Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Update Gets Stamp Of Approval
http://www.autoomobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s3-android-42-jelly-bean-update-3/10011064/
Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?
Very interesting... I'll be following this thread closely.

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.
I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!
I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.

Also a fellow OG Epic user ... boy I miss that phone (still drooling over that keyboard), but also love my GSIII. Nice to have the OG Epic family reunited here. If Samsung releases a 4.2 update for the GSIII in the near future, I'll take back all the bad things I said about them
hah what are the chances that 4.2 gets released before the s4 marketing train comes rolling through town

X2. Also, you see Samsung promo the crap out of this phone, unlike what they did with the OG Epic, so it seems that they're really behind this one.

That's because this phone is available for all major carriers. The Epic was only for Sprint thus Samsung relied on Sprint to advertise who decided to push the Evo instead.

Having it ship with Éclair and not getting Froyo until half a year later. Then waiting for GB another 8 months...

Read the same info on engadget
Epic is a part of the galaxy S line....but has been treated poorly by sprint and samsung since realease (wasnt really ready for primetime when came out, features striped from phone before release, lengthy time between promised updates). But with all that said still one of the best I've had since G1.

Actually the Epic is one of the better of the US carrier Galaxy S phones. The Epic had the front facing camera working from day one, Verizon's just a few months ago. But as anyone will tell you, the US carriers screwed up the Froyo release and will probably do so with Gingerbread. Europe had Froyo on Galaxy S line at the end of November, US...March. So just because Samsung releases the code, don't hold your breath. Go and grab the ACS leaks. Fully functioning ROM coming soon.
Lol...yes it is.

The OG Epic just got GB not too long ago. I had that on my OG EVO in like, what, April? March? thanks to CM...I have been doing aftermarket updates (lol, more like 'beforemarket') since I got into Android, so, I don't know if they even bother issuing minor point releases like this especially with ICS around the corner.
Why go to all the trouble of making the update and the hassles of dealing with carrier approval and stuff like that when they can skip that process and get right to work delaying ICS for 6 months.
All it adds Is overscroll glow and google wallet that we can't use anyways

Can't wait for the devs to get their phones and see if we can combine all the US forums.
This is excellent news! The development on other phones I had was a bit slow because the source kernel was never posted by the manufacturer. Here Samsung posts the source before everyone even has the phone. This forum is going to explode.

I imagine alot of ppl will be underwhelmed when we do get JB. There's not going to be much visually different, and project butter pushing things to 60fps throughout the ui will help, but this is already a pretty smooth phone. I was seeing some lag issues, but I reflashed my current rom & everything is back to silky smooth. Don't get me wrong, JB is a welcome addition to an already amazing device, but it's not going to be like the jump from gingerbread to ics, so I can be patient. Also, as a couple others have stated, I'm loving TW over AOSP now. I never thought I'd say it, but TW is full of incredible additions to Android that I don't want to lose. I love the beauty of stock Android, but it's a fair trade for all of the functionality.

true that amigo great to see u on another forum
I recently bought a nexus 7 for school, and i'm an avid follower of my devices developement since i had my galaxy s vibrant. It is SOOO nice getting the update withing a week of google releasing it, i have 4.2 and it is PHENOMINAL!!! We the s3 user base are what.. 4 months past 4.1.1 release, then there is 4.1.2, then 4.2... um two versions behind and no firm commitemnt of release. I used cm10 nightlies for months and the bugs were exausting, but i respect the work they do, excellent but there are nevertheless many bugs, hence the long nigtly list of changes. PURE up to DATE android is sublime.
And quad core w/ 2gb RAM... that was just a dream for s3 users.
I will be selling my s3... buying the 16 gb... forever more be up to date and loving the android expereince... and probably come out with a small profit
no haters please there are plenty of those threads, I would like this to be a support thread for those making the jump from s3 to nexus 4. welcome to the fold!
While I'm glad you are happy, I do have to question this kind of mentality.
I love having my S3, but I would of gotten any other new phone. The S3 just had a significant improvement over my Vibrant.
However, going from S3 to Nexus, while some perks.. I don't see the reason for all the hype. You're still talking about a phone just slightly above on par with the S3. All for what? You'll be getting the same updates, just one gets them faster. It runs about the same speed, or at least from what you can tell without an app.
So.. What's the necessity? What's the reason for such rampant rushing to the newest and best if it is just a slight increase?
Seems to be a mindset that should be avoided, not praised.

I'm sorry but its attitude like this that causes buyers remorse. You should spend a few days in the gnex forums before you quickly realize its no different. Once the gnex got jb people were itching for the next thing which was 4.1.2. Then when they got that they are irxhing again for 4.2. Catch my drift. I say get a device you are happy with and satisfied with the version of android. If you worry about updates you're always going to be worrying and not be satisfied. My 2 cents.

You forgot to mention its made by lg which has a piss poor track record for quality, google is already including bumpers with the nexus because the glass back has been very easy to crack. I haven't read 1 review yet saying the n4 is much better than anything else. As for JB updates, between frosty, doc's Sprint port, and Xquzit there are plenty of great choices already.
For me personally JB doesn't have anything in it that I don't have with ics. Ok, I don't have the very latest version of google now but other than that what am I missing?
