[GOT ONE!]Looking for an Epic Touch for Development

EDIT: I have one now! I hope to have a ROM up tonight and whoever wants to test first should head to the Samsung Epic Touch IRC and wait for me to pop in
Hey guys, I'm a dev over in the EVO 3D section and I just wanted to post in here just in case someone decides in a few days that they don't want their Epic Touch. I am looking to buy one if the price is right, kinda would like to keep my EVO 3D but I would consider a trade. I'd love to jump into Samsung development soon. Thanks everyone, enjoy your new phones!

I was tryin to find one on craigslist in ATL to see if someone wanted to do a swap for a 3D plus cash but surprisingly there isnt even ONE on there lol

sacrificed a few bills and bought it outright. I had to have this thing. 3D was a huge let down. I love galaxy phones.
My 3d is up for sale on craigslist and in the marketplace.
Its insane how fast and smooth this thing is viper. seriously. It performs better stock than our heavily modded 3D's. Especially with emulators and cameras. Screen is INSANE
BTW, i need to remove the viper1.3 from my sig. Lol. Loved your work on that puppy.

Maybe because your e3d was so heavily modded, thats why you were having so much problems. My GF got this phone this morning and while its fast it is not light years faster than the e3d. My e3d is rooted running a stock rom and my phone is smooth as butter and has no lag. While playing with my GF phone it did'nt do anything faster than what the e3d did well except for benchmarks that I've seen and I dont have time to be running benchmarks. I dont run emulators so I can comment on those but every game that I've played on my e3d runs fine.

Gotcha. Yeah, I'm still working on RC2 so I would love to get that done before trading the phone if it came down to it. I'd love to bring viperROM to the Epic Touch, but since no one will be starting a "Get viper an Epic Touch fund", it may take me a little bit lol

Wow og epic gets cm9 alpha lol.
While we have better hardware all around and no ics leak or cm9 lol.
Samsung should support the flagship better . But i expect strange things from them as far as support. We wont get ics until gnec is released.

The hardware makes no difference. The Devs on the OG Epic have been working on CM for over a year. Just be patient and we will have a port.
The problem is that people have hounded the devs and they got frustrated.

I didn't read much about it, but im pretty sure its a port and probably wont get an official ICS update. It has nothing to do with Samsung and their top tier phones.

The OG epic devs really worked hard to get to this point ... Im happy for them they really deserve it best community ever !

How the hell...is there another thread about the Epic geting CM9 alpha? You know, it could be because the Epic has been out for a while now, it also could be that the Epic shares strong hardware similarities to the Nexus S which has a fully working ICS. Or...maybe it's because after so many months without CM and MIUI, the Epic owners don't complain about getting updates like the Epic Touch owners. Just my theories...

BTW I am looking for the Devs working on the CM port, I want to help. But they are like ninjas and everyone i ask has no idea who is working on it.

Its because of threads like this our devs leave or don't care/ wanna share. What happen to being nice and appreciating devs!

Some of the more impatient persons here have sent the devs into the shadows while they secretly work on this beast of a phone. I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe team rouge is some how involved... I'm of course just going off of my own gut feeling

Hey guys. Theres is an Awesome ICS rom being worked on (not me). the party involved in its creation is one of my favorite here on xda. I can 100% promise you that it does exist and that this phone is not being forgotten. Just keep on keepin on and pretty soon you will all be complaining about how many ICS roms there are in the Dev section :] .

I'm on an OG Epic running CM9 right now. The Epic devs are getting so far now because we have source. As soon as the devs over here get proper source and time, the sky is the limit. A dev over there has been working hard on switching the file system over to MTD and got it running just a few weeks ago. That is really a time consuming process. Just have patience.

Going to be changing over to either the S3 or EVO 4G LTE (still trying to make up my mind on the phones) My E4GT has been fun as has the community with some great devs from shabby, sb, chris41g, T.C.P. kbizzle and others working on the AOSP roms (I use AOSP dislike touchwiz based roms nothing against the devs they all do great work so much respect)

Wait what about the note 2...or black friday prices for the gs3/evo lte???

At the risk of hijacking your thread, can you tell me what it is about TW roms you don't like? I am not discounting your position but instead just don't see it. LOL I have been using Blu Kuban or Goodness or M'ICS forever and in between I play with CM9, CM10, PA, AOKP etc. To be honest I don't see what the differences are that people talk about.

I've had an upgrade for 5 months and just keep waiting for something truly more impressive.. (granted sgsiii is better and beautiful but not upgrade worthy IMHO)

The GS3, experience wise, will be far too much like our GS2's. Especially running TouchWiz. I need something NEW! Theres an upgrade on my account, so ill be picking up an iPhone 5 tonight. Depending on when Sprint gets the next Nexus, maybe ill sell it for $550 and buy it. Apples resell values are amazing.

Aosp apps, themes, customizability, and launchers are better. There's no bloat either. Pretty much everything...

Yeah I'm leaning on going Note 2 as well. I just put my GS2 on Craigslist with some great extras included I'm sure it will sell fast

I'm trying to leave as well but I can't sell my device because it's the second asurion replacement that I've gotten broken.
I'm hoping the next one I get actually works because I can't have them send me a gnex or anything, they'll only offer the Evo Design.
Yet they say they don't do upgrades or downgrades.

I dislike TouchWiz in general While I gave it a chance the first month of my phone I just really like/want AOSP. I don't see the need for ui skins over what is already a beautiful OS in my eyes. While I'm sure the roms are fine I stay away from TouchWiz based roms period does not matter how good they are it's just not me.

I just picked up a GS3 for $200 in box new and clean esn I'm not worried about the price or black friday sales to be honest.

Cause my S2 is currently acting like a retard (hardware issues) I'm getting it replaced but I needed another phone since there are no in store replacement phones where I'm at right now. Also this was my first phone with Sprint so having a backup was always on my mind. As it is if/when the new Nexus device comes to Sprint I'll drop the cash and pick that up I will be rooting my S3 as it is so makes no difference to me.

I'm going to bump this thread, I just got fed up with Sprints crappy service and paying for slow or no 4G at all. My point for bumping this thread is to give thanks to the very talented devs producing ROM's and keeping the forum active.

Got a Galaxy S3 for christmas and traded my S2 for a 16GB N4. I have met several nice users here and developers. But I'm moved on. Maybe one day ill be back.

As well as I. I however, will continue to browse these forums. And maybe when I pick up a job or someone stops using their S2 and wants to donate it, ill continue kanging the s2. Im still trying to learn kernel work. Anywho, the S3 is amazing im sure you will enjoy it!

I know it but Walmart have them for $98 bucks. Good deal. I like the hardware on the N4 it feels lighter than the S3 actually and screen wider. Its super fast. Its a combination of a low memory rom (vanilla jb) and being a quad-core!

Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.

I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!

I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.

Also a fellow OG Epic user ... boy I miss that phone (still drooling over that keyboard), but also love my GSIII. Nice to have the OG Epic family reunited here. If Samsung releases a 4.2 update for the GSIII in the near future, I'll take back all the bad things I said about them

That's because this phone is available for all major carriers. The Epic was only for Sprint thus Samsung relied on Sprint to advertise who decided to push the Evo instead.

Having it ship with Éclair and not getting Froyo until half a year later. Then waiting for GB another 8 months...

Sammy and the carriers (well atleast Sprint) have really come along way since...To be honest, they surprised me with the JB update. I hope they continue stride with 4.1.2 and/or 4.2 soon

What was the wifi bug? Just curious because I've never run into issues with wifi.
