Well, most bad esn's are that way for a reason and a very good reason. I have heard of clearing the esn before but I think it has to actually be done through the carrier. I'm not 100% sure on that but if I remember correctly that was the only way. If you came across this phone by "accident" you might go in to a store with it and see what they say. I've returned phones before and got discounts and credits.

Shhhhh....not supposed to ask that.
That has to be done by someone at Sprint
As some else said why is it bad, is it stolen? If it is I would return it to Sprint so the rightful owner can have their phone.

Thank you all for your responses I got this evo since I lost it and report it lost and few weeks later I found it in my aunts house so now I have two the one I'm using and this one which is reported lost aka bad esn

If you used insurance they may not have reported to sprint. It may not be bad.
In other country carriers work with the bad esn?

well for starters theyre going to take that phone from you if its reported stolen and has insurance, and second once a phone has an esn assigned to thats it your best bet is to try another service provider, usually one of those prepay like cricket will flash phones not sure about the epic though.
Hmm why would you buy a stolen phone? Have sprint contact the owner and give it back to them for what you bought it for.

I dont think this thread is legal at all. Track the owner and get your $40 before you end up getting the charge.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Little known fact, most states have a "receiving stolen property" law with punishment equal to actually committing the theft. Some of those laws have no qualifiers, so whether you know something is stolen or not is not a defense in some states.

Well this is not fake at all...i odin bak to stock n its workin in perfect condition....m not gonna use any mobile network on it....coz for it i have my g2 n a vibrant.....m gonna use it as a multimedia device.....for playin games, music and takin pictures etc.....

Its nice to know if my phone gets stolen there's people that won't even try to find out if they can get sprint to search for the owner. And would rather take a phone somebody paid $400 for and use it as ipod. What comes around goes around
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
+1 too bad the owner didnt have the gps tracker or lookout running while that screen was locked. Id kick your front door in for less than $500 with pleasure and gps tracker would put me in your front yard.

Turn it in to see if its stolen for a fact. If your going to keep the phone and you know its stolen, which im going to assume you know its stolen because you won't call sprint, then your no better than the thief who stole it. I hope you do the right thing.

If its not fake your an idiot, they have your ip , if they wanted to they could report you for receiving stolen property. I hope they do.

Missing Something
You know guys i think the OP is an idiot who is missing something. Hmm i can't put my finger on it. Its on the tip of my tongue. OH YEAH...... ITS A CONSCIENCE!!! We have a lot of Devs here who are good with computers. Someone should track this idiot down and force him to turn the phone into sprint. I mean really come on.
Hey guys I have found a Evo4g at work in pristine condition. Could I sell it or is it no good? I see that these Sprint phones don't take a sim card. So I wasnt sure if it would work unless it was purchased from store? Thanks guys!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I suggest you turn it in to your workplace's lost & found department. An EVO 4G is not a device that people will discard as trash. I'd like to believe someone is looking for it. If it's unlocked, peruse the contact list and make some calls to determine its owner.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
You should turn that into someone, a supervisor...ect. SOMEONE is looking for that phone because...its a beautiful device. Mine got stolen [still don't know how] and I moved hell and high water for that thing. That person will really appreciate, and like dougjamal suggested, if unlocked, use the call log, make some calls to find out who's it is.

Seriously? You find someone else's property and you want to SELL it?!?!
Wow. It is amazing how society has fallen...
And let me tell you something about CDMA....
The phone is linked to the account through the ESN number... if he reports it lost/stolen, and you try to activate it, expect trouble.
Calm down... I found it over a week ago... I did turn it in to my supervisor and they called me up there and did paper work because no one claimed it. Alot of people in and out of plant traveling.... No contacts in it... What else to do?

Well...I guess hold onto it, and ask around for another week...
I would recommend leaving it with the supervisor/manager in the department you found it in, because it'd be most likely that person would turn to them to check. Also it keeps you out of liability if "something happened to the phone."
Yea your probably right. I would want my Glacier. Ima call sprint see if they knows who it is...
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Lol
1. Pull the battery and find the ESN
2. CALL SPRINT tell them exactly what happened especially the policy for your company waiting a week for it's owner to return.
OPTION 2. CALL SPRINT and ask them if the ESN is clear. If it is your in the clear as well.

From the home screen, press menu > settings > about phone at the bottom > status, and it'll list the device phone number. Tell it to the sprint rep and they should be able to direct you to a person from there, also the MEID number if they ask for it.
I was wondering about this a few months ago when I moved over to Sprint. I signed up with the Shift and decided after it had shipped I didn't like the keyboard so I went to a store and swapped it. The guy accidentally put it in my bag still with my Evo box and I didn't see it until I got home. Being the nice person I am I returned it next business day on the "low", incase he might get in trouble, but I know for a split second I was wondering how much I could craigslist it for.
I might be the luckiest person ever. I found a T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Anyways, can I get in trouble for using the phone? Can T-Mobile somehow track the phone and disable it.
Thanks for your answers.
P.S. The phone has no contact store, so I can't really return it to the owner. The only dialed number is a company.
Go to t mobile store and return it. They will use IMEI to find the owner. If the owner report it stolen tmobile will black list the phone and you may not be able to use it anyway.

You're not the luckiest person ever. You're a dishonest person who's trying to keep something that's not theirs. Do what the person above me said and contact T-Mobile.
I'd really like to hear how you "found" it.
Just replace the Sim card and use it. Founder keeper. Loser file insurance claim.

What is wrong with you? Return the damn phone. Don't be a loser, thief, lowlife. Do the right thing. Stealing is stealing. Good grief. Is that how your mom raised you? Sad....

I hope someone steals an expensive item near and dear to you. We clearly understand your lack of morality. Karma is a *****.
The damn entitlement generation on display. Dumb, greedy, lazy, self centered kids. Just what this world needs more of.
I have witnessed this in forum after forum. Thieves that are too stupid to know what they are doing are coming to the Internet begging for us to help them with their heist. Pathetic.
It won't work after black listed so be careful I would try to take it to tmobile store to

I am really surprised at all of the responses from people suggesting yuo should keep the phone or better yet, sell it to them! That is really the worst advice anyone can offer, what the hell are you guys thinking? It's dishonest and kind of sh..tty to suggest that they should keep the phone and hope the owner had insurance... if that's how you live your life, I am hope I don't live nearby you - - Karma my friends - the best thing to do would be to return the phone to any T MOBILE Store - what would you want them to do if it was your phone?
the poor soul who lost his/her galaxy s3 is probably pulling there hair and gouging there eyes out by now... so sad...
If I had found this phone, I would do everything in my power to get it back to its owner. When the owner finally gets reunited with the phone I doubt they would leave you walking empty handed however even if they do at least you know you have done a very amazing deed.
Who knows someday you may lose something and some generous soul will return your lost item to you.
Oh my feelings are hurt by all these strangers judging me online. Why don't you people believe me hehe
I think, I will just keep the phone on for a couple days and hopefully the owner will call
What the hell man, leave the phone in a T-Mobile store.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
so if the phone still has a sim card and it works, just return the phone to tmobile and they will track the number and they could see who it belongs to!
do something great, people will do the same to you.
I agree with everyones (some) responses. I found a iPhone 4S with a pink case. I was able to get ahold of the owner (beautiful girl) and she cried and gave me so many thank yous. She offered $50 but i declined it. If i ever lose my baby (gs3) ...I would hope someone would do the same. Return the phone man..
My insurance was canceled....if I were to lose my phone I'd have to pay full price for a new one. I couldn't afford another Siii.
Return it to Tmo as has been suggested. To do anything less is theft.
If it was my phone, I would activate the mobile security app on the phone and track you down and then the police would arrest you for stealing my phone. But that's just me. By the way, mobile security comes free on most t mobile phones with the correct insurance. I wouldn't risk being labeled as a thief, even if you did somehow "find" it.

Hey guys!
I was flashing roms (been doing it for a long time) but I was on the phone and I was distracted and I accidentally flashed a T-Mo Note 2 rom. No download mode, no recovery and no indicator light when I charge the phone. I was so dumb lol However when I plug it in to my computer there is a sound that the PC makes so my PC does indeed recognize the phone.
So is JTAG mandatory at this stage or do I have any other options?
Thanks yaal!
No other options.
Wow that sucks. The first device I brick accidently was my G2X. I bought a sensation and trying was trying to restore a nandroid backup on the phone and i restore the one from the sensation and not the g2x. Phone wouldnt do nothing.
Go to www.mobiletechvideos.com
They are the best at bringing bricked phones back to life. I bricked my t989 and they had it back to me in 10 days good as new.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yes, it's hard bricked for sure and JTAG is the only option. Sorry.
Or if you have insurance just say that you woke up and phone didn't wanted to do anything. And you changed battery and everything. Lol

Jtag is required, I can't tell you anything about jtagging from ebay, if you trust them and their seller ratings then I guess go ahead. But I'd highly recommend mobiletecgvideos.com if you have the money, high quality professional work. Know this from personal experience.
Sent from my a galaxy far away using xda premium
Just call tmobile and say you don't know what happened. Being its a hard brick they won't know its modified. My sprint s3 hard bricked too for the same reason. There is no way to know what happened to the phone unless they spend the money and time to pull what software is directly on the chip...which is not economical for them . They will have to jtag or swap boards to refurbish it anyway.
Now here's the decision you need to make...I despise tmobile.s refurbished phones. Its like they just spit in them and send them out as repaired. So you can pay for jtag to keep your phone or tmobile swap.
tmobile s3 running wicked. best rom i've ever used
