I just spent the last 45 minutes on the phone with our lovely service provider. I spoke to initial CSR, her "supervisor" and then another tech. They all said the same thing, they are well aware of the connection and battery issues regarding the phone since the ICS update. There is "nothing else to do until/unless Samsung releases a patch". They offered to send me out another Epic, which I declined by asking if the issues are known why would they send me the same problems. No answer. I say anyone else who has time should call and write in. If we push hard enough we may ever get a patch sooner or different phones. Just a thought.
Going to Boost as soon as my contract is up... Good luck with your fight! I've already contacted them and raised hell about the same issues. Doesn't make a difference. They say there is no way to fix it, blah, blah... Sprint will never survive as a company like this....

Thanks for confirming this for me. I've had some serious trouble with data speeds on FF18/OTA. I've reverted back to EL29 for now.
You do know boost is owned by sprint and uses their service.

If your ROM sucks, why not flash one of the many great custom ones?
You guys do know that the data speed has always been bad right. Right OK maybe you are just getting a taste of some network vision action and should continue being patient. Complaining to sprint is just a waste of your time IMO they already know.

If the update has any effect on data speeds its because Sprint is pushing it out OTA over their already super slow network. For months everybody complained about not having the ics update now everybody is coming out of the woodwork complaining about it and blaming it for everything. Oh no I stepped in gum today, this never happened on GB ... ICS sucks.
This is xda where you come to customize your phone so download a custom rom already and try different modems. Sprint forums are the place for complaints.

You don't know what you're talking about....
All from one location. I run a speedtest using stock EL29 and get 12+mbps down/2+ mbps up on 4g. Flash the FF18 OTA which was pushed to me from Sprint and then run a speed test. On FF18 I receive .5mbps down and 1.5mbps up.
I've done EVERYTHING I can think of to isolate the problem and it is most definitely an ICS issue. I've flashed multiple modem while using the FF18 ROM, including the EL29 modem but still receive awful speeds. I've tried updating PRL and profile, I've tried changing the Wimax settings to connect to a weaker signal, but nothing changes the speeds that FF18 allows. I flash a stock EL29 rom back and immediately get normal 4g speeds again.
Now, what was that about it not being an ICS problem?

not sure on speed since i never used it.. but i have not once had LoS on EK01 and i been using it the day it was released.
On eg31 my speed were the best I've seen so far and 4g worked well. Since I have switched to ek02 I've noticed the phone acts a lot more quirkier now. the 3g speeds are back to what they were ( a k a terrible) and 4 g conectivity is a lot more erratic. however, I have not had an los issue this entire time I've been running ek02 but I do believe that is because they implemented some of the Los kernel into it; I've witnessed my phone go from perfect signal to no signal and then the phone does a soft reboot without me touching it.

My phone out of the box is still on EG30 with no updates pushed to me yet. I'm not sure what to do with all the info on this subject. Some say bad, others say no problems... Using this phone for the past week I'm still not really sure what everyone is talking about, no soft resets at all for me. I had an Evo 4G before and with my coverage area it just seemed spotty, so to say the signal "drops" im not sure. The only thing I have noticed is when I'm in a 4G area my Evo did drop the signal a lot, when I'm in a 4G area with this phone it stay's connected all the time and is very fast.
It's more or less one of those things you're going to have to try and see. I've had great results with a full ek02 setup and calks 2.01a.
My suggestion... try a full ek02 setup. You can go back now.

MOST modems will perform the same, to be honest. Sprints network is slow as it is, not like flashing a new modem will make a jump in speeds. Its a placebo anyway. With EVERY new modem, the same people will say 3G is better, or 4G is better, or Wifi, Gps, ETC. when in actuality......it doesnt!
Ive had fairly good luck with most of the modems. But today I was not happy with FE07. 4G kept dropping out alot and way too many times 3G was not working. But it works enough to not complain yet. If it goes on for more than another day I will double check FD26.
From EK02 up I can expect up to 15 Mbps on 4G and 500 Kbps to 2 Mbps on 3G. If I see those figures pop up over the course of a week I figure its doing alright. If I have a horrible experience the entire week, crappy performance and never hit anywhere near those numbers then I begin to suspect something. Nearly every modem I have been on had 1.40 to 1.49 Mbps on 4G Upload. When that goes sour on a modem all the time its a quick sign if it persists.
best modem for GPS so far?
Which modem seems to lock on the best with GPS. On EL29 and it isn't very good at all, connects for a while then drops leaving me hanging or won't connect at all. Are they all pretty much the same in this regard? My EVO 4G was really good on GPS.

Samsung devices have not been known for having the best GPS hardware. EL29 is the latest official release but there are several ICS modems available. Try some of them and see how it goes... latest is fe07 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642564

You could brag to your friends about having the latest ICS kernel installed
I like to listen to a streaming talk show on my phone when I shower in the morning. I need wifi to do it, no data at home. Some modems will not connect to my wifi in the same bathroom which is the furthest from the router. Other modems will connect with a strong connection. I don't think every modem is the same.

Well I have had gps issues with all the ICS leaks but I have noticed big differences in speed between certain modems fd19 is a solid modem but fe07 is just as fast for me and my gps actually works especially in navigation and our app places.
The top 3 speeds are on fe07 the bottom 3 are fd19 on 4g

FE07 has been good for me so far. Some of the leaks really crippled my 3G, but FE07 seems to work just as well, if not better, than EL29 - at least for me anyway. Haven't tested GPS yet.
For me, No modem seems to work. I guess I'm plain out of luck. There are no towers near me so my phone ALWAYS(sometimes) fails to send text messages or even make calls.
Anyone one have any suggestions I can try?

You should ALWAYS(sometimes) switch to another carrier.
But seriously, allow roaming if you haven't done so already.

You should be ok as long as you're in your coverage area. I roam all the time and don't get charged extra. I think it has to do with whether you're on Sprint's towers/network or not, and whether those towers are in your coverage area. Might be worth a *2 to Sprint to find out.

Use roam control to force roaming. They will eventually send you a letter telling you they're canceling your account (no early termination fee) due to excess roaming, and you can sell your E4GT and go to another carrier!

Yea alot my friends want to xfer to boost for their low price plans but wanted a awesome phone. Now with the et4 in the future if roam is not a big deal for a persons cell usage and sprint coverage is good for their needs this is a no brainer.
Heck i pay half for unlimited everything compaired to what i was paying with sprint, not having roaming is no big deal for my cell usage so that is ok.
This kind of makes me sick to my stomach.
This is my first smartphone ever, purchased only months ago.
My 30 day return ended only a few days before the release date of the galaxy s3. Sprint saw me coming.
I paid full price for this phone!
LOL and now boost?
My investment depreciated quick!
(Assuming a price-drop: which we can safely assume)

I hear you, now that the ET is on boost unless you really need roaming, why would a ET person go to sprint and pay double, since boost has the same service/coverage as sprint.
Unless you are going to get LTE in your market I can see staying or need LTE speed.

Is your s3 set to cdma only or lte/cdma
I have not tested it on the s3 but I caught a bug on the evo lte where it was connecting to the new enhanced 3g (not actIve yet)
On the evo it would only connect properly if on cdma only.
You may need the app "network" to further mess with it
