I hope someone can advise me. I am new to rooting and I have followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066972 and done as advised(to the book). My rooting was successful. I am using windows 7 64 bit.
One of the reasons I wanted to root was so I could restart and not shutdown - this option currently available on the tab by default.
I have one major problem and I don't know if the error occurred since rooting the Archos 80 Cobalt tab.
When I restart the tab the page etc load correctly and the wallpaper fills the screen. After a short refresh I have a black bar appear to the right in landscape mode. When I flip the pad vertically the error no longer occurs. However, when I load apps (both in landscape and vertically) they open correctly and fill the whole screen - no errors, they work perfectly, error only in home screens. No errors what so ever in vertical position.
When I change the wallpaper all is normal and sometimes not. This never happened before rooting. I reset the tab again when this error 1st occurred (after rooting) and left the default wall paper. All was working fine - when I swiped screens. Reinstalled all apps - all worked fine. I was able to swipe the screen and no errors occurred (tabs in black bar to right) and then changed the wall paper and then the problem arose again.
When restart, page loads/wallpaper loads up fine (fills whole screen), only shortly thereafter to 'refresh' and the bar to reappear and when I swipe screen for the error to occur. When I swipe screen I get the icons in the black bar.
I hope someone can advise if the rooting has caused problems or it's a software conflict since I have been installing apps, I'd be most grateful!
It seems the screen shifts slightly to the left - hence the black bar and icon issues.

Update:
I decided to unroot phone (don't know why) and then re root. Still had same problem. But messed around again and manged to brick tab. Tab kept restarting even when I switched off...followed advice given in above thread re ''Recovering "Bricked" Achos 80 Cobalt to Stock ICS 4.0.4'' but kept restating so - so almost in one go I put in the power cord, usb cable and pressed the down volume key and manged to get it to work.
I have one problem (if I have read correctly and I need his cleared) - during flash the advice given was ''do not select any of the tick boxes", so I unticked all and pressed ''flashrom'', nothing would happen. So I changed it back to default - all checked (2-11),1st option shaded green unchecked - pressed 'flashrom' and it all worked.
Archos now works superbly. However, I still have the same problem when I change wall paper from default. The only fix (if only I knew, I wouldn't have wasted so many hours twice reinstalling apps etc) was to change the wall paper to live and the tab home screens work perfectly.
I have one problem now though unlike before I recovered. After installing quite a few apps I get not enough space and then I have to move some of the apps to SD card; but there is no SD card.
Can some one please advise if I have recovered correctly? Many thanks.
Tomorrow there will be a new rom with 2gb storage for apps.

The title explains it. Whenever I open up my hardware keyboard in WM and in Android, the screen freezes. The functions of the phone still work, but the screen is stuck in portrait mode with no changes as i use the keyboard. When I close the keyboard, it returns to normal with whatever I had typed in showing up on the screen. However, the screen works fine if the keyboard is part/almost all of the way out and sometimes when tilted. There is only an issue when the slider is in the full-out position.
It was working totally fine until I flashed Jackos EVO Full 1.2.0 (5/1/11). I proceeded to do a Task 29 and flashed the Apr. 26 Energy Cookie v2.0 29020 and the problem persists.
In addition with Android, I have tried nearly every version of it (both system.ext2 and CWM) with the same results. However, in Android, the screen glitches and 5-10 pixel wide vertical lines with the correct image appear on it.
Please help!
Did you find any solution with this? I am experiencing the same issue. If the keyboard is open the screen stops updating. If I slide the keyboard in the slightest amount the screen begins to work again. I haven't done any software changes and I am still running the stock 2.0 ATT rom. Same as you whatever I have typed or done while the screen was frozen updates as soon as I close the keyboard.
I suspect that there is something broken in the phone like a cable. Just trying to get some ideas of what part I might need to buy and how to change it.
Thanks in advance.
Ed
It sounds like the keyboard ribbon cable is not properly seated. This would cause the lockup when it is fully extended in the keyboard.
I recently got HTC one x in UK and it was fine so far now I started receiving Loading screen often. After seeing various forums I removed the calendar widgets with the hope of not getting he loading screen again but no luck. Any one had this problem or any suggestions?

Hi,
Not sure if you still have this problem, but I solved my friend's X by backup and factory reset. after restart, tested opening apps then home button, no more Loading..., then restored.
Hope this helps.
Thanks dansoh, Same I did and it started working fine but my worry is why the new phone needed such factory restore?
I already did a factory reset on mine and it still happens. I think when the phone runs out of ram, it may have randomly closed the home screen and so it needs to "load" again.
This sometimes happens with my galaxy nexus as well.
I had my homescreen always reloading again to.
Found out it had something to do with the setting: Options\Developer options, and there the 3rd option from below, don't save activities (not sure how it is displayed in the English version).
It should not be selected, otherwise it reloads the homescreen everytime.
I see that option. By the sound of it, i think it disables multi tasking?

i got the same problem too and it was yesterday it started as there was a new software update and i accepted and ever since, when i hit the home icon on the phone it says loading every time.. i followed all the tips of putting everything to 4 processors and turning off activity in the background and no luck.. i have noticed that when i go onto the task manager i have constantly over 641mb running even when i stop all and refresh.. where as before i updated it it was around the 300mb ... can i get the old version instead of 4.0.4 ? or is there another way ? thanks
Hi guys I'm a new registered user, but an old follower. I'm here for a strange problem of my GN. In practice, when I open settings, play store, the browser, a strange thing happens: in pictures of gray, blue, white colours, appears in the background a picture of a conversation WhatsApp with the keyboard open (I came to this conclusion after 34503430 observations and it I'm 100% sure it is an old screenshoot, among other things deleted from WhatsApp). So i have done full wipes and also a super wipe and installed other roms but the problem persists. An other strange thing is that when i do a screenshoot the problem in the .png image doesn't appear. So i have taken some pictures with my S3 for showing you the problem. I don't think that could be an hardware issue, because the phone is very fast and smooth, the resolution and the colours are very amazing and all works perfectly. For me there is a partition of this file in the system files. So what could i do?
Thank you for reading and for your time, i've search but no info about that, thank you.

I'm triing to restart my phone from the original version and then i'll reinstall all. But if it will not work what could i do?
That's called a screen burn-in.
Do not use your phone all the time at maximum brightness. To fix this issue, try to put your phone for like 20seconds on a 100% white image covering the entire screen (including the navigation bar). It helped to remove my screen burn-in's
Although I never had the problem that my KEYBOARD O___O got burned in but I had it with the navigation bar but I fixed it very easily with someone's app (don't remember it's name but a user on XDA on the Galaxy Nexus forum posted it to fix the screen issue)

initially thank you for reply. So i'm reinstalling all the system now. The problem is not solved. Now i try your method. I must only set a 100 white image for 20 minutes at 100% of luminosity at full screen? i hope to resolve, many thanks for now.
I'm using tools for remove this problem, so what's the best for you?
Hi! I'm hoping someone can help as rerooting and/or even backing up my data is not an option with my computer out of commission. I'm on a rooted Kindle Fire HD (the original one from 2012; this thing's so old it's got burn in problems on the screen) with firmware 8.4.3 and seem to have accidentally broken the lock screen ads. I want them back, as the placeholder is ugly and I'm one of those people who like them. Here's what happened:
Yesterday, the calendar app icon in my favorites menu (which I use as a quick way to see the date while in an app) turned into a corrupted-looking grey blob. Being sick and not thinking logically, I freaked out thinking the glitch was permanent and googled ways to fix it. One site said to go to the app manager and clear data and cache of the app called Launcher...
Not only did that not work, but suddenly my kindle went through the registration screen! But, thankfully, it already knew who I was ('this kindle is registered to [My Name], is that correct' or somesuch). It then gave me the tutorial screen like when you first register a kindle... But after that went right to my home screen with everything still set up and installed. I lost zero data that I know of and only a handful of settings-- most notably the one to turn off 'customers also bought...' on the home screen. All I had to do was set that again and it took effect. Today, at midnight, the icon for the calendar came back since it changed to display the new date. But I've got another problem I can't seem to solve.
Now, my lock screen takes a moment too long (usually no more than a second or two, thankfully, but sometimes a mini eternity) to come on, and when it does it has a generic, ugly image that says to verify my kindle is registered and connected to wifi. It is both registered and connected-- in fact, I'm using it right now to type this. I want the special offers back, but it still hasn't downloaded new ones or shown any indication that it can anymore.
I checked, and there were no system/assets and system/.assets folders, which i know are related to lock screen ad removal hacks. I added back empty folders with those names using ES File Explorer, rebooted the tablet, but it's been eight hours so far and no change. Could someone help me restore the lock screen ads? Maybe provide the relevant files/folders to put in assets if that would help and not carry a notable risk of bricking?
Okay this has bugged the heck out of me for ages, maybe someone knows the answer to it.
The top notification bar (and sometimes the row underneath in certain apps) sometimes is completely unpressable, as if it's being blocked. I should note this happens on my Note 7, but has also occurred on my Note 3, my old S2 and even the S7. Which makes me think it must be a setting I choose, or an app I install.
Sometimes, I'll turn on my phone, go past the lock screen and I won't be able to drag the notification bar down. I found a workaround (which has worked on all my old phones).
- Turn the phone off
- Turn it back on
- On the lock screen try to drag the notification bar down (which doesn't do anything)
- Unlock the phone
- Then it works again!!
My mrs had this too, and my workaround fixed it.
This issue has spanned over multiple versions of Android and is now doing my head in.
Any ideas?
Some app overlay is on top of it such as: Flux, blue light filter, and things like that. Once disable the issue is gone. That might be your issue.

I would place a 90% bet on this being a carried over app problem. Have you tried a fresh reset and reproduced the problem?
Have you also tried the service test for Touch ans S Pen? *#0*#

I thought as much. I used to have Twilight installed but I deleted it and it hasn't solved my issue!

I think so too. One example I have an issue with is the offscreen memo function. I pull the stylus out and can write on the screen off, but the row of buttons along the top NEVER work! But, I should say on a hard reset it was fine until all the apps were installed and logged into, or a setting was put in place. The service test for S Pen and Touch works perfectly. All I can think is trying to install 1 app at a time, and seeing what happens as a result. Will be painful with 100+ apps though. I'm about to replace my N7 on the recall too so I want to hold off on a hard reset too.
I feel your pain, if it were me I would rather discover the erroneous app now than later. Perhaps a backup via smartswitch on PC (very fast over USB 3) and when you know which app restore the backup and delete the app accordingly?

By pure luck. I found it. 3 years of pain and I nailed the bugger! Something you said triggered a thought process.
It was....
Cerberus security! An app that automatically hides itself from the draw once it's installed so usually never crossed my mind.
Disabling the "Block Status bar" feature in Cerberus fixed it.
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for this (both of you).
good for you!
