Phone no longer recognized, otherwise everything else works fine. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

My computer doesn't recognize my phone anymore, charging works fine, phone works fine.
I tried every ROM I could download thru ROM manager and Goo manager, I just couldn't get it to work.
I would try to flash stock through ODIN but the computer doesn't recognize it =/
yes, I tried this on multiple computers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try another usb cable?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

yup, 3 different cables 3 different computers

Is it still under warranty? If so, see if samsung will replace it.

no other solution eh...?

Not that I can think of. Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

Computer no longer recognizes phone

Had some trouble flashing a while back and ever since my computer and 2 others I tried will not see my phone. I can go into odin download mode but odin of course doesn't see it either. I have used different cables, ports etc.. It also charges fine. Got a jig and while it works it didn't fix the problem. Installed and reinstalled drivers, still nothing. Thanks to mobile odin I can still flash...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have the drivers from Kies installed by chance? If not that could be a very good reason it's not seeing the phone.

sounds like something a windows user would say.
i would double check what drivers you're using
I thought kies installs the right drivers. Strange thing is that it used to work fine. Will look for other drivers.

I went through the same problem a couple of weeks ago. No matter which drivers i installed, or computer i plugged the phone into nothing would recognize my epic touch.
The phone is still under warrenty, so i took it to sprint, and they tried plugging it into every computer they have in the store. Nothing... The phone would charge, but that was it. So i got a replacement the next day. Usb works perfect now. However the gps is weaker in this replacement :banghead: ... Ugh.

[Q] USB Jig question on hard bricked GSM gnex.

All,
I am a 3rd party and was given a phone to try and fix. I've tried OMAPflash & SDK without any luck. I was told the person did an OTA and something about a bootloader and could have potentially dropped the phone. I was told they stated the phone wouldn't charge and then died and didn't turn back on; we've tried another battery with no luck. The phone does not power on or respond to any button combinations, but when plugged into a computer; it fails to recognize the device...even with drivers installed; so the computer can see it, it just won't load the drivers. I don't want to spend tons of money fixing a phone that isn't mine but does anyone know if a USB Jig works on a phone that's hard bricked to the point where it has no power? No fastboot or adb, neither read the phone. tried multiple computers.
My last resort is this USB Jig. Also, no warranty from sammy. I feel like i've tried everything.
Thank You in advance.
I used a jig to recover a friend's S3 after he flashed an international S3 ROM and it wouldn't boot or do anything so I suppose it could work.
Your last resort *is* the jig.
Go for it, do you know how to get one?

My lastttt resort is paying $50 for someone to JTAG it. I know where to find one. Will report back.
Edit: jig ordered. Should be here in two days.
Edit: 1/12: got the jig, no dice; but it works on my GSIII. Going to send the phone in to get fixed.
Thank you all

Question about using jig on GS3
hELLO,a simple question: what state was your GS3 in when you used the jig...? I am not concerned about the other phone just the GS3... Was your GS3 turning on at all??

Did you do this [OMAPflash] without battery? Also note that it's normal for the computer to beep repeatedly (usb connected usb disconnected...) until you start the flashing program.
Did you see OMAP in the device manager at all?
You guys realize you are posting on a thread 6 months old, right?

Restoring rom (stock/custom) on phone with broken USB port???

Well topic says it all. I have a phone that has a busted port. I tried to one click restore back to stock when the port died so not only does it have a bad port it failed during flashing so it can't even boot up. What options do I have?

Questions go in Q & A forums.
How do you know port is bad?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Depends on where in the process the flash failed, it could be hardbricked or may need to be jtagged to rewrite the bootloader. If it won't boot into download or recovery mode and only has a solid blue led then its toast. Otherwise with a bad port and no OS you dont have many options. I honestly dont even think there's a way to flash something from stock recovery without a USB port or OS to move the zip into cache so stock recovery can flash it. And the only other option is Odin which again without a working USB won't do you any good. And like blues said questions go in Q&A you know Q(uestions)&A(nswers)

Sorry about wrong forum.
The phone can go into recovery and download mode. I am assuming the port is broke BC I can't charge the battery through it and the computer doesn't recognize the phone when plugged in and in download mode.
This is what I feared! So phone is pretty much a paperweight. Arg...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Well I take it back, I think only a couple pins in the port is broken BC I can use the USB jig to get the phone into download mode. So the port is not completely broken. I don't know what pins are used for whatever process but charging and data sync no gooo. I have tried several dif cables including the Samsung one and a blackberry one.

Tried a different usb cable? Maybe the male pins are borked. I had one that got slightly bent and it wouldn't charge for sh*t but would let me transfer files just fine go figure

Well then you are screwed. Good luck getting a new phone if $40 is too much to send it out, get it fixed and have it back where you can flash it all day long.

Downgrade Without USB Connection

Is this possible? Is there a way to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 without a connection to a PC?
I have a Rogers Note 2 on 4.1.2, and need to get to 4.1.1. The USB connection does not work.

It physically doesn't work? Or your computer makes a sound and knows *something* is plugged in, but doesn't know what? If your USB port is physically damaged, it's an easy fix and like $20 for the part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3rvuwJ0GpQ
If I plug in the USB connection, it starts charging, it knows its getting power. The phone does not show the normal dialogs when connected to a PC, and the PC does not do anything at all either.

Dial *#7284# while it's unplugged. Make sure both UART and USB are set to PDA. Then hit QUALCOMM SETTINGS and make sure it's set to MTP + ADB. You don't need to reboot.

That didn't work. I think it's hardware, but was hoping to confirm it or not.

Make sure the Samsung Drivers are installed on your computer as well.
Well like I said. It's a $20, 5 minute fix with no soldering. I literally just bought an otherwise mint T-mobile Note 2 from eBay with the same issue for 395 because the fix takes 5 minutes and is cheap.

Yea but that isn't the replacement for a USB connection that doesn't charge, mine charges just no data connection of any kind.
How do I know this will fix it.

So if it's not physical damage, then it's just software. Reinstall the Samsung USB Drivers. Trust me. The fact that your computer knows something is plugged in means something.

Thanks.

? What is your reason for downgrade? Ya wanna unlock it? With the hidden menu? Well if your able to get into recovery, then you should try downgrading your modem if your trying to perform the unlock!! I've read and confirmed that downgrading the modem will give you all the menus you need to perform the UNLOCK!
And next I noticed you did not try your phone with another computer/laptop to see if that one sees your phone!! If not then move on to the replacement part! If you have insurance then do a warranty exchange. Easy as that. But I would try what Fred ^^^^^ said reinstall the Samsung usb drivers.

First you'll need to locate the original modem for your device I317m. Not sure where to find that, SEARCH is your friend. But I'll start you off start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986480
But you didn't state if your were trying to perform the unlock or just want to downgrade... Just curious is too why you want to is ALL...

I want it to be unlocked for any carrier. Though the USB issue is a major issue, the other issue I have is WiFi does not work unless I do a setting change after each reboot. Which can be fixed with a downgrade.
The main thing is getting it unlocked.

Ok then first find the modem you have now, and the original modem. Flash and c if you get all the unlock menus to come up. I'm quite sure you know the code already...
Here check this thread out where I helped someone with there unlock by downgrading modem. Fyi

Do you have root? You can flash a custom recovery onto your phone, from your phone as long as you have root.

No fast charge or pc recognition

So multiple chargers won't work on PC and will not fast charge so I can't update or go back to stock and it takes 5 hours to charge. Sprint replaced the charging port but it didn't change anything. Any ideas? I've tried multiple 5.1.1 roms and kernels but that's about all I can do it seems. Oh and I tried a full factory reset. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Guess I'm the only one lol Hopefully someone has an idea, I'll be stuck with this phone for another year on 5.1.1 haha
Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
So tried flashing via Flashfire and the Bootloader didn't go through. It's a brick now, I still have download mode but no PC with any cable will recognize the device still. So I'm probably going to "upgrade" to a Nexus device. I've never had so many issues with a Samsung phone, so I'm going to stick with something more stable lol
