Is it possible to debrand the One X? The reason i ask is because i am stuck on 3 and they are useless!! (bloatware, updates take forever etc)
Sure, but you will not be able to use sense JB roms. (Provided that you haven't received the JB OTA yet of course.)

You'd have to S-Off and change your CID

That's not entirely true, if you flash a custom rom its practically de-branded. You lose all the bloatware crap from your provider !
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Debranding doesn't mean removing bloatware. It means changing the devices recognition as a carrier branded device which for the most part would mean changing your cid to something like HTC__001 so you can flash generic WWE RUU's or supercid 11111111 which means you can pretty much flash anything official. However this is not possible at present

I'm still learning
Its OK. It's not a term used all that often anymore. To be fair the last time i used it was with my old Nokia n95 where you would change its branding from your carrier to euro1 so you could receive ota updates as soon as they was released

Ah like that, i was assuming he ment flsshing a rom without bloatware and other crap because he mentioned that in the OP, in terms of software he can debrand it by removing everything his carrier has put in....as far as updates he's depending on the updates the devs give on their custom rom but he will be stuck on his carrier on the contract. Do i understand it right like this ?

I'm planning to buy a phone, so 'm between this one and Samsung Galaxy S3, my question is, can the HTC One X be rooted? I've heard that latest versions cannot, please confirm this, thanks!
Yes, it can, you can find a guide here and probably a couple others in the same forum.
Even the latest versions? thank a lot!
I do not know about a "latest version". If you're talking about the latest software update, the unlock procedure is provided by HTC themselves, so it does work and it will work on all future updates and (hopefully) devices. However, I might be missing something if it's about a newer version of the device's hardware, so don't take my word for it...
Let's say it's possible in general terms, thanks! BTW, HTC or S3? I need to make a decision tomorrow :S
I have posted in your other topic. Feel free to PM me if you want to continue the discussion
Not rootable on new phones with 2.20... try to find a retailer with old shelf stock. Any ones shipped before august will have the older firmware.

You're in the same situation as 99% of HOX users. Only unbranded Taiwan and some Elevate members (closed beta test) have it.

You have to have stock rom and lock it again to get the official OTA update. Or you could just install some nice JB custom rom.

Wait and see, if users around you are starting to receive the update and you are not getting it, then you could always re-lock and check for the update, until now we haven't seen an update yet, other then the x.xx.709.x devices or at some elevated users.
Hey guys my s3 killed its self yesterday so I grabbed one of these beauties today and I'm really impressed so far(maybe its the custom ROM).
Now I got the phone off a guy, had it he unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and gave me the phone already running 4.1(dirty 1.8).no back ups to even a rooted stock.
Although I love jelly bean this battery is killing me and I would really like to have at least a stock zip I can flash in emergencies.
I am so unfamiliar with HTC(nexus one was the last one I owned)thank I really don't want to brick it.
OK so my questions are these
I have the rogers version of the Onex is there certain builds I need to look for or are they all just HTC one x?
With HTC is there a fallback like with samsung if things go wrong at least there's always download mode and Odin.
Do I need to have my boot loader unlocked?
Thanks in advance
And sorry for the noobness I just can't kill 2 phones in a week

You can install apks by enabling unknown sources in settings without root.
If you unlock you can install custom roms and root.

You've done a mistake by posting on a HoX forum cos the majority here love their phones. Newly created account flaming? Original? No. Reported? Yes.
for 300$ since i broke my sensation, good price?
its the international version (thank god) but if its international do i need a specific version to flash roms because back in the sensation forums, they were all the same.
If it's carrier branded, it somewhat restricts rom flashing capabilities.
Otherwise the international versions should be all the same regarding ROM flashing.

how do you know if its carrier branded, the guys told me its international and he got it from hong kong
An almost certain way to know it is to download cid getter from market and look at the cid. If the cid is something like tmob__xxx or vodap__xxx then it's branded.
Also branded phones often have special carrier apps and/or boot animation.
I doubt it being branded if it's from hong kong.

Maybe you should also go to bootloader vol down + power button for around 10-15 sec till you get into the bootloader, just so you make sure it is really original HOX , there are rummors about many *fake* hoxes coming from china. Anyway 300$ is a great price for hox.

Best to buy it new the latest builds have all the hardware bugs fixed
If you buy it used it might be one of the earlier batches
Also the latest jelly beam firmware is miles ahead the initial software

Yeah, download cid getter from the playstore and you'll see above the cid of that device, then you could post the cid number in here so we can tell you from where it comes from.
You'd be better off buying any decent android tablet and picking up a dirt cheap Nokia.
Since i got my tablet I hardly ever use apps on my phone.
I'm only using my phone now cos my gf is hogging my nexus. Damn her to hell...

Don't do it. There are more developer friendly phones available and that means that the people with this phone are often so grateful that they don't question the predicament we're in. We have no official working CyanogenMod build at all. In fact we only have a slightly dated Paranoid Android and a fantastic AOSP build (thanks PabX).
This phone is far from liberated and with developers of the mindset that they won't try until kernel sources of which they have no ETA are released, it's not looking like we'll see freedom any time soon. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful to said developers, they've already done much more than I could've, but I feel it's only fair to give you some context as to what you'd be getting in to.
That said, this is the prettiest phone of its generation.
