“Samsung Canada announced today the upcoming availability of the latest update for the GALAXY Note II smartphone, which offers Multi Window allowing users to interact with two separate applications simultaneously.
The OS update (Android 4.1.2) gives customers the ability to personalize and customize their smartphone experience and interact with two apps at the same time. Samsung Canada now allows GALAXY Note II customers to change app positions within the Multi Window in addition to having the capability of using Pop Up Video while using Multi Window.
Also, included in this software update is the inclusion of both simplified and traditional Chinese language support. Easily accessible from the device’s settings menu, the software can change the language for most menus and applications and also support handwriting of Chinese characters to be transposed into text.”

Finally they get around to it lol. The guesses as why Samsung Canada delayed though was because of those kernel exploit and possibly the sudden death brick bug as well. So even though they don't say so, hopefully the update includes those fixes.
UGH! My phone still hasn't gotten back from the service center though, dyeing without my Note II, on the upside though It should be returned to me with whatever is the latest firmware so hopefully I see it in the mail by the end of this week and it has the update on it >.<
I was going to do a system dump of whatever firmware they put on it to for others to have but might seem a moot point now if the update goes live to ppl next week. Unless the one I get is a beta build beyond what they release *fingers Crossed* hoping for the best Lol.
grr, i already rooted and now my phone can't recieve OTA updates without me flashing back to stock and wiping the phone. I hope Sammobile gets the new rom when its released so that i can update via ODIN. I noticed that they still don't have the new AT&T update...
Apparently this update improves the already stellar battery life. Anyone with 4.1.2 confirm?

If it's anything like the ROM I built for mine (using LL7 as a base), yes.

It's not a huge difference... I mean, you're not going to milk an extra 2 hours out of it or anything, but that being said it doesn't seem to drain quite as fast (tested with a full charge cycle). Again, this is based off of a custom ROM (pretty much stock with the hubs removed since they don't seem to like modified ROM's anyway) using N7105XXDLL7 as a base with a modded Rogers CSC (provides APN settings, a couple of specific tweaks for the network, and the My Account app -- everything else was stripped out). It also seems to fix the issue where screen power saving mode wouldn't immediately turn off if you disabled power saving (animations were a bit sluggish).
As for the official update... we will have to wait and see.
Want the new modem more than the old 4.1.2 they will give us.

This is exactly why Jedi rom is my jam. I highly suggest everyone check out the new version. Comes with rom toolbox built into settings.

LJ5 was a 4.1.1 build if I remember correctly, and this update is supposed to be 4.1.2.
So I got my phone back from the service center today. It only came loaded with 4.1.1 LJ5 sadly. For some reason the multi-window wouldn't even work either.
Even worse the service center damage my phone and left a gash on the bottom, and they didn't even replace the battery which was the problem in the first place... So now its back off to them to fix the damage they did, just ridiculous...
Hopefully the update coming out next week isn't an old LJ5 Release from an October build that would be insanely retarded.
Supposedly its to be a 4.1.2 release build from December. Here's hoping for it :/

Didn't look, was too busy being pissed at Samsung for the damage to my phone. So beyond the about section on my phone I didn't look at anything else.
I've already made a ticket with them, and its been sent off to them again. Wasn't thinking about other information or dumping files.
@Dazog
If its supposed to a 4.1.2 release it wont be an LJ(number or letter) release, the J in the firmware = October build, if its a December 4.1.2 release it will be an LL something release. A lot of the international Note II's released with LL4 so I'm expecting that one or an later build. Just half to wait and see >.<

Yes, you are missing something. Google does not push out the update to all yakju builds at the same time. It can take seconds or MONTHS (yes, months) after the first update was pushed out.
Take matters into your own hands and flash it yourself. See the update link in my signature.

Thanks for your reply. I may just do that.
Can you shed any light on my question about if the carriers can hold back the update somehow?
They seemed to do this with my Galaxy S2 which is totally unbranded/unlocked, this only got the ICS update last week, even though Samsung released it weeks ago and other locked phones had it sooner.

I don't think they do/can. Google pushes out the update, so I can't see how the carriers would hold it back.

Considering that Google pushes the update and you can accept it over WiFi with no cell connection, I don't see how the carrier can hold it back.
I think that Google holds the updates back due to the signal loss issues in the past. But that is reason enough for me to root my device today.

Ok Guys so i gonna give you a 'small update" info about 4.1.2 news for those individuals who own a SGN2 and cant upgrade or dont want to upgrade to a higher version "yet" because of whatever reason you might have.
Now first, please read this if your weren't able to upgrade your SGN2 from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via OTA or Kies.
Please dial *#1234#
This should be stated on your SGN2 as follows:
AP: N7100XXALJ3
CP: N7100XXALJ2
CSC: N7100DBTALJ2
If you got the same context as listed as above then you got yourself a German SGN2. You might knew that already or you didn't. After some topics i read around the Web, i discovered that alot of people have a German phone without knowing it. You might be from Asia, US or Europe. It dosen't matter. You still got a German phone.
SO lets go the core of the info. According to Samsung Germany they recalled the Update 4.1.2 due some complex reasons like battery problems, extreme energy drainage on standby mode and CPU usage. and even the SDS issue etc. blablabla. Ok so what now? Well, according to Samsung Germany starting February in the first 2 Weeks they will start rolling out a re-modified version of the Update 4.1.2.
Since Samsung Germany saw that other countries, where the original 4.1.2 rolled out earlier and that the update 4.1.2 had many software flaws and many customer complaints, Samsung Germany started to recall all updates in relation with 4.1.2 and stated that they will release another re-modified version of 4.1.2 and that it "will" be released in the next 2 weeks starting 1.2.2013. Now i will repeat!! Starting February 2013 in first 2 weeks!
And that's what "THEY" said. NOT ME! So Just that we are clear. And this is targeted to the SGN2 who got a German unit!!!
BUT, if you dont own a German Note 2 and still got no update available in your country then then there might be "chance" that they recalled the update as well.
I dont know how other Samsung Main Offices in different countries reacted to the update recall or if any other countries did the same thing but that's what Samsung Germany did, and if Samsung Germany did it then ALL SGN2 onwers who own a German Note 2 are affected by this decision.
(Please dont forget to check if you got a German Unit and checked like in the above described action dialling *#1234# etc.)
Ok now another info for ALL SGN2 owners. According to Samsung Germany there will be also a "MAJOR" update to Jelly Bean 4.2.0 in the next two months. But now here it comes, it could be that Samsung Germany decides that the re-modified 4.1.2 update will be included into the 4.2.0 major update version. SO there might be a 5% chance that they wont release anything in February bit they might include it in the major 4.2.0 update. That's what "THEY" said. I know its BS! But what can we do!? Nothing....that's right....
That's all i heard and all i know.
PS: Btw, i heard that the 4.1.2 update wont fix ANY SDS issues. I am not sure....but thats what they said...
I hope it helped!

Are you mental? Did I say you got to believe it?? Yeah I did say nothing about that. I just said that what the people from Samsung told me. Because of alot people didn't receive any 4.1.2 update. And don't give me the crazy reason "yeah servers got a problem" because the people from Samsung me told that their servers work just fine. It's just that they recalled it. I am just trying to aware some people here you got a problem with not getting the new 4.1.2 update.
No I am not mental and I already updated to the latest 4.1.2 DMA6 and got no issues on battery draining and what you have told are totally bull....
Well I am on wanam 2.7 dma6 and I have a serious drain while screen is on.

thx!!! great news to all note 2 users
From what I know it shouldn't matter. It's a matter of you're phone. But I read somewhere that you can replace you're country OS due root and etc. You can either wait or root and flash.

Here like to add some, long story in sort
There is nothing to target like German rom
Samsung have released 4.1.2 for few countries ll7,which have some battery issue, nothing serious than this and have rolled back, now already they have released ma6 with fixing.
So countries who don't have get update, will get it shortly and this 4.1.2 have two major fix
1.exploit
2.sds
So if you don't get update and still want to fix, just download latest ma6 for any country and simply flash using odin, no need to have your device rooted.
And you can simply move back when your country gets 4.1.2 release.
I recommend every user on 4.1.1 to flash latest ma6 (till you get update for your country), b'coz there is lots of cases of sds are emerging out, which can kill your device without reason.
PS : elite developer of xda already said new kernel and recovery having some fix for sds
And at least not a single case have been reported to have sds while on LL7 and up.

Actually OP has little thing mentioned in exaggeration.
Rather First few paragraph, simply any one know if you are having DBT in your csc, it's German rom.
Next two paragraph also have nothing special to German, but all countries rom is withheld and already new rom rolled out, once it starts rolling out, within 2-3 wks almost all countries getting it as usual but nothing new.
I never believe any samsung guys utter single words officially about SDS
I doubt even how many of them even know what is SDS, except some fellows in development, and development ppl never speaks publicly.

For what it's worth, this new kernel has almost bricked my Galaxy Tab 3 8.
Yes, that was this Mon Aug 19 08:55:20 KST 2013 Kernel 3.0.31-1422334
Build numberJDQ39.T310UEUAMH2 that I was stupid enough to install as
a scheduled 90 MB update yesterday, Aug 27.
Now the device spends half of its time in a state where it is extremely unresponsive
and every click requires multiple taps; even the capacitive back and menu buttons
won't light on the first try. Fortunately it feels normal as I'm typing this, but
I know that it might be only temporary - oh, and before you ask, factory reset
did not help. All this brick-on-brick-on stuff persisted even after doing the
volume-home-power factory reset and wipeout dance.
Mind you, the device was never rooted and had just a few apps installed, and
this slow response is present even when they are not running, in the home screen.
Even killing most of the apps and system tasks does not help. So either they
somehow screwed up the input subsystem and drivers, or there is something
very CPU intense running in the background in this new kernel from time to
time.
Do you experience anything like this? Samsung chat help was wortless; of course
they had no clue about all that, and their only idea was the factory reset,
which did not quite work out, since the kernel version stayed the same after
that. Not sure if this all affects the battery life yet - it's been too early, but if
it does, it would be hinting at some tight loop in the kernel and not the drivers
issue.
I wonder, if it's just my device or it is more widespread? Right now I'm trying
to find some shop that would really reflash the device back to factory image,
or, barring that, just returning the Tab and getting the new one. Let's see if
the searches for that build number will bring more people here; at the moment
it is a pretty unique search term on the web, with just a couple of sites,
the second one being the Samsung updates.
This update has messed up my tablet, too. It is very unresponsive. I don't know what to do.

Good advice - thanks. But a bit late
Stupid mistake, really. I thought that I did - but that was for apps, not kernel.
By the way, just got off the phone with Samsung. Bottom line is, they don't
reflash devices back to factory images. In fact, their service center does
not even *have* a factory image. They install whatever is the latest load of
junk that Samsung gives them - and in my case it is probably going to be
exactly the problem image that I already have. (Sigh.) I cannot believe these
guys are still in busuness with that approach to customer service.
Anyway, the choice is between finding some underground shop and hoping
that they have a proper OS image and returning the device to Amazon before
its warranty is voided by reimaging. Oh well. If it is a proper original factory
image, it should not void the warranty in any case, right?
Anyone knows what is the factory image build number for US version of
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, anyway? I was not smart enough to write it down before
the update.
I have the US version tab3 8.0 and I am rooted. Thankfully rooting actually blocks you from getting OTA updates from Samsung it will specifically tell you that you cannot update because you are on a custom firmware.
Probably happens on other tab3 devices that are rooted...

Okay, for anyone who's still following this saga, I did find the reflashing shop and here is
what the guy says: he cannot return the device to its original factory kernel state. This
requires the device hardware key that he does not have, so what he can do, he can only
root it and reflash it with what he thinks is the best approximation of the factory kernel.
However, it won't be the exact match - to begin with, the bootloader will be different,
and in his experience, native Samsung images tend to work faster and have better
performance than these approximations. They have better radio perfirmance, etc, etc,
etc. After his work, the device will be left with something fairly close to the good factory
image, but not quite - and since I already had something that was 'not quite' good in a
similar sense, then what was the point.
His normal advice would be to wait a bit before reflashing, maybe it would become better -
but since my return window had just a few days left, he suggested returning the ruined
device while it was still possible and getting a new one instead. Which is exactly what
I did.
There was a suggestion to use sammobile.com on the parallel thread, but it listed
the same bad T310UEUAMH2 as the factory image for Cellular south (XAR) - which
was exactly the latest updated image that I was having problems with - and after
spending the whole day on this investigation, I was not in the mood to try the UK
image suggested by lyall29 above. For the curious among us, here is the OS version
installed on the tablet that I just got from the store just a few miles away from Android
Central in Mountain View, California:
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T310

@osokin...You made the best choice by returning it for a new one. Now the only problem with this tablet is, when we flash a custom recovery and root, there is now way to get back. Sure you can flash the stock recovery and unroot, but the status of the tablet is still custom. Therefore we can never get updates again, unless Chainfire supports the tab 3 with his triangle away tool. I have a jig but it did not work, maybe the jig is bad. Hopefully we can get a custom rom sometime soon. I tried but I can't do it. Oh well, no updates at all for those of us who are rooted.

I guess it's safe to say since Sprint is getting 4.4.4 that we're getting it as well? At some undetermined point of time of course.

I believe T-Mobile already implemented most of this in the NF4 update.
What I'm interested in is the Knox 2.0 (which I fear I might make rooting a stock device impossible) even with an unlocked bootloader.
Knox 2.0 was included in nf1 iirc. No hindrance.

Yeah I saw kid mode. And if course we already received that in the last update.

Yea I just yelled at T-Mobile about this and questioning why Sprint has 4.4.4 and why also the S4 & S5 on T-Mobile are getting 4.4.4 but we are getting ANOTHER 4.4.2. They told me an update is coming today, I looked and it's nf9 that has "improved wifi calling". I yelled some more about myself wanting stable data connections & removal of mm-qbattery-daemon. ..they ignored me...I'm mad...why the S4 & S5 but the real flagship (our Notes) are being neglected!!!
Frankly, I have enough updating: waited until July with updating to KK (my wifi calling stopped working and finally there was easy rooting without setting Knox, so I broke down and updated). After update my battery usage went out of control, thanks to root I fixed it, but still not impressive. Phone works as well as it worked before, but don't see much improvements, except for wifi calling that's fixed now, but now SD card access is tricky, with some programs it's fine, others don't work, so unless there is something new I really want, I won't bother updating, especially that probably root will be broken again.
Too much one step forward, one step back with those upgrades, especially that my phone works fine as is now.
Just received the 5.1.1 OTA. look at the kernel build date. this thing was cooked up YESTERDAY. device feels a lot snappier!! This is the T-Mobile branded one.

NO, the bootloader is not locked with the 5.1.1 update that was leaked.
Rather, "Factory Reset Protection" (an Android thing - not a Samsung thing!) is now an option, which allows you to lock the bootloader yourself, protecting your device from someone installing a custom recovery, wiping your device and making it their own. It makes the device somewhat less valuable, and therefore (supposedly) less likely to be stolen.

Tmobile. sorry
Okay guys so many people called me fake and I don't blame you..having 5.1.1 even when nexus devices don't have it is kinda suspicious but I need to clarify some things.. New boot loader is not locked like Verizon/ATT phones It's FRP, Factory Reset Protection. This is google's response to Icloud for stolen/lost devices.. I tried to flash twrp and cfroot and freaked out when i got the error about bootloader being locked...Now this doesn't mean Samsung/Tmobile will completely lock bootloaders in the future but we have to wait and see... phone seems to be really smooth and stable , however it looks like the camera needs some work done so I'm 100% this is not the final build and I guess I'm just lucky I got it this morning and be happy that Samsung has a build this stable with 5.1.1 which means official releases are not far.

wow....even faster than the nexus devices (Nexus 5)
Wow...amazeballs!
Nothing on unlocked UK yet, gives me hope though
Anyone else had this yet?
wow..good news..thanks
how is the night clock issue..?
Would you be able to check if the Auto-Brightness setting is fixed (check to see if it stays on Auto-Brightness), and if the Night clock is only lighting up necessary pixels on the AMOLED display? I can't wait for the rollout to hit my T-Mobile Edge! I'm hoping they improved the battery life some more too, it definitely doesn't last long enough.
If this is a prank, I will find you, and I will kill you. Lol
Omg. How does it feel? Battery life, smoothness?
strange that T-Mobile is faster than European Samsung unbranded..no update ATM.. ?
Nice! Hopefully the full file will show up soon so that those of us that are rooted can update.
I got no update. show screen shot.

Link is good. Checked on PA and it works. I think when you click via tapatalk it fails. Some sort of issue with the tapatalk redirect.
