Oops!!!!! Did samsung forget to put a hole where the notification led is? Why funny you should ask that. It sure seems like they did. Here is an easy way to fix that annoying little oversight. All you need is:
A drill
A 3/32 drill bit
A single edge razor blade
A pen
Some patience
The led to the left of the speaker is the notification led.Simply measure across the distance to the middle of the led light. Make a dot on the front of the case. Drill slowly through the front first, then you can bounce to the back.Do that a few times then I used just the drill bit by hand and a single edge razor blade to clean it up. Lastly put the pen through the hole several times in front and back to make sure the hole is perfect. I also pushed lightly with the pen while turning it, to make sure the case was completely flat again on both sides. Now enjoy your flip case the way it should of been in the first place. .
I didn't know if I should post this in general or accessories so mods if I put it in the wrong place I apologize and feel free to move it.
Thanks
Very clever:thumbup:

Yeah, seems EVERYONE forgot. It is driving me crazy! I got a cheap cover for a start and was going to exactly that. Don't have a drill, but will have to improvise, starting with your method unless I can borrow a leather-belt-hole-puncher (those might be faster and give a cleaner hole).
Samsung should pay attention to its own features and learn how to do it properly. I expect other cases to have sloppy usability design, but not theirs.
I was going to do the exact same thing with the free one I will be receiving in a couple weeks. Glad to know it works.
Actually enjoy not having the hole in the flip cover. I usually forget to turn off led notification before I go to bed. The light blinking will wake up my wife.

Blocking mode will allow you to set times when specific notifications are disabled. I block all led and sound notifications between 11pm and 7am, but allow phone calls and alarms during this period.

That's a really cool idea!! It was one of the first things that I noticed was missing on the case. However after having the caee for almost 2 months now I am finding that the edges are peeling and I may just switch to another case.

Going to have to carefully measure the hole placement.
What a cool idea! Once my free flip case arrives ill try this out. Thanks!

I can see where you are coming from on that. In my case, I did the mod more so to be able to still see the notification and keep the case closed to keep the note protected at all times. You could always flip it over at night?

Just a thought here, I didn't think of this till just now but you can plug in the note and lay a piece of paper across it and make your mark that way. I just tried it out and the led glows right through the paper. That should leave no room for error if it is done that way.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
I think I now know why Samsung (almost almost everyone else) is not adding LED cutouts to the covers. I have had my N7000 for four days now and LED behaviour is very erratic. Sometimes it just stops working completely. Sometimes it doesn't light up even while charging. The hardware test shows that the LED is fine, being definitely a sw issue.
try a hole punch!
I wound up using a paper hole punch. Size of the hole is good to be able to see the light from different angles and doesn't actually look too big at all and it's very clean. Punch through the front first though.
You can't spend enough time working out exactly where to punch though! I marked on the hole punch itself on two sides the position and size the hole and measured, marked and measured again.
The case material is good for punching like this, it's solid.
I imagine a leather punch will be as good or better and allow you to more exactly position the hole, but I didn't have one and I'm impatient

Purpose of this thread
Just wanted to share my pics (at Bottom) and helpful tips for any first time doers to customizing...or have a place where you can ask questions some noobs might think are stupid but it's cool that what this is for
Obviously i'm not responsable for anything that YOU do TO YOUR phone ...just a disclaimer just incase...obviously this is not rocket science but better safe ...and OBviously Not responsible for the Sellers on ebay...and what they do. Your actions are your own...thanks now that's clear ...we move on.
Ok so i had a black t989d samsung galaxy S II from telus
I bought a white vinyl decal and a white battery door of ebay.
Ebay links of the ones i bought (links may expire over time)
White Door : http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OEM-BATTERY-...785829?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35b9c24ee5
White vinyl decal (basically like a sticker but it will not leave marks or glue on you screen so it's safe)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/White-Vinyl-...495791?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19cd79d3ef
Tips :to applying the vinly on the front
i would recommend buying 2 vinyls just to be safe or mess up sticking it properly...the stickness is best the first time/ second time
Clean your phone first -microfibre clothes are best...like those tiny cloth sheets that comes with sunglasses
I say second time only if you didn't press down firmly on it to make it stick if you just gentle drop on using mainly the weight of the sticker itself it cool to remove it and re-adjust 2 maybe 3 times
Obviously remove the holes for the camera and hearing speaker
Use the bezel, the silver frame that goes around the sides of your phone to guide yourself to being straight
APPLYING:
The way i apply it is holding the top Thick / fat part (front facing camera ) on edges (so it doesn't stick to my fingers) with first finger and thumb rougly around the centre same thing with the bottom part with the 4 android buttons (both hands being above the sticky part not below)
then use my middle fingers to push the lines along the frame to make them come straight....more importantly trying to line up the bottom so the lights light up the drawings on the stick for the 4 button it won't come perfect which is ok but the light should be really close to it if you line up the bottom with the silver frame
Note for the camera part there's an outline sticker that goes around the camera piece as well ...for that remove the battery door is makes it easier
What my black phone looks like after:
Front and back image - Pic 1 and 2
Battery door / camera piece can be seen- Pic 3
LED light 4 buttons - Pic 4
DON't forget to HIT the THANKS button (thumbs up) if you found this helpful

Umm sure but the screen protector should ideally, either cover the entire front including the top, like around the front camera etc...or be the same size or smaller then the rectangle that fits inside the frame of the white vinyl ...only because it will have a weird little raised outline underneath of the protector...if you don't mind that then yeah should be fine...hopefully that makes sense what i said and it's not confusing LOL (PS unfortuantely it doesn't come a protector for the screen)
an alternative...just an opinion ... would be you could get another screen protector (i know a lil more costly) then remove the old one...place the white vinyl on the phone take the new protector (without pealing the back thingy that protectors the stickness) place on top of the phone trace with a marker (on the side that peals away of course)cut the outline with an exacto (X-acto) knife *after tracing, take it of the phone to use the exacto lol just saying to be safe...never know people may try exacto on top of their phone LOL *
Hope that helps...feel free to ask any other questions
Looking for a front vinyl without the four android buttons printed on. Just clear black, white, or carbon. Does anyone know where to get one for the T989? Thanks.

yeahh that is a bit tricky but if you look closely i'm not exactly on the light i'm slightly off ...it's nearly impossible to get it dead on 100% but if the light falls under to light up the printed button it should be good enough....i actually mainly focused on the framing the whole as straight as possible using the bezel (silver frame of the phone) as the guide...the button should line up roughly 95% if you get it straight frame on frame... if it helps my top corners both left and right have a lil black space showing (around the curves) you can't even see it really....it cuz i focused on making sure my front camera and senors were not covered and then lined everything up downwards.....hopefully this makes some sense...LOL

This is the first one I did with extended battery cover.

Bump just got done sprayed the red cover had to sand down the primer to get rid of any texture from the battery cover smothered it down with 800g then applied the paint. Here are a few pics. Also the texture will go away as the paint is curing andthe gloss will change as u can see from the pictures it starts out glossy and quickly begins to lose that gloss.
Enjoy the pics next will be the white parts.

That's could be the reason. If it were mine I would try a different color because u see some white ones already though this will be custom another color might be nice and more custom than a white lte nexus. I didn't realize the frame and screen are attached on the gs3. I planned on painting the white model silver bezel black along with home button and earpiece but seeing as how screen is attached to screen I'd rather wait til I damage my screen or just leave it as is til next nexus phones. Hopefully they are as easy to modify as the last.

Tuesday bump got the white paint ready and masked the nexus frame now I need to lightly scuff the body and buttons and hopefully paint today. Heat is not on my side though had to use a real slow reducer to get paint to layout similar to the red. Blue tape is low tack so I used that for the glass so it doesn't leave tape residue. Its a low tack fine line tape and the yellow is a 3m masking tape. Let me know what u think last is a sample of the white it will end up. Photos taken in a semi badly lit area so white is actually straight white.
Enjoy

Once you get your phone I guarantee that you will never want to go back to a smaller size screen. That's the feeling I got when I had to go back to using my old Mytouch 4g for a bit while getting my Note 2 replaced. But speaking about the screen. Make sure you do some quality checks like dead pixels, stuck pixels, etc. On my first note 2, I noticed that there was what looked like a blob of ink in the middle of the screen that was only noticeable on a dark background. It bothered me enough to do a replacement. The second one that I have now has zero screen issues that I can see. But the home button has a slight amber brown color to it under certain lighting. But it doesn't bother me too much. So in short... Just do your own quality checks while your still in your return period.
My home button feels like something was wrong with it, I don't know how to really explain it, but when I clicked it, it feels like it's not solid or attached correctly, I thought I'd just defective or something.
It's been like that for few weeks until I saw somewhere, use isopropyl alcohol pad to rub the button and click it rapidly, repeat for couple more times, and now my home button feels perfect and solid.

I have a bad habit of keeping the note 2 next to me while sleeping so i must've rolled on top of it last night!!
Is it possible for it to happen in the first place???
Or may be keeping in my pocket of tight pants and riding the bike can do that to my note 2??

well this seems impossible as though the phone make is plastic it cant bent if you have rolled on top as the mattress is soft enough to protect the impact or rather it could have broken due to body pressure and to the contrary i have been carrying the phone in my jeans riding my bike to for the last 3 months and no issues whatsoever.

N2 is a big phone, I carry mine in my pocket too, but I try to keep it safe from bending. Its a fact that its easy to bend such a big and long phone but riding a bicycle and bending it is a bit weird, we are waiting for pictures and further posting from you. And if thats true, try to use your warranty and get a new one? You might get lucky!
Sent from the GNote2 running Assassin & SaberKernel
Is it really bent.... than thats one in a million production. Sounds weird thou...
I've seen videos of product testing for the GN2, and one test involved twisting the phone. It always returned to its original shape, and the twist was quite severe. You'd need a lot of force to bend this phone beyond the yield point and I'm not sure you can reach it by rolling over it on a bed. Check the battery, if you haven't already, maybe it's defective, bulging out and bending the phone in the process.
I've also carried my phone in different pockets on my bike since I got it, 1-2 months after it came out. I even fell on it once when my front wheel slipped on a patch of ice. There is a slight ripple in the glass now, only noticeable at a sharp angle, but I don't know if it's from my fall or just a manufacturing issue. Either way, I'm quite impressed with the phone's durability. If falling ass-first on it on the hard icy pavement didn't break it, I'm sure rolling over it in bed wouldn't either. I'd check it thoroughly to be certain that they couldn't blame me for damaging it and send it to warranty.
It doesn't make sense because the front panel which basically made of hardened glass shouldn't bend. If anything any stress beyond its limit will end up breaking it. Anyways, try getting a clear shot otherwise people will have a hard time believing you.

Exactly.
I would think that the only way to bend a glass panel would be to use an extreme amount of heat, like a torch. You would have to heat up the glass until glows red, and then bend the it. I just googled "how to bend glass" and here is a link for anyone interested, http://m.wikihow.com/Bend-Glass
You could possibly flex it, but it should snap right back into its original shape. Besides, the rest of the phone is a fairly flexible plastic.

That's probably gonna depend on the sales rep. Some will probably think you're too picky or they will understand and give you another. Also I assume they would lose sale on the other since it's been opened. But it's always worth a try. If you return it for a refund they would lose a sale as well. Good luck.

Gap around the glass has been mentioned on here before. Expansion and contraction prevents glass cracking according to another forum member. My home button is good. With all these manufacturers tolerances I'm hesitant to swap units as the next one may have another quirk that I won't be able to live with. Cue my old Galaxy S4. Verticle lines down screen noticeable on grey backgrounds in low light. Swapped that unit 2 times. 3rd unit was same. However wife's s4 was perfect.

Something that, as a phone tech, I feel the need to explain- it is NORMAL for buttons to wiggle. It is NOT a defect and NOT a reason to exchange the device. You are not going to find one that doesn't have at least some degree of movement, just due to the way these phones are constructed. The button itself is just a little piece of plastic & silicone that is aligned with the hole in the screen before the whole unit is assembled. It is not actually attached to anything, it is free-floating inbetween the digitizer and the board underneath. Even if you manage to get one that doesn't wiggle, it will eventually start to wiggle the more you use it as the materials relax.
I agree. But I think the problem is the hole is bigger than it should be so the buttons have a lot of room too move around compared to the s4. Thats just how it is on this phone. Take it or leave it. The glass is a different story as it can be off centered when put on.
