Signal issues with new Gs III. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have just recently upgraded from the old EVO 4g I had for 2 years but I rooted and flashed roms most of time I had it. My old EVO had got a better signal after trying a few radios but my new phone is worse and I figured it would be better. Anyway are there any tips/tricks that I can do to improve signal on my Sprint Galaxy SIII other than rooting and trying different radios? I am not really ready to root this device yet because I am not sure if I want it yet and have 30 days to make that choice. Thanks!

Try updating your prl in settings for some people that helps out a lot also make sure your phone is on jelly bean the new radio on the stock ota helped me out a lot

Yeah I was on the update before I got out of the parking lot and I also have updated prl several times. Oh well looks like I'll just have to root and try some radios or just live with it because I've paid for 4g/LTE for 3 years and never had it in my area but Sprint LTE is suppose to be coming to Savannah area in Feb.! Fingers crossed! Thanks for the reply!

Before rooting I would try going to the link below to get a roaming prl to roam on Verizon it helps many users and its relatively easy and doesn't require a root tell me how it goes

Call Sprint complain about signal, and get them to send you an Airave for free.

Anyway to boost the signal reception on the gs2?

I signed up with tmobile about two weeks ago and have had no complaints until now. All of a sudden I am having trouble keeping a constant data connection at my place of business. Idk if its my phone or a problem with the local tower but the signal is all over the place while browsing the web. It looks like a strong signal until I go to use data then it drops to nothing. Last week this wasn't a problem at all.
Any tweeks or hardware I can buy to help remedy this?
My phone is completely stock and I am on the 30/month pre paid plan if that makes a difference.
Are there any better radios out that can be installed maybe?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Is WIFI available at your place of business? If you are completely stock I'm assuming you are on GB. If that is the case use the WIFI calling feature offered by T-Mobile. If WIfI is not availiable you can try flashing the Blaze modem it improved my data speeds.

Unfortunately WiFi is not available. I will look onto flashing the blaze modem. Thanks!
If ICS is indeed right around the corner will it come with different modems?

Well hopefully it is right around the corner and we can have the current crop of ICS roms rebased off the T-Mobile S2 stock build and not from our distant cousin AT&T SkyRocket's build. But to be honest I’m not sure if it will or will not but I’m assuming it will as the current set of radios needed to be tweaked to work on current ICS roms. Any who if you want Mr. X has a list of some radios that he has tried and reported working he listed radios for both GB & ICS which I will post a link to his thread below. Try them out and you might just find one that works for you.

I called tmobile about what was going on. They said they were going to try to reset my data connection and that I should reboot my phone and of its not fixed in a couple hours then to call them back.
I did this and all is well again! I'm back to a good signal and have not had any data issues in the past couple hours!
Thanks for all your help though it was greatly appreciated!

Network issues confirmed

I just spent the last 45 minutes on the phone with our lovely service provider. I spoke to initial CSR, her "supervisor" and then another tech. They all said the same thing, they are well aware of the connection and battery issues regarding the phone since the ICS update. There is "nothing else to do until/unless Samsung releases a patch". They offered to send me out another Epic, which I declined by asking if the issues are known why would they send me the same problems. No answer. I say anyone else who has time should call and write in. If we push hard enough we may ever get a patch sooner or different phones. Just a thought.
Going to Boost as soon as my contract is up... Good luck with your fight! I've already contacted them and raised hell about the same issues. Doesn't make a difference. They say there is no way to fix it, blah, blah... Sprint will never survive as a company like this....

Thanks for confirming this for me. I've had some serious trouble with data speeds on FF18/OTA. I've reverted back to EL29 for now.
You do know boost is owned by sprint and uses their service.

If your ROM sucks, why not flash one of the many great custom ones?
You guys do know that the data speed has always been bad right. Right OK maybe you are just getting a taste of some network vision action and should continue being patient. Complaining to sprint is just a waste of your time IMO they already know.

If the update has any effect on data speeds its because Sprint is pushing it out OTA over their already super slow network. For months everybody complained about not having the ics update now everybody is coming out of the woodwork complaining about it and blaming it for everything. Oh no I stepped in gum today, this never happened on GB ... ICS sucks.
This is xda where you come to customize your phone so download a custom rom already and try different modems. Sprint forums are the place for complaints.

You don't know what you're talking about....
All from one location. I run a speedtest using stock EL29 and get 12+mbps down/2+ mbps up on 4g. Flash the FF18 OTA which was pushed to me from Sprint and then run a speed test. On FF18 I receive .5mbps down and 1.5mbps up.
I've done EVERYTHING I can think of to isolate the problem and it is most definitely an ICS issue. I've flashed multiple modem while using the FF18 ROM, including the EL29 modem but still receive awful speeds. I've tried updating PRL and profile, I've tried changing the Wimax settings to connect to a weaker signal, but nothing changes the speeds that FF18 allows. I flash a stock EL29 rom back and immediately get normal 4g speeds again.
Now, what was that about it not being an ICS problem?

Just my opinion but I started noticing bad data speeds after sprint released the updated PRL maybe you could try going back to the previous PRL

Boost ? Good luck getting a signal while your taking a dump- never mind getting 4g or 3g. I had metro Pee See ess...crap and as soon as I entered any store- no signal.
You either get robbed every month by Verizon, Hijacked by AT&T or pickpocketed by Sprint.. pick your poison.

I live in a really bad service area, which radio should I use?

I just moved and I'm kinda pissed. At my old house I was getting over 14 mps down, now I'm getting around 8mps yea its still good but in some parts of the new house I don't get any service

try all radios.
We eagerly wait on your report on your findings.
Nobody can tell you what radio to use unless they live in your house. We all get different coverage with different radios. Some people love the blaze 4g radio, others use stock ics uvle1, and others have had success with the galaxy note radio. Play with them all and see which works best for you

Thank you very much. Now, should I remove a radio in order to flash another one or just flash the new one?

Flashing the new one will overwrite the old one. And I would recommend the radio from the galaxy note by T-Mobile. I never had service in my basement with any other radio, I get two bars of edge now.

You can enable wifi-calling on pretty much any plan from what I understand. I have it enabled and use it on a Monthly 4G plan with the same phone.
Try the different radios for each firmware update. Such as 4.0.1 ROMs need 4.0.4 Radios!

Atrocious 3G speed (1/10 of what my other phone does)

Having really tough time with my SGIII. After rooting stock ROM and even after update to the latest JB leak from Sprint together with radio updates I am still getting really atrocious 3G speeds.
I am usually getting 50K both ways at best in Boston of all places. Any tips how I should troubleshoot?

Is your s3 set to cdma only or lte/cdma
I have not tested it on the s3 but I caught a bug on the evo lte where it was connecting to the new enhanced 3g (not actIve yet)
On the evo it would only connect properly if on cdma only.
You may need the app "network" to further mess with it

[Q] prl changes

Just curious if it is possible to swap to the '00002' verizon prl that has been floating around. I have flashed that on a few of my evos and it worked, just curious if it will play nice with galaxy devices as well since I am new to them.

They definitely can, I have heard of it. I just get terrible reception in certain areas and I know verizon coverage is slightly better so in these areas I would like the speed boost
Also that bootleg prl does not have the records to enable lte and 800smr. Plus the author screwed it up and set all the international stuff as non roaming too. You could rack up a bill and never know it.
