Hello guys,
I am very new to HTC phone and i managed to root my htc desire
using this guide nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire
after root you can see in the picture i have App2sd enabled in pictures but my internal phone memory is still going lower. I have couple of gameloft games installed Ashphat 5, RealFootball, Gangster, heavy gunner and hawx and apps like astro, act1, documents to go.
I tried installing Darktremor A2SD version 2.7 but phone kept on restarting after htc logo so i rooted the phone again with nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire guide.
My phone is on orange contract uk. I don't want to brick this phone.
please guide me to the right direction to install right rom with apps2sd+ or apps2sd so that every thing gets installed on sd card instead of phone memory. I have been reading this forum and Modaco forum for couple of days now. I can't get apps2sd to work properly so i can have loads of phone memory.
I have 16gb Sd card class 2 during apps2sd process i made Goldcard with sd card 4gb which came with the phone.
I don't want to brick my phone. what is the safe method?
Please guide me in right direction so i can enjoy desire more.
Sorry if i asked question which were asked before.
Thanks
I'm facing the exact same problem as yours. All the tests shows that app2sd and app2sd+ is working.
But, the internal memory still decreases. Till now, I have no idea how to solve this.
Apparently it's related to the /data/data/ folder still filling, I don't know much more past this point.
There must be another rom which has app2sd+ where application gets installed in to sd card.
I am not sure about if i should boot to some awesome roms posted here. Will try when someone who was in same situaution as me gives me thumb up to install new rom and apps2sd which works

As has been previously said, the application does get installed to the SD card. However, any "data" in /data/data is left in internal memory.
I have Copilot installed on my Desire. It takes up 18.50mb in total - 11.23mb for the application and 7.27mb for data. If I used Apps2SD, I should regain the 11.23mb, but the 7.27mb data is still in internal memory.
Regards,
Dave
I understand that some data gets installed on internal phone memory. I also read in these forum people are downloading google earth and co pilot big application and they still have over 100mb data left in internal memory. I haven't installed apps2sd+ i only have apps2sd normal when i followed this guide nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire.
I wanted to know is there any other rom which has apps2sd+ which store majority data in sd but not internal rom.
Which rom do you think is better for newbie like me. Modaco customer R3 which has app2sd+ custom build or any other free rom in htc Desire Android Development thread?

hi to everyone.
plz plz if any body can help me m going to become mad installing and uninstalling apps on htc desire due to low memory msg.
what i have done yet.
1.i while putin rooted official htc rom with busybox, did partition of the sd card and updated the partition to ext 2then to ext3 during the process(dont exactly remember the process name) .
2.then had app 2 sd application from market, i moved applications to sdcard but the phone memory still went down.
3.then i changed the setinstalllocation on phone through adb shell to sdcard for full apps installation to sdcard but still the phone memory goes down.
4. i also used the default apps tranfer to sdcard in froyo 2.2 but no change of low memory msg
i have literally uninstalled every new app, one or two has remained and to avoid low phone memory msg i have just kept at 15mb free.
what i do???? i am becoming mad plz help me anyone.
millions of thanks for anyhelp.
should i use rom manager for partitioning the memory card again or gparted live cd.
I don't know if someone bothered to tell you but the apps don't move completely on the sdcard. For example I use the froyo apps2sd because my card went dead 10+ times when partitioned. The google earth app is 22MB and when I "move" it to sdcard it gets to the astonishing 16MB on the main memory.
If you wish, partition the card with rom manager, do a full wipe, then try to insall the apps again and see how it goes. I hope you will be lucky
thanks for the reply freakzone,
actually whatever way i have used, the application does show that the file has moved to sdcard, the app memory itself also changes but overall the phone memory is the same with no change.and low memory msg on top.
you mean partitioning sdcard is risky should i give it a try???
It might work for you, try it, but make sure you make a backup, mine died many times
thanks alot dear, will do it when the emergency in ward gets over..
Here is the scenario. My girlfriend has a HTC Desire, which I found out recently has very limited internal storage when I checked out her phone. We have installed App2SD, and moved every allowable app to her SD card. She has deleted old apps and such, and we have cleaned up a lot of all crap on her phone. I have suggested rooting the phone, as I have done this with my Mesmerize. She is fed up with this phone, and told me last night she wants to buy another phone, and said "I really really wish I could throw this mfer out the fing window! if only I wasn't so dependent on this piece of s! It won't install new apps, and I'm constantly getting messages about being out of memory. I have a SD card that is practically fing empty".
I would like to ease her frustration and save her the money of buying a new phone since she is not eligible for a contract discount with her phone since she has quite a bit of time before renewal. Is there a way to utilize this unused space on her SD card without rooting the phone? Can we partition the SD card to recognize one of the partitions as "internal memory"? Should I just go ahead and try and root this thing for her? Other suggestions?
There's 2 things you can do without root. They will both give a bit more space.
1) upgrade to 2.3 - go to HTCdev.com, kernel source, view downloads. This is an RUU exe to run from a pc and will upgrade to gingerbread. It will wipe the phone though so may want to install mybackup from market. Gingerbread also moves the libs of apps (not all apps have libs) which Froyo did not so when you move to sd, you may claw back a bit more space
2) there is a trick that will change the default install location to sd card. This also allows most apps that previously couldn't be moved to sd, to be moved. Beware, apps that need to run in the background at start up and apps with widgets should not be moved as sd is mounted late at boot and these apps will not work properly.
There is a guide for this in my signature.
Combining these 2 things may help for a while although ultimately root is the way forward. With root, she will never worry about space again. The above is just prolonging the agony
Hope this helps

Advantages to rooting?
Besides being able to move over any app I please on my rooted phone that I have... What would be the other advantages in terms of space for her Desire?
Well we can change partition layouts, use an a2sd script to link /data/app to /sd-ext or even move the entire /data partition to /sd-ext.
Theres also a root memory faq in my signature. Read that too.

I struggled like crazy with this problem before I rooted my phone and got an extra partition to store app data and cashe.
I guess you ask this question because you dont want to root your phone. I remember this thread from the time I used to struggle with this exact problem. Perhaps they have new ways to increase the int.memory these days.
(hope its allowed to post links to other forum)

The best way i've found this is to root your phone and install Cyanogenmod 7.1, and use an app available from the Play Store called S2E. You will need to prep your SD card though - I used a card reader, inserted it into my computer and booted off a Ubuntu Live CD, then use Gparted to make two partitions - one large main fat32 partition for music etc, and a 1GB ext4 partition after the fat32 one for apps. Once you have that, put it back in the phone and you can setup S2E to move entire apps to the SD card I have about 90 apps on there now, works perfect, makes the phone better than new! Hope this helps.

please please tell me more about it .. i am using latest version of miui. can i use S2E ? Miui already required a hidden partition for installation purposes. Do I need to create another on ?
Miui doesn't support S2E I believe as it designed for Cyanogenmod. There is another application called link2sd (I think) which does the same sort of job. I remember finding it ages ago and it not working well with Cyanogenmod though. Cyanogenmod 7.1 seems to be the most stable ROM around at the moment though, just a little slow is my only quarrel. This is from my experience anyway, haven't tried ICS ROMs. Tried Miui for about 10 minutes and didn't like it personally.
Try the ICS BCM 3.1U0
It IS working fabulous.
And it has a built in app called Mounts2SD. It seems that I can use both my internal and the extra partition and the space on my SD-card.
I highly recommend that you format your SD-card and get a 512mb partition. Then its smooth sailing.
Which ROM do you currently use?
Hey hope somebody can solve this problem
I bought a new 7 GB SD card for my Wildfire not so long ago and saved most of my apps from the phone accross to it. All was fine for a while until my phone alerted me saying that it was low on storage space. On checking the memory card I noticed that I still had well over 6 GB of free space. All the apps that I checked are saved onto the SD card and some don't give an option to be moved to SD card. This is also stopping me from downloading new apps and also all the apps I have wont update as it says there is no space, even though there is plenty.
My wildfire is NOT rooted and has the original HTC installed Android OS (Froyo 2.2.1)
I am planning on rooting the phone and putting on a custom ROM in the future but in the meantime I was wondering if there was a solution to this problem.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks, Wooster
When your deivce say that you are low on storage than it means that you don't have enough internal memory space left!
You cannot move many apps to your sd card because your device is not rooted.
I would recommend you rooting your device to solve that problem because then you can create custom mtd partitions and installing a2sd script (both can be found in development thread).
Thanks for the reply. I will just root the phone then today. Thanks for the help

Hi All,
I have a HTC desire w/ Android 4.2. One of the BIG problems with this phone is that the ROM only has 512MB and most of the space is token by the OS and other services.
Also many Apps are installed on the ROM and user cannot move them to the SD card.
Recently I was able to move most of my apps from the phone into the SD card (You just need to download the SDK and execute 2 simple steps having the Phone connected to the PC), Let me know if you need deeper details to do so.
Anyway, this is better but not the best solution since other Apps (native Apps) cannot be moved, and looks like that the other Apps that now I can move to the SD card are not completely moved to the DS card ( some data is kept on the ROM)
Does anyone know how to move the Apps totally into the SD card without rooting the phone?
rooting looks like is very hard, I couldn't find the programs that people use to mention to perform the root!
Thanks!
s-off and rooting is the only guaranteed way to get around memory limits.
it's not that hard, just need to slow down and read a lot. there are guides for everything.
i recommend to start here
And after you s-off with the help of the guide eddiehk mentioned above, follow this guide :

There's no point moving apps to SD because it will fill up anyway.

Best way to gain more space will be use some ROM without any script.
Create ext partition on SD card and then use CronMod INIT2EXT script.
This way you can have even 1GB of internal storage. Nice and clean.
All you have to remember to obtain SD card with good class, best will be 10.

But a rom will have a script already no need to change scripts.
