I have noticed since updating to firmware 2.3.4 build.42 the stock home dialler and phone book are write lagy.
What is best replacement or how to solve lag issue?
I am rooted if this helps.

I use Dialler One. Have been for years.
My first android phone was a HTC Hero and with Sense it had the ability to search my contacts when I started typing their name.
Moving to stock android I lost that =[
But Dialler One was the first one I found to replace it, and I've used it on every phone since. =]

The Arc do that too.
On stock ROM it can even search your exchange adressbook.

Hey All,
I came from the miui rom on my DHD and one thing i loved about it i am missing in android 4.0.
when going to the dialer, and typing a number, it also did name searches.
Is this possible in 4.0 or did they fail by not building this simple feature?
example: dialing 2539 would bring up Alex from my contacts.
i dont wanne go in my contacts, then search, then call.
just type a few numbers to have it filter my contacts and immediately dial.
Thanks.
I miss this too... I know taht on older androids you can use Go dialer&Go contacts to get this functionality but don't know if work on ICS also I would like use stock dialer design but with this "T9" functionality...
unfortunately no..
this has been the behavior of the stock dialers in every AOSP rom.. very annoying!
Yeah, miss it too, very annoying! Was so much quicker before, having to do it this new way just feels slow and clunky.
Can you not search by contact numbers using the google search bar at the top? Im waiting for a replacement phone so I cant check but I thought they added that feature in ICS.
Mark.
I am currently using Dialer One purely for the T9 search feature, looks like CM9 will have it on board though: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,10843
looks good

Hi all,
My phone is rooted. Not a fan of the Sense 4.0 SMS/MMS app. I know I can download the default ICS 4.0.3 MMS.apk from the market.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.concentriclivers.mms.com.android.mms
When I go to install it, it says it will overwrite the existing application. Before I get reckless...
Couple questions:
- Why is there no existing mms.apk in /system/app ? I can't find it. Does HTC call it something different or...?
- How do I backup the current Sense version in case I screw this up and need to restore it?
- Is the Sense one tightly integrated into the rest of Sense? Will it break other apps, widgets...?
So far I got this working.
1. installed stock ICS SMS from market
2. backed up and removed /system/app/Message+CRC_1.apk
3. rebooted phone
Haven't tested MMS nor any sense features that might bomb (I hope not)
I'll update thread if there are any problems and I need to roll this back
Any Update
Hey. Just wondering if you had any update on how this worked? Everything still fine? I want to go to the ICS MMS app, cause the sense one isn't as nice.

I use it daily, the SMS app works perfectly. Love this change.
The HTC SMS widgets that display your messages on your desktop may not work (don't think mine do) but this is easily remedied by just finding other widgets in the market etc. Just don't put the default HTC ones on your desktop.
Won't uninstalling the app just automatically put stock sense app back in there?

No. The stock ICS app does not play nice with the stock Sense app, you can't have them both on the phone at the same time. Its not like when you install GOSMS or something.
I had to actually delete the sense app right off the phone completely for it to work properly. Otherwise I had strange problems such as messages being sent twice.
Since I physically deleted the sense app there is no going back without re-installing the sense APK.
Did you save the stock apk? No joke one of my hesitations is the messaging app. If I can switch to stock ICS for messaging I may be ordering mine yet tonight.

Honestly no why would i? I updated this post to be kind but I'm not building something here, this was for my own use and it works perfectly. I'd that's not what you're looking to hear, find another thread. I won't lose sleep at night.
As for backing up the original sense app, yes I did see step 2 above. I used adb for this just pull the file.
Again this works perfectly If anyone cares to try it. nothin to lose, if you don't like it just put the sense file back and reboot.
I installed both the calendar and the sms app today and they seem to work fine. Haven't tried mms. Haven't uninstalled anything yet, will see if I run into trouble. Thanks for posting readk, been searching for this but didn't find it until now
EDIT: Ran into problems immediately of course where pressing the Messaging app launched the HTC Messages app. Following your instructions for backup and removal seems to have done the trick though. Next step will be to do the same for the calendar

Wow, get out of the basement once in a while and realize how to communicate with humans. I simply really liked the idea of stock ICS messaging on the HOX and since I don't have mine yet I was just asking to see it because I imagine it would look really awesome. Why would you? I guess since you were sharing what you were doing I thought you wouldn't mind. Guess not.

Hello,
I flashed the rom last night. It is amazing! But there is some problems for me...
1. Problem:
I am now trying to sync my facebook contacts with my google contacts... But there is no facebook contacts syncing... No facebook id in the people's contact menus...
I used htc sense roms before and i could've sync the facebook contacts.
And there is no contact sync menu in facebook App's submenus?
So do you know what the problem that i have?
2. Problem:
I can easily use the "phone pad keyboard types with t9" but i can't find a second keyboard type other than the miui keyboard in the miui's settings menu...?
Is there a way to change the miui's orijinal keyboard type to phone pad type ?

For facebook you will need to download the facebook app or any other app that syncs your contacts. A reboot may be needed. If you want to sync your facebook contacts with whatsapp along with your phone contacts, let me know I'll upload an app for that.
Or you could manually input your facebook contacts
I didn't understand your second question/problem.
Edit: heck, the app I mentioned.... you can find it if you scroll down a bit.

First of all,
Thank-you for your fast response...
1. & 2. Photos,
As you can see from the screen shots,
I have all ready install Facebook App. And it's showned at Acounts menu. But in the contacts menu, there is only Google and Exchange Acount showing..
So, the people in my contact list have not sync with my Facebook or Twitter Acount.
3. & 4. Photos
I installed an. Htc keyboard App. From the forum as you can see, i have just wanted to change orginal miui keyboard to phone pad type..
I think miui must have 2. Optional keyboard as standard..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA
That looks like miui ics. I haven't flashed that in a while. If I remember correctly there might have been problems with the contacts. Read the thread, yes, the 100+ pages or you can use the search function.
Before doing that you can try clicking on the sync off and then on to see if it resyncs and reboot if it doesn't show. If you already tried this then you can skip it.
With the keyboard, sorry I still don't know what you want to do. Coffee still hasn't kicked in.
Click on qwerty keyboard to see if that is what you want. But then again that should have been the default so you ahould have seen it.
If it is that you only want a dial pad, only numbers to show, that will show up in a few places, how to select that only, no idea.
Sorry if this is confusing, I just got up and coffee hasn't done its magic yet.
Edit: I think I see what you mean.
You want to use two different keyboards at the same time?
Or is it that you want to use only the t9/dial pad all the time?
The most I know is that you can change the theme for the keyboard, however, Im not sure if that is working in ics yet.

hmm,
i've just came at home and saw your reply...
i just want to use the dial pad keyboard style for all time... and i have used it with my old htc sense rom for along time...i installed an htc keyboard .apk from the forum as you see.. but miui doesnot have the dial pad keyboard style, it has only qwerty keyboard... am i correct?
i really liked miui, but the keyboard and the contacts sync issue is really important for me...
For facebook problem use (facebook sync application) is the best for now
and for the keyboard i don't get your problem but you maybe would to try perfect keyboard application

I got the same problem as you did. I even tried the app I mentioned before, didn't work. Have you done a search in the thread to see if others are experiencing the same problem?
Gonna flash blinds ics to see if the same thing happens.
Same thing happened with bliinds ics.
If you figure it out let me know.
Regarding the keyboard, couldn't figure it out.
Edit: apparently its an ics issue.

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out.
I just got the Galaxy Nexus and upgraded to the stock 4.2. I am very happy with it but there is one small snag.
I previously had the HTC hero and it had an option to intuitively search your contacts when you are typing stuff in the dialing pad. I don't see this in the vanilla Jellybean. It's really strange as this seems to me like a must-have function and I can't think why they would have omitted it.
I searched all the options over and over and found nothing. A friend of mine has a custom jelly and it has it.
Please tell me if I am doing something wrong or if this is by design for the vanilla version.
Thanks in advance!
yes, vanilla JB doesn't have that unfortunately. but, if you are rooted you could try replacing the stock dialer with the one with T9 capabilities - you could find it floating around the board, though i haven't tried yet,
or you could use custom ROM, that's what i did.
Download an app from play store.
I personally like DW contacts.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
You can also use exdialer from play store. Great dialer with themes. No root required.

By Design who needs T9 when you have Google Now? Just swipe up from Navbar and say call Contact X. Just about every custom rom features a T9 dialer so that is worth consideration.

I need it because I'm bulgarian and naturally my contacts all have names that Google Now has a pretty hard time recognizing when said aloud.
I'm thinking about a custom rom but for now I'll go with the dialers suggested in previous posts.
I still think that this option is something that any dialer should have and find it pretty puzzling that they should omit it in the stock one. My guess would be patent issues.
Anyways, thanks to all of you for your suggestions, you've been extremely helpful!
Cheers,
Hi,
I recently s-offed and rooted my girlfriend's wildfire, then installed CM7.2 stable (downloaded directly from cyanogenmod site). I noticed that the way it displays mobile numbers is weird. It used to be that it would display this: 09178994222. But after flashing with cm 7.2, it became this: 091-789-94222. I found the only way to prevent it from displaying it that way is to edit the contact and do it like this: +639178994222. Is there a way to make it display the way it used to? The original ROM is suited for the Philippines.
Thanks in advance!

Yes
Yes, you can try other apps.
But i dont see why you want it to display like it used to? Isnt it easier to read with " - " ?
When you receiving a call it display it "normally", which means that how you want it. Hope it helps. :fingers-crossed:
sorry if I didn't expound, but the number displayed is by the contacts app, which is then displayed that way as well by the dialer. also, no, displaying the numbers that way with the hyphen is not easier for us, because mobile numbers here usually are the first 4 numbers, not the first 3, so this way is actually more confusing.
i hope somebody can help.
