windows 8 - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I've been away for over a month now, and i need to update to windows 8, does anyone know if flashtool and ADB drivers work with W8?
I want to keep trying roms, but i really need windows 8 installed also... I could make a partition, but it would be so much simpler if they work... Thanks

Flashtool works fine with win8. if you need to re-install drivers you'll need to turn off the driver signature check that win8 has or they won't install
Details here on what you need to do http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913245&page=3 post at the top

to be honest , that was the one of reason that i downgraded to windows 7 !
i've disabled " driver signature" ... but some timed i had problem on fastboot mode

What exactly was the problem? Fastboot via adb or flashtool? Or both? I already upgraded to 8 but haven't tested anything, perharps this weekend when I get the time.
Thanks for your answers.

[Q] Bootloader Unlock - Driver Problem - Oops

Having a bit of an issue with the bootloader unlock instructions from here:
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Basically the problem is that step 13 just isn't happening. First time I tried it DID pop up but for some reason the bit asking for drivers closed down. Now I can't get to the point where I choose the drivers so I can't go any further.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!
I don't Understand What do you mean Go to -->Right Click Computer-->Propeties-->Device Manager-->Then Go to "S1 Boot Device"-->Then Right Click on it and Click Driver Something-->Select the Drivers The Drivers for Fastboot never Get Found By windows You'll manually do them on every PC for the first Time!

Thanks! I can't believe Sony didn't put that in their guide. Thought it would be something simple but my last phone I did this on was a Nexus One so i didn't have to do that. Once again thanks! Problem solved.
Then again perhaps there is still a problem...
Did this, went to the right file, the drivers are DEFINITELY here, yet Windows can't find them. WTF Windows?
Oh well, sure its not a huge issue. Any ideas anyone?
Use the latest version of PDAnet. It will solve your driver problems, you won't have to do anything else.

By any chance, are you using AMD machine?

Yes actually, I am. Not by choice but that's not really relevant right now. Does that make a difference here?

Sorry but I've tried looking this up and I'm not sure if I'm finding the right thing. Mind sending a link or something? Thanks!
You need some different AMD driver for fastboot to work.
I found the same problem with AMD machine and used a different driver posted by someone on this forum.
Search for it and you will be ok to boot into fastboot once it is properly installed.

Ah right, you would really think that Sony would mention these things. Thanks, I'll give that a shot later, bit busy right now.

Type pdanet on Google and the first couple of links will show its official page.. Download the windows version of it then install it, it may take a couple of tries. (it took me 3 tries before it got installed)

I got a similar problem, except that, Device manager does not list S1 Boot device..
But the phone is connected in fastboot mode.. blue led and everything..
the only things listed are:
* Base System Device
* Bluetooth Peripheral Device
* Bluetooth Peripheral Device
* Bluetooth Peripheral Device
* Bluetooth Peripheral Device
* Bluetooth Peripheral Device
But I can eject the device by clicking on the icon in the bottom right.. and that reads "Eject S1Boot Fastboot" ..
but why isnt it listed in device manager?
Fix for unlocking bootloader on AMD based computers
For any one looking for the AMD google driver here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554805
Just unzip and copy to the "Android SDK > extras > google folder on your computer" step 9 and 10 in the sony instructions, good luck people =)

Windows 8 - Drivers x86

Guys i need help.
Normally i connect my note 2 to my windows 7 64 bit system, however i have recently upgraded to a windows 8 desktop and now i cannot get the PC to recognize the drivers at all.
I installed the toolkit and downloaded/installed drivers accordingly NO DICE
downloaded drivers directly from samsung, only 1 available download.... installed.... NO DICE
Phone is in USB debugging mode but that apparently changes nothing. I have not changed anything at all except the computer i'm connecting the phone too. Is this phone compatible w/ win8? I have 64-bit so i am not sure if that's a problem.

This is interesting... so the drivers on the samsung website are unsigned? that's pretty dumb. Will try this quick fix first and see if that fixes it. Thanks

Yeh tat didn't help..
as suggested in another forum, i disabled one of my usb root hubs in the device manager....it didnt give me that enumeration error and installed the driver but my pc only detects my phone in flash mode(even though i press the button for fastboot)...
It's a common problem with the fastboot drivers at the moment.
The really strange thing is that things still don't work properly if you have 8.1 with XP running in vmware.
Hopefully some smart cookie will work it out

i'll try this thanks
The same problem. I tried UpdateService and PCC , it still does't work!

Apparently something was changed in 8.1, making the current method useless.
For now, nothing can be done, you will just have to wait until a new solution is made or move back to Windows 8 or any previous OS.

There is no known solution at the moment. Just wait until a solution is found or return to older version of Windows.

Use another PC, which has earlier version of Windows. There are no fastboot drivers, which work with Windows 8.1, nor there is a solution to make the older ones work.

If you have usb 3.0 you can try it is working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46997772

I found this guide - http://www.droid-now.com/2013/10/fix-working-fastboot-drivers-windows-8-1-x64/
I have USB 3.0, but I don't use Intel-based stuff. Maybe if I update to 8.1, I might try. For now, up to you to test, if you are willing to.

[Q] FlashTool incompatible with windows 8.1

Hello, I'm sorry if I did something wrong or posted, is that I'm new here and do not speak English because I'm Brazilian.
What I wanted to know if there is a way of FlashTool running on Windows 8.1 because when I try flashing the program error and says that the device is not working properly, then there is a way to work? I have the xperia s!
I learned that the worse way possible when í bricked my XS,looks like some problem with flashmode drivers,even if install it with driver signature enforcement disable...anyway i returned to Windows 7 after All that.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Its not flashtool's issue, but drivers wont install.. same on windows 8.0 too... i had it worked once disabling driver signature check, but afterwards stopped detecting in flashmode...
