LCD and digitizer replacement - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, been awhile since I've been here after moving on to a new phone. My gf dropped my old evo (hers now) and shattered digitizer and LCD isn't doing too well either. I recall reading somewhere that there were different screens and digitizers for different hardware revisions but cannot find that info again to save my life. This true or false? I have a 0004 revision.
Thanks

Yea they do have different ones. I recall the pins that connect it to the mother board are different. Had that happen when my broke. Guy that fixed mine had got the wrong one.

Damn. None if the screens or digitizers that I've seen specify. Ant recommended websites anyone? I've seen repair universe but they don't specify either

Display screen digitizer + LCD repalcement. HELP!!!

Hi sorry to bother I'm looking for a replacement of the whole display screen digitizer + LCD.
Does anybody can recommend a good one.
I've been searching on amazon but mayority of people complain about that the digitizer stop working on the repalcement after a while.
Any help appreciated.
There really isn't any "good one". If you want one that works, get an OEM one made by HTC.
Hey,
I think this might help you!
http://compare.ebay.com/like/290659299424?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y
Of course the higher you go the quality will probably be better but for $15 with free shipping I dont think you can go wrong if the first place, if it does not last long just order a new one!
If you have TEP you are better off getting it replaced by sprint for a new phone.
Good luck!
If I helped please hit that thanks button!
Stevo
I found a used OEM front panel (LCD & digitizer) in good shape on ebay shipped for $50. The guys at my sprint store are cool and installed it for me. That's half what asurion gets and you keep your software setup

There are two different LCD connectors, a wipe one and a "normal" one. The ONLY way to see what one your phone has is to open it up.

Replacement Screen

Is the replacement screen for the SGH-T999 the same as for the i9300?
Specifically this one:
amazon*com/Original-Genuine-Digitizer-Assembly-Samsung/dp/B008AT96VM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1344956995&sr=8-6&keywords=i9300+screen
Also, if you have stories about screen fixes you have done please share

$269 for the international white and blue.
$219 for the atnt red.
Shipping can take a little while but I've bought from this place before with no complaints.

UPDATE:
I bought the screen with the frame attached. It didn't work because the frame has a placement house for the processor, and the processor changes place from american to international version.
In sum, it didn't work and I'm gonna return it and get a screen without frame. Hopefully that works
UPDATE 2:
Bought a new screen without frame.
When removing my old screen following this method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70-W9JjVjg&feature=youtu.be
I noticed that my old screen had printed on it: I9300
This confirms that the screen is the same for all versions of the Galaxy S3, because otherwise it would say SGH-T999, right?

[Q] Should i trade my Nokia N9 for a one x with a messed up LCD?

I sold my htc amaze a few months ago to buy the n9 and im getting tired of not having any app selections (it was cool at first), and the one x looks pretty sick. found someone on craigslist that is willing to trade but he dropped the phone and the screen doesn't turn on. he has a new digitizer for it but not an LCD. They aren't too expensive on ebay (found one for like $40). he said the phone turns on and everything works (capacitive buttons, sound, etc). The thing im worried about is if it has water damage, is there any way to find out? and if not do you guys think its worth it?
thanks
edit: nevermind did more searching on the water damage indicator and found it. still would like to know your opinions/advice though
A screen repair requires the digitiser and LCD. Just do a search for broken screen threads here.

thanks for your reply. yeah ive watched a few videos on it but since they are selling the LCDs on ebay separated from the digitizer I figured you could replace it itself..
edit: im reading on other threads that they are two separate units? some people are saying they are on unit and others are saying the opposite. starting to wonder if its worth it..

Official ones come as one unit and cost more. It'll cost about 150 UK pounds for official repair. Factor that into your cost, and the fact that it's second hand, and the fact you can't test it properly... Is it worth it? I doubt it, but a working One X is an incredible device.

this is what im looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-LCD-DIS...930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c7451912 you don't think this would be real? it also has 30 days money back so if it isn't the real deal..
Don't do it, go for a proper second hand device a fully working one, better to have the original screen as it's a lovely screen.

thank you, ill take your advice. it seems not many people are interested in the n9 as much as I thought they would.
It always feels good to have a new device which is fresh and you are much sure that it doesn't have a defect or something, if you're are looking for some advice, well for me, i will personally tell you that go and just buy a new one ( Fresh like Dougie )

Looking for a new lcd

So, I'm looking for a new LCD for my recently acquired gnex. Everything on it is working perfect except the lcd has what looks almost like damage from a magnet in the bottom right corner. I've looked around a little bit but can't find any for less than almost 200 usd. That's more than I paid for the phone and I refuse to pay that much for a single part. Does anyone here know where I should look?

E-bay has always been cheapest on spare parts when I repair phones.
If it's still too expensive, either by another ruined gnex, where the LCD is intact, or sell yours as damaged and buy a new device.

I have the Sprint version, and to my knowledge the screen and LCD are fused (glued really good) together, so I had to replace the whole assembly. So yeah, may not help you, but good luck though!

Sad day, cracked screen.

Well, sad day today. A golf ball landed on my galaxy s3's screen. Needless to say, golf ball > galaxy s3.
Called customer service to see how much it is to be replaced, and with my insurance, its a big 166$. Ridiculous.
EDIT:
My brother works at a Radio shack, and they'll fix it for like 100$.
Has anyone used Radio shack before to get a screen replacement? If so, how long did it take, and did they do a goob job?
feet taiserva
Purchase the replacement screen on eBay, watch a video on youtube on the screen replacement. It's easier than you think and wouldn't cost much at all. If your opposed to that I would trust them, it's not difficult.

The 100$ is what my brother said, after looking online it actually ends up to being 329$.
I'm thinking I'll let T-Mobile do it... I don't want to risk destroying it myself..
Kind of sucks though, a golf ball dropped and cracked it as bad as it did, it's at the bottom, like right on the home button, but the crack went to nearly the top of the screen.
Did you check eBay?? I would think they were way under $100 for the screen.

Well I checked Amazon, I have Amazon Prime for free for being a student.. and they are around $15-20.
I just don't want to take the chance that i make it worse than it already is... I'm not good at all at doing things like that, I'd rather it be done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Also, they said I could use a phone from the T-Mobile store until mine is replaced, which is pretty cool..
Understandable you don't want to make it worse than it already is. Try looking for places in your local area, there are repair shops that fix phones and video game systems for a fraction of the cost. Some times on Groupon they have Groupons for say $60 for a screen replacement, that's always another option you could check out.

Yea, I will look around.. But I do like that I can take it to T-Mobile, and they will loan me a phone while it's being fixed. I'll have to odin it back to stock though. Oh well.
Thanks for the input!
Can't hurt to check around. Anytime!
Ontop of having Radio Shack doing it...it will void your warranty...to keep your warranty either have T-Mobile or Samsung fix it.

Well I called the insurance company this morning. They said $150, and that my replacement phone will be here tomorrow.
All is well, atleast it still works so I can use it until the new one comes tomorrow. Glad im getting a new one as well, instead of just getting this one fixed and sent back.
Thanks for feedback guys! :victory:
Well, as new as a refurbished phone can get. Any replacement/warranty phone that congress from tmobile is most likely going to be refurbished. I know because I have one and I'm very nit picky about my phone and always find some small defect with it.

Yeah, I have had that experience as well... Although more often than not, I end up with a busted camera which is more than a *minor* defect...
Asurion sometimes sends out BNIB devices but only if a) they don't have a refurb on hand or b) you've gone through a few refurbs in a short time.
I tried fixing my Nexus One's cracked screen...ROYALLY ****ed it up (just a little too much glue & ripped a ribbon) and ended up wasting $150 even after selling it for parts on eBay.
I would say if you are thinking about doing it yourself and don't have a lot of patience/manual dexterity/proper tools & work environment, don't try.
Also I figure the S3 is probably a lot harder to take apart than my old N1.

Yeah it may come plastic wrap and all but it's a refurbished one. Fixing the one you had at least you knew it was ok and how old it is compare to a used one that may bring a host of issues.

It came with the phone, a battery, a back cover, a usb and charger, headphones, a new sims card.
I'm wondering if I need to send back my old battery, or just the old phone?
