There are THREE rules regarding CyanogenMod that everyone *must* follow:
#1: Never ask for a release date
#2: Never ask for a release date
#3: Never ask for a release date
Failure to comply with the above rules will result in ridicule, castration of your cat, and Cid popping out of your phone to strangle your puppies using rope made out of braided unicorn hair.

[Q] When the CM9 comes to me?

Or miui? Poor english sorry~
The CM9 came to me in a dream last night, it told me not to ask about ETAs
Don't ask the CM team for updates...it'll come when its ready
sent from Mt Olympus
It is funny to see how everyone it bi*ching about Verizon not releasing the Nexus and no-one has a problem with CM number one rule:
"don't ask for ETA"
If you ask me, don't expect anything soon or stable as priority has changed since the last year or so..
Number one priority now is;
-support as many devices as possible.
The old; fast release, fast bug fixes for top popular devices is long gone...
We are still on CM7 nightlies and an already working on CM9.
At least we know for sure that it WILL come to the Galaxy Nexus.

What makes you think he didn't read it? He didn't ask CM for ETA, he asked the entire community. Maybe he thought someone may knew, and the entire community does not have such rule.
Op, CM7 has been in the making for ~8 months and still no final release, CM9 could be about the same time, no one knows..
Cyanogen himself said "see you in January"
so most likely they're hoping for a january release for the CM9 first RC or nightlies.
The time until an actual final version of CM9, probably 3 months easily. Only exception may the GNex and Nexus S. but even then i'd be amazed if it was less than 2 months.

Supposedly 7.2 will be the last official CM7 release until the move full force into CM9.
We've had a stable 7.1 release for a few months now. The CM team has already started the process. I would imaging the Nexus would be the flagship device as it already runs ICS natively. So one would think they would start there and slowly incorporate other devices as they gain support.

Where is the official Cyanogen ROM thread ?

I see a ton of ROM threads based off tweaked versions of CM9, but is there an official straight up official CyanogenMod thread from the main developers themselves for the Galaxy Nexus ?
1. go on dev section
2. search CyanogenMod 9 (only 1 thread have this string in the title)
3. ?????
4. profit
(that the nighlty (experimental) thread, because there is no RC and no stable yet)
Like andQlimax said, there are no release candidates or stable builds compiled by CM team members yet. However if you have a look in the development section there is a dedicated (nightly) thread maintained by Imfloflo who compiles from the CM teams Github as it's updated. It is 100% CM, just compiled by someone that's not a member of the team.

hi,
i am coming from nexus s and really wondering, why there is no official cm9 for galaxy nexus?! a nexus not supported, times are changing...
but however, thanks for the infos regarding the nightlies! as far as i know these, they are not necessarily stable. so my question is, the ones provided, are they for daily use already, or is it a question of testing, as i went through the cm9 nightlies experience so far?

It's because the nex is ICS, not GB. As it's still in nightlies and hasn't had an RC yet, no phones are supported in CM9, officially....
But the nightlies are definitely stable enough: I haven't had any major problems for ... well ... ever.
And here's the link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398495
i see, well, i did already have problems with nightlies, more than once!
of course it's not the big deal, because you simply flash another one...but actually i am too old for this sh*t!
i am going to stay with the aokp milestone 5 for now, seems to be quite a nice one...and stable!
Apparently CM9 is in a code freeze with an RC1 expected within the week.

Whats with some people on this forum?
Anyway humpty123 lots here are ran cm9 but some development moved pretty quickly to CM10 or devs moved to SGS3 around the time we got kernel source. It seems to be stable but there were some battery life issues back in May which is the last time I checked. I ended up running AOKP instead for a bit. Check the latest thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563658
And read, read, read before you flash it. Mistakes = brick on this phone.

I have been running the alpha 6 as my daily driver for over a week now and find it to be great. It has some gps issues that there are many threads on showing how to repair, but i'm too lazy to do anything about. I just installed google now on it and am very happy with it until jb is squared away.

I try not to do phones for friends and family, I end up being tech support for them way too often. Takes time away from my own fun.

Hi every one...new A100 user here.

So Im still waiting on the shipment of a new A100 Ima give my 8 y.o. lil mama for christmas. I need enough time so I could customize it to my liking for her to use. She's pretty techy for her age so I problably will not be limiting so many things on her A100. As of now I own a Samsung Galaxy II (Hercules) rooted with a custom ROM with my own personal theme for it. I also own a 10.1" Toshiba Thrive tablet (great device) also rooted with a custom ROM and with my own personal theme. I pretty much know whats up and I understand that I better read, read, and READ before I ask that universal anoying question "What's the best ROM for my device"....BUT if there is things I need to know about this device that wont be really out there for me to read in plain view then I would appreciate any input from you people. Thx ahead and I look forward to checking out all the goodies

Its pretty much going to give you all the info you need.
If you want something rock solid stable and everything works check out Relix flex reaper ICS ROM (probably ideal for a youngster). Set and forget it. I also recommend linuxsociety's twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery (relix already has his kernel). He implemented some tweaks to help prevent bricking.

I wouldn't call flex rock solid by far.
It as well as any cm9 based ROM have all kinds of app compatability issues. Which i don't find on CM10. Seeing as how it is for a child, they will want games, which is soley what i use my tab for. Streaming video as well.
Save yourself the headache and just flash CM10.

If by original source you mean factory, then its AOSP. CM is as based on AOSP as stock roms. Mods that devs do to CM pulls it further from its AOSP base, and is usually where the bugs come up.
Entirely up to you of course, but I wouldn't discount CM10 so easily, its been rock solid for me since source dropped and I started building my ROMs, your A100 will never feel faster. I'd be hard pressed to say any stock based ROM is more stable then cm10, and they are for sure not as fast or smooth. Just my opinion, but keep an open mind.

By original source based I meant the latest stock released by Acer for the A100. Sorry I might it said it wrong and I could see why "original" should of meant AOSP. Trust me Im gonna check a few out cuz I wanna settle with the one with least bugs no matter how tweaked it is for the fact that Im not going to be the one using it all the time.

I agree cm10 is a very nice ROM. It is what I am using now. I recommended relix due to its out of box reliability. I have some app issues on cm that are not apparent on ics, so it is all user/app dependent. Cm10 does have its bugs, but it is the latest, greatest and quickest, which is what most of us power users want.
I definitely recommend checking them both out.
I'm saying CM10 over any ICS because i am a heavy gamer on my tablet. I figured a child is going to be more interested in games than anything else.
If thats the case, nearly half my games crash on any ICS /CM9 ROM I have tried, even Acer stock.
Using CM10, I would say maybe 3 out of like 40-50 games, don't play.
ICS/CM9...half of these games crash.

So I've been reading alot. I'm really disappointed on what I've read about the A100 in terms of hardware (battery, screen responsiveness, that scary emmc bug). I'm starting to regret I ordered in the first place but it was a good deal. A while back I had read good reviews on the A500 and I thought the A100 would be no different. Oh well I really don't want to turn back now. I'll just hope for the best and hopefully I won't run into any issues that will disappoint my lil one with her Xmas gift.
As for what ROM to install, it boiled down to the two mentioned in this thread. I said before that I prefer ROMs based on the official release for that specific device (Flex Reaper I believe) just cuz I always felt it would be the most stable since it was made for that device itself. Now I keep reading that alot of you prefer CM10 but I'm not sure if it is because IT IS more stable (as in everything in the A100 that suppose to work, WORKS) or its just cuz its Jelly Bean (the newest n greatest thing) and its more customizable than ICS. I prefer for everything that suppose to work...to work. I don't like flashing a new ROMs just cuz its the newest thing out there but lets say "bluetooth" its not working as good as the ROM I had before (YES I'm still on GB on my SGSII cuz the ROM its rock solid and EVERYTHING WORKS!). Now knowing that I'm gonna give this to my 8 year old daughter, I needed to be as stable as possible. If I could get some honest opinion between these two ROMs based on what I said I would be really thankful from you great people. THX ahead!!
If you are worried about the emmc bug. Your best defense is linuxsociety's kernel in the dev section, and his twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery. He has implemented changes that could prevent the bricking. If you bought the tablet new and you get a brick, they will warranty it, just make sure you keep your serial number safe. With these bricks they can't tell or don't care about the flashing ROMs.
Seems everyones given their opinions bub.

[Q] Is there a barebones custom rom for the i8150?

please be patient, im new. i've just flashed a custom rom onto my galaxy w for the first time (cm9 rc1 using cm6) and was wondering if there are any barebones roms (that are based on stock?) available, something similar to the extreme barebones version of this, which i have on my galaxy ace:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806471
i've looked through all the roms listed on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941028
and non of them seem that 'slim'. i saw the thread about slim bean 3.1.0 and have that ready to try next, but wondered if there was anything else.
Thanks!
ps. with cm10, whats the difference between the two kernal types, 2.6 and 3? can i just go for 3?

All our GB roms are based on stock.
After GB Samsung stopped developing for our phone, they said ICS would be too heavy. Arco did a miracle and made the ICS and JB work.
The difference is that kernel 2 Haas a working cam but no project butter(not as smooth as the real JB) and kernel 3 doesn't have a working cam but has a full project butter(smooth and fast as HELL)
You choose between camera and smoothness. And btw kernel 2 is also fast and smooth, but 3 is better and faster.

Slightly off-topic, but we W-ers are very lucky to have Sir Arco68 on our side...
The CusROM scene was stagnating before Sir Arco got his hands dirty and proved beyond any reasonable doubt that ICS (and JB) can run great on our 'underpowered' (that's what non-W-ers say) phone.
When ICS reached a (relatively) stable level (Beta 1, IIRC), the modding community got jumpstarted, and various CusROMs started appearing. When JB was released, the modding community went into overdrive, and now we have a plethora of options.
And the forum is now getting much more active; note the amount of new *daily* questions in the Q&A forum. In fact, the GT-I8150 forum is quite active that 'the powers that be' decided that more moderators are needed.
Now we're back to bickering about which CusROM to use

its really interesting to read all this... i do genuinely feel thankful that all this stuff is out there for our phone (which i like it a lot ...... its also interesting though, as i guess these things move in cycles, like a bell curve or whatever. at some point in the future i will end up getting a new phone and then will be looking on another board instead of this one, and may be that will happen at a time when lots of other people are doing the same thing, and slowly there will be a decline here, just like there is a growth at the moment. and our poor little phone will eventually be obsolete.
discovering all this stuff now, and also being able to compare the experience of flashing roms on my galaxy ace to my w, makes me wonder what the situation is like for something like the s3.. as if i had just waited a little bit, i wouldn't have asked the original question in this thread. i can see the difference in capabilities between the ace and w, and how the kind of rom i was initially wanting for the w, isnt actually what i want. after having slimbean even just for a few days, i wouldnt want to go back to the stock rom i had on it before. i couldnt see that at the beginning though.
im curious to wonder, what made acro do the work he did? there must be a lot of crossover somewhere between the knowledge needed to produce the things for our phone, and other things that you can do once you know that stuff.

discovering all this stuff now, and also being able to compare the experience of flashing roms on my galaxy ace to my w, makes me wonder what the situation is like for something like the s3.. as if i had just waited a little bit, i wouldn't have asked the original question in this thread. i can see the difference in capabilities between the ace and w, and how the kind of rom i was initially wanting for the w, isnt actually what i want. after having slimbean even just for a few days, i wouldnt want to go back to the stock rom i had on it before. i couldnt see that at the beginning though.
im curious to wonder, what made acro do the work he did? there must be a lot of crossover somewhere between the knowledge needed to produce the things for our phone, and other things that you can do once you know that stuff.

I'm too lazy to read all those words but I will answer the last questions.
Couple of things, because he knew he was capable of doing it, because Samsung left us, because no else did it, because he wanted to help its and give us this great gift.

It also helped that ARCO ownes a W (AFAIK)....
From what I've read, he was already an accomplished dev before the W came along....so he would have been able to apply those established skills to the W's framework.....all I can say is thank goodness Arco got a W and not another phone otherwise..........who knows..

i love how fate works....im curious now though, how difficult is it, to do what Acro did? remember i have no knowledge at all of developing, or even what it really is. now that he's done it, is it difficult to see what he did and how he did it? where do you start to learn that kind of thing?

It's going to take time to know how difficult it was, but you could know some stuff by looking at the change log of cm9 ICS.
