why would passports use NFC instead of RFID.

They don't, they do use rfid.

NFC is a small subset of RFID.

NFC uses HF RFID which is in the 15 MHZ range.
I work at a company that develops printers with RFID Read/Write capabilities. I have written the HF tags we use and then read them with my phone using NFC TagInfo.

But you won't be able to read 125 KHz RFID tags with your NFC reader...

You could try to find a NFC-enabled battery for your S2 and / or ask in the S2 forums.
I think s2 dont have nfc

The battery adds the nfc-antenna. Not the nfc-chip. GS2 with nfc chip in 6 countries, as far as I know. Not in Brasil.
At www.nfc-phones.org more info.
What's the model # of your sgs2? For instance I have NFC and the i-9100p does as well. There are some other variants of the i-9100 that are basically p versions. Do you have any RFID or NFC passport etc. That you could try and use it to read some info off it. Obviously it won't give you vital info off a credit card w/NFC or what not but you will pick up some information. And yes you need the NFC battery, first place you should look is on the battery it will say NFC towards the top.

[Q] Is the S3 compatible with NFC speakers

I'm just wondering if the s3 can play music through NFC speakers like the one from Nokia. Thanks
It has an NFC chip... so yes? I don't know much about NFC and when you talk about Nokia... what exactly are you talking about?
Nokia makes NFC speakers check their website

Probably the same Broadcom BCM47511 chipset as the S III.

Quite possibly. Thanks for the info.
It is very fast, and it locks even indoor. Probably a good one, but not as good as the ones you mentioned earlier, garmin gps with those chips cost upto 600$

BCM47511 indeed.
And it works fantastically, locks everywhere and never missed a target to this point.

How do you know? Firmware suggests BCM4752.

NFC on s4 I9500

Samsung has switched nfc chip on s4, when I try to scan Mifare Classic 1K and 4K (S60, S70), my s4 says that nfc tag not supported.
Is this a hardware problem? Should I change my phone to scan Mifare cards? Or a simple hack can enable the reader?

?????????????????????????????
This is indeed a HW problem. There is no fix since is a patent related problem. Mifare cards are unsupported by the broadcom chip.
