[Q] CM 7.2 stable question: Phone number display - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently s-offed and rooted my girlfriend's wildfire, then installed CM7.2 stable (downloaded directly from cyanogenmod site). I noticed that the way it displays mobile numbers is weird. It used to be that it would display this: 09178994222. But after flashing with cm 7.2, it became this: 091-789-94222. I found the only way to prevent it from displaying it that way is to edit the contact and do it like this: +639178994222. Is there a way to make it display the way it used to? The original ROM is suited for the Philippines.
Thanks in advance!

You can use different dialer apps like dialer ex from play store.

Yes
Yes, you can try other apps.
But i dont see why you want it to display like it used to? Isnt it easier to read with " - " ?
When you receiving a call it display it "normally", which means that how you want it. Hope it helps. :fingers-crossed:

sorry if I didn't expound, but the number displayed is by the contacts app, which is then displayed that way as well by the dialer. also, no, displaying the numbers that way with the hyphen is not easier for us, because mobile numbers here usually are the first 4 numbers, not the first 3, so this way is actually more confusing.
i hope somebody can help.

how about a wm5 app because when i try to access xda from my tytn 11 using opera or IE i get the web version. should i be typing in a diffrent addy?
FC when logging in?
On my HTC Eris (2.1 stock; rooted), I can read forums fine, but as soon as I try to login to search or post, the app FCs. I have uninstalled/re-installed, cleared cache, etc., But can not get rid of the problem. It did work initially.
Has anyone else seen this or anything similar?
Thanks!
The Tapa Talk based app seems to work well other than a minor bug I've noticed. It appears the Desire Q&A forum is missing in the HTC Desire section. At a guess it may be a bug in the Tapa Talk software dealing with the ampersand in the forum name.
Hello I was in hope of an update that can give settings options to auto hide the dock at the top i have an HD2 running Android and it would be great if i was able to use my whole screen versus a fraction of it due to the Android status bar and the fixed menu options at the top

I like this idea.
We're working on a premium ad-free version of the app. It might take a while, but maybe not. This is a good example of a feature that would be included.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but just noticed what is causing this. Must have favourited the Desire forum before the Q&A forum was added so never seem to see it while accessing via favourites.
However, if I access it via the main forum lists it appears fine.
Workaround seems to be to remove favourites and re-add them if any new sub-forums are added.
Hello,
Don't know if this issue is known here on the forum, if so my apologies and you can move this reply.
Working on Desire HD, i can't seem to save my favorites.
XDAapp is installed fine, I can login, then i can save a favorite, but when i close the app and open it again, my favorite is gone.
I've tried to install the app again, but this won't help.
Any1 have a solution?
Nevermind,
after reinstalling the app twice again it worked.
Not got a phone at the minute so cant test the app for a few days to check if the feature is already there but how about 2 version or at least 2 themes 1 for lcd screens (light version) and 1 for amole screen (dark version) just to help save on battery life as we all know lcd performs better with light colours and amoled performs better with dark colours.
Getting "XDA App" without using Android Market?
This is not a "bug" or "feature request", however, I'm following various development efforts here in XDA land and would love to have the XDA App on a Android 2.2 Tablet that does not have access to the Market!
Why is the latest version of the "XDA App for Android" not available as a simple download somewhere on this website?
I found an old 0.9 version that has problems and would like to get (and keep) the latest and greatest verion on my Tablet!
Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide...
Regards.
That's a fair idea
Though it's tempting to ask why you don't just make the market work on the device and install from there
But still, good idea

Got a strange bug that no matter how many times i Re-install the app it just doesn't go away.
Basicly it started happening randomly the other day (worked fine for a while) and know when ever I search for anything the app FC's.
I've tried re-installing & even wiped my phone back to stock but still the same thing happens every time.
Any advice?

I've just checked with my friends Desire HD & his does the same! To replicate the fault do the following.
*Open the app
*Once loaded press the "Search" button on your phone.
*Search for something
That's pretty much it, as soon as you press enter it FC's. Ill see if i can dig about more & find out why it is doing this & if there is a work around!
I found myself using it all the time. It's a very handy app for keeping current. Unfortunately, I can't find a way of navigating to the "Legacy" phones section, so it no longer shows the forum I was reading.

I have found a work around & I now know which phones this effects.
This problem only seams to effect new UK HTC Phones like the Desire Z & HD (Not 100% sure if its just UK phones but that is all I have to work with). It does not matter which rom its on as it effects all roms (must be something to do with the hardware!)
There is a work around that allows you to search & this is it:
1) Once the app is running click on the "More Info" tab
2) Click back onto the "Latest" tab
3) Press the search button & search as normal
I belive its something to do with the hardware of the Desire Z/HD. Maybe its not allowing the xda app to open our account thus not allowing us to search so when accessing the "More Info" tab it allows the phone to access our account? Just a theory though!
Hope this helps someone! I'm just happy that I can know search XDA on my phone! XD

I have tried this on my Desire, but there are no issues with that device.

Nexus Dailer -Contact Search Filter

Hey All,
I came from the miui rom on my DHD and one thing i loved about it i am missing in android 4.0.
when going to the dialer, and typing a number, it also did name searches.
Is this possible in 4.0 or did they fail by not building this simple feature?
example: dialing 2539 would bring up Alex from my contacts.
i dont wanne go in my contacts, then search, then call.
just type a few numbers to have it filter my contacts and immediately dial.
Thanks.
I miss this too... I know taht on older androids you can use Go dialer&Go contacts to get this functionality but don't know if work on ICS also I would like use stock dialer design but with this "T9" functionality...
unfortunately no..
this has been the behavior of the stock dialers in every AOSP rom.. very annoying!
Yeah, miss it too, very annoying! Was so much quicker before, having to do it this new way just feels slow and clunky.
Can you not search by contact numbers using the google search bar at the top? Im waiting for a replacement phone so I cant check but I thought they added that feature in ICS.
Mark.
I am currently using Dialer One purely for the T9 search feature, looks like CM9 will have it on board though: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,10843
looks good

Different dialer

Hi all,
Is there an alternative to the stock dialer for the SIII? Couple of things I don't like about the stock one if anyone knows any fixes for it that I'm not aware of.
When using the keypad to enter the name or number of the person you want to call, my old phone's dialer would suggest people or numbers based on recent or frequent calls so I can punch in a few letters or numbers and who I want to call would normally be at the top of the list and i can just click the name and it would call. The SIII doesn't seem to do that.
Also, this dialer seems pretty sluggish sometimes when working with dialer screens (dialing the chosen number, opening pull down menu, going between tabs, etc.).
Thanks,
Ho'okani

Yea man you type the first number(letter) it pulls a name and next to that name it shows an arrow pointing down with the list of names for that letter. Works great
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Thanks. Knew about the arrow thing but just looking for something more intuitive. When you open up the list of names there doesn't seem to be any logical order to it and the ones at the top are usually names I rarely call. You would think the most used or recently called names would be at the top. Plus my phone seems sluggish when trying to open that list of names.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

Any AOSP rom for that matter, the dialer on AOSP roms are really good. But if you want to stay on the default rom, I'd +1 exdialer for its customization options and speed. I think there are modified stock roms with the AOSP dialer, but I'm not too sure/can't find them at the moment.

Stock Google Dialer - no ringing, no loudspeaker

Hi,
Today I've received my HTC 10 and I'm trying to get the 'nearest Nexus experience'. There was no problems with either Now Launcher or Keyboad, but I have some problems with Dialer. The app itself was installed from Play Store (com.google.android.dialer), so no sideloading was necessary. The installed version is 2.05.07_rc4. I've given it all permissions (with settings ones), change default dialer and everything is working except ringing and loudspeaker. I can dial a number, answer a call, talk. There are all notifications.
I've tried sideloading different versions form apkmirror. 2.3.17 fails to install (no necessary libraries), 3.00.04_rc4 installs but crashes. I've also sideloaded Contacts - no problems there.
Can someone had similar problems? Maybe on different phone?
Thanks for any help.
Karol
That's weird. When I go to the Play Store, it tells me the Google Dialer is not compatible with my HTC 10. Also, the version on the store is 2.3.17, how come you have 2.05.07_rc4 ? Which country are you in? (I'm in the US) Why is it a release candidate (I assume the rc part at the end is for that)?
I've tried installing from apkmirror (2.3.17 and 3.00.04_rc4) and the same happens to me; first one doesn't want to install and the latter crashes.
I'm trying as well to make my 10 resemble my former Nexus, so if anyone knows how to make this Google Dialer app work, please, post it here.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Not sure which version. I ended up going back to the horrible HTC dialler
I also had a problem with the alarm in the google clock app. The alarm tone I selected always seemed to be the default rather than the custom selected one.
I don't know what HTC have done with their firmware. It's been a pretty good experience other than those issues though.

Give the google clock permissions for disk access and it will then be able to use custom "ringtones". This is a common Marshmallow issue. Try giving the google dialer full permissions and see if that fixes your other issues.

I'm in Poland. And yes, Google Play installs 2.05.07_rc4. It's also available from ApkMirror (apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-release/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-android-apk-download)
As for the phone - I gave up. It's already sold. All reviewers almost promised the Nexus experience, but it's far from it. It's not like Moto phones, where they take stock Android and add some of their features. It's all rebuild. The quick settings look similar yet different. The same thing is with the settings. Some (Many?) dialogs have Sense not Material look. The typography is wrong. It still is Roboto, but the weights are used differently.
Stock Android is beautiful. Everything is in place, everything works as expected. Sense (8 is it?) look like HTC tried to rebuild/upgrade previous version to look Material. They failed. I'm back to my old Nexus 5.
Ps. One hint about the dialer. When you place a call, two icons appear in the notification bar. One from Google Dialer, one from HTC Dialer. So the built in one is still active, also you can't disable the Contacts/Dialer app. Maybe it's HTC bug and should by reported?
Karol
Sounds weird.
I couldn't install the contacts or dialer through google play, but sideloaded the apks and no problem once I gave the permissions.
The phone rings and loudspeaker is functional.
No issues or bugs so far.
Edit: The HTC dialer does show in the notification, and in the default app I selected the google dialer.
The phone doesn't ring either but I do have loudspeaker during a call.
For me the only part I care about is the dialer. I have the dialer installed and when I call it launches HTC phone app. I get the nice features of search but no bugs. So far it has worked nicely

I got that setup to work like that as well, but I don't like the htc phone app taking over the call. I have Google voice + carrier number on the same phone and the Google phone app lets me know if I'm dialing with Google voice or with my carrier number.

Why did HTC feel the need to restrict the access to the phone's dialing functions? (rethorical question)

I got the same thing on other apps. You have to go into permissions to allow it to modify system settings. I don't remember exactly where it is but since the app never rings I uninstalled it.

Looks like there is an easy fix for this now:

keep in mind it breaks Wi-Fi calling settings ( although Wi-Fi calling still works)
