Dropped from like a foot of the ground with a Samsung flip cover. Landed face down chipped screen in 2 corners and got a crack across the screen.
How do I get it fixed? Or can I do it myself? Anyone have any experience or suggestions? Thanks.
Send it to Samsung. Gonna be out as much as the phone cost you though. Get a good case to keep it from happening again

the "glass" is replacable seperately.. same as on the galaxy s3. it isnt worth it though in my opinion. it doesnt respond exactly the same. the replacements dont come with the contrast enhancing adhesive that is installed in the OE oled displays. and you can get specs of dust under it during the install, or potentially ruin it entirely. it's just easier to let sammy replace it professionaly with OE parts and have it done correctly.
believe me, i tried.
Rub some bacon on it?

There is 3m doublesidded clear adhisive u can get for it ......no dust.....I thibk u can also get the digitizer and glass together online,, more money though

Damn phone slipped out my hand that the glass over the screen shattered.
Yeah I want to know that tonly few companies make amoled displays so they only might be availanle only in bulk but im not sure.
Because amoled is fused to the glass, it is even more difficult to replace. Keeps away the dust that LCD is plagued by though.

There is a couple on Ebay....
I bought my phone used with some chipping, some scratches and even a mini dent on the chrome bezel, I've searched and seen this done on the uk version but I'm more interested in the T-Mobile American version as the bezel is attached to the frame that the LCD is glued to. I can get a replacement bezel with the mid frame and battery cover for $28 but I don't want to risk breaking the LCD when removing it from the glue.

There was somebody (i believe in the themes and apps section) who did and said it made the phone look more sleek. I've been considering doing it with a fine grit paper. As long as you take your time, you should be fine.

It might be in the accessories section too. Pretty sure i saw it. It's just blacked underneath...

Well I suppose I'll look again. What do you mean just underneath? I'm looking to get rid of the scratches on the chrome rim of the phone
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Someone did in the accessories section..he posted pics of it sanded down and it was just a black plastic finish underneath. I'm contemplating on doing the same and then painting it. Tried looking for it but I cant find it..its probably about 2 months ago. Replied in someone else's thread so not an easy find

yeah like the others have said. some guy posted it in the accessories section.. its not its own thread.. he just randomly posted it with several pictures... its just black plastic if you ever decided to sand it down. It actually looks pretty slick if your phone is black... like a matted black look. I think it'll look retarded if it was done on the white one..
Never thought about sanding the whole thing down and panting it another color.. fancy idea.
Yeah I'd just like to see it.

So today I went to the gym and decided to sprint in the back on the gym to get warmed up. Put my Note 2 in my wasteband on my shorts and underwear, hoping it would stay snug. It didnt. It slid out and hit the asphalt while I was running at my fastest. Bounced multiple times and flew apart (battery as well as battery door). I picked it up fearing the worst, but to my suprise it had some good scratches on the battery door and some scrapes on the bumpers. Cracked screen, you say? Nay! Not even a scratch! Picked it up off the ground face down too! Look at my pictures below. I don't know how you guys are dropping your phones and smashing the screens but mine just survived a serious beating.

I've had this Same experience.. Mine busted apart lol. I was pretty impressed
I was completely surprised that my screen was untouched. Gashes in the back don't bother me, I've got an aluminum battery door coming in the mail today. Also ordered a massive case. The Note 2 is so sexy without a case, its a shame that we have to cover up these gorgeous phones to protect them.

Glad it made it safely. I have a cruzerlite on mine but sprung for Best Buys protection. Supposedly covers anything but lost or stolen. So plan to go naked
that is good news. I guess my cracked digitizer yesterday, from falling off the recliner arm against the vinyl frame of the sliding glass door, onto carpet was a fluke. I hope it doesn't happen again. I had a friggen Otterbox defender case on it as well.
Total drop was about 2 and a half feet at an angle. It didn't help that I attempted to grab the phone and ended up knocking it with my hand so that it hit the frame quicker.

That is really weird. Seems like Otterbox would have some kind of reimbursement plan seeing as their case didn't work. I know they have a lifetime warrantee on them. I just bought a case off ebay. $12 and it looks just as beastly as a defender, but cooler IMO.

I tried multiquote but it wouldn't open for some reason. Probably one of my settings.
Yes, it is extremely weird and it would be great if Otterbox had some type of plan where you would get some money back, but I easily see how the system would get abused.
The bad thing about the Defender case, is that the lip around the face of the phone is comprised of the hard inner shell. The outer shell is mated to it but it shock absorbing as opposed to the hard plastic lip. This hard plastic lip sits directly on the glass face of the phone. So all impacts to the face of the phone that hit the defender case, have most of their energy transferred right to the glass. I would bet a paycheck that if this hard plastic lip was not there and there was just the hard rubber or a better design where the hard plastic was not contacting the face of the phone, that my phone would have been fine.
It is also possible, as I have mentioned in other posts, that the Defender case flexes a great deal and that the impact, that was not absorbed by the softer rubber material, was transfered through the inner case. This may have caused too much flexing along with the impact and caused the multiple cracks.
Glad to see that it worked out for the OP.
I am not looking forward to the day when I drop mine. Note the "when" and not "if". I've pretty much dropped every phone I've ever owned (never had any major damage though as far as screens cracking or whatnot), chalk it up to clumsiness or sheer bad luck.
I'm being ridiculously careful with it until the case I ordered arrives, but it's pretty much heart attack city anytime this thing decides to slip around even a few millimetres in my hand.

Sounds like a pretty serious design flaw lol. Sucks too because that case costs a hefty $50. Me thinks ebay might be the way to go in the future. I haven't looked at how much replacement screens are but I'm sure they are well upwards of $200. I know one for my OG Note was $250 and this one is much more sophisticated.

Just a warning guys... The screen can take a hell of a beating, but that doesn't mean the LCD can... Ill post a picture later.
Are LCD's really in the hundreds? Is it worth it?
On e4gt? There some what tough but fragile as an egg compared to the Sgs 1 4.0 display screen. Plus this one scratches easy. My sgs 1 took a year of drop test for real. I tried to break it and could not. I tried this phone from 2 ft and shattered. Was going in for Insurance for water damage so had to try

I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I didn't know whether or not it belonged in the Q&A section since it's not a problem with the actual phone.
Anyways, I have dropped my old electronics countless times and never suffered the consequence of having a cracked screen due to either having a case on or just complete luck. I dropped my GS4 yesterday (on my birthday too ) and of course...the screen ended up cracking. I had been waiting for my case to arrive and of course, it arrived when I got home later that day. The reason I'm posting this is because I would like to ask for help such as your opinions on what to do or how I could fix it in the cheapest way possible. I am a student in high school without a job so coming up with around $200-300 is something that would take months to do. Can any of you guys help or give me advice on what to do because I've never dealt with repairing or dealing with a cracked screen before. Thanks in advance!

Just do a claim in which case, pay the $100 deductible, get it fixed right while maintaining warranty coverage, no sense trying to fix it yourself, messing it up and loosing any coverage you currently have just to save ~50 bucks on a $650 phone ....

I went to TMobile yesterday and they directed me towards Asurion and I filed a claim which they should reply to by today. However, I did some poking around on the Asurion website and saw that the deductible was $175 for the GS4 which is pretty steep for me.
not bad considering the first google search I found for a screen (granted its for the international version) is ~270, http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-sam...nd-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
and $350 at iFixandrepair
http://www.ifixandrepair.com/sam-galaxy-s4-lcdscreen
Sorry but your cheapest route is to take the deductible hit. Yes you can possibly "defuse" the digitizer/glass/screen, but chances are it will break....take it to a local store and get a quote for the fixing, and take the best option. I would say save slightly and get it fixed via insurance, as it will likely be the cheapest, and best for the end result (IE you dont break warranty / insurance coverage by getting the repair done yourself). Just my 2 cents.
