[Q] OpenVPN, where to get TUN.KO for SGH-T889? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm trying to install OpenVPN to access my vpn service. Install of market apps "OpenVPN Installer", "OpenVPN for Android", and "OpenVPN Settings" went well, but "Tun.ko Installer" shows that tun.ko for SGH-T889 is not in their repository to install. A file search in Solid Explorer does not find it on the phone. Also the "OpenVPN for Android" checkbox for "Load tun module" is greyed out, so it looks like it cannot find it on the phone either (as in pre-installed from Samsung). Does anybody know where to get the tun.ko for the SGH-T889 or how to create it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe pull one from a Galaxy S3?

I also need the tun.ko for the note 2!

There is a TUN.KO installer in the play market.

Galaxy S3 and OpenVPN problem

Hello,
I've Galaxy S3 and I'm trying to setup openvpn.
I've downloaded and installed ics-openvpn from google play.
and when through the process of configuring the VPN.
However, when I tries to establish a connection I get the following error:
" P:Options error: Unrecognised option or missing parameter(s) in /data/data/de.blinkt.openvpn.cache/android.conf:15: ifconfig (2.3_alpha1)"
any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Get this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImRlLmJsaW5rdC5vcGVudnBuIl0.
works for me, perfectly fine.
To use vpn you hqve to set a secure lockscreen (pin, pass or pattern) an app that works around that is VPNRoot, free in google play but requires root

Not entirely true. Only if you use the Android Keystore you need the lockscreen. About the ifconfig error. That should be fixed in 0.5.9 version.
You are missing ifconfig.
Download busybox and let it install in /system/bin
I've used OpenVPN settings and OpenVPN installer and worked fine.

Nah the error message posted above is from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn which does not use the ifconfig tool at all.

OpenVPN?

Is there any way I can get openVPN support on the gNex (Specifically the Verizon one). Are there any mods or something out there? I can't seem to find any ROMs that support it.
EDIT: I know I tried out a ROM a while ago that supported it, but I can't seem to remember which one it was
Try search Openvpn settings and Openvpn installer on the market...
...your device must be rooted

Nooooooo.... you don't even need root to use it anymore. This works so much better than the root alternatives, been using OpenVPN on my phones since I was using a nexus one. after trying pretty much every single possible solution, I found this one to be drastically more stable than anything else, plus you can use it on a totally stock phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiZGUuYmxpbmt0Lm9wZW52cG4iXQ..
The root solutions (even my my galaxy nexus) did weird things to my connection and overall stability of the phone itself, usually requiring a reboot to flush the DNS cache or whatever.
For the last month or so, I have been using l2tp/ipsec/psk instead, seems to be miles ahead of openvpn in terms of a "headache-free" experience. I was also suprised to find out that tmobile does not block l2tp/ipsec (at least for me anyways)...of course its also a giant pain in the rear to set up properly.
You need to install openvpn from market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schaeuffelhut.android.openvpn
and the tun.ko modules (rooted device?):

any other suggestions?
I rooted and expected to use Wifi Tether using my stock ROM like I did with my GSII but it kept erroring when activating the wifi.. I'm not entirely sure how it works or if it would work for others but I downloaded Power Toggles on the appstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc specifically for an NFC toggle (which was worthless as it only opened the settings menu) but I happened to try out the Hotspot toggle and I noticed it just skips past the verification step and turns on the hotspot. I haven't actually tested it out yet but I did notice the AP it broadcasted showed up on my friends phone.

It works! Thanks !!!
Wifi Tether
Use ES File Explorer, the newest one. Go to the sidebar, then the Tools menu, then Net Manager. I'm using the random APN. Go to your computer, wireles networks, click the ssid from ES File Explorer and and put in the password. Done.
Im having the same issue and tried the treve modded version with busybox installed... im prolly just missing a setting but any help would be appreciated!

I'm on AT&T stock and not rooted. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan (yes, likely throttled at some point).
I just found out an app I've had for years on android allows me to hotspot my Note 2 and my Bro's SG S4. Both are stock and NOT rooted.
The app is ES File Explorer. Look in Tools / Net Manager / Create Hot Spot
This made my day. No root or ROM. Just a free app I've used for years who's new feature rocks my world. I hope that helps.
Edit ... Hah, A.Noob beat me to it!
Use settings at the bottom to name an SSID and password of your choosing.

VPN issues

Hi guys
My phone refuses to display the VPN dialogue to disconnect from a VPN after pressing the icon from the status bar. Connecting is not an issue but disconnecting from the VPN without resetting the WiFi is.
I'm also using onavo extend, and I'll always get the toast "Couldn't start VPN".
Anyone knows what's the issue here or am I missing some system apps
Appreciate any help
Thanks

Maybe this reply is too late but I was having the same problem on Nexus 5 and I was googling for a solution. I couldn't find any so I tried further and found that after disabling an Xposed module called XHaloFloatingWindow, I could start the onavo vpn service successfully. Maybe you should try to disable this module if you are using it or some other similar system ui mods.

How to allow file or turn off built in antivirus?

I'm trying to install some software but it's detecting it as malware or something. How do I disable the built in antivirus? I already disabled the Google app checker.
