[Q] Help Flashing Sprint S3 to Straight Talk - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have found people who offer services for flashing a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 to Straight Talk but I am fairly decent at following instructions. I was wondering if anyone knew of any links to a good walkthrough on how to accomplish this properly. I tried searching the forums but haven't come across anything as of yet. Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I was unable to find the information.
Also, does anyone know what network the service would run off of (i.e. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile)? I currently have my phone rooted and am running CM10, would I still be able to use the same root and rom files? Thanks in advance!

Yes, service provider and device are independent of one another, Comcast doesnt require using Windows 8 for internet right?
As for how to do it, I think I saw a thread in General about this, try searching "straight talk" just in this forum
And it would have to be one of the carriers that supports CDMA so At&t is out of the question

Sprint S3 is CDMA. Straight Talk is mostly GSM, AT&T and Tmobile, with the exception of Verizon. Not going to work.
Sell your Sprint S3 (or trade it) for either an AT&T or Tmobile S3 depending on which carrier you want to go with when on Straight Talk (you pick one). Their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) plan only works with GSM phones, either Tmobile or AT&T (no need to unlock either) or unlocked phones with the correct bands. Just insert a respective SIM card.

I may be wrong but I believe ST has both gsm and cdma phones. The model # for the phone ending in C for cdma.

Straight talk does support CD a. I work at Walmart and our prepaid straight talk phones use AT&T towers and some use sprints towers.

It does support CDMA, theres a thread in the EVO 4G forums about how to flash that (cdma) phone to StraightTalk

Like i said, with the exception of Verizon. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. Their only CDMA phones are Verizon branded, that's it. Their BYOP program only works on GSM phones. Sell or trade your Sprint S3 for a GSM S3 (AT&T or Tmobile) and save yourself a lot of hassle and grief.

AT&T is not a CDMA carrier, so what's your point?

Definitely possible

For people like me, where att service sucks, simply using an att phone isnt the solution. Not only that, att theottles their mvnos - I frequently get acces forbidden errors when trying to use data. Google it.
What you are asking for CAN be done. Straight talk offers service for gsm on att and cdma on verizon. Sonce you are coming from sprint - cdma - you will be using verizon towers. You will need to flash the phone. I am attempting to do this today by following on of the above guides.
I will post back how it goes for me.

Any luck so far? I have a buddy who is asking me to do this for him. I couldn't find any guides specific to the S3. Would like to know if it actually works before messing with his phone lol.

Any guides for flashing to page plus also will work here except the esn will have to be switched i believe.... But i know it can be done... Galaxy s3 on verizon cdma straight talk towers....

Thanks for the input. I know it CAN be done its just how and the details of which network it uses. Someone will do it for $50 but I can typically follow a guide well enough to do things on my own. I'll wait to see how some of these others go that are trying it. Thanks for the input!

Most of the time its put on verizon network for better swrvice area

Sprint S3 on Straight Talk
it is possible to flash a sprint s3 to straight talk, i am using one now that i flashed over...
because of things that cannot be discussed her, you will need to pm me for details...
as far as mms is concerned, you will need to use go sms from the play store and enter mms settings manually, this is what worked for me, i could not get the stock messaging program to work with mms

Rooted and CWM my epic 4gt, now how do I flash to straight talk and activate?

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?
Sorry searched couldn't find this answered.
You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.
ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

It looks like sprint changed some 3g passwords after the iphone release. thats why my speeds reverted to 1X. You can update the passwords but if you didnt flash the phone yourself then you need to get it back to whomever did it and they can update it. I actually just took my eg4t and flashed it to straight talk wireless instead. $45 unlimited everything(although they are supposedly cutting people off that use more than 3-5g per month) It runs off Verizons towers so my speeds quadrupled over sprints crappy 3g speeds."

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.
Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.
For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.
Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)
Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.
Here you go:

I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.
Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

how did you flash yours?
I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done

Do all the Sprint prepaid spinoffs (Boost/Virgin et. al.) offer unlimited data, or is it capped/throttled?
Sent from an Android-powered HP Touchpad.
Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.
So far, very happy with this

[Q] Sprint to Verizon?

I've seen some threads that are close, but I wanted to know if I can flash my GS3 from Sprint for use on the Verizon network? I'm not trying anything shady, it's just that Sprint's network has me about at my end, and I was given a demo S3, and man, it's not even close.
So, I have an S3, with no outstanding contract from Sprint, can I use it with a new account on Verizon? Just trying to avoid ending up with a Sprint GS3...
Thanks
No, you can't. I'm pretty sure the Verizon version uses frequencies that the Sprint version can't. For instance, Sprint's version uses 1900MHz for LTE, but Verizon's uses 700MHz.
Even if the radios matched, it wouldn't work because the Verizon one requires a removable SIM for LTE, and that's not an option on the Sprint one.
On the bright side, there's a chance you could do an even trade with someone who has the Verizon S3, so no one has to spend extra money.
Verizon and Sprint use a different frequency between networks, the actual hardware in the phone (radio) cant pick up anything else than its been made to see. Best bet is selling sprint phone and buying a verizon model
Really? My Sprint GS3 was flashed to Verizon with no issues. LTE of course does not work but I knew that prior to flashing. My 3g speeds are pretty good anyway, much faster than Sprints.

You need a sim card for straight talk. The Verizon phone does not physically take a sim card. So, no, unfortunately, you can't.

Sorry for being unclear; let me clarify. I'm pretty sure you have an LTE sim card, which is not the same as, say, a GSM AT&T sim card (which would be compatible).
If Verizon switched to the compatible sim cards, my apologies for posting the wrong information.
I tried with a verizon galaxy nexus on straight talk i bought the sim card activated then cut the sim card to a mini booted phone and no go different frequencies in canada anyways
Well actually if you have a Verizon Incredible 2 phone it does have a sim card that if tthe phone is unlocked does acept any sim card. The INC2 is a world phone, I have one near Chicago for my son and it works on Verizon, ATT, or Tmo

Help yourself then
Search on eBay. There are people that will flash your phone to Straight Talk. And yes, Straight Talk is both a GSM and a CDMA MVNO. If it's a CDMA phone then it gonna be using Verizon's network, but if it's a GSM phone, it's gonna be using At&t's network.
Straight talk doesn't use ATT anymore. You can still find the Sims that will work but they cut the plan down. GSM is primarily focused on TMo now.
I set my gf up with her iPhone 4S and she likes it.
I didn't know about supporting CDMA and their website doesn't say anything about it. I'm not even sure the process. I'm assuming a CDMA sim?
I don't think this will work, at least not by traditional means.

I wasn't aware of that change, thanks for the info. If you go on the Straight Talk site, and look up the phones they have for sale, the CDMA ones will have the Verizon coverage map underneath. The problem is getting your phone's esn/meid onto the Straight Talk system. Like I said, go on eBay and there are people who will do that and fully flash the phone for you.

[Q] What note 2 to buy next

I currently own a note 2 L900 sprint version flashed over to boost mobile. Right now I have it on ebay. I want to get one I can use with straight talk or other gsm providers. I hear it's easy to get the ATT version on straight talk. I also hear the Verizon version can be flashed over to straight talk but idk why if it was unlocked the apn couldn't be added to use straight talk. If anyone can clarify that please let me know. Also I see different versions for Verizon and different versions for ATT. Please help me in deciding the perfect note 2 for me! Thank you all very much for viewing and any input I may get on this. Also being able to go back to boost mobile might be a plus. Where I go Verizon is the best signal but I'm all done with paying such a high bill and only getting squat for data. Also I would like to add Sprint service sux!
ok, from what I gather the sprint/verizon phones can be used and run on verizon signal. Att and tmobile run on ATT. Anyone know if there's any phones that can be programmed to accept both signals. that would be fantastic. CDMA vs GSM would be the stopper but what about the 4s and it being CDMA and GSM?
