Once again extremely impressed with my Note 2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

So today I went to the gym and decided to sprint in the back on the gym to get warmed up. Put my Note 2 in my wasteband on my shorts and underwear, hoping it would stay snug. It didnt. It slid out and hit the asphalt while I was running at my fastest. Bounced multiple times and flew apart (battery as well as battery door). I picked it up fearing the worst, but to my suprise it had some good scratches on the battery door and some scrapes on the bumpers. Cracked screen, you say? Nay! Not even a scratch! Picked it up off the ground face down too! Look at my pictures below. I don't know how you guys are dropping your phones and smashing the screens but mine just survived a serious beating.

Lucky you. but trust me, note 2 is very fragile.

I've had this Same experience.. Mine busted apart lol. I was pretty impressed

I was completely surprised that my screen was untouched. Gashes in the back don't bother me, I've got an aluminum battery door coming in the mail today. Also ordered a massive case. The Note 2 is so sexy without a case, its a shame that we have to cover up these gorgeous phones to protect them.

I love mi new phone (Note 2) my iPhone 5 is on the box, i will sell that to some friend...
It's hard to return to apple phone, by the moment.
Cheers!

Glad it made it safely. I have a cruzerlite on mine but sprung for Best Buys protection. Supposedly covers anything but lost or stolen. So plan to go naked

that is good news. I guess my cracked digitizer yesterday, from falling off the recliner arm against the vinyl frame of the sliding glass door, onto carpet was a fluke. I hope it doesn't happen again. I had a friggen Otterbox defender case on it as well.
Total drop was about 2 and a half feet at an angle. It didn't help that I attempted to grab the phone and ended up knocking it with my hand so that it hit the frame quicker.

That is really weird. Seems like Otterbox would have some kind of reimbursement plan seeing as their case didn't work. I know they have a lifetime warrantee on them. I just bought a case off ebay. $12 and it looks just as beastly as a defender, but cooler IMO.

I tried multiquote but it wouldn't open for some reason. Probably one of my settings.
Yes, it is extremely weird and it would be great if Otterbox had some type of plan where you would get some money back, but I easily see how the system would get abused.
The bad thing about the Defender case, is that the lip around the face of the phone is comprised of the hard inner shell. The outer shell is mated to it but it shock absorbing as opposed to the hard plastic lip. This hard plastic lip sits directly on the glass face of the phone. So all impacts to the face of the phone that hit the defender case, have most of their energy transferred right to the glass. I would bet a paycheck that if this hard plastic lip was not there and there was just the hard rubber or a better design where the hard plastic was not contacting the face of the phone, that my phone would have been fine.
It is also possible, as I have mentioned in other posts, that the Defender case flexes a great deal and that the impact, that was not absorbed by the softer rubber material, was transfered through the inner case. This may have caused too much flexing along with the impact and caused the multiple cracks.

Glad to see that it worked out for the OP.
I am not looking forward to the day when I drop mine. Note the "when" and not "if". I've pretty much dropped every phone I've ever owned (never had any major damage though as far as screens cracking or whatnot), chalk it up to clumsiness or sheer bad luck.
I'm being ridiculously careful with it until the case I ordered arrives, but it's pretty much heart attack city anytime this thing decides to slip around even a few millimetres in my hand.

Sounds like a pretty serious design flaw lol. Sucks too because that case costs a hefty $50. Me thinks ebay might be the way to go in the future. I haven't looked at how much replacement screens are but I'm sure they are well upwards of $200. I know one for my OG Note was $250 and this one is much more sophisticated.

[REVIEW] Ballistic SG MAXX

Hey XDA just thought I'd put this up incase anyone is shopping for a case. I've had this case for a little over two months. I am a college student, I love bike riding, and this case goes with me everywhere. It has been an awesome case to have, it's saved my phone from MANY nasty falls while bike riding and running in and out of classes.
Fit:
The case fits the phone perfectly. Every cutout and button is done right, and I haven't had any issues with charging port or the headphone jack. The rubber on this case is a nice tight fit; it hasn't gotten loose on me during all this time of constant in and out of my pocket. The lip that this case has is awesome, it provides awesome protection for the screen when it falls face down or even just laying it flat on tables or wherever.
Look:
Well the case is a very rugged manly case. You can tell you have a serious case when you look at it and everything about it screams protection. I have the white and black one which to me looks awesome (although it would look better if I had the white S3).
Protection:
This is the most important part of owning a case like this. The case offers awesome protection for your phone and you certainly won't be scared of dropping your phone with this bad boy. The rubber absorbs impact perfectly and again that lip makes protection even better. I haven't really used the screen protector much because I personally don't like them BUT it is awesome! I did not loose any sensitivity on my screen and it's a bit thicker than you would expect so great protection there.
Overall I really enjoy having this case. It goes with me everywhere and keeps my phone very well protected. I should add that it has survived 3ft, 5ft, and 6ft drops easily. It even survived a nasty experience where my girl flung it at me when I got her mad
EDIT: 10/29
I was riding my bike today on some rocky trails and I forgot I had my phone in my jacket pocket. So I dropped the phone and saw it fall face down on some pretty nasty rocks Fortunately I decided to use the screen protector today Well the screen protector got a bit scratched but my phone is perfect! I barely got the white GS3 so it would've gotten me mad to break it after just two days with it lol
I love the SG Maxx. My only problem with it is pressing the back button in the lower right hand corner. The silicon case gets in the way sometimes, but eventually you get used to it.
Lol I had that issue the first day but I trained myself to use the left thumb for it and never had that problem again.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
How loose is the case if you don't use the provided screen protector? I already have the glass spectre, so I'm not sure if they will play nicely together.
It's actually not loose at all. I have been using it without the screen protector and it's awesome. For a while I had an antiglare protector with it and it didn't peel or affect it in any way

Me likes it!
One potential problem I see is that the case is too raised near the sides of the screen, which might make it difficult to touch that are.
Other than that, I'd use have like this on my phone.

Now that you mention it the sides were a bit of a problem the first day; it was the same issue as the back key. That was quickly solved by using the opposite finger to touch that side though. It was a small change of habit but worth it for me.

I'm returning my Otterbox Commuter in favour of this Seidio Active case. (I've only had my N2 for a week).
I know the Otterbox is much better in terms of protection but I find the slick hardshell combined with its size makes my N2 hard to hold.
Hopefully this Seidio Active provides enough protection in case I drop my phone onto the floor.

Cars can get pretty hot inside with windows rolled up in heat of summer.
95degF can lead to an inside air temperature 149degF + in just 15 minutes , Longer the car remains unopened the hotter it gets you can bake cookies.

Im in the SE USA were temps rise to 110degF so I'm thinking those cookies would take half the time lol

If you think the seidio active is gonna be less slick, I think you're in for a surprise. Though I've never used the commuter, I was using an active before the defender came out, and I kept feeling like it was gonna slide out of my hand. Not to mention how loose the rubber part is.

I've had my Seidio Active for several days now. Way better traction than the Otterbox Commuter. Nowhere near the protection, but certainly more practical.

I really woudn't be surprized if she did all this the same day, or within a few hours. Theres no way ANY piece of glass could go from frozen to baked to being kicked around without breaking LOL.
In vegas we had glass just break sitting outside on the glass truck at 120 degree in mid summer

I agree. I had an Active before the Defender. The Active is much more slippery, stick with the Otter.
I can verify from first hand experience that his phone does not take even a small drop onto a hard surface well. My first one slipped out of my pocket and fell no more than 30 inches onto pavement and it looked like it had been ran over by a dump truck. Get a case and never look back folks.

Mine scratches easily and has flaked off in some spots like near the head phone jack.
I didn't bother with skins I figured after the glue hardened it would pull the paint off anyways if I tried to remove it so I don't see the point.
Cases are enough for me as I can't see it anyways with one on.

On my previous phone (an Infuse), I had cracked chrome near the micro-USB jack. But my Note 2, after almost three months so far, with no case, has no scratches on either the glass or the chrome.
I belive it is in the design. Samsung intended it to be soft plastic in order to absorb shock. So any lil bump can nic the paint off.
I put my Skinomi on as soon as I got it. Sooo, hopefully not.
Yea mine has a few battle scars. I wish that samsung would up their build quality a bit. Coming from an HTC Inspire (Milled Aluminum Body) the cheap plasticy feel was quite a shock. But overall I love the phone and eventually got over all the plastic.

FIX: Otterbox Silicone Stretching

I've had an Otterbox Defender for my S3 now for quite awhile. The silicone over the plastic shell always seems to stretch over time causing a loose fit. I know you can contact customer support and have a new case sent to you from Otterbox, but I figured there had to be something to tighten the silicone up. After browsing the web, I heard that if you boil the silicone for a few minutes in boiling water, it will tighten it up. I figured I'd give it a try and it actually did work, the case now fits like it did when it was new.
How long did you boil it? I stopped using my defender because of this issue
Boiled it for about 2 minutes. If your silicone is stretched too far though it won't go 100% back to normal. It will help though that's for sure!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I went with the body glove tough suit because I don't like how the otter box distorts the screen with that rainbow effect. No stretching yet but if I have that issue I'll use your idea.

HAHA BUDDY!!!! Same thing here! I love my BodyGlove ToughSuit!!! Gray/White Version Here! I got sick and tired of the OtterBox Warranty claims, however this is the first device I've had the stretching issue with an OtterBox...
I also had the same issues, solved them (temporary) by heating up the rubber in a microwave. Well, the rubber still started to stretch again after some time, I contacted Otterbox and received a brand new Otterbox Defender which still looks very good. I´ve removed the screen protector though
Ive just stopped using my defender because of this reason, and I won't buy another one again because of it.......... thought they were supposed to be the best.......
Well, unfortunately there is hardly a similar case available which 1) offers some protection and 2) looks somehow decent and fancy enough the be used on a daily basis.
There are some similar chinese cases available which also offer a hard plastic shell and some rubber around...but look in my oppinion rather ugly than a regular Otterbox Defender.
Have a look at this one : http://www.amazon.de/yuba-RoboCase-...1367166500&sr=8-2&keywords=galaxy+s3+survivor
Since the support was kind enough to me, though I bought my case used in another board and didn´t receive a invoice, I may still consider to use other Otterbox Cases with other devices.
The stretching isn't the only flaw with these cases. The clips that hold the two plastic portions together also seem to break after awhile. Guess you can't complain too much when they send another free though.

I've used cases since my Nokia 5120 days. You can baby your phone all you want but you can't account for pure accidents. You might be holding it when some kid barrels into you from behind, causing your phone to go flying onto the concrete. Plus there's normal wear & tear to worry about too- you may *never* drop it but no device is going to remain pristine after 1-2 years of daily use. You WILL get scratches, rub marks, chips, etc.
I refurbish phones for a living & I can always tell who's used a case & who hasn't, even if there aren't any obvious signs of a drop. We get SO much more money for phones that were kept in cases, in fact half of the jobs I do consist of swapping good components into non-wrecked housings.
I dunno, it's all about choice, but you'll never catch me without a case. Too much here worth protecting, IMO.

What if you don't need to trade in your phone or re sell it to buy the newest phone? I usually always give my old phone to my nieces, nephews, or a family member.
I've never really used a phone case, and all my phones have always been in excellent condition. Of course, back in the day I'd have a phone clip on, but that was during the motorolla days.

I always keep my phone for a year and then sell them on eBay in the condition of 9/10 or better. If that accident does ever happen, then we'll, it's not the end of the world lol. To me it would be worth enjoying a naked phone...
It's like what's the point of having a nice slim phone when your just gonna slap a hefty case on it. Idk, I guess it's all personal preference.

Only a week when I first got it, it stays in an otterbox to keep it sexy for resale.

I don't take any chances after the two shattered Samsung epics I went threw. Keep this bad boy in the otterbox.
