Im looking for a Battery Case for my HOX.
I can see all of them, or most of them, got an on/off button. Why?
As an extended battery, I would assume both the case and the phones battery, got a connection that would make them like one battery...
When I buy a case, will I be able to have the case on at all times? And if I then charge via the phones USB port, will be case charge aswell? And the other way?

No I don't think the batteries combine together to create one large battery. A battery case is basically a power source, where your phone recharges from, and the amount of mA is just an indicator of it's capacity. The on/off button is used when you want to recharge, or want to stop recharging. Cases are rechargable.

Then I will be able to always have the case on, and just charge the case. My phone will then, hopefully, most of the time, have full battery.
It will be like always having my phone in the charger. Will that hurt my battery?

I just got the extended battery for my CDMA GNex. How do I make the best use of both my normal and extended battery?
i heard that its not good for your phone to switch between the two batteries so how would i use them both without ruining either one of them?
i dont have a battery charging cradle or anything, so the only way i could charge both phones would be through the phone itself.

I don't see how that would be bad for the phone, or batteries, in any way. It's advised that you don't plug the phone in and switch out the batteries with the phone still on, which might be what you heard.
Just power down the phone when you're going to swap batteries and you're all set.

Hello everyone. I recently got my hands on another battery for the S3. I also now have a charger that can charge the battery directly without having to have it plugged into the phone. So I thought to myself, it'd probably be really great to have the battery with me and swap it when needed. That way I'd essentially be able to double the life. I use my phone a lot and many times I can't find myself near power so batteries are a must.
I currently have the phone in an Otterbox Commuter. I like the protection it offers but it makes swapping batteries a pain. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any accessories or alternatives to a case (or a battery cover) that makes it easily removable. I'm afraid of wearing down the sides to the point that the cover won't fit.
I figure since the device has a removable battery I may as well take advantage of it.
Or, what would be even more great is the use the battery as an external battery pack. Instead of buying those external batteries that plug into the micro USB, is there a way to use the second battery instead?
There is not much you can do.
Get another case that is easier to take off but will give less protection than your otterbox or go caseless, even easier but no protection at all.
With the backcover covering all of the backside even a bumper will have to be taken off to switch batteries.
Using your spare battery as a external energy source is possible in theory, it's a li-ion power source after all but you would need to connect it to a micro usb cable somehow. Some sort of case, maybe a charger specially made for this battery type.
With the spare battery having the same capacity as the one in the phone you'll only be able to partly charge the battery in the phone, if you want to use it to recharge. It'll have to stay connected to use all the power it holds.
It would be easier to buy a ready to go external solution with a higher capacity.
Go for a different case. I have the commuter as well and like the protection but maybe the uag case is easier to take off?

First I would say , decide what you want out of a battery.
Example:
Want 12-14 hrs light use, or 12-14 hrs heavy use. If heavy larger battery will do or a wireless charger to use during day. Need more time or use extended battery 4200-4300 mah good for all day and heavy use. Need over that 6300 mah is about biggest right now.
I use A-case with regular battery, if needed put q-cell extended battery/ tpu case. Have new 6300 mah extended battery on way now for long weekends away from charger. Also have 5000 mah external battery pac that I keep in bag for emergency use.

Imo since u already have the spare battery and the battery charging station, just get a tpu case or the uag is easy too once you find the sweet spot to take it off. I have no issue taking mine off. Unless u need all the protection of the commuter then well ur stuck. The easiest removable drop protection case would be the ballistic sg

On the battery pack cases (ibison, etc) Is there a way to access the battery of the case
first before accessing the HTC battery?
For example if you put in a fully charged HTC one and then turn on the battery pack will it draw
from the battery pack or will it draw directly from the HTC one and then the battery
pack recharges the phone?

They're simply a power source. Instead of a wall to plug into the phone is plugged into the case/pack. I see a lot of them have a switch you press to close the circuit and start charging the phone. To do what you are suggesting I would assume a kernel edit or hard mod would be required. I may be wrong though.

It would take some kernel mod to draw from external only. It's doable in the Linux roots, I just have never seen anyone do such a thing on any of the devices I've owned. I'd also be a little leery about whether or not an external case could reliably provide enough voltage to run the phone, but if it works, it would be pretty neat.
You'd also face the problem of the kernel being unable to detect the external battery's capacity and switch over to internal power + charging, so you'd best have a watchful eye!

If this can be done the internal battery will virtually remain brand new. That would be a great accomplishment.

No, not really. Unless you could fully d/c the battery, you'd still get at least some wear, and leaving a battery idle doesn't preserve it in the slightest. If you want to preserve a battery, drop the charge to 40% and leave it in a cool, dry refrigerator. Your battery is still going to suffer all of the temperature-related wear and tear which is what helps send most batteries to the grave.

My concern is internal battery life span. I think that power case works just like you would keep your phone connected to the charger all the time. When battery drop by 1% it will be charged and all that again and again. Can it be controlled by app that for example phone won't start charging battery before will drop to 30% and then will stop charging at let's say 95%. Can it be done on unmodified system or it would need custom kernel to support that?

I have a no brand case but it looks exactly like the one in the link. If you want to charge the phone from case you have to press a back button on case. It will not charge if you don't press that button
Hi guys.. I'm thinking about buying this battery case for the mate 20X. It says it has a battery capacity of 6000 mah. Does this mean that this capacity is separate from the 5000 mah the phone has, so that I get a combined 11000 mah?

Just some helpful advice from a recovered extended battery case addict. In the early days when phones didn't have quick charge and we're about 25-50% smaller, I always bought my phones based on the support of manufacturers making extended battery cases for it. As the phone market matured, batteries became bigger and locked in, I noticed that my power consumption was less likely to hit the max of the stock battery. The weights of the phones increased as well and I noticed a chronic pain on my pinky. This combined with the fact that the extended battery cases didn't have quick charge, rapid charge, super charge, it whatever "special" charge came with the phone, as well as a key missing feature of charge passthrough, caused me to drop the extended battery madness. I expect you to come to this conclusion on your own, because like me, you won't be convinced of extended battery cases being a bad joke until you see it for yourself. Make sure there is a good return policy.

Appreciate the reply. As far as quick charge goes that will damage the battery in the case the same way it can damage the battery in the phone. This is why I have a slow charger to charge my phone healthily instead of risking permanently frying the phone's battery which will shorten its life. I'm no fan of quick charge.
Regarding pass-through the seller confirms that the power case is equipped with heat, overpower and temp protections. What do you think?
Just to be sure the power case doesnt degrade the phone battery do you think its best to charge the phone case and phone separately and not connected together?

I would never spend money on anything like that since I can get 2 days on a single charge on my 20X. All the new phones now use LiPo batteries (the same cell type used in Tesla cars) and have no problems with quick charging and don't exhibit memory as it's predecessor battery types used to have.

I'm not talking about quick charging. I love slow charging.
Anyway I get 3 days from my 20X. The problem is when I have 30% left it starts to drain like crazy. Thats the reason for wanting the battery case.
Did you get the battery case in the end? They are available very cheaply now from Aliexpress. I don't really have a problem with battery life but am thinking it might be a nice gadget to have
