Once you get your phone I guarantee that you will never want to go back to a smaller size screen. That's the feeling I got when I had to go back to using my old Mytouch 4g for a bit while getting my Note 2 replaced. But speaking about the screen. Make sure you do some quality checks like dead pixels, stuck pixels, etc. On my first note 2, I noticed that there was what looked like a blob of ink in the middle of the screen that was only noticeable on a dark background. It bothered me enough to do a replacement. The second one that I have now has zero screen issues that I can see. But the home button has a slight amber brown color to it under certain lighting. But it doesn't bother me too much. So in short... Just do your own quality checks while your still in your return period.
My home button feels like something was wrong with it, I don't know how to really explain it, but when I clicked it, it feels like it's not solid or attached correctly, I thought I'd just defective or something.
It's been like that for few weeks until I saw somewhere, use isopropyl alcohol pad to rub the button and click it rapidly, repeat for couple more times, and now my home button feels perfect and solid.

cut a little piece of paper and put the corner in the gap between the home button and the metal ring around it to push the dirt out

So fresh out of the box, the bezel on my Note 2 is a bit scratched, like someone took a fine blade and scraped into the inside of the bezel in a few spots. You can see it to the right of the button and in the corner. Kind of annoying. Anyone else seeing anything like this?
Absolutely not to be honest. Sorry.

Off topic, what camera are you using to take those pictures?

Oly XZ1. $200 on Amazon right now. I highly suggest picking one up. Those aren't even my best effort. I took some pics of surgeries today that put my Powershot S100 to shame. f/1.8-2.5 with a real nice sensor. If you don't care about movies on it, it's tough to go wrong.
I have two knicks on my pwr button. Methinks they reused a refurb button from an s3 or something.

You can run your finger along the inside edge of the bezel and feel the scrapes. It's nitpicky, I know. But for $300, I want a pristine device that'll sit in a case with a screen protector. Yeah, Imight get a ding down the road, but I want the new car smell for as long as I can. I reuploaded the pictures and circled the areas. There's about 3 or 4 areas like that on the phone.
Same on my phone.
I thought it was only me!
Same here. Maybe it was just a handling issue for some scattered ones. Just a bit bummed as my original was overnighted, but now I have to wait 3-4 days. I'm not using it since I don't have a case and don't want to take a chance on it getting damaged somehow to where they think I did something to the phone. So I'm back on the S3. And MyBackupPro worked well for just backing up all my apps, SMS and logs and just restoring onto the Note. So that's a little comforting moving forward.

I would definitely call sprint or go to the store and get it exchanged. For this kind of money the phone better be mint.

I already have the return kit coming. Unfortunately, Sandy will probably cause it to be delayed.
Just got back from exchanging mine due to major imperfections in display and minor scratching on bezel.
On display the brushed grey color applied was not lined up thus making viewing area look crooked , Left side had 1/8 + inch / right side had less then 1/16 inch reveal.
Picture below is how its supposed to look which my 1st looked nothing like.
Also menu button light transparency was hindered creating jagged look due to brushed grey color not having clean lines < Very annoying to say the least , When soft key lights turned on it became my focus.
Basically the display was a mess not worthy of 225.00 contract buyout / 300.00 device cost so I had no choice but to attempt swap.
Bezel had minor nicks nothing major but could be seen.
Display units had same thing going on but not as bad so my chance of successful exchange were pretty slim but thanks to a very nice sprint store rep exchange was allowed.
She had not units in stock but let me know when they arrived one would be held for me.
An hour later I get the call swap took place and I'm now typing on perfection thanks to Sprint store rep Lisa.
So a few days ago I began to notice that the back of my phone is now creaking, I first heard it when i went to pick my phone up the other morning and it sounded like an old hardwood floor creaking sound, it's progressively gotten worse to where now when i hold my phone during a call if i shift my hand at all the person on the other line can hear it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. The creaking seems to be isolated to (if you're staring at the back of the phone) the left half of the phone just below the power button and stops creaking above the phone model number beneath the glass.

So this makes me curious as to what other defects its going to have, but I'm on to a different issue, phone dropped about 2" and the digitizer broke, so when my new screen comes in i will do a walk through tutorial on how to replace it... starting to wish i had gone with the GS3...
Mine is also doing that. Just started to notice it today. Kinda makes my opinion of the build quality a little less. But still love the phone. Minus the messaging bug. LOL.

If I use my shoulder to hold the phone to my ear I get a creaking sound too. That's the only time I've heard it though. I imagine it has to do with the glass back.
Here, too. It's the camera side, right below it, that creaks. Fortunately, it's only noticeable when I deliberately squeeze it.

Hey, so I just noticed that if I flip the phone over and orient it so the camera is on top, then it will creak when I push on the left side. You can also see the casing move in slightly. It's almost as if it's broken somewhere but you can't see any crack.
I thought the people at Best Buy had said the back was glass but it's looking more like cheap plastic at this point. Is it different on AT&T maybe?

The replacement screen was $130 went with 2 day shipping (Digitizer/LCD Assembly). Just the digitizer was only $60 but it's a good thing I went with the whole assembly because when i was trying to pull the glass out of the housing some of the shards came off by themselves, and revealed that LG "fusing" the glass to the lcd is literally glue covering the entire LCD making it damn near impossible to just replace the digitizer and make it look nice.
Also a few warnings to those disassembling their phones:
1) The battery isnt solid, more like cased in an extreemly soft metal so it will dent if not carefully removed (it's glued into the housing)
2) The chrome edge dent's very easily, have a small ding where i got impatient, TAKE YOUR TIME!
3) When removing the back cover don't cross over the volume rocker, power button, or USB port with the spudger. for the top of the back removal gently push the back cover forward dont try to shove your spudger in their, it wont work lol.
I'm going to be doing a full disassembly guide that's a lot easier to follow than the "engrish" version korea put out for us english speaking techs when my new roll of 3m tape comes in. =P
This cracking is caused by a small piece of sticky under the back cover you can either remove the sticky or ad some more this would prevent the cracking...
I posted a service guide here on XDA search my name for it... It will show how you can remove the back cover... just when taking it off remember the back can crack easy and the plastic can ding or dent rather easy and make sure you don't mess up the power button or the volume buttons

That's probably gonna depend on the sales rep. Some will probably think you're too picky or they will understand and give you another. Also I assume they would lose sale on the other since it's been opened. But it's always worth a try. If you return it for a refund they would lose a sale as well. Good luck.

Gap around the glass has been mentioned on here before. Expansion and contraction prevents glass cracking according to another forum member. My home button is good. With all these manufacturers tolerances I'm hesitant to swap units as the next one may have another quirk that I won't be able to live with. Cue my old Galaxy S4. Verticle lines down screen noticeable on grey backgrounds in low light. Swapped that unit 2 times. 3rd unit was same. However wife's s4 was perfect.

Something that, as a phone tech, I feel the need to explain- it is NORMAL for buttons to wiggle. It is NOT a defect and NOT a reason to exchange the device. You are not going to find one that doesn't have at least some degree of movement, just due to the way these phones are constructed. The button itself is just a little piece of plastic & silicone that is aligned with the hole in the screen before the whole unit is assembled. It is not actually attached to anything, it is free-floating inbetween the digitizer and the board underneath. Even if you manage to get one that doesn't wiggle, it will eventually start to wiggle the more you use it as the materials relax.
I agree. But I think the problem is the hole is bigger than it should be so the buttons have a lot of room too move around compared to the s4. Thats just how it is on this phone. Take it or leave it. The glass is a different story as it can be off centered when put on.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Couple questions. Can anyone move their home button at all vertically? Mine does slightly only on the left side. Also if I just barely push/click it on the very right corner of the button I can make it click without a response however if I push it with normal force on the right it responds like normal. I can't do this on the very left side/corner. That side is very sensitive and if I barely touch it it responds. The feel/sound is a little different when I push the right side too. It's definitely a tighter fit on that side.
I'm wondering if I should go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement because of this. My s6 had a bad wobbly loose home button and it was annoying. I ordered my phone through Verizon customer service through an upgrade. If I want them to send me a new one they have to charge me $200 again and then when I send one back I have to wait 10 days for a refund.. And the closest Verizon store is almost 2 hours away
I'm also hesitant to swap bcuz first charge on this one and I'm already getting over 6 hours on screen time and I haven't even disabled any bloatedware yet. It however does have the gap/light leak all around but apparently majority of them have that. Advice? What would you do in my position? Thanks guys... Wish I could just get a perfect device for once.
Maybe you're over thinking it lol mine sometimes clicks, sometimes doesn't, but never bothers me. But to answer your question on the vertical movement..the whole button has a slight vertical movement for me when I try and rock it lightly.

I think so too bro. I'm having Verizon mail me another one though and then I'll compare and pick. Had to drop another 200 bucks to get them to send another one lmao will refund though when they get one back...
It's very rare you find a galaxy phone with a perfect home button...
My recalled note was completely perfect, but the home-button on my new note often clips the glass on the left side. It's pretty annoying but I'm not sure if it's anything to return it for. The screen protector was also applied badly, completely unaligned and bubbly - seams quality went down after the recall.
Seems like every Galaxy device on this forum has a person who overly analyzes the behavior and mechanical characteristics of the home button....smh

Been about three times now. The SPen is in the phone but about to come out as if it has been clicked.
While I never touched the SPen at all.
Do note I'm using the case that came with the phone.
I don't think that the pen can be accidentally touched as the case covers that part while.
Would like to know if the same has happened with any of you out there.
Thank you for your time.
Well, no, not with this one, or any of my previous notes
Mine came out on it's own once, but maybe I or my kids didn't put it in properly. I actually lost it, but alarm sounded and I went back to look for it and found it. Since it never happened again, I'm leaning towards operator error. I've seen replacement pens for $30, so I'm not loosing sleep over it.
you need to make sure when you "click" it in you aren't actually "unclicking" the top of the pen. I used to do this on my note 8 ALL the time.

Where did you see the s pens for sale? I would like to get a black or silver one, as I dont like the blue one that came with the aura glow model
I've seen it at B&H, which is large camera/electronic store in NYC for $30 online, but only blue. Samsung should have it for $42, if you have credit for preorder, could be way to use it?
I'm waiting for Amazon to stock it, now they only have N8 and N9. I was thinking to maybe order yellow, but I'm not in a rush, especially that I have 2 extra s-pen from N7 and they work, except for gestures.

You can buy them for $30 direct from Samsung.com. The black one is in stock right now. Just be aware, if you have the Aura Glow, then your frame is silver. The button or cap of the black S-Pen is black.l, so it won't match. I plan to buy the white S-Pen when its back in stock, since it has the silver cap.
Thanks bro!

I'm guessing and I think this is what happened.
I must have taken out the pen and started playing with it by clicking it and when I put it back in the phone I must have done so with the clicked in position.
So basically when I put the pen in with the clicked in position the press and click sound would come but not for the pen setting in the phone but for the button release and since we intuitively are used to associating the sound with the pen being in place it must have been loose all along.
Guess Samsung should have made a mechanism to avoid this obvious problem, maybe by playing a small beep when the Spen is in place, possibly they can release the same in a future update.
For now gotta keep this in mind or stop playing with the pen.
So today my phone dropped (about 4 feet). The pen flung out of it and cracked in half. I guess its better than the glass cracking but I'm surprised it made it out of the phone.

I've gotta say I have to disagree with you there. I don't think Samsung should've done more, or should've fdone anything differently. I didn't have the first Note, but I've had each one since the Note 2 was released. Throughout multiple phones and multiple years, I've NEVER had an Spen accidentally eject, so I can say with certainty that it isn't a fault of Samsung.

my work trouser pockets are fairly shallow I've lost mine a few times now in varying ways either knocking it up out of my pocket or it sliding out while I've been sitting, luckily my case has 100% protected the phone every time other than a hairline crack in the screen protector, but everytime it has made the jump at over 2 foot the pen has fired clean out of the phone and I've had to have a look round for the pen (black pen doesn't stand out too well) luckily it's never damaged the pen, but it does seem to come out fairly easy with any impact as it only seems like a friction fitting and not any mechanical hold.
so to me the more you use the pen it will likely get looser as it does only seem it's there purely on friction with the port it lives in.
The extraction button just pops out to grab the s pen, it does not secure the spen in any way, what maintains the s pen in place, are two dents placed about 2 cm from the tip, which I guess get caught inside by a pressure retainer, like some cabinet doors do, so, an impact will eject the spen depending on how it strikes the impact surface
The action of the SPen on my old Note 8 is like a Rolls Royce. You click it, then the pen pops out 1/4 of an inch. Pull it and it comes out with zero friction. Press it back in all the way to the point of clicking and it never comes out accidentally. A joy to use. My Note 10 Plus has a really stiff SPen though. Press it and it comes out 1/4 of an inch but then I have to pull like heck to get it out. The friction is crazy. Same when I push it back. I can get the SPen 2/3rds of the way back in but then encounter crazy friction until it has pressed all the way back in. Not a nice feeling SPen at all. Better than a super-loose SPen I guess.
Odd, the feeling of my note 10+ is exactly as the one of my note 8, very smooth, the same as with my note 7, the feeling with the 3 and 4 was not as good though
yeah there isn't much friction on mine as said above it's probably only a slight bump as the tip passes into what ever retains the pen, but even that doesn't feel very solid. if you are getting really high friction I would check for dirt or something in the slot.
but yeah I get the point on the pen coming out if hit on the correct angle, it just feels like it could have been a bit stronger, not that I should really make a habit of dropping the phone out of my pocket. only Note I had before this was briefly a 7 before the recall, but it felt more like a positive connection when you pushed the pen in. admittedly never had the phone long enough to find out how strong it actually was.
