ESN Location Help - Sprint LG Optimus G

Can someone help me locate the ESN on the Phone. The back is LG-LS970. I bought it with a clean ESN without the original box and trying to get it activated. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you can turn on the phone, you go into settings, about phone, and then phone identity and you will find the ESN. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick reply. lol I should have known,

Or a quicker way, go to dialpad and type in ##786# then view. but either way works. :good:

I was actually gonna go through the hidden dialer menu thread but didn't feel like going through the work of it lol. No prob!

There's also an extra esn sticker if you remove the two screws and take off the back housing. In case you ever run into the situation where the phone doesn't power on and don't have the box.

Evo 4G

Hey guys I have found a Evo4g at work in pristine condition. Could I sell it or is it no good? I see that these Sprint phones don't take a sim card. So I wasnt sure if it would work unless it was purchased from store? Thanks guys!

I suggest you turn it in to your workplace's lost & found department. An EVO 4G is not a device that people will discard as trash. I'd like to believe someone is looking for it. If it's unlocked, peruse the contact list and make some calls to determine its owner.

You should turn that into someone, a supervisor...ect. SOMEONE is looking for that phone because...its a beautiful device. Mine got stolen [still don't know how] and I moved hell and high water for that thing. That person will really appreciate, and like dougjamal suggested, if unlocked, use the call log, make some calls to find out who's it is.

Seriously? You find someone else's property and you want to SELL it?!?!
Wow. It is amazing how society has fallen...
And let me tell you something about CDMA....
The phone is linked to the account through the ESN number... if he reports it lost/stolen, and you try to activate it, expect trouble.
Calm down... I found it over a week ago... I did turn it in to my supervisor and they called me up there and did paper work because no one claimed it. Alot of people in and out of plant traveling.... No contacts in it... What else to do?

Well...I guess hold onto it, and ask around for another week...
I would recommend leaving it with the supervisor/manager in the department you found it in, because it'd be most likely that person would turn to them to check. Also it keeps you out of liability if "something happened to the phone."
Yea your probably right. I would want my Glacier. Ima call sprint see if they knows who it is...

Lol
1. Pull the battery and find the ESN
2. CALL SPRINT tell them exactly what happened especially the policy for your company waiting a week for it's owner to return.
OPTION 2. CALL SPRINT and ask them if the ESN is clear. If it is your in the clear as well.

From the home screen, press menu > settings > about phone at the bottom > status, and it'll list the device phone number. Tell it to the sprint rep and they should be able to direct you to a person from there, also the MEID number if they ask for it.
I was wondering about this a few months ago when I moved over to Sprint. I signed up with the Shift and decided after it had shipped I didn't like the keyboard so I went to a store and swapped it. The guy accidentally put it in my bag still with my Evo box and I didn't see it until I got home. Being the nice person I am I returned it next business day on the "low", incase he might get in trouble, but I know for a split second I was wondering how much I could craigslist it for.

Sold my incredible. Question on activation.

Do I need to do anything as far as esn # or contacting verizon vefore the buyer activates it?

Just keep a record of the esn # in case something goes wrong. Other than that, you should be fine.

No problem. Happy to help.
Make sure the buyer activates it over a landline phone and not at the Verizon store. I forget the 1800 number but I'm sure you can find it online somewhere... Its the most painless way to activate any phone
You can do it via *228 as well on the phone. Quick and painless.

*228 has always worked for me. I rotate between 3 different Incredibles and an Incredible 2 this way.

Does the Phone needs to be turned on

Hi,
I'm planning to Buy a Sanyo Icognito or Rant off Ebay. I want to use that for flashing my Samsung Galaxy S3.
But my doubt is Do I just need the ESN or MEID or does the phone needs to be turned on?
There are some people who are selling Incognito's with clean ESN's but they do not turn on as the screen is completely broken or some other problems.
But my main doubt here is, if at all the phone needs to be turned on, is there anything that we do with the incognito or the rant or its just for the numbers on the back of the phone?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for Your time and You have a great day ahead.
God Bless You.
A J
Im pretty sure we dont talk about esn (esn on "working phone" to a bad esn phone) swaps on xda, I may be wrong, but just a heads up.

[Q] Is my ESN bad?

Back in January, I made a post asking about my SGS2 and why it wouldn't turn on. I didn't figure it out so I bought a SGS2 with a cracked screen and replaced my mainboard with it's. The eBay post said that the ESN was clean. I brought it to a Sprint Store to try and activate it but they said it doesn't show up in their system.
I don't think this phone was ever flashed. When I started it up, it brought me to a locked homescreen with a low-resolution wallpaper set and the ROM was still stock. I went into recovery and wiped the data. When I finally got into the phone, I found pictures of a some teenage girl who looked like she couldn't tell a Galaxy S from a Nokia.
So none of this makes sense to me. Is there any chance that this phone will activate?
Thanks in advance!
Maybe it was stolen from a shipment? Idk, that's odd that it didn't show up in the system.

The last owner had it activated fine. Her number is still in the phone and under Network it says "Sprint". The person working at the Sprint Store put in a ticket. Is it possible that they will just replace it?

Doubtful. Let us know what happens.
Something just doesn't sound right about that situation. If the phone did have a clean ESN then there would be no problem getting it activated. I have a feeling the ESN came back with a red flag and the Sprint representative didn't want to tell you.

I tried to activate it over the internet and it said that the ESN couldn't be found.
You mention in Op that you swapped mainboards, could that carry over Sprint?
Where you on Sprint?
Could phone be a Virgin or T-Mobile variant.? With Sprint flavor?

Nope, I used a mainboard from an Epic 4G Touch. The DEC and HEX numbers I used were from the replacement mainboard.
You mean "not" your original mb from your Epic that wouldn't start?

I did not use the info from my original Epic that wouldn't start.
So the conflict or confusion the phone is having may be caused by this board.
If not mistaken, all the info Sprint looks for as far as there system id'ing should be coming from mainboard.

Yup. The conflict is coming from this mainboard. My other mainboard doesn't work so this is my only option.

Means your mainboard - while it says SPH-D710 on the back - may not have been in the Sprint ESN pool.
For example, Boost, Virgin, KDDI, etc. all have separate ESN pools and while they say you can port I have had issues with it.
Does the sticker on the board show SPH-D710 still?
And does the MEID on the sticker match what's on your screen?

I'm not sure and I really don't want to disassemble the thing unless I absolutely have to. I really can't afford to accidentally mess it up and, knowing my luck, something will happen. What I can tell you it that the HEX and DEC under Status in the phone's settings match the sticker that's under the battery and that sticker says D710. When I pull down the notification bar, it says that it's connected to Sprint and the old owner's info is still in the phone. Her e-mail was ********@sprintpcs.com.
So basically, if what you're saying is true, Sprint can actually fix this issue?
EDIT: I did pull it apart and check the board. It does say SPH-D710.
They should be able to activate it then...

Is that it? Well in that case Sprint should have no problems clearing it for me.
Nope. If the previous owner owes sprint money or the device was reported stolen, the ESN is bad and as far as I know there is no chance of clearing it.

PLEASE Help Got ripped off be a guy on Craigslist...

I bought a phone of a guy and I manually activated the phone the calls work and data on the spot, I didn't have enough time to check the phone and found it it was rooted...anyways I got everything back to stock sprint rom and reset the counter...now there is no internet. I have a feeling that he probably had it hooked up to boost because the data was working on the old rom. I already tried the wipe carriers setting and clean install and reset the counter...
Does anyone know how to go back from Boost to sprint?
You activated it on sprint the first time and it worked? If so nothong wrong. Please give us the details in your about phone section.

If you activated it and it worked fine rooted it sounds like the phone was ok. Maybe you took a wrong step in flashing back to stock. Try going through hand free activation ##72786# and see if that does anything for you.

This sounds more like a phone issue and not that the guy ripped you off. If the phone cleared and activated correctly and now your having issues that's the risk you take when buying used. I recommend next time you buy on eBay or swappa to have a little protection after buying. Good luck.
