It only has six points of contact and would be fairly easy for someone skilled with a soldering iron. If it isn't your forte, you could probably find a local electronics shop that would do it for you for a reasonable fee.
Hey man..I read your post and I have my old nexus..it is missing the battery door and the back is scratched but screen is 10 out of 10.. I would post it to sell but I do not believe I am able to sell on here I would let it go for like 50 bucks or 40 even..

It is relatively hard if you don't know what you are doing. Need an disassembly guide. A hot air gun and a soldering station.

yeahh I sent it in for repair and they said they could not repair it....then on top of that my note2 got stolen Friday. I'm using a old windows phone 7....its killing me
I had mine apart last night to do the USB port repair (replace the whole ribbon) and looked at the sim slot while it was apart. I am no expert, but I have replaced surface mount chips before that are much more difficult then what this repair would be. A fine tip temp control iron, some desolder braid (along with solder and flux), and it is pretty straight forward. Wouldn't need to take it apart any further then just removing the back.
If you end up wanting to get rid of it for savagehax offer, I would be interested in yours, that being it would be missing a battery back and have a defective sim slot.
Speaking of which, are you sure the sim slot is the defective piece? It'd be worth it to put a meter on there and measure continuity between the pins and solder points.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
I had a sim adapter in it and when I pulled it out I guess it rip some pins.....cell phone repair pros told me they could repair it they put in a new sim reader and all...

Seller said they dropped it in water. It holds a charge but will turn off shortly after being powered on. They're asking $100. Worth it or should I pass? Sounds like a hardware problem so I don't think its fixable without dishing out a lot of money.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think you answered your own question. I'd say its definitely not worth it considering a lot of factors like how long it was in the water, what they did after they pulled it out, etc etc...
Replacing the logic board is cheaper than replacing the screen, so as long as the screen isn't cracked it shouldn't be that bad. However, you're not going to be able to easily find a replacement logic board yet. If it is well and truly broken, your best bet is to keep the screen and housing, then buy another Nexus that has a broken screen and frankenstein it together.

Its like buying a used car with some issues and spending a lot of money to fix it's known bad issues then after sometime new bad issues will come up and you'll keep fixing it and so on that if u bought a new one wit would have been cheaper! Electronics are even worst!

Cars are different, though. Any issue with an engine that completely prevents it from running is not going to be traceable to any one particular part, especially if all of the parts are really old.
These phones literally have four major components that are easily replaceable, and only two of these components are going to keep the phone from being operational. If you replace both the logic board and the screen, it's practically a new phone.

I personally have taken my phone under water using a generic water proof bag. They were 3 for $10 USD. the only problem I had was if the water put pressure on the screen it would go crazy..... I just added more air to it and held it so I had to push through the air to select what I want. Ie picture or video

Well but the skin is definetely not made for a daily use i reckon, I mean to make sure it is 100% waterproof you always have to use a new strip of sealing tape after charging, right?
Would be good to have a modified battery cover for contactless charging. I´m starting to work on a diving base for the next 2 months, and would be good to have something covering my GNx from water.

This is true. The lifeproof case cost over a million USD to develop, and they lucked out that the iPhone 4s was compatible. Not nearly enough people own enough Gnex to make it profitable, plus the GSM would need a completely different case from the LTE. FInally, my own experience with the case sucked. You can only take it off/on 50x before it breaks (not waterproof) and it destroys sensitivity. It's something you only want when theres water around, but you can only take it off/on 50x which sucks. Also, you have to test it every time before you submerge it. The waterproof bags are way better IMO.
I bought a sexy back battery cover for my s3 and I took it out of the case to try to be flashy.. I got up while my phone was on my lap and bam right into the st bashing the corner just a lil scratches and one crack horizontally across the phone. I live in Miami hoping to get it fixed asap.. anybody know how much or where I could do this? Im so bummed now... any help is appreciated.

Thanks. This is good to know in the future. Im past my 14 days already so I wasnt able to add Tmo insurance but $177 isnt bad at all. But I assume you have to send it in and I wonder how long that would take. That's the only drawback but still better non the less. Did you call samsung support or did you chat with them? Also Tmo will cover software issues for 1 year for free but you just have to pay $20 to get a replacement, and after you get a replacement they will ask if you want to add insurance. Once you have tmo insurance then its $5 for software issues and $130 for physical damage as that goes through Asurion and not Tmobile technically. So thats another route if you didnt get it within 14 days of your contract. I Know its too late now but once your phone is fixed you have that option still.
I'm thinking about going through Squaretrade insurance too but you also have to send them the phone for repair. Its avg about $5 a month with their 2 yr insurance plan. But I dont recall if there's a certain period that you have to apply. It might be 30 days within your contract. I have to double check.
Here's the one for squaretrade with $99 deductible

Not at all if it is just screen damage which u say it is then they are literally going to unscrew the screws on back take the board out replace screen put motherboard back in and that's that. I'll tell u what let them do it. There is a little more involved to it then that won't get into detail but I did two friends screens and the one kid wanted the black face or the dark face(screen that's on pebble blue) on his white gs3 and it was a *****. Taking the board camera, connectors all that was easy....its the glue that holds the screen to the actual housing that is hard to get off. And u have to get it all off for screen to sit in there nicely anyways he liked the job I did it actually looked cool minus the white home button. Anyways good luck send it to Samsung now but after go with ensquared or squaretrade

Hi,
What about buying the screen from ebay and trying to replace it yourself? It might be a little complicated and hard without having proper skills but you can try it out.
I have owned an iphone 3gs in a past and once when I cracked the screen I replaced it myself saving lots of money. It worked just fine. You can give it a try but I'm not really sure how hard it is on samsung.
And yeah, it was a digitized, and a display itself
