Read the same info on engadget
Epic is a part of the galaxy S line....but has been treated poorly by sprint and samsung since realease (wasnt really ready for primetime when came out, features striped from phone before release, lengthy time between promised updates). But with all that said still one of the best I've had since G1.

Actually the Epic is one of the better of the US carrier Galaxy S phones. The Epic had the front facing camera working from day one, Verizon's just a few months ago. But as anyone will tell you, the US carriers screwed up the Froyo release and will probably do so with Gingerbread. Europe had Froyo on Galaxy S line at the end of November, US...March. So just because Samsung releases the code, don't hold your breath. Go and grab the ACS leaks. Fully functioning ROM coming soon.

Lol...yes it is.

The OG Epic just got GB not too long ago. I had that on my OG EVO in like, what, April? March? thanks to CM...I have been doing aftermarket updates (lol, more like 'beforemarket') since I got into Android, so, I don't know if they even bother issuing minor point releases like this especially with ICS around the corner.
Why go to all the trouble of making the update and the hassles of dealing with carrier approval and stuff like that when they can skip that process and get right to work delaying ICS for 6 months.
All it adds Is overscroll glow and google wallet that we can't use anyways

The OG Evo got gingerbread in June, right before the release of the 3D.
As for the update. LOS fix, Android OS battery leak fix and just some optimization is my hope.

Don't get too excited, while our phones may have a Exynos CPU we also are the only ones with a CDMA and Wimax radio. That the biggest reason we don't have CM7 yet while all the other SGSII's do, at least in beta form. It may take some time to get the driver situation sorted so I wouldn't expect the E4GT to get ICS in beta form as soon as the others.

Kudos to Bubby on that but just cause he gets it doesnt mean it'll be supported by CM. If they try to merge it and it breaks the existing builds, thats a no go. Slayher worked forever on the tbolt and it never played nice, the build itself is awesome but it couldn't be synced to mainline properly...not even sure its supported yet (although i sold that a couple months ago).

Samsung made a comment last month regarding ICS on the Galaxy SII.
Official update from Samsung and carriers will be 2nd Qtr next year = April - June. Unfortunately this sounds about right. I recall the original EVO 4G didn't get official Gingerbread update until June, six months after it was out.
Plus Samsung said they want the Galaxy S3 out a little earlier, Spring next year. I bet we see Samsung's next gen Galaxy series release first before the SII gets official ICS update.
Sprint Galaxy S2 w/ Calk's 1.5a + ICS 1.6
EDIT: Nevermind.

Telus SGH-T989D ICS update possibly very soon.

Another speculation topic. Yes I know.
But Telus has a reputation of not labeling something as "Coming Soon" until it is right around the corner.
Remember, Telus doesn't add a lot of bloatware to the releases they get from Samsung, so this could be the real deal. We'll see shortly(hopefully).

If we're playing the he said/she said game, then Samsung said the ICS update would come in Q1. Then, T-Mobile said ICS would come as close as possible to Samsung's release. We all know how that has turned out. So I'll believe it when I actually download the official release. Until then, everything is hearsay and should be taken with a grain of salt and a cocktail.
However, that being said, I'm confident that a carrier OTHER than T-Mobile will release official ICS for our SoC variant first.

Haha, this forum is full of impatient folks fixated on instant gratification. ICS will come, so just sit back, relax and wait. Im not jumping into the skyrocket leak because I dont want to have to deal with the issues or trying to make it work 100% on a slightly diff phone.
2.3.6 works just fine for now, and seeing as how the phone will live more of its life in ICSville, its nice to use GB for now, stable and decent batt life. It will be like getting a new phone again when it does roll out! Just wait guys...its just around the corner, remember and cherish these last days of Gingerbread lol

You can either choose to sit and wait for it while trying to make sense of all the rumors or you can simply move on.
I have been waiting patiently for Samsung to at least let us know when they are planning on releasing it but, alas, it has not happened as yet. Thus I have just obtained a Galaxy Nexus and will be getting rid of the 989 tonight. The software fragmentation is killing Google and it's souring me on Android release after release. From Eclair to Froyo to Gingerbread, it has been nothing but a big fiasco with these updates.
This thread is pointless.

All these ICS rumor, fact, fiction,he said ,she said ,whatever you want to call it thread have been taken down for a reason.Cause there pointless and thats my point buddy.
If i remember correctly, April last year is when official Gingerbread was released to Telus devices, So it could possibly be the same time frame for the Ics.
I remember it was His desire hd because i was already using a custom gingerbread rom on my desire.
if it doesn't get released, can we start some war with telus for false advertisement

Why Sprint always gets way fewer roms than ATT and Tmobile?

Why Sprint always gets way fewer roms than ATT and Tmobile?
I had original Epic and Epic Touch on Sprint and we always get fewer roms and last to get updates is there a reason for this?Seams like Tmobile has the most roms and Att is not too far behind it,is it because we are on cdma?If so do Verizon got slow development too,or is it just Sprint?
GSM is easier to develop with, open source. Rest of the world uses GSM. If international version gets development then generally it can be easily ported to a US GSM variant

I know i have both Epics, those CM8/9 are nowhere near daily driver and been in development forever,it will take at least another six months for them to be stable. And latest FF18 ota update that Sprint released today for Epic Touch is a joke and buggy, plus we already had buggy FF18 leak for months now,and that is what they call ota?At least they released ics source for EpicTouch-that is something other carriers did not get, probably did it to make up for such late ics ota.
Sometimes i visit Droid and Evo forums and they have so many unique and different roms and rom ports.Xperia ui,Sense,Acer Breeze ui ports-that's just to name a few.So it cant be because we are on cdma, because Droid's and Evo's are too.

Why don't you look in there dev forum and look for yourself? Not trying to be an asshole but seems like an easy solution. And development version or not it's still lacking official CM9 support at this time.
Also consider less people have sprint as there provider, att and Verizon have more customers.
Also the og Evo was given away ag Google io conference that year, so a bunch of people, many devs, got bit for free.

From what I understand, the Evo 3D had horrible development. The OG Evo had amazing development mostly because it was the Google I/O phone, and it had so much new technology that devs really wanted a crack at developing new features.
The 3d had decent development until they started running off developers with childish antics. As mentioned GSM is worldwide and CDMA is not, Verizon is in limbo as far as I can tell with customers and developers with this locked boot loader crap and developer phone price tag.
From the thread made about Verizon and their locked phone, there are a lot of pissed off people who may jump ship or just send the phone back to Verizon. Most don't have an extra $600 + dollars laying around for a new phone and they won't get what they want for their already used s3. Sprint has some decent developers on board including Myn IMHO.
Maybe the lack of sufficient data speeds? :silly:
Sprint phones require special CDMA versions of winZip.
And there's a supply shortage, so we are all still waiting for our pre-orders to arrive.

Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.
I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!
I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.
