I want a 4x6 table icon layout. I do not want to use a launcher or custom rom. Can this be modified via the systemUI.apk using the apktool? Is there a 'tweak' which has already been released to accomplish this?
How do I manually modify icons (without launcher/rom). Specifically which folder would I look in and are there any problems with replacing the file?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
App icons are stored in the apk themselves. Custom launchers give you the ability to choose what icon to see, be it the default stored in the apk or one you select.
Check out cleanrom to see how the alternate layout grid factors were achieved.

hi,
quick question: how to edit the quick settings in the drop-down menu (notification tray) in Gingerbread Sense ROMs ? (im using insertcoin)
i want to know ! how to do ?
Maybe this Thread helps you
well unfortunatetly no answer there, just an idea to decompile an .apk and suit it to my needs.
still, anyone ?
Its so simple in MIUI Rom... their is an option in settings/Personal/ Custom Status Bar..
Incase you desperately want the setting, you can try MIUI ;-)
Well it's a difference if you did the thing yourself or if you want to change a HTC based feature without big hacks. I think it's pretty much impossible.
But if there is a solution, let me know - 2G/3G is missing
it is not impossible, in stock you get only a few quick settings, in custom roms (rcmixs, insertcoin) devs extended it - i want to know how, so i can remove the unneeded shortcuts.
robocik: not that easy, you should take a modded systemui.apk and a stock one, decode both with apktool and diff them, that way you will see how it is maked and will be easier for you to modify it.
this is the method, have not tried it yet though.
if any of you intrested guys tries to do this, i really apprecieate your feedback here thx.
and big thanks to robo, not only for all the amazing job he is doing for our community, but also for responding to my Q
I have rooted Desire Z with Virtuous Sence v2 Rom.
Go to

and download Extra QuickSettings 0.2
http://www.multiupload.com/W7GXFQJN6R
Extract SystemUI.apk from zip file.
I used DroidExplorer to replace original : system/app/SystemUI.apk
with the downloaded one and have ne quick settings menu.
Is there any way to change "quick settings" with rooting?
If by "change" you mean "add/remove features in the settings list", yes, there is. Check out this thread.
Hey guys,
i want to edit the quick settings in the notification bar. I don't want to flash anything, i want to edit it by myself, so i can put in the stuff i want.
can somebody tell me, witch things i have to edit and where i find them. Or is this too complicated?
(I'm using 2.13 jikantaruROM - Android 1.3.5)
You can only if you create a rom with the desired features in it, then you can also add the quick settings to power menu.
If you install CM7, you can have a quick settings bar at the top.
I'm still s-on and use widgets for this. Go Launcher with the Go widget works great!
I'm trying to delete battery icon profiles from ROM Control - IceColdSandwich. I know that icons are in SystemUI but somewhere there, there is a list of them and I want that deleted too, because if I delete icons only they do not show up in the menubar but the list is still intact. It's somewhere in xml files, I tried baksmali both systemui and romcontrol but I'm not fluent with code and I can't find it. Any help would be useful.
Also anyone knows how to set the clock color to #ffd3d3d3 and center it? I know I can do that in ROM Control easily, the thing is I want it set like that by default. When I flash the ROM I want it to be set like that from the start.
I seriously loathe the uber-colorful icons that TouchWiz has for things like the Camera, Gallery, Dialer, etc.
What do I need to do to change them to stock JellyBean icons? Root? Theme? Alternative launcher?
Thanx in advance.
It's super easy to change icons using Nova, & you don't need root. I don't have experience with other launchers, or methods.
ROM - Odexed Blue JB "Holy Grail" LJ7
Baseband - LJ7
Kernel - KT747 TW JB LJ7
Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 using XDA-Premium
Idk if it's the same on the s3 but it is easier if rooted I believe. Drag your rom that your theming onto your computer, find system ui. Apk and extract just that, then open it with 7zip or something like that and then it's in one of the folders inside of the res folder. I think that's where the icons are stored. As long as you don't change the names, you'll be fine. Just replace them and restart your phone. Or re flash using the modified rom
Download a launcher of your choice. My first choice for pimping the UI is sslauncher. Then find an icon pack you want to use. For simple icons that you can choose the colour of I recommend MetroStation.
Icons are normally change in most launchers by first placing them on you home screen and then long pressing them and choosing edit.
Good luck
Check out "mycolorscreen" for inspiration.
Thanx to all 3 of you.
Do any of the methods above help with the notification icons also? I find it really odd that the text messaging notification icon is an envelope... you know, like email.
Hi,
i have installed the B330 for PLK-L01. It came with new icons (imgur. com/453jDMn - I am not allowed to post outside link, co please erase the space before .com), which i really like. Unfortunately I dont know where to find these icons for if i want to change the theme. For example the icons changed after I installed deodexed yoda rom. So now I cant change the theme if i want to keep these icons
Is it possible to download this iconpack somewhere?
I use apex launcher and i didnt download any specific theme or iconpack. These icons were simply there after i installed B330. I think that they were there even before installing apex, so it shouldnt have any connection to this launcher.
Thanks in advance.
I think they are not the default icons, you should check it again by installing Apex, so that we can confirm.
Other than that the background boxed icons file is situated at /system/themes/.
Hope this helps you.
