Difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

What is the difference between 4.1 and 4.2, my friend is running 4.2 on her galaxy s 3 and I don't really see to much of any difference

4.2 added a new camera app, swype keyboard, quick settings, a new lock screen and other small features. Not THAT much of a difference.

Yeah people always wanting new update. But in my opinion even from ics to jelly bean it wasn't a big deal, but more battery drain. The big change is going to come when 5.0 arrives.

Project butter also brought huge battery drain. More importantly with a dual core 1.5 ghz I expect this phone to perform fast with any operating system, Just like any other high spec phone.

Maybe so touch wiz Sucks but still these phones are advance and all but battery still remain behind its kinda like a afterthought. I don't worry much about battery because you can always get another one but I'm just saying most of the high end phones are really bad with drainage. Maybe in the future we can go for a whole a day without having to charge at least once. Those days with flip phones it could go for a whole week without charging lol.

What are you gonna do with your next phone? Transfer over all your contacts? LOL.
And then rinse and repeat.
Seriously, what more do you need/want? T989 is super fast, super good GPU, strong battery, dual core GPS, one of the few devices with SAMOLED+, better than the nexus in nearly every way except screen res (and the GNex takes a performance hit because of that).
Ok good luck whatever you decide

Hey guys I know I've opened another one of these before but with a one s so I would like to apologize but I have a s2 and am thinking of getting a gnex.
I have read multiple online reviews and comparisoms but with mix results. Is the gnex worth trading? It is a straight trade.

Processor is almost equal although the exynos is a much better processor. The battery is great if you know how to manage things and are smart about things me personally get around 15 hours overall 5 hours being screen on time. Over wifi on Sprint 3G which is pathetic I get around 2-3 hours of display time. There is a giant difference between the plus and pentile especially depending on the phone you may get one with purple tint however rooting and using a custom kernel and calibrating the colors and contrast will help alleviate that. Overall it's the better phone. Just got jelly bean and it's not even been pushed as an OTA.

I love it lol. Like spec wise, many said it's not that big of an improvement. But the resolution and just the feel of the phone is just so sexy. Everything is smoother that's for sure. And i got lucky, it was only an $80 difference for me.
I'm not sure if this is just me, but i feel like the internet latency is much better. It feels like it connects quicker because the s2 has those occasional hangs.

Exactly my thoughts! I was skeptical took me like a month to get it. But the resolution alone was enough to make me happy. Have my dpi set at 200 and loving it. Project Roadrunner? 4.2

Has anybody heard of this? I did a quick lazy glance here and didn't see it posted so I thought I would. Looks pretty amazing with new features and improving Gnow and improved battery life for Android users. Of course the main concern is in order for us to experience we might have to switch phones or of course wait on our devs to do their amazing work. Thoughts??

Your point? We all have to move on at some point. By the time this phone gets 4.2 we'll have some really amazing devices on the market that will make this phone seem like it was from the stone age. Just like this phone makes that HD2 seem like its from the stone age. Idk how people are still using that thing. I think my next one will be a nexus.. There should be some nice ones coming out soon..
I was thinking.. I'm sure that the galaxy Nexus is a shoe in to get 4.2 and if it can handle the software I am sure that this phone can too!.. It's unlike that tmobile will put in the resources to update this phone after JB but it might be a slim possibility.. Especially since we will have the option whether or not to have OEM skins

Officially I don't think this phone is getting past ICS. I have high doubts about an official TW JB update for it. Only the international GSII has been officially confirmed. As we all know that phone and every other GSII has the exynos SoC so I wouldn't doubt the others can get it easily. But since we have the s3.. idk.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
And I just wanna state that it's obvious that Google is listening to what people want and trying to add it to software updates! We have all been talking about how nice it would be if we had a choice of AOSP or OEM.. And voila! Google goes ahead and appears to be implementing it!.. This is totally opposite of other mobile operating systems (not naming names) that always hold back the features... This is why I will probably stay loyal to android for a long time!

I posted this on another topic as well that was discussing the seeder app. This is straight from a CM Dev on G+.
" The entropy pool stuff is bull****. The only users of /dev/random are libcrypto (used for cryptographic operations like SSL connections, ssh key generation, and so on), wpa_supplicant/hostapd (to generate WEP/WPA keys while in AP mode), and the libraries that generate random partition IDs when you do an ext2/3/4 format. None of those 3 users are in the path of app execution, so feeding random from urandom does nothing except make random... well... less random"
A lot of tech talk but he goes on "The only reason devices feel faster is because by constantly polling the PRNG, it keeps the device's I/O in constant use (which in turn, depending on device, will make the CPU stick to higher clock frequencies to keep up)"[/QUOTE]

How is this useful? To anyone wondering if it will work or is curious: install the free apk on xda. Try it out. If it helps: great keep using it. If you want, buy the play store version to support the dev. If it doesn't work, good you didn't waste your money now you can go spend your buck and some change on a pack of gum or a soda.
