i bought samsung galaxy s3 at&t (unlocked) in USA, and currently using it in India. tethering and hotspot feature cannot be enabled, it says "invalid sim" and gps when turned on keeps blinking, never fixes to a location.. samsung service centers here do not consider the device as it was not purchased in India. any solutions? i havent rooted nor done any modifications...

My first guess would be that it's not going to fully function on the cellular network in India, since it's a North American phone?
Ya if it is North American phone I would assume GPS is looking for the North American GPS satellites? I know on my old Captivate you could change what satellites it looked for, I think.

If your device was rooted, you could easily change the prefered NTP server used by your phone's GPS (for example using FasterGPS). Like ConeyKiller said, that will generally allow for a faster fix. There are also other tools, like GPS Status and Toolbox, that allow you to see if your GPS finds satellites.
Except for these two features everything else is working just fine.. it's unlocked so it should work, I'm guessing.

Thank you. GPS status does not show any connected satellites, you're right it does not connect to Indian satellites. Is there any solution or any way to fix this without rooting? Cuz I bought it like 2weeks back, and I don't want to root it for another 2 3 months atleast.

Just root...nothing to be scared about if you read read and read.

I don't know if it's a dk28 thing or my rom but roam control screwed my phone so bad. I had to do a restore. Even reflashing the rom wouldn't fix it.

I've never had a problem and I've used it on every kernel released or leaked. Did you select your phone model in the options tab of the app? Otherwise I don't know why out screwed your phone up. Right now I'm on viper 3.0.3 and it works flawlessly. I use it allllllll the time too.

Works great on DK28.. even with a modified PRL for VZW 3G roaming makes it better. Sprint 3G sucks in my area, I'm lucky to get 70-80 kilobits. Most of the time its 20 or so.

I read in another thread that using this a lot will get your account cancelled.
Is this true? If so, please include an info source (link) if possible.
I get rather crappy signal while I'm at home, so I'm interested in this app, but I'm usually using voice calls while I'm at home, so I don't want to get myself canceled for roaming during 90%+ of my voice calls.
Thankx for any info.

Spoke too soon...after a few hours of being installed, i opened up roam control and it forced closed, rebooted my phone and my app drawer is empty.
I paid for this app, and any roaming I force upon my phone gives poor data...
Apparently one bar of sprint is better than 4bars of roaming mystery carrier.

I too did have it working until I rebooted. Good luck getting it working again. I sent him an email requesting a refund since he says he will offer a 24 hour refund policy in his description on the market even after the market change.

It's because VZW has a 1x roaming agreement with Sprint (meaning sprint phones can only roam with 2G, not 3G connections).
Does any one know if this will work with U.S. Cellular? I had VZW before i got my Epic so its of no help to me if it will not work with U.S. Cellular, there is a deedspot i'm in a lot & Sprint works better than VZW does but only U.S. Cellular works consistently

Hi
I've just come back from Belgium and have been frustrated with my GPS. last time I went, I had a different mobile and I'm positive that when data roaming was off it worked fine. This time it wouldn't located my location unless I found a free hotspot.
What am I doing wrong or is my nexus not working correctly?

Thanks for the comments - I suppose I need root for FastFix.
I think the question still stands though - should GPS work without wifi or data-roaming?
Since wifi and mobile data should only provide a faster fix and have nothing to do with the stability of the gps fix, yes gps should work without wifi and data roaming. You might have to wait for a few minutes to get the first lock but after that it should work like it always did.
A few weeks ago I started to have this problem; i'm ussually connected to the HDSPA network, but the phone turns data off all the time and the only way to get the signal back is rebooting (even turning on and off plane mode doesn't solve it). Calls work perfectly.
I'm on stock 4.0.4, no modified kernels or roms. My carrier is Simyo, Spain.

That´s not my problem; the phone functions work great all the time, but data connection goes off. It happened when I was on 4.0.2 and now on 4.0.4 the issue is still there.
I too am having this same issue with a GSM Galaxy Nexus on stock yakju 4.0.4, but I'm in Canada on the Bell network, and did change the radio to the one they install on their phones.
I've been having this same problem just in the last day or two, ever since I enabled NFC. 4.04, stock kernel, calls go through as normal but no network data. When I disable NFC, everything is back to normal. Anyone else notice conflict with NFC enabled?

I believe this is with the 4.0.4 IMM76D build, it's fixed on 4.0.4 IMM76I.
Again, what the OP has reported, and I am experiencing the same, is that network connectivity does not drop, rather that at least in some scenarios (as is my experience with NFC enabled) network data drops. Really curious if anyone else out there has seen the same on the most recent build and in particular if anyone else has seen a conflict with NFC enabled.
Try matching your radio interface layer with the radio version. This app will help

My baseband and RIL match. Now i'm using franco m4 but the problem persists.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
RIL and baseband matching here too. Thx for suggestion though. Handy little app too.
Unrelated, perhaps.
Sorry, but this might not be related: I have an issue with the phone going into 2G when I'm at work -- 23rd floor office. I must manually change it to 2G/Edge every time. All the other folks around me seem to continue without issue and are able to make calls although their signal isn't too hot. GetRIL says baseband and RIL match. I'm using XXLA2 on AT&T in NYC.
Tried searching around for a solution, but I'm not finding anything.
I had the data drop issue as well, not sure if this is related, but around the same time I matched up my RIL, I also switched from francokernel to glados. I have been using glados 1.34 & have not had the issue since.

I've noticed that data connection seems to drop when I switch apps. Does this happen to anybody else? Whenever I switch from one app to another, say from Chrome to Twitter, data connection is lost and then reconnects in about 5 to 10 seconds. There's been occasions when I've lost network signal completely and the only fix, other than to reboot, seems to be to turn airplane mode on and to turn it off again.
I have a GSM Gnex. Is this a hardware problem or will it be fixed with 4.0.5?
I just found out you can use google maps without data kind of like navigation, you just need to save a big poirtion of your city (in example I live in mexico city and I saved all of it), make your route (conected to wifi) and then turn your data off, maps will guide you using GPS, the only issue is that if you detour it wont recalculate another way, hope it helps someone

You download it via wifi then access the maps with no connection at all. I used it going to Peru recently not knowing if I'd have any connection. It worked great before I got a Claro sim card.

That is correct my friend. I've found gps works fine just about everywhere, barring tall buildings, etc. I was using an app called Maps With Me Pro before Google updated Maps, just before my trip. You download maps for any country with that app.

Hi all,
I am currently running a non H3G ROM on my Note 2 LTE.
As Three UK are pushing out 4G to London users, I wondered if I would need to be on an official Three UK ROM for it to happen?
As I understand it, a message is sent to the phone and a reboot is then required for 4G to be activated.
Does anyone know?
I would call Three, but they are shocking with the easiest of questions - so I think this would blow their mind.
Many thanks!
Hi
I not in london but in cardiff and h3g were testing 4g and no message or reboot was needed.

Hi Kieron,
Im running 4.1.2 baseband version N7105NEDMA1 Build number JZ054K.N7105XXDMB2 and have a N7105 LTE on Three UK, and am awaiting 4G to become active
I would just like to confirm this is what you are using as you have confirmed 4G Is working for you - or if anyone else has THREE 4G working on their N7105 what their baseband and build number is so that i can confirm im running the correct one to receive the update? Many thanks
It doesn't matter what ROM you are using I've found out.
There is no software update or any other change to the phone, an update is done on the network side only.
Mine switched on without notification or reboot.
Very strong in Central London and 40MB down and 20MB up.
You just need to wait your turn sadly.
