Any unlocking cell shop in Florida can carry the devices parts. Might have to wait a few days but by then it would be cheaper than getting a new phone

I don't have insurance for t-mobile, I use simple, so I have to buy the part straight out I guess
Ahh that sucks. But my opinion, I rather buy another one just to have . Extra battery which is how I got mines. Paid 100$ and it came with a battery charger and 2 batteries included. Someone was hurting for money I guess. I didnt inspect it or nothing. Had water damage. Sent it in to tmo and the sent me another one for an extra 20$. Can't beat it for the price I paid

Thanks. This is good to know in the future. Im past my 14 days already so I wasnt able to add Tmo insurance but $177 isnt bad at all. But I assume you have to send it in and I wonder how long that would take. That's the only drawback but still better non the less. Did you call samsung support or did you chat with them? Also Tmo will cover software issues for 1 year for free but you just have to pay $20 to get a replacement, and after you get a replacement they will ask if you want to add insurance. Once you have tmo insurance then its $5 for software issues and $130 for physical damage as that goes through Asurion and not Tmobile technically. So thats another route if you didnt get it within 14 days of your contract. I Know its too late now but once your phone is fixed you have that option still.
I'm thinking about going through Squaretrade insurance too but you also have to send them the phone for repair. Its avg about $5 a month with their 2 yr insurance plan. But I dont recall if there's a certain period that you have to apply. It might be 30 days within your contract. I have to double check.
Here's the one for squaretrade with $99 deductible

Not at all if it is just screen damage which u say it is then they are literally going to unscrew the screws on back take the board out replace screen put motherboard back in and that's that. I'll tell u what let them do it. There is a little more involved to it then that won't get into detail but I did two friends screens and the one kid wanted the black face or the dark face(screen that's on pebble blue) on his white gs3 and it was a *****. Taking the board camera, connectors all that was easy....its the glue that holds the screen to the actual housing that is hard to get off. And u have to get it all off for screen to sit in there nicely anyways he liked the job I did it actually looked cool minus the white home button. Anyways good luck send it to Samsung now but after go with ensquared or squaretrade

Hi,
What about buying the screen from ebay and trying to replace it yourself? It might be a little complicated and hard without having proper skills but you can try it out.
I have owned an iphone 3gs in a past and once when I cracked the screen I replaced it myself saving lots of money. It worked just fine. You can give it a try but I'm not really sure how hard it is on samsung.
And yeah, it was a digitized, and a display itself

yeahh I sent it in for repair and they said they could not repair it....then on top of that my note2 got stolen Friday. I'm using a old windows phone 7....its killing me
I had mine apart last night to do the USB port repair (replace the whole ribbon) and looked at the sim slot while it was apart. I am no expert, but I have replaced surface mount chips before that are much more difficult then what this repair would be. A fine tip temp control iron, some desolder braid (along with solder and flux), and it is pretty straight forward. Wouldn't need to take it apart any further then just removing the back.
If you end up wanting to get rid of it for savagehax offer, I would be interested in yours, that being it would be missing a battery back and have a defective sim slot.
Speaking of which, are you sure the sim slot is the defective piece? It'd be worth it to put a meter on there and measure continuity between the pins and solder points.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
I had a sim adapter in it and when I pulled it out I guess it rip some pins.....cell phone repair pros told me they could repair it they put in a new sim reader and all...

Be careful about buying a cheaper display from some 3rd party store that ships out of Hong Kong. It might end up being a low end LCD instead of the replacement AMOLED. I bought mine off ebay for 220 shipped. I'd rather pay a little more than end up with a crappy display. At that point minas well just throw it away.

The phone retails for $600 (for the 16gb version). The display is 50% of the phone. $240 is not highway robbery if you break it down. I'll admit, as I've had to replace mine, that if FEELS like highway robbery but your buying one of the more essential parts of the Phone. You can do without the wifi, the bluetooth, headphone jack, speaker phone, maybe a button or 2. But you HAVE to have the high end display.

Yes I understand that most parts are made in China. I simply mean that parts from China can also be the other end of the spectrum, low end. You have to be careful who you buy from. Make sure it's a reputable company selling genuin parts. Buying through Ebay give's buyers protection from fake products. Buying from Tmart does not.
And, yes, there are low end crap replacement screens out there. When my son decided to "test" his 3GS otterbox with his other friend and the display quit working once the phone hit the ground I opted for a cheap replacement. He really didn't care as long as it still worked, plus he's lucky I fixed it at all and didn't give him my 7 year old moto flip as punishment. That display came from a Hong-Kong retailer, but I knew what I was buying from them.

I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I didn't know whether or not it belonged in the Q&A section since it's not a problem with the actual phone.
Anyways, I have dropped my old electronics countless times and never suffered the consequence of having a cracked screen due to either having a case on or just complete luck. I dropped my GS4 yesterday (on my birthday too ) and of course...the screen ended up cracking. I had been waiting for my case to arrive and of course, it arrived when I got home later that day. The reason I'm posting this is because I would like to ask for help such as your opinions on what to do or how I could fix it in the cheapest way possible. I am a student in high school without a job so coming up with around $200-300 is something that would take months to do. Can any of you guys help or give me advice on what to do because I've never dealt with repairing or dealing with a cracked screen before. Thanks in advance!

Just do a claim in which case, pay the $100 deductible, get it fixed right while maintaining warranty coverage, no sense trying to fix it yourself, messing it up and loosing any coverage you currently have just to save ~50 bucks on a $650 phone ....

I went to TMobile yesterday and they directed me towards Asurion and I filed a claim which they should reply to by today. However, I did some poking around on the Asurion website and saw that the deductible was $175 for the GS4 which is pretty steep for me.
not bad considering the first google search I found for a screen (granted its for the international version) is ~270, http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-sam...nd-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
and $350 at iFixandrepair
http://www.ifixandrepair.com/sam-galaxy-s4-lcdscreen
Sorry but your cheapest route is to take the deductible hit. Yes you can possibly "defuse" the digitizer/glass/screen, but chances are it will break....take it to a local store and get a quote for the fixing, and take the best option. I would say save slightly and get it fixed via insurance, as it will likely be the cheapest, and best for the end result (IE you dont break warranty / insurance coverage by getting the repair done yourself). Just my 2 cents.
