Hello,
I have done some research in recent months regarding this and cannot find a single eloquent solution - want to have a protective case that does/supports each of the following in one unit:
NFC Support
Extended Battery (which charges OEM default 3100mAh Note 2 battery when needed)
Wireless Charging Support
My understanding is that in order to support NFC / Wireless Charging you need direct contact with the phone, but extended battery cases typically add a distance which would prevent these from functioning... I have seen an S3 case that supports NFC/Extended battery but not all 3 observed below:
http://www.androidcentral.com/powerskin-unveils-their-nfc-enabled-battery-case-samsung-galaxy-s3
I have seen wireless charging cases for Note 2 on eBay (leveraging Palm / Qi technology) which works with Palm Touchstone Dock and NFC will likely work but no case or extended battery....
Need suggestions please and thanks to achieve these 3 ?
Just for context: Currently using the following $15 case which I am willing to scrap - it is pretty good considering price point and free screen protector - used to have a Dell Streak with Commuter and loved it (all except the added weight)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400341431640
Thanks folks,
Jazz
How timely... a seller recently listed this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Extended-Ba...623183?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4d08882a0f
Explicitly says no NFC (even though it appears they have extended the NFC pins from the back cover) - what if I buy this additionally:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-NFC-ante...425?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589aa869b9
Thoughts?

So after ordering two 1900mah spare batteries from ebay I found out that the antenna for the NFC chip is located in the battery. The replacement batteries I ordered do not have the antenna, neither do any of the other batteries I've seen. So I went to the source Samsung.com and they aren't available for the GSM version only the Verizon version batteries were being sold. So where do I find a GSM extended battery? Or any battery with the NFC antenna inside? As for the batteries I ordered? I guess they'd be fine in a jam but to lose features like beam & NFC is unacceptable for the long haul. All feedback is much appreciated.

A seller named shimshop on eBay is selling 2000mah extended batteries that are genuine Samsung, with NFC. There are many threads mentioning this. I bought one as well.

here's the link,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12083246205...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_4968wt_905
ships from South Korea so it might take 1-2 weeks for arrival
Something to consider is switching over to external USB batteries. Not only are internal batteries phone-specific (and obviously have NFC issues with the Galaxy Nexus), but there is an increasing trend towards using polymer batteries that are able to fit in unusual shapes but are not user-replaceable (easily). I've got a pair of APC UPB10s. They work with all four phones my wife and I carry, as well as my Bluetooth headset, a host of other devices, and I've got an adapter that lets me use it on my infant daughter's bouncer and swing. I can also carry it in my pocket without a cover (or fear my keys will short it out), I charge it via a mini-USB port (micro would be better, but I don't need a battery charger), and it has a 10,000mAH capacity compared to a spare battery running on the order of 2000mAH. The only downside is that if I'm out of juice I become tethered to it until I can recharge, but a little pre-planning lets me charge in my pocket and it still beats needing to power off my phone just to swap a battery.
Just something to think about instead of dropping more money on batteries you'll end up throwing away when you upgrade your phone.
I actually have three oem samsung batteries, 2 standard and 1 extended, and 1 third party brand at 1450mAh, i've also ordered, but not yet received yet a powerocks 7800mAh external battery.
i wont even need to change out the extended battery, or even use the external, so I dont know why i have all these.
Hi all,
I've been reading a lot of threads about wireless charging and one of the most frequently asked questions is:
"Does this work with my [insert case here]?".

So I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where everybody can check if their cases are compatible before they actually buy the kit.
The 'set-up' I'll use for the testing will be this one; this backcover and this touchstone.
(Please note that I'm not affiliated with any of those products nor sellers. I'm just a guy that's trying to help his fellow S3-owners out before they buy the kit/mod. Those products also were the cheapest ones I could find on eBay as of 27th november.)
I will divide this into 2 sections; the QI wireless charging and the Touchstone wireless charging (mod).
I've ordered a couple of cases to test out and I will report back later. Also, I'll probably give these cases away afterwards anyways.
In the meantime it would be great if people could add cases that are compatible and if they use the QI or the Touchstone wireless charger.
QI wireless charging compatible cases:
-Otterbox Defender
-Otterbox Commuter
-Otterbox Prefix
-Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid
-(some) TPU/Plastic cases
Touchstone wireless charging compatible cases:
.
I've added a section like that on the stickied qi thread as well [last night]. (in my post that is).
Specifically for the Qi ones. Afaik, members who have the otterbox commuter & defender are able to charge w/ the Qi charger.
I have a hybrid tpu/plastic case that also works with the qi kit.

Alright, thanks for your input. Do you want me to delete the QI piece? So there are no double posts and whatnot.
I don't really care. I think it's fine to have a place to double check.
i just manage to put the Touchstone wireless charger from palm into the galaxy s3 battery cover, ordering some case on amazon, will report back.
Since this thread is about Qi & Wireless charging tech.
Why not link to where we can get a battery back with the capability to wireless charge our phones? just a thought.
I've brain stormed ideas including ways to add a wireless charging station to a car/truck but I have yet to get a wireless/Qi battery door to make it even possible to start doing such experiments.
I had heard Samsung announced a wireless charging kit for the S3 but apparently never released it. (hopefully they show it off this week at CES for release alongside the new Extended battery coming this month)
check my 2nd post in the sticked thread for different options. That was all I was able to gather before it got close due to some members who blatantly abused the thread for their personal gains.

Are the Qi backs compatible with the Nokia wireless pads? I read some threads on here that some users are using them but wasn't sure if that was entirely true and if it worked or not.
they work. It's a qi reciever so any transmitter will work. (i have the yijieneng one and tested it out on the nokia pad and the speaker/charger pad combo at the AT&T store and it charges just fine.

Received my cover a while back. Also ordered 2 touchstones and *about* 20 different types of cases from different locations.
Was on holiday and didn't manage to get home yet but tonight I'll try everything out.

Alright, will add this in the OP.
FYI, I bought this backcover and 2 of these touchstones (note: doesn't come with a cable or anything; just the touchstone).
Also, haven't had a chance to try the combo out -yet. See previous reply.
Yeah, they announced it but haven't released anything yet. Frankly, I don't even know if they'll ever release it. Maybe it was just for the hype of it.
After all, they were 'one of the first' that would incorporate this in a device so widely sold.
I have the Zens white backcover with the Zens charging pad. It works but the cover is too thick for use with my case (which i want to keep) + it's white (Black S3).
I was wondering if anyone has experience with dismantling the tech in the zens cover and 'mounting' it in the standard samsung cover. Any feedback is welcome before i rip it apart
I got this touchstone back;
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=170950767865
The magnet is terrible, it can barely stay on the touchstone without a case on it, and let alone with a case.
I have a touchstone on my dash in my car and even when driving slow in a straight line with no case on, the phone won't stay on the touchstone.
This Sucks because I bought sygic gps and was hoping this could replace my windshield mounted deactivated HTC touch pro 2 with igo8 finally.
Has anyone got one with an acceptable strength magnet?

Hi I am planning on purchasing the Palm TouchStone wireless charging kit for my S3 i747m from eBay
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281051460427...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Does anyone who have the mod or an eBay kit tell me if the magnet attachment is on the TouchStone charger or is it on the Phone battery cover or both?
Also, how fast does it charge with the TouchStone?
Does it overheat after charging for a long time?
Does the TouchStone charger "turn off" or switch to "tinkle charging" after the phone is fully charged?
Any answers to my question would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I would look for a touchstone forum or review site for answers, not here, bro. There is an accessories thread you could possibly get an answer in.
I had seen a YouTube video where someone did this to their s3! Check there!

I see, I will take a gamble and buy it... rated at ~500mAh with coil and charger directly aligned.
With my Otterbox Commuter case, I think the charging should not be affected too much (my guess is around 480mAh-490mAh)
This is because the Touchstone, like the Qi, is using EMR for coil and charger transmission/receiving. The only different is that Qi and Touchstone operate at different frequencies and the coil designs might be slightly different to have either slightly better range or better efficiency.
From my experience with Wacom tablets (Intuos, Bamboo) and Wacom integrated tablets (Galaxy Note 10.1, Note 1/2, Tablet PCs, Cintiqs etc)
The pen can hover even with an overlay sheet or a pane of glass over it.. The hovering range is around 5-7mm depending on how thick the surface cover is.
Hopefully the charger has a built in tinkle charging mode and a auto shut off mode (the phone power management should have this)
Also hopefully it does not overheat the phone when it is charging through my Otterbox Commuter case.

After getting my Nexus 5 and getting spoiled with wireless charging, it was quite troublesome to charge via a usb cable when using my s3 as a secondary phone. So I wanted to get a wireless receiver to go along with the Nexus 5.
Packaging
Not much to talk about here, simple box containing the unit with a small plastic wrap inside. No frills.
Build Quality
The receiving tag is very thin, I can't compare it to others but im guessing they are all comparable. I had no problems putting the back cover on. There wasn't a huge bulge were the tag is. There is a slight bump but you would really have to be trying to feel for it to notice its even there.
Performace
Using my Ravpower Qi Charger it detected the tag instantly. There wasn't any time where I had trouble with getting the S3 to start charging. It didn't get any warmer than usual when charging with a usb cable.
I have a Diztronic case on my S3 and it charged it just fine through the case. I've tried other cases such as the ZooGue case had the same results.
Conclusion
For a mere 10 bucks, its sort of a no brainer for the convenience of wireless charging. I been using it for over 2 weeks and never had a problem with it.
You MUST have a wireless charging pad. Ravpower is offering a 20% discount on the receiving tag when you buy a charging pad with it via amazon. Details is under the "special offers" in the middle of the product page.
I recommend the Ravpower Orbit

The best deal for a wireless charging pad is from Monster Watts, sold through Vivealive (sp). $14.99, is the WiQiQi charging pad. They charge $5 shipping, first class USPS inside the US. The pad works well. Not much to look at though, but good deal for the $$..
I'm using the RavPower reciever. It works well together. What I have found out playing around with the charger, is that if you have a poor connection between the charger & reciever, you will get the on/off cycling. I have my phone in a Seidio Active case with velcro on the back to secure the phone on the Mountek CD slot car mount I use. The extra thickness of the velcro prevents good reception & I get the cycling. If I remove the plastic frame all is good. If I remove just the velcro all is good. The screen will flash once at charge start, turn off, then flash once when battery full, then turn back off. The phone will then remain on the pad in standby with no cycling.
It all works a treat, I can't wait to get my AirDock for the car to add wireless charging there as well.
Ravpower said it'd come back in stock within a week. Also, I don't have experience with any other Qi charging base, just ravpower and they've worked great for me
The zerolemon battery covers the standard pinouts to the QI wireless receiver for wireless charging. Does anyone have a solution, workaround, modification or source for a QI receiver that would work? It is so convenient just to put a phone on a stand and top it off, even with the massive 10,000 mah battery. I am NOT interested in anything that involves soldering anything to my precious phone, or modifying the phone in any way, just the receiver. Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Maybe one of these cheap charging pads can be modified instead of your phone? They dont seem to have one specifically for the note 4 yet on here, but for $6 thats a pricetag you dont have to cringse about when you srtart soldering on it..

Basically you have to extend the contacts from the phone back. You don't need to solder. You can do it with double stick foam tape, masking tape, adhesive copper braid or sheeting and the adapter. My adapter has not arrived yet so I am not sure it will fit between the Zerolemon battery and the case back. I did something similar to get NFC working with my Zerolemon on my Note 2. Once my adapter gets here I will report if I am successful and the fix is safe and dependable.

Don't Modify Anything
Instead of modifying things just use this simple device available on Amazon. Make sure the output matches the requirements of your device before you purchase or it will not work. This is the one I purchased for use with my LG G3 and the ZeroLemon case with the extended battery and it works just fine. You still do not get the NFC capability, but the wireless charging works. But then who actually uses the NFC anyway?
Just search on amazon for micro USB Qi antenna or wireless charging antenna. (the forum won't let me post the link)
This adapter is very easy to install and adds the Wireless Charging / Qi charging back to your phone. Amazon has several versions, just make sure you get the one that has the correct configuration on the plug, either small side up or small side down, and you also need to make sure you get the one with the correct output. For the Lg G3 it is the one with small side down, 5v-1000ma output to make it work properly.

Actually, that is not true. I have installed the exact item I was talking about, and it works perfectly fine. The cover over the port does not fit "air tight" over the port and has plenty of room for the adapter to fit between the cover and the phone. This is why I had suggested the item in the post.

The Note 4 Qi contacts are in 2 places. The upper one, just to the side of the camera, is not covered by the Zerolemon Battery, and does not pose a problem for connecting, but the one next to the battery IS completely covered by the battery itself. Maybe I'm missing something? I don't care about NFC, but would really like the Qi charging feature. If you know of an item that would work, please PM me a link. Thanks!

Not for a Note 4, different contacts (won't work).
I really thought I was in the G3 forum...sorry about that.
They make a qi receiver now that plugs in the charger port of the phone and then flips back to the battery door it's on amazon like 15 bucks. Place case over it to protect receiver and phone any your good to go. I'm sure this will work just fine for ya there a universal qi receiver for tablets and phones with no battery door.
Here is a pic for you.
