I was wondering if any one who had a ns4g and used the sprint insurance was sent a galaxy nexus. I've known people who have gone from an epic to epic 3d and now a gs2 just by putting in a insurance claim. My nexus needs to be replaced and I'm trying to figure out if I should use the insurance or just by a used phone since I'm not eligible for an upgrade.

If there's nothing wrong with your device it's definitely "morally dark-gray" to try to finagle an upgraded device for free but if there's something wrong with it why are you asking us? Use the insurance that you've been paying for.

There is a laundry list of problems with my phone. I don't want to get stuck with and gs2 or epic 3d which I think would be downgrades. Another ns4g would be fine. I will be paying for the insurance deductible, which I still pay for monthly, and instill plan on upgrading in a few months. I am not trying to get something for free.
I just want to know should I pay my$100 for a replacement or go buy something from craigslist to buy some time.

Never heard of an epic 3D. I know there's an Evo 3D but I doubt they will send u an older phone than yours. It doesn't work that way. They will send u a refurbished nexus or something newer of equal value.

If there's something wrong with your phone you won't have to pay the deductible. Just take it to a local Sprint corporate store, sign a form absolving them if they lose your data (make a backup and restore it to stock beforehand obviously) then give it to them for about an hour. They'll either fix it on the spot, order a replacement at no cost to you or if you've had 4 or more/ assurion is out of NS4Gs you'll be offered a similar device of your choosing.

My apologies I don't know whether to put this here or in Q&A.
I went to Sprint, RadioShack, Best Buy, and the spot on the XDA website and got several drastically different trade-in values for my phone. The range has been from $50 to $80 (over $115 on a best buy giftcard). I then see people here and on google+ selling it for $100 to $250 for thiers.
My original plan is to wait for someone to miss the physical keyboard enough to trade their Epic Touch for my Epic. But I doubt that so how much is this phone really worth? Sprint still sells it over $500 and I know I can't ask the $499 for it ($300 probably still be to high) so what is reasonable (and most profitable) asking price (or price range)? OR is there a way to get more for trade-in?

no one here is going to really get 200-250.
you can find very good condition epics on craigslist for 125 all day with all accesories. i just bought a "bricked" epic yesterday to play with for 51.80 on ebay. im sure ill get it running in a matter of minutes of getting it.
these people asking 225, but then claim we are all a freindly super happy community should sell them on here for a more appropriate price to thier geek buddies.
I see. Well I guess criagslist is my best bet. I'll have to wait until November when I'll have extra money.
Sent from my un-rooted Samsung Epic 4G with XDA Premium
I would think the retail price of the Epic will plummet soon after the release of the Touch so it may be harder to get anything over $100 selling a used one. I know there have been recent instances of people getting $200 for Epics (usually unlocked ones), but most sales are in the $125 range as austin420 said. I'm probably going to ditch mine once I upgrade next month, so we'll see what the market dictates then.
You're probably right. Also anyone know how much the Epic Touch is with the one year $75 upgrade (cause clearly $199 is more than just $150 off)?
Sent from my un-rooted Samsung Epic 4G with XDA Premium
I sold mine for $215 but it was new (backup phone). My current Epic is in near mint condition and I'd be thrilled if I got $150 for it once the replacement drops.

I would personally pay a little more for a phone from here than I would from craigslist. I just feel like I can trust you guys a little more and I think take the same care with your phones that I take with mines.
Nothing would be worse than the get a perfectly working phone on craigslist at the time and then have it stop working a week later due to water damage. Sure, I can happen anywhere. I'm just a little more trusting about you forum strangers.
I went to my local sprint store today and they said they will give 125 for my epic if I was to preorder the e4gt.

3% to PayPal and 9% of grand total to ebay IIRC and shipping was not included. Anything more than what gazelle or buymytronics was offering was gravy to me honestly. I didn't want to deal with craigslist either for some reason...

Ok let's try this, how much would YOU be willing to pay for:
-Used, fully functioning Samsung Epic 4G runing Android 2.2 an has never been rooted.
-Orignal Box and Manual
-Original USB charger
-2GB AND 256MB MicroSD cards and adapters and small protective case for them
Or would you be willing to trade a Samsung Epic Touch (even if was just the phone with no charger or microSD) for the above? (Really wants this phone x.x) Though I don't expect any one to want to trade at least not for another couple of months.
Sent from my un-rooted Samsung Epic 4G with XDA Premium
You might get $120 for it but people are gonna be disappointed with no 16gb sd card since that's what it shipped with.
You might find someone willing to trade for the epic touch if you throw in $150+ with your phone.
I think your best bet is to order the epic touch when you find a deal, wirefly had it for $130 pre-order a couple weeks ago, then sell your epic4g to recover most of the cost.
Edit 2: I have seen some epics trade for nexus s 4g's so that might be something to look at as well.
The thing you have to think about when trading/selling phones: are you selling a phone and an upgrade credit, are you buying a phone and an upgrade credit? That's why newer phones sell for so much more because it cost someone their upgrade credit to get it.
Ok thanks

Okay. Well first of all, Verizon doesn't provide in-house insurance. They go through a 3rd party - such as Asurion. And secondly, I *think* as long as you're paying your monthly insurance payment it should go through, but perhaps you should contact them and make sure that the policy has indeed crossed over to your new phone.
If for some reason it hasn't carried over and someone gives you a hard time about it, stop into a store and tell them your assurion fell off when you did a sim change. They'll usually throw it back on for you.
It -should- carry over, though. If you purchased a different type of insurance (such as Protectcell) then you'll just want to call that company, cause it's usually transferable.
Not sure what I went through. All I know is that I don't pay a monthly fee, I paid the 100 straight up.

Sprint and asurion must be having a bad day. sprint store manager told me to report phone as lost since they didnt have another gs3 in stock.
stupid me bricked it flashing all nilly willy.
with the help-of a fellow xda member unbricked called to cancel asurion claim, they said its too late we are sending you another phone.
so im paying $150.00 for another gs3
and this one is still activated seems silly ,they cant even change the claim to found or whatever and since it was reported lost i actually cant return it , The system wont allow me too.
so ill have 2 sgs3 hmm this is stupid something tells me these phones dont cost as much as claimed.
Make a big enough stink about it and they'll take it back I'm sure.

ESN will be marked bad since it is reported stolen.
You'll likely get a new one since the phone is so new.
Under the new insurance I think you can only replace your phone 2x per year (or I think 3x per 2 years).
You could donate/sell it to a dev.
reported lost

That's why it says $150 Non-Refundable deductible. Doesn't matter what the reason.
Just wanted to let you guys know ahead of time, it was communicated to us yesterday via the Playbook that the fee for a Service & Repair fix/replacement for people that do NOT have TEP or ESRP is increasing from $35 to $50. This will go into effect 1/11.
It's still a good deal, considering things like OEM screens and refurbs cost well over that amount, but wanted to forewarn you guys anyway. So for you non-TEP people, if you plan on bricking your phone, do it and get in to the store by the 10th Or if you're in need of a legit repair obviously lol.
As always, you'll still have the option to add TEP the day of a paid repair/replacement.
EDIT: also, this change in policy does NOT qualify you to get out of contract early, as it is considered a voluntary service. This was communicated explicitly.
Your friendly neighborhood technician.

I've had 5 replaced without TEP for $35 each. Yep, I'm good at bricking them. Anyway, let's say I only bricked 1, then $35 at the time or even $50 after the 11th is a lot cheaper than buying one anywhere else. Unless you have a supplier willing to sell refurbs with a warranty for that cheap. Which I doubt.
Thanks for the heads up squshy!

Grumblings in the company are that this will likely be changed soon, as it is generally implied the battery is covered under TEP, not a 1 year warranty. Obviously I would agree with you, I find it asinine that they currently aren't.

Just an fyi, you can get never opened oem batteries on Amazon for 10 dollars. But regardless, you can get almost anything from a cellular service if you threaten to cancel to the retention department. Also, word on the street (some vendor reps) is that this may change...who would have thunk that full replacements for things like blown speakers would be a financial burden?

idk, I just know that I was with them from April 2010 to September 2011. During this period, I had my Motorola Droid replaced approximately 8 times (poor build quality on that phone - dust under the screen and flaky headphone jack). It wasn't me causing the problems because my epic touch has held up just fine for me. They eventually replaced my droid with a Droid Incredible 2 at no charge. I never had TEP and never paid a penny for warranty service. It was always a hassle free replacement. Maybe it's changed since then, idk.
I only switched to Sprint after Verizon started throttling the "unlimited" data they sold me. I was able to switch without an etf after some complaining and threatening a small claims lawsuit.

I originally ordered my GS3 from amazon and it said it was an unlocked i9300. I opened the box and I had received a i747, at least it was unlocked though. I use t-mobile's 30$ a month plan. That was 6 months ago. I flashed my first ROM and my IMEI was reset to 0 and about a month in I dropped my phone shattering the screen. Ever since the IMEI blanked the phone has had data issues.
This is where I come to a dilemma. I like the GS3, but I feel like this one is beyond fixing for me.
Should I
A) Sell the old GS3 on eBay and risk the buyer having data issues. I don't know how much a broken screen GS3 would sell for.(I also burned the digitizer trying to replace the glass)
B) sell the phone to one of those cheap sites online that give you like 100 dollars for it.
C) save up another 600 bucks to buy a new GS3 from T-Mobile.
D) wait for the GS4 and buy one under contract from AT&T
E) Send it to Samsung hoping they just send me a new phone instead of fixing the screen.

I see. Well it certainly sounds like a good idea to get a new phone then. If you do plan on switching over to att and need a phone right away, you can ask them to assist you in the early termination fee. I think they covered $100. That way, you can get the subsidized phone of your choice.

I can't tell you what you should do, however I can tell you what you should've done.
You should've reported that seller on amazon, made a claim on paypal or with your bank/credit card institution for fraud, and got your money back and possibly been able to keep the phone.
I've been in a situation like that, once ordered a iPod touch 4g 64GB off ebay, received a 16GB 3G touch. Made a claim on paypal, gave him some nasty feedback, and Paypal eventually returned my money and I then sold the 3g on ebay for an additional 200 bucks. Winnar.

No contract obligations here. I dropped 600 dollars for this phone. I think I'll wait for the S4 next month and go to AT&T. Their prices for a 3GB plan is cheaper than T-Mobile now. T-Mobile needs to be careful with this phone lease idea as it currently pushes them over the price of AT&T if text isn't important. I use Google voice so texting isn't important to me.
