[Q] Help with data2ext on JT R30 please ? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have just got my first Droid (Desire HD) and I love it - I am an experienced techie (software developer) but have no experience of custom roms etc before reading stuff on this great forum
Anyway here is the situation : The phone is rooted and is running Jellytime R30 and 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M radio (had to flash this to get the GPS working).
It also has clockworkmod installed.
It has a 32gb SD card.
Now, it is working like an absolute dream and I have installed lots of shiny apps (including lots of paid ones such as copilot). Thing is that they are taking up lots of space on the internal storage. I have been able to move 60% of them to SD using the inbuilt feature but I am now considering moving them all to SD via data2ext (through ROM Manager).
Here are my questions :
1. Will moving all apps to SD give me a performance hit - IE: Does the sd memory (Sandisk HS) read considerably slower than internal?
2. What is the best way to go about it considering I have a collection of apps already installed and split between SD and Internal memory - Should I uninstall ALL apps and then partition the SD and then reinstall them all again ?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

First Ever HTC Phone

Hello guys,
I am very new to HTC phone and i managed to root my htc desire
using this guide nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire
after root you can see in the picture i have App2sd enabled in pictures but my internal phone memory is still going lower. I have couple of gameloft games installed Ashphat 5, RealFootball, Gangster, heavy gunner and hawx and apps like astro, act1, documents to go.
I tried installing Darktremor A2SD version 2.7 but phone kept on restarting after htc logo so i rooted the phone again with nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire guide.
My phone is on orange contract uk. I don't want to brick this phone.
please guide me to the right direction to install right rom with apps2sd+ or apps2sd so that every thing gets installed on sd card instead of phone memory. I have been reading this forum and Modaco forum for couple of days now. I can't get apps2sd to work properly so i can have loads of phone memory.
I have 16gb Sd card class 2 during apps2sd process i made Goldcard with sd card 4gb which came with the phone.
I don't want to brick my phone. what is the safe method?
Please guide me in right direction so i can enjoy desire more.
Sorry if i asked question which were asked before.
Thanks
I'm facing the exact same problem as yours. All the tests shows that app2sd and app2sd+ is working.
But, the internal memory still decreases. Till now, I have no idea how to solve this.
Apparently it's related to the /data/data/ folder still filling, I don't know much more past this point.
There must be another rom which has app2sd+ where application gets installed in to sd card.
I am not sure about if i should boot to some awesome roms posted here. Will try when someone who was in same situaution as me gives me thumb up to install new rom and apps2sd which works

As has been previously said, the application does get installed to the SD card. However, any "data" in /data/data is left in internal memory.
I have Copilot installed on my Desire. It takes up 18.50mb in total - 11.23mb for the application and 7.27mb for data. If I used Apps2SD, I should regain the 11.23mb, but the 7.27mb data is still in internal memory.
Regards,
Dave
I understand that some data gets installed on internal phone memory. I also read in these forum people are downloading google earth and co pilot big application and they still have over 100mb data left in internal memory. I haven't installed apps2sd+ i only have apps2sd normal when i followed this guide nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire.
I wanted to know is there any other rom which has apps2sd+ which store majority data in sd but not internal rom.
Which rom do you think is better for newbie like me. Modaco customer R3 which has app2sd+ custom build or any other free rom in htc Desire Android Development thread?

[Q] Installed CR BlissMod007, can't install apps, although sufficient space free

Hi dear xda-community.
I'm new to the forum but calm down, yes I used the search engine to find my solution, but to my problem I could'nt find one so far. Maybe you can help
I installed the recommended Radio 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 and flashed my old (very old ) Defrost v.6.1 with Android 2.1 to BlissMod007 with Sense 3,5 and Android 2.3.3., full wipe of internal memory beforehand included.
It worked fine so far but I can't install any new app from the new android market. It says that there is no free space but its not true.
Internal Memory: 50 mb free
Sd : 4,7 Gigabyte of Space
What I tried:
- to move apps from internal memory to sd card
- deinstalled lots of apps to gain even more free space
#
Anyone an idea what I can do w/o flashing it again? It would really help!
Many thanks in advance!

Maybe changing to cm7r2 hboot would solve your problem. If you're on it, then try to repartition your SD card.
Ok that sounds nice. I think I can handle this, the rest will tell me dr. google Many thanks for your reply. I'll report if it worked, but it'll take some time because I won't be able to work on my desire until Tuesday next week.
Thank you!

[Q] D'Inc Memory Full ? Too many apps?

Droid Incredible Specs:
-OVO Community Rom Sense 3.0
-HTC Kernel
-Android 2.3.4
So I keep getting every week that my phones running out of memory space. I wouldnt mind the message but everytime that happens I have to clear all of my apps cache and data so I can be able to use the Internet if not it wont let me.What I dont understand is how?
-Obviously we have 8GB interior memory
-I have an external 4GB Micro SD Card
So my question is, is there anyway I can possibly use the interior memory of my phone (like the DROID X, etc does it) for the apps and cache and all of the sweet stuff. Since I mostly use my SD Card and a few gigs on the interior memory for music.
????
If thats not possible can I somehow override the message so it will stop bothering me and let me use my apps and internet without having to clear caches and data?
Thanks in Advance
I believe the ext4 mod is what you need to resolve this issue. Found here:

The low space warning is common among incredible users. It is due to the /data/data partition filling up because it was made ridiculously small by the manufacture, HTC.
You could move apps to sd either nativley, or with the many apps on the market. Link2sd is a great one in my opinion, and the way to go if you choose to use an app to solve your issue.
Or you could use the ext4_no_data_limit mod. What it does is move the app storage (/data/data) off of its own seperate tiny partition and instead uses the much larger /data partition to store your apps needed files.
The first option does not require root, but you have to know how to partition your sd for use with the app.
The second option does require root, and also that you have a kernel that supports ext4. The mod will install a compatible kernel for you, but you cant switch to a different kernel after flashing this mod unless it also supports ext4.
I would go the way of the second option, as it is more reliable than an app, and also is better because it does not use the slow sdcard or emmc. And the gingertiny kernel it installs has tons of perks, and is great on battery life.
Thank you guys! Tons of help

[Q] Memory card problems

Hey hope somebody can solve this problem
I bought a new 7 GB SD card for my Wildfire not so long ago and saved most of my apps from the phone accross to it. All was fine for a while until my phone alerted me saying that it was low on storage space. On checking the memory card I noticed that I still had well over 6 GB of free space. All the apps that I checked are saved onto the SD card and some don't give an option to be moved to SD card. This is also stopping me from downloading new apps and also all the apps I have wont update as it says there is no space, even though there is plenty.
My wildfire is NOT rooted and has the original HTC installed Android OS (Froyo 2.2.1)
I am planning on rooting the phone and putting on a custom ROM in the future but in the meantime I was wondering if there was a solution to this problem.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks, Wooster
When your deivce say that you are low on storage than it means that you don't have enough internal memory space left!
You cannot move many apps to your sd card because your device is not rooted.
I would recommend you rooting your device to solve that problem because then you can create custom mtd partitions and installing a2sd script (both can be found in development thread).
Thanks for the reply. I will just root the phone then today. Thanks for the help

[Q] Which rom based on these requirements ?

Hello all,
I love my 7105 but I have this HUGE problem with the CM nightlies I am using, the internal storage space is always to the max.
I have a 32g SD card and I can't install ANYTHING on it, I have a ton of games and they eat up all in the internal space
So I'd like a rom which allow me to either install the games or any program I want to the SD like it was possible on the older android versions, why the hell did google kill this great feature, I feel like I have an iphone when i get told it can't install or update because it's full.
Or if this is really not possible is there a possibility to mount some "internal" folder on the external sd card, i have tried folder mount to move real racing which is 3gigs by itself, it tells me all is done but the game is still on the inside card...
Thanks a lot for the help
Mokee ROM does allow saving apps to SD card.. Though I don't know if it works on n7105.. I used it on my n7100
Its a CM based ROM.
