets you into download like you are now., you want volume up, power and home to get into custom recovery. If you rooted your device properly you should have CWM or TWRP installed as one of the two available custom recoveries.

Ok i installed odin3 1.85 and got a CF autoroot.tar file (idk if i can post full file name)
Odin detected my phone perfectly, applied the .tar file using PDA i just waited how it told me i never touched the boxes on the left unless it told me to.
Then my phone went black and some letters came just like a normal successful root.
My phone rebooted and went home rooted.
it worked perfectly i was satisfied until today i accidentally moved those permissions dealing with r/w r/o Rw-r-r on the folder /system.
Ok to clear thing up you rooted your phone for the first time so you were on stock rom and never applied a custom recovery . Correct?

So I had the new evil rom V7 installed already, but I noticed the media server thing eating up a good bit of battery, so I wanted to wipe everything from my phone. I ended up wanting to encrypt everything then wipe the phone so I everything would be gone. I moved my backups off my phone, and my pics and all that as I didn't think stuff would go wrong. Anyway partway through the encryption process it failed, said it had to reset the phone and that that would wipe all user data, and to try to encrypt again, well every everytime I tried to reset(it was the only thing the phone would let me do) it would end up giving me the same message.I wiped data/factory reset in hopes that I could then see install via external sd as an option, cause I couldnt see that. I now can get to clockwork recovery but am unable to install via zip, and it doesnt show my external sd card as an option. In panic of trying anything that could help me, in cmr I wiped the system data, and cache, but yeah I dont know if theres anything that can be done. Any sugguestions?

I installed CWM with odin and I was able to boot into CWM recovery I wiped data and cache then install LIQUIDSMOOTH rom then latest gapps and restart.Nothing shows up on the screen and no vibration or anything.
I got the phone for about 8 months. Should I send it in to Samsung or try one of those jtag repair service. Their description says they can repair hard brick devices. Has anyone tried it and are they reliable?
if you have CWMR installed you should be able to just turn off your device and turn it on hold both volume up and down once the CWMR comes up take your fingers off the volume buttons.
EDIT: if you can access the CWMR find the proper ROM for your device put in a SDcard and put the SDcard in your phone and boot up CWMR and install from zip from sdcard following this to install it correctly.
I normally do...
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
go to Advanced
Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe battery status
Fix permissions (just incase)
Reboot Device
wait about usually 3-8 minutes depends on the ROM. if it's longer then that then your stuck in a boot loop
this is all on done on CWMR v6.0.1.5
Same thing happen to me. Now my phone won't turn on
Blue gs3, rooted, stock ROM, I think...
New phone & I've never delt with a rooted phone. I'm so lost, how do I find what ROM I'm running?
Here are my 2 main problems
When I try to go to more settings under wireless & networks I get message
Com.android.phone has stopped working
The phone isn't recognized by my pc.
I believe it's the ROM and/or an MTP issue. (I've tried KIES, GS3 toolbox, & neither with just the drivers installed)
Would a older ROM that uses UMS fix this?
I need simple solutions if possible.Would it be sound to try to unroot & go back to stock?

Also, it may be relevant to note that when I got the phone, I took it to Sprint to swap #'s. They had to factory reset it to get the Wi-Fi and/or 3G radio's to work...
Sent from my SPH-L710
I would say basic steps.
1. Boot to Recovery
2. Wipe Dalvic Cache
3. Wipe all Data, System
4. Reflash your 'stock' rom
This process you will lose all programs/data on the phone.

First off, in your settings: About Phone, you'll be able to see what ROM (version, baseband, kernel, etc.) you're running.
Second, do you have a custom recovery installed? The easiest way to find out is to turn your phone off and boot into recovery (hold the buttons for Volume Up, Home, and Power until the phone powers up). The two custom Recoveries available are CWM and TWRP. If you have either of those, this might be the best way to fix your issues is to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Reboot and see if these issues are resolved.
Now, if you want to mess around with anything else in recoveries, it's best to make a nandroid backup of your current setup. It's easy to do with either recovery (look for "backup" menus).
If the above doesn't work, you can try to clear (or wipe) data. This will wipe your accounts, settings, apps, etc. but will leave you with a "stock" ROM. While it would be a pain to re-setup the phone as you like it, it's better than a full wipe.
If none of the above works, the final step would be to flash the Stock Rooted ROM by Freeza. If you download it on your computer, you won't be able to copy it over to your phone (because of the issues you stated in OP). But, you should stil be able to connect through your recovery. Since I use TWRP, I'll walk you through the menu's for that (CWM should be similar).
Connect USB cable to computer -> Mount Menu -> Mount USB Storage.
Now your computer should see a "removable disk" with the contents of your SD Card on it. Now you can copy the ROM you downloaded over to the SD Card.
Now that the file is actually on the phone, you can flash the ROM zip in recovery. Whenever you do this, it's best to do what is called a "full wipe" in the recovery. You'll lose all your apps, settings, etc but it's relatively easy to get it back (through Google Play, accounts, etc). In TWRP, what I always do is the following:
1) Nandroid backup: I normally name it something along the lines of "2013-03-14 - ROM NAME - ROM VERSION." This way, when I look through my backups, I can easily see what I was running (what I'm restoring when I want to restore).
2) Wipe Menu - Factory Reset. This will wipe all custom data off of the phone. For me, this is a must before flashing any new ROM. Other people will "dirty flash" Roms on top of each other. For me, that's a recipe for disaster, as any leftover settings/code will inevitably interfere with the new ROM and will mess things up.
3) Wipe Menu - Dalvik Cache and Cache: If I recall correctly, the Factory Reset does both of these, but it doesn't hurt to do it again.
4) Install: This is where you find the ROM zip file you downloaded and install it. Should take less than a minute, but some larger ROMs could take a little longer (not 10 minutes, though).
3) Wipe Menu - Dalvik Cache and Cache: Again, not technically required, but I tend to wipe the cache and dalvik cache very often.
3) Reboot Menu - System: Pretty self-explanatory, but it'll reboot your phone and you can set it up all over again.
Let me know which one works.
I wiped the dalvik cache, that fixed the com.android.phone error in the wireless settings menu!
Did a complete wipe and flashed the stock rom by frezza,
Wiped again and am now running darthstalker x,
Still no change to the USB connectivity problem with either ROM
Damn MTP looks like there is no work around.
Maybe Wi-Fi data transfer is my only option.
This is my first non stock ROM, and the only problem I'm having so far is that it won't charge after being powered off. Not too bad I guess!

Cabling matters. I have two USB cables. One works, one doesn't. (The one that works is the thicker one... more shielding?)
Also, as you totally sure that you have the right drivers installed?
Here's a list of troubleshooting tips even though you've tried some
1. try different usb ports
2. Uninstall and reinstall drivers
3. Try different usb cords
4. You can also download mobile Odin and flash things that way. It's the same thing as doing it on a computer just on your phone.

when ever flashing always use a thick heavy duty cable I recommend BB cables
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Ca...d=1364055777&sr=8-1&keywords=blackberry+cable
The best cables i have found for our phones are actually made by logitech. I found them because i used to setup their harmony remotes for BBY. the nicer remotes use Microusb and the cable that they include with it is INCREDIBLE. It is night and tight, and very well made. this is all i could find online. but it is this exact cable.

HI Gang....I rooted my note 2 from sprint using the toolkit.......worked well for about a week....then I downloaded a rom for the S translator......Ever since I did that, I cant download anything, the play store force quits and rom manager is not working as well..... I used the toolkit to reflash the root image but no luck...I have deleted the previous apps and reloaded with same results......help! I was using cynaogen 10.1......now i cant do much HELP!!!!!
My suggestion, go into the app manager and force close google play store and clear data. Then reboot to recovery and fix permissions.
If that doesn't Cut it, flash a TouchWiz rom. My recommendation is macksrom 5.0 with perseus kernel.

You need to boot into recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik and then reflash your rom (unless it's a rom that says not to flash data). When you have problems with force closes, as the person above says, you'll need to manually go into the app's info from Application Manager and delete the data for the respective apps you're having trouble with.
Then boot into recovery again, clear cache and dalvik only and fix permissions then reboot into system.

Sounds like you have a corrupted system partition or some other sort of data corruption. You'll need to sbf back to a stock setup and start from scratch.
I woke up this morning to find that I had a system software update. I thought it might be the new 4.3 update that's been getting pushed out so I select to install the update. After the phone turned off to reboot, my CWM recovery screen popped up and stayed there. I recieved a message telling me that the update failed to complete and now I'm stuck in this never-ending loop. I've wiped the Delvik cache, I've done a factory reset/wipe cache and have rebooted the system multiple times. Does anyone know what I should do? Anyone else had this problem? I've heard that Nexus users are experiencing issues with the new update.
It's not 4.3

It might be CWM that's causing the update issue.

If you have a backup on your SD you could restore. If you have a ROM, install it. Make sure to wipe /system, /cache, /dalvic, and /system. I'm not sure about CWM, but the wipe system might be in mounts and storage, or advanced.
If you have nothing on your SD, you'll need to sideload a stock ROM. Get the odexed or deodexed roms.
If nothing works go to the teeny bin thread, under Additional info will show you how LGNPST.
