I've read conflicting things about this. Does this option use more battery or does it conserve it?

So no effect on battery life?
This won't have much affect on almost anything we use due to almost all apps, if not all, already utilize the GPU for rendering so it really won't help us.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
If you have the ability depending on your ROM, just disable HW overlays so you utilize the GPU better by only using it for screen compositing.

Its just not especially Ram Level 2.
Just hit clear memory on the Ram Tab. And kill any unnecessary apps on the active apps tab

I wish I could like the same post multiple times. So many people ask me how my Epic runs so smooth even after days of uptime and constant use. I answer "with good settings, choosing good apps, and otherwise letting Android do what it's built to do and not changing things assuming I know better".
Sent from my SPH-D700 CM9 4.0.4
so r u saying keep letting it run like poo? because what it is doing is pissing off right now
Try Memory Booster lite or the built in task killer. Just don't keep killing system apps that are going to reload anyway because that will drain your battery. Android on the miniscule amount of memory the Epic has, does not always handle memory correctly and some apps are poorly written and do not release memory and resources.

How do you know? What do you do with the device that will use all its power so quickly? Mine is averaging 2 days on a single charge with moderate use; there's no reason why anyone else can't manage that.
Besides, all those so called "battery saver" apps are just placebo's anyway; much like memory saver apps are.
Idk man. I tweet alot. and my 3g sucks battery... 2g isnt an option either....
I know battery savers are fake. I got no such thing like that running.

I feel like the cost of keeping google location on will offset the savings if not surpass it.

You need location access enabled for the app to function. I don't know why... Normally I leave it off as well.
EDIT: Also do you freeze apps? I'm trying to figure out which ones are safe to get rid of.

none on this end. update was just released.
Not sure if this makes a difference but i am running houstonn 4.1.2
thanks for that bit of info, haha let me know if it updates again please
I am also on houston's JB build. It hasn't caused considerable battery life loss, but under BBS, it says that
ConsiaBattery (Battery Guru) has caused partial wakelocks a total of 6062 times for 1 hour and 42 minutes.
My phone has been unplugged for 14 hours 43 minutes. That's quite a bit of wakelock if you ask me
I'm getting better battery life, although I do see it using a bit up itself, it does pay for itself, so-to-speak

I shut down almost anything I'm not going to be using. If I shut down some critical process I'll just reboot the phone. I have yet to find a process that requires that though.
For me, I found that my antivirus program used a lot of battery life so I just run it when I'm using my torrent client or installing a new app.

Looks like you got a wakelock, use better battery stats to see what's causing it. That almost solid blue bar in your 2nd screen shot shows way more awake time than what your screen on time is, awake almost 80% or so of your total uptime

Could Google now location services, such as time to work cards, be causing pipe battery life?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
All that maps stuff will kill your battery, especially if you're inside where gps can't lock fast. I use autostarts to force maps to stay off unless I open them. And yes cards in google now do hit battery pretty hard as well.

Yes indeed.
The Google location services is a big user as well, but to turn it off or prevent it's autostart would hinder Google now, at least I would think so.
Good point on the media server. The battery life was better before this update, and I'm sure Google was still hogging battery life. So media server seems to be the problem... Possible.
Could one possible freeze certain apps to eliminate the drain from the media server?

Mediaserver drains battery fiercely due to a bad image file or video file......it keeps trying to read the file. The only fix that I found was to backup your sd card reformat it then add a folder at a time to make sure it doesnt get stuck scanning.

I've found that it is only the network based locating that causes this particular wakelock madness. Turn off network based location and maps behaves fine... Shame really as Google Now is coded to be broken unless Google knows what network your connected to.

I doubt it's any of my files. It never was a problem on LJC. And even now the problem is random. Comes and goes on different boots. That's why I use autostarts to disable everything unless I open it manually. Then you don't need to turn off the location services they just don't activate til YOU tell them too. They fully function just like normal only they only function when the app is in the foreground

Doing what? Disabling network-based locating, or using autostarts?
Google Now to fully function requires knowledge of what wifi network or cellular network you're connected to to...Shame really, and downright creepy.
