Need Help - HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
i appoligize in advance if this has been asked before, but as search is down i cant see if its been asked.
ok so heres the problem
a friend of mine dropped her wildfire s (it is completly std, on t-mobile in the uk), so being the nice guy i am and knowing a bit about mobiles, i said id take a look, and try to fix it. i looked at several guides, all std stuff. so i ordered the replacement digitizer, and got round to fitting it, before i finished i checked for any bits that i mite have forgotten. all there. clipped it back together and powered it on.
nothing, no light from the lcd, no light from anything, it did vibrate though, so i know it turned on.
so i took it apart again, checked and rechecked all connections, all seemed fine, i did notice there was no white cover on the lcd ribbon connector, there never was as i didnt have to remove one. i checked the ribbon itself and it looked alittle cracked, so i ordered a lcd, this is now fitted, battery is charged, and im still getting nothing from the lcd, i do however have an orange flashing light in the right speaker grill.
so here is where i need help,
how do i go about getting the thing to work, i dont wanna have to buy her a new phone, as i was only doing this as a favour, but i feel responsible for it.

Hi
I had this once with my wildfire as well (but not when I replaced the screen). When I drained my battery too much (don't ask) and I connected it to the power cord, the only life I got from it was the orange-blinking led. For the rest it did nothing.
The first time I just left it for a whole day on the charger. At a specific point, the led stopped blinking and I could get the device on.
The second time I rebooted the phone in the bootloader, and let it charge for, again, one day. You won't see that it is charging (i.e. you won't see the led color) and charging in bootloader goes EXTREMELY slow, but it charges nevertheless. So take your time for it, if you try this.
Good luck with it

How to replace the data port

Hey guys-- got back from the t-mobile store and they told me the data port is dead (from water damage). It turns on with a fresh battery fine, but apparently I'm getting an error code. That code is probably that the data port is messed up because I can't charge my battery. I'm assuming I have to replace it. Does anyone know of a video tutorial or something that will show me how to do it?
thanks.
the chances of the data port being physically damaged by water is very slim- I think they are trying to tell you the circuitry is faulty. If you had ripped the charger out and bent or broke the port, then I could see it- but water cannot bend or break that way and corrosion is unlikely unless its been sitting a while.
Back to the original subject though, I just replaced a faulty USB port on my friends Moto Q. It wasnt bad, but you need a very small pencil iron (I use a station) and good eyes, otherwise you will bridge the tiny connections and be fubar'd.

Where did you find the port to replace it with...
find a bricked one on ebay or something..or someone selling one with a cracked screen etc...use it for parts
welp, i've never soldered... guess you gotta learn sometime. ports are bout 25 bucks... Guess I have a new hobby. Or maybe I should just buy an external battery charger... soldering sounds more fun though. Yeah, what i meant by getting an error code is when i plug in the charging cord into the cell phone, I get a red light instead of yellow/orange. But, I have to push up on the cable where i insert it into the port to get anything. So, its not dead, but either dying or drunk....... drunk from oil.... which it swam in... and got sick from. vegetable oil, not motor oil... which would be a waste of oil. Anyways, thanks for the replies and if you stumble upon a vid for the dash, please post it. I found some on blackberries, but not an excaliber.
sorry browser problem (double posted)
my friend sourced his usb port from Mouser (P/N 538-67503-1020) for $1.12 each. I still have one (he got a spare) but I dont have a dash to take apart and compare the pins. I assume they are all the same generic port, but the pin spacing could differ
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=7zcQ9RRVJlhHWuXYKEhKMg==
that's pretty sweet speed. I bookmarked that webpage (dunno why really). I could just always link from here; but anyway, I received a new battery that I ordered before the geniouses at t-mobile told me that a red light is an error code, my old battery is perfectly fine, my data port is broken, and no... a new battery won't fix it. *** what's my point you ask?***
They don't know jack fecal matter. I just popped in the new battery and 1) my phone turned on, 2) my charging light turned orange, 3) my plug doesn't need adjusting to charge the phone, and just now 4) my phone has signaled to my through a pretty green light that the new battery just finished charging.
So, to recap, the guys at t-mobile said my port was fried and that all my problems were due to that. My theory was that oil (and come to find out water) damage caused the battery to malfunction and thereby refused to allow a current to charge it resulting in the errors. Turns out, I was right.
Thanks speed and all for your replies. If I need a cheap miniusb port in the future, I now have a good source. Now, Anyone know if a new lcd will fix the splotchy marks on my screen (look like dark puddle spots). I'll post a pic in a new post in a minute.
Yah you can grab a new LCD off ebay (fairly cheap) and then go to youtube and youtube "fix dash screen" and there is a tutorial on there that will guide you on replacing your screen.
just make sure its the lcd thats the problem- the outer clear part that you can touch is separate, and comes with the case. Mine are scratched to hell on both my Dash's but I refuse to buy new cases to fix them
i dunno what's up anymore
I don't know what to think of this thing anymore. This morning it wouldn't turn on, even though I had the green light on the device as it was plugged in all night. So, I kept fiddling with it hoping it would turn on so I could have ATT do a remote hard reset. Well... it wouldn't cooperate. So, I left it alone. Then this evening I was about ready to bury it and I tried the power button one last time and it turned on. But, the battery was really low and I got the red light again when I plugged it in. I guess the battery got a bit of a charge in itself just sitting there. So, perhaps the t-mobile guys do know what they're talking about. Well... i did actually get the orange light while it was on for that sweet minute, which should mean its charging, but I guess its not actually charging the battery. I suppose the last way to go is external charger. I'll probably pick one up off ebay for 15 bucks.

Screen died?

Last night I was out and during the night I pulled my desire z out of my pocket to find that the screen was dead, the soft touch buttons were still lit up and working but no display. I pulled the battery and tried to reboot and no luck, you can hear it booting and even unlock/receive calls and txts etc once it has booted up just the screen stays blank the whole time so have to do everything on feel.
Essentially does this just mean my screen has a hardware fault? is it worth trying to fix? I assume the only option would be to purchase a replacement screen and dissemble and reassemble it?
(warranty is not worth it as I live in New Zealand and would have to send my phone back to the UK where I bought it from, also I have dropped it quite a few times so probably voided anyway...)
Thanks in advance for any input
Does it never display anything? So not even a flash during boot or something?
Because then it is probably a hardware problem.
Since the soft touch buttons do still work I think there might be a little crack or something in the flat cable that connects the bottom half with the top.
Maybe you could check whether you can see if the cable is broken or not?
The best thing to do then is to look for a replacement and try to fix it yourself or bring it to a shop where they can do it for you.
No it never displays anything, completely dead the whole time. The touch input is still working though as I answered a phone call this morning on it by making the usual gesture just without being able to see anything. Doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the cable itself as far as I can see. Yea might have to get someone to have a look at it.
My phone is acting the same. I dropped my phone in the pond before, but pulled battery out on time and had it in rice for a day. My phone was still working for about two weeks after that incident. I dropped it and had one little crack at the top of the screen and about a week after that it died when I had a water balloon fight with the phone in my pocket. D;
Do any of you know if the replacement lcd screen/digitizer for the Desire Z would work for the G2?
I had the same thing happening to my G2 screen, only it was intermittently working for a little while, then just completely died and wouldn't work. It was doing this crazy flickering thing then the back light wouldn't go on at all. If I held the phone at a certain angle in the sun, I could see that the pixels were indeed working on the display, but there was no backlight to make them normally visible.
So I purchased a replacement screen from ebay and carefully followed the directions on a youtube video for a G2 take apart. Its not a hard task to take apart and get down to the screen itself. It was rather easy. After putting it back together the screen still didn't work! Sounds work, i can also receive calls etc. But the screen still doesn't work!
Is there any way that this could be a software issue?
Oh and PS, I believe the LCD replacement would work for both the desire Z and the G2. They are identical phones after all right? I'd say its a safe bet. The screen I bought was only 35 bucks. Didn't think that was a bad deal.
Another dead screen or something else?
Few days ago my phone fell of the couch onto a rug - no big deal, so far it has survived much worse, but when I picked it up, the colors were all messed up - overly green and red. Tried restarting - no luck. Everything worked fine, except the colors, but then the screen turned of completely. I could hear notifications, phonecalls, but the screen was dead. After some tapping on the screen, it turned on again - with ****ed up colors. Then started flickering and was gone again. Few more times I could turn it on by tapping before it was dead for good.
Figured, after all these drops it survived, maybe the screen connector is a bit loose. I mean, I could sometime get a contact when tapping it, so I dissasambled it completely, secured all the connection, put it all back tougether and fired up - same thing: dead screen, phone working.
Has anyone had such problem before? Is it screen that is dead, or connector or... I have no clue... I would like try to fix it on my own, with some replacement parts I could get on ebay - but, what gave?

LCD Replacement Problem

Ok so I replaced the LCD after watching a few videos no issues everything came off and went back on like it was supposed to but now the phone will not turn on and the battery is fully charged i get a quick blink of the light when I plug the phone in and thats it?
Try making sure all cables are in. Could've cone loose if it wasn't properly replaced.
Sent from Galaxy Note with CM9
if u are doing it right it will work. I've changed my droid x LCD watching those youtube videos
I've done this repair a few times and it normally depends on the LCD quality, actually had quite a few "tested" parts which were really faulty. If the connection is good and no rips, likely the part. I'm still looking for a good supplier for screens and parts. I don't trust ebay or amazon anymore... Tried a few other places too, like RU (terrible service).. Thanks!
Make sure the ribben cable is tightly secured. Mine wasn't turning on too when I took it apart to fix my red camera button.

[HORRBLE!] Software breaks after physical fall!?

So I was shopping for pants today, but I forgot I had my Desire in my pocket (front right one, if you want to know).
So, my phone fell on the ground and the battery and the cover flew off.
I quickly bought my pants and rushed out to see the damage...
IT WAS HORRIBLE!
The thing didn't want to boot, all it did was flash the red and green LED...
I (somehow) managed to get into bootloader to see the damage...
That was ALSO HORRIBLE!
The recovery kept restarting (4EXT, the loading screen that says 'preparing boot') and all I could do was take out the battery...
Thank god, Fastboot worked, so as soon as I came home I started running the RUU (from fastboot)...
Again, HORRIBLE!
when the RUU said the phone was gonna reboot into bootloader, it DIDN'T - the LEDs just kept flashing!
So I pressed power+vol- and that did the trick, but after the RUU finished ... again, flashy LEDs...
So, is this a software or hardware issue, and how to fix it (other than going to a guy and pay him to do it, which I'll do anyway if you people (god, no!) don't know the answer...)
I think I'll go to Fastboot next and clear all storage...
EDIT: Held the power button for a few secs, and the HTC boot logo shows up...
EDIT2: THE BOOTANIMATION!!! FINALLY!!!
Still, I'd like to know what the issue was, since it seems like it'll work normally from here on...?
Seems like all I've damaged are the LEDs and the camera Flash (the camera says it's too cold to use flash...)
I'll heat up the battery and report again
P.S.
Sorry for the double post... My PC is laggy today...
EDIT: Can't boot into 4EXT, no matter what... I tried CWM and it worked fine, but 4EXT won't...
And just today, I bought a new SDcard so I'd have more space and speed so I could partition it...
EDIT2: Also, the battery doesn't want to fill up... The second I take the charger out, it shuts down... Looks like I'm in need of a new battery... (curse my pants' pockets for being so big!)
It won't be bad to disassemble your phone and see if some connector disconnected.
How do I do that...? Is there like a hardware manual somewhere...? Because I'll need to know what screwdrivers I have to buy (I'm all out anyways...)
Yeah, it's probably the connector, since I can hear something shaking when I shake the phone (or it's something broken... hope it's the first thing)
Otherwise, there's a little power button glitch when turning the thing on... The LEDs flash and I can only boot if I hold the vol- button (can't do anything, not even bootloader!)
P.S.
I was just waiting when you'd reply (oh, Great one!)
Youtube is a miracle...
You'll need TORX screewdriver (star shape 6 angles), a small one.
Took my phone apart, saw the drivers I need... Just gotta wait till morning so BauHaus opens up...
I saw the tut on how to replace the screen, so that will help... Other solutions WILL be YouTube, since I don't understand anything from those pictures (but the text part of the guide is great)
I found another glitch: The LEDs flash if charging even if the battery is 60 meters away... I don't believe that's a sign of a disconnected connector... Hope it is
EDIT: Installed SetCPU, and my battery has been at 0% for the last 12 hours (without charging)... And the phone works... It just won't turn on sometimes...
Picking up those screwdrivers at about 6 pm
Just one question:
Is it possible for a connector to break? And if so, if one is broken in my phone, is it possible to replace it...? (haven't gotten the screwdrivers yet...)
If not, do I have to replace the whole cable, whole motherboard or only the component of the connector...? Or even the whole phone...?
I just popped it open... Now what? I disconnected and connected every single connector, reassembled it and the LEDs still glitch... And the phone won't go beyond the boot logo...
Could it be the battery? I saw a new scratch today, could I've damaged the battery and that is what's wrong...?
EDIT: Disassembled it again, looking for anything unusual (note that I don't have a single clue about what I'm looking for...)
Looks like I'm leaving the Android phone world... for the next 4-6 years... :'( Good old Nokia, I'm glad I didn't throw you away...
And it appears I'm yet again talking to myself...
Anyways, I'm taking the phone to a check to a repair shop, so I'll know what's wrong...
EDIT: The guy in the shop said a check is free, so I'm just gonna chill and play Minecraft for the next few days until he calls
Meh... The guy at the store checked it (FINALLY!) and he said the motherboard was dead...
And that costs 200€ to repair...
Anyways, I went to another shop and got me an Xperia S...
Goodbye, developer phone
wow 200 for mobo, u could get a good second hand desire that aint pvt1 for 100 lol. ah well hope u get better luck with ur new phone
Sent from my HTC Desire
I bought my Desire a few months ago, in June, for 120€ (PVT3). It was used, but it was the only used Desire in town... (seriously, I was the only person with a HTC Desire in my town (with 200k people!))
Ah well...
Guess I'll be the only owner of a Xperia S in 4 years

Charge port board replacement

Anybody know where i could find the daughter board? My pixel XL ended up the in the pet bowl for 5 seconds. The rest of the phone works, but that board is not working. (No sounds, charging, or vibration) I sent the phone to UbreakIfix (supposedly they get oem parts) They said they tried replacing it and it didn't work. When I get the phone back from them, I will look at my phone to see if they even looked at it. I don't really want to pay the deductible of 200 and wait forever for a replacement from Asurion. Plus it is a verizon model, so most likely it will come with 7.1.1.
Update on the water damaged pixel xl from my post in the general thread:
"I have good news, I don't think the company I sent the phone to did jack. The phone didn't look any different, even though they did a lot of work to the phone. I got the phone back today, I plugged it in and still nothing. I wanted to see for myself what was inside (ifixit wasn't enough). I tore it apart and did not see any corrosion. The water sensor is visible when you take off the screen through the mid-frame. It was 3/4 tripped (1/4 was still white). So I tried unplugging and re-plugging everything in. I plugged the charger in and the screen lit up with 0%. The phone didn't charge up after a while, even with the screen still on. I did the water recovery on the board on the bottom with the charge port. Next I only got a blinking red light and no screen lit up. I let it sit for 15 min. Tried turning it on, nothing. So I help down the power button while unplugging and plugging it in multiple times, and voila it turned on! Everything works on the phone! So I put it back together, put 3M industrial adhesive, and it is currently under clamps.
TL;DR I did my own water recovery on the phone, and I got it working!"
I did not find a replacement board, so much for modular replacement parts. I can only find screens. It doesn't help that the phone is so back ordered. Maybe when things tone down, we will see replacement parts.

Where did you find replacement screens available for sale? I know there is a 3rd party google uses to actually do the repair but I haven't seen the screens available for sale anywhere yet?

The third party is uBreakiFix, they get oem parts, and they said it will not void your warranty. They couldn't get my phone going, so I took it into my own hands and got it working. They were confused how I got it working (the person on the phone) and they couldn't. uBreakiFix is 149.99 to replace the screen, and they send you a mailing slip for free to mail the phone in. I am not affiliated with them at all, I am a miniority owner/repair tech of a repair shop where I live. You can find them all over the web. My company uses fixez.com to order screens from. They obviously aren't oem, but we have had good luck with screens from them for different devices we have fixed (samsung, apple, htc, ect).
If you want oem I'd send it in to ubreakifix to get repaired. If not here is example of two sites:

Basically you have to do what ifixit's tear down does. I think they might have been a bit too hasty or used too much heat getting the screen off since they broke the screen. Once I got the screen off, it wasn't too hard to get all the screws out and the mid frame off. The power and volumne flex come up with the mid frame. I cleaned the motherboard connection and cleaned the whole board on bottom with some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. After all the alcohol dried up, I hooked the flex from the mobo to the charge port board and plugged it in.
