Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project 2.3, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features.
It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
-Built In File Manager
-Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
-XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout – true theming!
-Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
-Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
-Ability to choose to compress backups – now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
-Onscreen keyboard
-Decryption of /data
-Easy selection of internal/external storage
-See changelog below for 2.3 features
Current Issues:
USB to PC mount not working :/
Device assert issue - some packages wont install

the greater good will the twrp version that you have work with any one of the roms here or is there a specific rom that the twrp is supposed to be flashed with. Also can you give me an easier way to root. can you also put together an auto root which would install either clock work mod or twrp with super su in an automated package that i can flash through odin an then from there go to ggoo manager and then flash the rom, gapps an the curnal once these are in more stable releases. I truely appreciate all the great work that you do on all of these package just would like to now have an automated proces to do all this and then there will be even more people wanting to go through the approach of rooting and flashing when there is an automated way. automation is much easy and can make things much easier for a new bee. again thanks for the great work that you and the d mand all the other developers who i dont know there names but will giv them credit all the time for wonderful and awsom projects.
Nice work!
2 files? the firs is via odin right? what is more recommendable? odin or CWM flashable? I want to try it
:good:will themes work on this??? working nice!!!

The CWM flashable worked fine for me. Backup and restore worked well on both internal and external memory, although when it finishes backing up, it won't let me go back, so I have to pull the battery, then it boots back into TWRP and I can finish what I'm doing. It also installs zips just fine. All in all, this recovery is pretty good.

Just tried it, backed up and went back with no problem, try reflashing

Seems as though TWRP won't let me flash TWRP, so I guess I'll flash it with odin if it bothers me too much. It's not really all that big of a deal, especially when I can reboot by holding the power button anyways.

lol
I saw you said USB mounting doesn't work, does that mean ADB doesn't work as well, or is ADB separate? I tend to adb file transfer ROMS and such through recovery so there is less going on (slightly faster transfer I've noticed)

i think there is an issue wit TWRP .... remove this in the installer script of the zip ur trying to flash for now ... ill get it fixed
Code:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGHI927R" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGHI927" );
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGHI927R" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGHI927" );

Only problem I'm having, when I'm trying to get to recovery,it takes a while to get their like 20 to 30 seconds. Lags @ samsung screen. Is that normal it did it in cwm too
AzraelsKiss said:
I tried that in the keyboard lights fix for cm10.1, but it didn't help. I've tried a few hacks to the installer script, but it keeps failing out. I'm gonna go with my original theory that my phone is a bit "special". No worries though. Once I added the system folder from the keyboard lights fix to the LiteKernel-4.2-20130113.zip and flashed that, I now have keyboard lights, so all is well with the "special" phone for now.

I do hope you're new to this... "It doesn't work", "it won't let me", "it failed" et al are utterly worthless by themselves. What does it say on the screen?

I do hope you realize if I thought it was truly an issue with TWRP, I wouldn't keep saying that my phone is "special". I don't remember demanding anyone to fix this for me. I was just providing my view of things, while I try to fix my issues myself. Please forgive me for my indiscretions. I will remove the offending posts.
BTW... I removed the lines in the updater-script as thegreatergood suggested, and resigned the zip, and cm10.1-keyboard-lights-fix installs for me now. I'll attach the resigned zip, so you can check it out. I'm not an expert at all this, so I'd suggest to just use the file as an example, although it hasn't yet broke the "special" phone, as far as I can tell so far.
I am having an issue after backing up, it seems I cannot get back to the main menu & have to force reboot using the power button. Was wondering if anyone else is having this issue?

I have the same issue, but others aren't, so it seems like it may only be an issue with some phones.

Time Has Come!!!
All the features I've been able to compile into CM7 for the NS4G will be available on the nightly published Saturday (5/21) evening (plus lots of nemith's fixes)!
Myself and other teamw.in members will continue to help out with the NS4G CM7 effort!
nemith is running the show as the NS4G CM7 maintainer! Lets support him!
We are all on irc.freenode.net in #NexusS4G. Feel free to join us!
Enjoy my last version (5/21/2011 - 1am)!
New Official CM7 NS4G Thread
One last link: cm_crespo4g_full-2-jk.zip
Added the libakm.so library for rotation. Should be in nightly 3.
Please use the official nightly releases for CM7 on the NS4G
Everything below this text is no longer supported.

Toastcfh, toastcfh, and toastcfh ... plus teamwin !!
Background:
Hopefully I didn't miss this and somebody already posted! I don't keep up on the forums as much as I'd like!
Toastcfh gave me some directions on how to get cm7 compiling ... and the rest is teamwin magic!
I basically kang'd crespo files and referenced the supersonic (my previous phone) plus cm7 already grabbed most of the crespo4g files from the aosp commits. After all that it, compiling was downhill. I've got it booted and running on my NS4G for 45 min now.
I'm posting the .zip for everybody to test and try. I'm doing my best to push the changes I've made to CM7 so they can officially be included in the nightlies!
Sorry for the lack of details. Wanted to get this out to everybody as soon as I was able to confirm it works. I will update as the night goes on and tomorrow
Goal:
Get all my configuration and changes merged into the official CM7 for NS4G so all can build this ROM for themselves! Once there is a version of CM7 (might need a guide) for all users to compile, I plan to stop posting personal builds and redirect everybody to the official CM7 NS4G nightlies!
Nemith, the official CM7 maintainer is doing a great job helping me and all CM7 NS4G users!
Thank you everybody for the support and troubleshooting!

Hey guys. We still need touchscreen calibration values for the SGS2.
If you want to help us out:
download the installer.zip file
reboot to recovery
flash the zip file
After the splash screen, hit the menu button on your phone and select "Calibrating tools" with your volume keys and select it with power.
When "alternative touch methods" comes up, select "no"
Follow the instructions on touching the white dots. You may need to hold your finger over them for a few seconds until it registers the touch, if not keep trying by lifting your finger and pressing for a few seconds again.
At the end of the calibration, it'll give you some text with the calibration values.
Type the text it gave you here so we can get the proper values updated and you can have a full touchscreen experience.
Note, that after this you will need to quit the installer. If you continue to go through with the installation your phone will be formatted. This will only happen if you don't quit the installer! You can quit it by hitting the menu key and selecting "quit installer"
i tried flashing this thru cwm, but it didnt work properly, there was what seemed like a new recovery but there was no text so i couldnt tell what i was doing.

Oh yes! The no text bug. I forgot about that. I'm gonna fix that right now. Download the installer.zip file in 5 minutes after I push the changes to github. You'll need to use the same link that's in the OP.
---------- Post added at 09:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:45 PM ----------
Okay the new file has been posted. You can grab it from the same link in the OP. It has font detection enabled so that it will use the font included by default if it doesn't find a ROM to use the font from
TeamWIN has released TWRP recovery for the Samsung Hercules!
For those who do not know, TWRP is a touchscreen, GUI based recovery, akin to CWM touch.
Credits to the people who put the CWM flashable zip together:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Backups/nandroids made with CWM do NOT work with TWRP. I would suggest installing the recovery while on a stable rom (Gingerbread), making a backup, then installing the ICS roms.
TWRP is also themeable - search around for TWRP 2.X themes and you will find plenty.
To use themes, rename the zip file to ui.zip (if it doesn't already have that name) and place it in /sdcard/TWRP/theme [create the directory if necessary].
If you're looking for a great ics theme, check out my theme at the bottom of the post [based on this.
[Studies show that this does NOT cause bricks. Any bricks that were caused were found to be due to user error/that leaky ICS skyrocket rom. However, as always, exercise caution when flashing roms/kernels/modems/etc...]
[Further, this recovery seems to work as well or better than CWM Touch or standard CWM for flashing AOSP roms (CM9/AOKP). If you plan to flash one of those, you would be better off using this recovery.]
[With this recovery, it does not seem to be necessary to use Darkside Super Wipe/Fix Permissions script. The built-in wipe/fix works just as well.]

SWEETness. i like this recovery a lot more than clockwork mod.. at least the versions i used on the HTC sensation 4g
my favorite recovery was 4EXT or something like that, but team win makes a good one
BTW,
this works on our device, just change the first line of the update-script file to this:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGH-T989" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SGH-T989" || getprop("ro.product.board") == "MSM8660_SURF");
(or just erase the whole first line)
thanks for sharing!
frescoraja
EDIT:
it's pretty awesome, a touch screen GUI recovery with a lot of options CWM doesn't have.. just make the edits to the update-script like i said above, rezip it, flash it ! sorry i can't post screenshots, no camera besides my phone!
Cool not to familiar with updating scripts so I guess I will wait.

How to resolve Flashing Error
Usually, if you are on LT28h firmware, you should not get any flash error. This is for those who are not on LT28h firmware.
Method 1:
Edit the build.prop under /system on the phone, change the below lines:
Code:
ro.build.product=LT28xx
ro.product.device=LT28xx
TO
Code:
ro.build.product=LT28h
ro.product.device=LT28h
Save the file and reboot.

Click to collapse
Method 2:
Open the Rom Zip using an archiver like Winzip/7zip. (dont use windows open, open with an archiver).
Goto "/META-INF/com/google/android/" folder.
Edit the "updater-script" file, preferably using notepad++ if you are on windows.
Change "LT28h" in the below line to what ever your Build.prop says.
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "LT28h" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "LT28h" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "aoba" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "aoba");
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
If build.prop shows "LT28i", then change as below
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "LT28i" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "LT28i" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "aoba" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "aoba");
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Save the file and close the zip. Now you are ready to flash.
If it still does not work, delete the line and try flashing again.

@faiisfaizal
Regarding GPU over clocking:
I am not a kernel developer. I make them mostly learning from google search and occasional help from other devs.
I am also interested in dirtying my hands into GPU OC. So lets see how it goes.
@xyge
No it is not based on FXP.
OC kernel already included.
I think Inverted multi dpi playstore mods Should be ok.
SlomRoms site is down for some reason.

No greying of statusbar for me. Just to be sure, I checked with 3 to 4 different dpi settings.
I cant tell about Whatsapp though.
It was my fault, i set the transparency of the statusbar too high.

It seems that you have the same problem with every cm10.1 rom. Do a full wipe by 1. wipe data, 2. wipe cache, 3. delvik cache and 4. go to mounts and storage and format system. Then flash the rom and check without gapps that all is working well or not. Then flash gapps and check again. If problem is with gapps download from some other source. Hope it solves the problem.
ROM looks beautiful but is mostly in chinese language despite changing system language to english. Also, wind kernel is used which is still in development.
cm10.1

Does any one know how I can change the superuser app? The superuser that came with the package is in chainese. I installed clockworkmod and chainfire Superuser apps but they failed in updating su binaries.
-- nevermind, I installed the recovery-flashable and solved the problem.

Then I am out of answers as nobody else having these problems. You may try to re-flash from scratch i.e. flash any kdz then install root and recovery then install the rom.

Yes you are right. All activities about this phone is mostly in Chinese forums. At the same time It is also true that its support on xda and english forums is very very slow. And Chinese developed custom roms are ununderstandable whether it supports English or not. Whereas we see huge activities in the xda forums of other low end devices like HTC Explorer etc etc. Anyway whatever devs are doing for this device is always appreciable as they need more feedback and encouragement for further development.
