[REVIEW] Ballistic SG MAXX - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hey XDA just thought I'd put this up incase anyone is shopping for a case. I've had this case for a little over two months. I am a college student, I love bike riding, and this case goes with me everywhere. It has been an awesome case to have, it's saved my phone from MANY nasty falls while bike riding and running in and out of classes.
Fit:
The case fits the phone perfectly. Every cutout and button is done right, and I haven't had any issues with charging port or the headphone jack. The rubber on this case is a nice tight fit; it hasn't gotten loose on me during all this time of constant in and out of my pocket. The lip that this case has is awesome, it provides awesome protection for the screen when it falls face down or even just laying it flat on tables or wherever.
Look:
Well the case is a very rugged manly case. You can tell you have a serious case when you look at it and everything about it screams protection. I have the white and black one which to me looks awesome (although it would look better if I had the white S3).
Protection:
This is the most important part of owning a case like this. The case offers awesome protection for your phone and you certainly won't be scared of dropping your phone with this bad boy. The rubber absorbs impact perfectly and again that lip makes protection even better. I haven't really used the screen protector much because I personally don't like them BUT it is awesome! I did not loose any sensitivity on my screen and it's a bit thicker than you would expect so great protection there.
Overall I really enjoy having this case. It goes with me everywhere and keeps my phone very well protected. I should add that it has survived 3ft, 5ft, and 6ft drops easily. It even survived a nasty experience where my girl flung it at me when I got her mad
EDIT: 10/29
I was riding my bike today on some rocky trails and I forgot I had my phone in my jacket pocket. So I dropped the phone and saw it fall face down on some pretty nasty rocks Fortunately I decided to use the screen protector today Well the screen protector got a bit scratched but my phone is perfect! I barely got the white GS3 so it would've gotten me mad to break it after just two days with it lol

I love the SG Maxx. My only problem with it is pressing the back button in the lower right hand corner. The silicon case gets in the way sometimes, but eventually you get used to it.

Lol I had that issue the first day but I trained myself to use the left thumb for it and never had that problem again.

How loose is the case if you don't use the provided screen protector? I already have the glass spectre, so I'm not sure if they will play nicely together.

It's actually not loose at all. I have been using it without the screen protector and it's awesome. For a while I had an antiglare protector with it and it didn't peel or affect it in any way

Me likes it!
One potential problem I see is that the case is too raised near the sides of the screen, which might make it difficult to touch that are.
Other than that, I'd use have like this on my phone.

Now that you mention it the sides were a bit of a problem the first day; it was the same issue as the back key. That was quickly solved by using the opposite finger to touch that side though. It was a small change of habit but worth it for me.

Good drop protection but over time the port covers become loose. I have had it on my phone since day 1 and I have dropped on concrete and wooden floors from about 3 feet and it has held up well

Back cover scratching/staining?

I always use a gel case on my galaxy s yet the back cover still has scratches and sort of smudges which don't go away. It's hard to explain. How do I get rid of them? Where can I get a different range of back covers?

If you're using a case and the battery cover now has scratches, I'd probably blame the case. It could be rubbing against the battery cover and scratching it.
You can purchase battery covers on eBay. Just search! They should be fairly cheap. If you find any good ones, post the links.
Same problem here.
I have to clean up silicone case and battery cover everyday to avoid scratches.

It's probably just the material of the case, as I'm sure not everyone with a case on their phone has to worry about and deal with this.
Personally, I don't use a case and have zero scratches on my phone, screen or body.

Same here, maybe the rubber casing is getting debris inside that are eventually scratching the back?

Yep. This is exactly what's happening.
It's not just scratches though. On the pattern bit in the battery theres some sort of staining. It's hard to explain what it is. l suppose it looks like dried glue

anyone use screen protector?
I am using the screen protector and I can say that it is very first thing a man should do to the phone. It is very hard to put one, as the smallest piece of dirt (between the screen and protector) is seen as big bubble ... Order the cheapest ten pack from Ebay because you will destroy couple of them before you install it perfect.. I had those on my sgs for year, and it was scratched as hell..

it is grease, comes from hands. Clean it worth HIGHLY DILUTED alcohol or wet wipe then with microfiber cloth..

Sent from my GT-I9000T using xda premium
I don't think it's grease because it simply does not come off. And the corners of the screen always attract dust
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've tried using baby wipes but it didn't come off
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well if it doesn't come off, what the heck did you put on your phone? Maybe it's a questonably cheap case and some weird plastic/rubber/alien residue from it has stained your phone? Provide pictures maybe?
Sounds strange, especially since you can't clean it off.
It looks like dried up snot lol but it isn't. I can't be the only one who also finds that the screen attracts too much dust especially in the corners and edges

I don't notice dust at all on my device, ever (unless I'm in working in a really dusty place, which happens, but I generally don't have my phone on me when I am). This could be just a geographical difference though.
Fingerprints are another story. Those are annoying. Dust, however, I don't even notice.

The Sgs screen is gorilla glass which is scratch proof so does not need a protector.
It is possible to scratch with the right tool but the pressure needed will go straight threw any protector too.

Same here
I took the cover off and scrubbed it with a little soap,no effect.
If you look closely, you can see that those places are somewhat 'eroded',like somethings eaten away at it.
Maybe moisture build up?

Toughest case for e4gt

So im about to start snowboarding this year and i will be using my phone on the mountain for both texts and music. I dont want to ruin my day by landing on my phone and trashing it so i would like a few recommendations of cases that could hold up to the impact of me falling on it, whether that be off of a jump, doing jibs, or going off of a few cliffs.
Thanks in advance!

I would say Ballistic. The only weak point I see is no holster to protect a screen. In normal conditions screen should be protected, but in your situation rock or something will still hit the screen.
I am usually pretty careful to turn the screen towards my body in all cases as a precaution. Also bulk is no issue as a will only be using it for snowboarding purposes, i have a barely there for every day use. What i would like however is something that will actually come on and off since i will switch cases back and forth

If a holster is needed to attach to a bag or something the siedio convert may fit the bill
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Sounds like the Seidio Convert would be perfect for you. You can use the Surface case for your everyday use, then throw the outer skin and skeleton on when you need it. The Convert also has port covers, which the Ballistic SG does not have.

How is the grip on the ballistic? I want something that I'm not afraid to drop on the lift from it being too slippery.

I think it is individual. If you have big hands you'll be OK. You have to stop by corporate Sprint store, and ask'em to show it to you. It is what I did this weekend, and after that I went back home and ordered it on ebay. Still waiting.

[Q] Would the ArmorSuit Military Shield Full Body protect my all of my S3?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00849E17M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
It's full body so it covers the phone. I already have my phone in an Otterbox Case which is sort of getting annoying since the rubber is now stretching. So would this protect my phone to where I could take it out of the Otterbox and not have to worry about it shattering(Including the back not only the screen.) whenever I drop it?
All it will do is help prevent scratches.

So the back can still bust or crack if I drop it really hard?
That's just a phone skin - nothing near what an Otterbox or even cheap silicone slip case can provide. Consider it scratch protection only. If you drop it, it will be just as likely to cracking or break open as if you had nothing on it. It might prevent little broken glass pieces from flying all over, but it'll still break. I had one like that on my previous phone - but it was only for looks and scratch protection - nothing serious, now that I have a more expensive phone, I wouldn't use just a skin.

Personally dislike those. Too much work to get them perfect. Then they start to peel, get discolored, and make the touchscreen harder to use. Oh, and the air bubbles. And if you have dogs, dog hair.
Yeah they are only screen protectors not an actual case. Plus I never understood the infatuation with having a screen protector on the back cover of the phone, where there's the really cheap plastic and it's also replaceable. Basically just get a TPU case and add the screen protector.

Note II's chrome bezel scratches real easy?

I've had a case on my note II ever since purchase, when I took it off, I see tint scratches around the phone. Is it just me or are others are experiencing the same thing?
Thanks for your input guys.

Happened with note 1 so this time around I put best skins ever wrap around it before putting it in the case.

Yup -- it is what it is.
Mine scratches easily and has flaked off in some spots like near the head phone jack.
I didn't bother with skins I figured after the glue hardened it would pull the paint off anyways if I tried to remove it so I don't see the point.
Cases are enough for me as I can't see it anyways with one on.
Stop worrying, it will happen some way or another and enjoy your great phone!

On my previous phone (an Infuse), I had cracked chrome near the micro-USB jack. But my Note 2, after almost three months so far, with no case, has no scratches on either the glass or the chrome.
I belive it is in the design. Samsung intended it to be soft plastic in order to absorb shock. So any lil bump can nic the paint off.
I put my Skinomi on as soon as I got it. Sooo, hopefully not.
Yea mine has a few battle scars. I wish that samsung would up their build quality a bit. Coming from an HTC Inspire (Milled Aluminum Body) the cheap plasticy feel was quite a shock. But overall I love the phone and eventually got over all the plastic.

FIX: Otterbox Silicone Stretching

I've had an Otterbox Defender for my S3 now for quite awhile. The silicone over the plastic shell always seems to stretch over time causing a loose fit. I know you can contact customer support and have a new case sent to you from Otterbox, but I figured there had to be something to tighten the silicone up. After browsing the web, I heard that if you boil the silicone for a few minutes in boiling water, it will tighten it up. I figured I'd give it a try and it actually did work, the case now fits like it did when it was new.
How long did you boil it? I stopped using my defender because of this issue
Boiled it for about 2 minutes. If your silicone is stretched too far though it won't go 100% back to normal. It will help though that's for sure!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I went with the body glove tough suit because I don't like how the otter box distorts the screen with that rainbow effect. No stretching yet but if I have that issue I'll use your idea.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It should do the trick for your case as well. Hopefully it won't stretch like the otterbox to begin with.

Done this also. But immersed only for a minute. Then went to a cup full of cold water.
Dont use tongs when getting the case off the water as it will ruin the shape of the case. As the case is sensitive when its really hot.

HAHA BUDDY!!!! Same thing here! I love my BodyGlove ToughSuit!!! Gray/White Version Here! I got sick and tired of the OtterBox Warranty claims, however this is the first device I've had the stretching issue with an OtterBox...
I also had the same issues, solved them (temporary) by heating up the rubber in a microwave. Well, the rubber still started to stretch again after some time, I contacted Otterbox and received a brand new Otterbox Defender which still looks very good. I´ve removed the screen protector though
Ive just stopped using my defender because of this reason, and I won't buy another one again because of it.......... thought they were supposed to be the best.......
Well, unfortunately there is hardly a similar case available which 1) offers some protection and 2) looks somehow decent and fancy enough the be used on a daily basis.
There are some similar chinese cases available which also offer a hard plastic shell and some rubber around...but look in my oppinion rather ugly than a regular Otterbox Defender.
Have a look at this one : http://www.amazon.de/yuba-RoboCase-...1367166500&sr=8-2&keywords=galaxy+s3+survivor
Since the support was kind enough to me, though I bought my case used in another board and didn´t receive a invoice, I may still consider to use other Otterbox Cases with other devices.
The stretching isn't the only flaw with these cases. The clips that hold the two plastic portions together also seem to break after awhile. Guess you can't complain too much when they send another free though.
