Hello to all - does anyone know what the Chameleon has FC error means. I did try to flash the LK8 and I know that may cause it. However I did just unroot and I am still getting the error? Any ideas?

See the update lk8 update Zip thread. Another member who I can't remember at the moment figured it out. The fix is to odin ljc using a tar or the stock restore exe. Then redo the lk8 update.zip and the chameleon error goes away.

I have it don't fix it. It's some left over code if you flashed an LK8 rom and went back to an LJC. I have run throught every format option in TWRP and used Odin to flash a factory stock image. No one seems to know where it's coming from!

Just my 2 cents, my experience with this error.
I'm getting the Chameleon FC, and the persistent HandsFree Activation on every reboot. All started when I lost wifi on the LK8 update zip (I was rooted, thanks to Voodoo OTA rootkeep), and tried to get back to LJC...
I'll quote myself from another post (written in a slight daze late last night:

interestingly, it didn't fix it... "preparing network", "hands free" and chameleon FC on every reboot. this is after the rooted full restore OC. what am I missing? weird.
(history: I was rooted stock w/ twrp from the mskip toolkit method of rooting, got rid of twrp using the mrRobinson stock w/ root, and flashed the sxtp update to lk8, got a wifi failbug and tried to get back to stock rooted using mrRobinson and started getting this issue. lol. ok. so... one-clicked your rooted full restore, still there. is that even possible?)
well, my phone seems to work, as long as I don't reboot.
but I find it worrisome.
have to sleep for work now, but if you had any advice for things to try when I wake up, let me know? thanks dood.

And this morning, I tried the following:
Installed TWRP with GooManage, restored a BU from my orig rooting using the toolkit, no luck, same two errors.
So then I OneClicked the Full Restore (SPH-L900_LJC_Stock_Restore.exe), and wtf, still there.
As I mentioned in my quote, it (the Note2) works, not broken, but I find the persistent error worrisome.
I am open to criticism, suggestions, whatever. What am I missing?
I feel exactly how you do. The phone works but the errors are bothering me.

I suppose that it's worth noting that I get no errors whatsoever on flashing, OneClicks, or Odins. Although, on stock recovery (I think?) I seem to remember seeing the Android on its back w/ a red triangle?
Confounded. :banghead:
Ive never had to do a logcat, but willing to do whatever it takes on the direction from a Dev or one of our esteemed Contributors, if it will help solve my (and obviously several others) issue.

Sprint is apparently replacing these for this error. If you go into the store and have them look at it. I've been told that Sprint is replacing these devices as there is no fix until the OTA is released. That's just what I heard.
I would definitely be back to stock before paying then a visit.

Do you have the download link for the ALJ1? I'm gonna try that to see if it work.
I went back to lj1 and let it update to ljc. Errors stuck around. Only way I've avoid the errors is by leaving phone with lk8 which lucky for me works perfectly.

If it's stock and unrooted how did it get Ma4 on it? Did you force it on? Cause I don't think that ever was released from sprint? I would think that you would Odin back to completely stock LJ7 and let the OTA for MA6 to come in on its own. Since obviously root is not a concern.

I'm a bit confused here about the best way to upgrade to MA7 with the least amount of possible issues. I have a few questions that will hopefully help me clear up my confusion. I have searched thru some of the MA7 threads but can't find definitive answers. I am currently rooted running WHOMP 2.6 with TWRP recovery. Here's my questions:
Would using [ROM][RESTORE][1-13-13]Back to unrooted stock with auto flash count reset (FINAL LJC) by Billard412 to go back to stock unrooted and taking the OTA for MA7 be the way to go to get MA7 or not taking the OTA and flashing[OTA] MA7 update.zip Download from rwilco12 thru stock recovery? If so once I do that would I still be able to gain root again using [Galaxy Note2 TOOLKIT V3.0.0 SPRINT] Drivers, Backup, Root, CWM, TWRP, Flash to Stock by mskip?
If I decide not to do the above can I just flash the modem zip from [ROM][Kernel][Firmware] Stock-Rooted L900VPAMA7 Odex / DeOdex [Team WHOMP] to upgrade my baseband or do I need to also flash the kernel as well? Once I do this what will be the affects of then flashing a ROM based on LJC or LK8 be or is it even possible?
Once I do any of the above if I have any issues and assuming I can get root back if I flash a nandroid back-up of whomp 2.6 will it revert everything back to LJC if I have the modems and efs as well as the usual nandroid back-up settings backed-up thru TWRP? Or would I be stuck on MA7?
Please help me to understand.
I'm not sure what part you're worried about. I flashed MA7 and everything was fine. I have root, I can flash any ROMs, and I didn't have to do anything special.
To upgrade, use a .zip which only updates you to MA7 and does not mess with your ROM or anything else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124217
I used this and it worked flawlessly for going lk8->ma7 despite the file name.

1) That's ma5 not ma7.
2) There is no such thing as upgrading to ma7 or anything else without "mess with your rom". That's a nonsensical statement. Upgrading means flashing a rom which means completely obliterating it with a new replacement.
There is no equivalent all-in-one for ma7 yet like we have for ma5 and lower.
To get everything ma7, as of this moment, you need to go to stock lj1 or ljc and then flash the ma7 update.zip or take the ota. The missing parts that we don't have outside of ota yet seem to be just a tz file which may be for lte, it's not certain yet. And a new bootloader which may not matter much.
So without going back to stock you can flash rom, kernel, and modem, and it'll probably mostly be ok except maybe lte problems.
Or you can go back to full stock and take the ota or manually flash the update.zip which is the same thing. Then re-root the normal way like with cfroot. Then you'll be fully ma7 for all parts.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
you shouldn't need to revert back to LJC and risk I root.
I went from MA5 to MA7 with no issues. Make a Nandriod backup before you do anything. Test your Nandroid to make sure it actually restores; doesn't do you any good if you can't restore from it.
Then use the files in the thread listed in the OP for MA7. Makes sure to wipe Divack, cache, and system. I flashed firmware, then modem, then rom, and last firmware. Sometimes firmware doesn't always stick, so it's just a precaution. Between flashes, wipe divack and cache. I'm old school from the Evo 4G, so it do it three times.
Other than that, if you're concerned, you can try using Voodoo Rootkeeper. Although it didn't do anything when I tried it. But I didn't lose root either. I also used the deoxidezed rom version so I can use the mutliwindow and 4-2 reboot mods.
You may want to use Titanium Backup to back up your apps and settings. There are nice batch operations. This can save a lot time. Plus, it's a good way to save your game progesses such as Angry Birds and be able to return where you were.

The Whomp Rom is in process of being updated to MA7. Why not wait for a few days and just reflash when they release the new update? That's what I intend to do. They'll explain the best way to update with the new release. Your just confusing yourself. Be patient or make a backup and experiment away. Not like you can't restore your backup.
So what does MA7 do that is so great it's worth dealing with the inevitable bugs?

Yeah I usually just wait for a reliable development team to hash through the newest leak and put it in their rom before I mess with it. If you have ever bricked a phone by jumping the gun like I have you feel me on that.
Thanks all for your input, with things like this I tend to become a nervous nelly. I went ahead and did the upgrade with no issues what so ever. I used Billards412 unroot to LJC stock unrooted, worked perfectly. I then booted into stock recovery and flashed rwilco12 MA7 update zip, which worked flawlessly. After that I used mskips toolkit 3.0 to root using option 42 and LJC tar, root aquired and now I'm back in business accept now everything is updated to MA7. Gosh I'm such a idiot, in my head I was trying to make this more difficult than it was. Again thanks you everyone for all your help.

They said the exact opposite of that. They said they did not have to revert to stock or flash the full update.zip
Perhaps that's actually what they did and they are just so fuzzy they don't even know it. That's what I was trying to nail down.
Maybe there WAS a firmware zip that I just hadn't seen yet. Unlikely but possible. So rather than say they are wrong or misguiding people I just say "where is this thing you say you flashed?"
If they don't answer then that speaks for itself If they do answer then whatever they point at determines what happens next. I figured they either were flashing the ma5 firmware, or that they thought modem = firmware.

Well, here is the link where I got the MA7 files I used: XDA Thread
It does appear I misspoke a bit. I should have used modem, rom, and kernal. It was late for me when I responded I used someone's phrasing not thinking clearly. Although, all three do make up the firmware, or at least most of it. My apologies for any confusion.
Nonetheless, the other than bad phrasing, the process should worked for me without having to revert back to LJC from being on MA5 to go to MA7. I haven't had issues with phone or connecting to the Network or using LTE.

MA5 and MA7 are references to the factory firmware, ROM, and modem. Personally, I prefer JellyBomb. However, you should try a few to find what you like. And yes, you'll need ODIN and all the rest. There's guides that cover all this...look at the stickies.

I came from an epic 4g too! (what a difference!)...
I personally had such a bad experience with roms on the epic 4g I still haven't tried any after having the note 2 for 3 months... use the toolkit and Odin to root and you are good to go if you ask me.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
MA5 is a leak. MA7 is the official 4.1.2 build. As far as odin goes, I didn't need it. Still don't.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
basically, the MA5, MA7, LJC, LK8 are just firmware versions (official rom, modem, kernal). MA7 being the most recent. Some are leaked, some were OTA releases. You'll get familiar with them in time.
Right now, a lot of roms are based on these. The AOSP roms are few, and they're all in alpha or betas.
Plus, what was said above is correct.
As for recovery, once you're rooted, you probably won't need ODIN on the PC. Just picked the recovery you like best, TWRP or Clockwork. I've been using TWRP and works well from that I can tell. Just remember to test to your nandroid(s) because a backup you can't restore from only takes up space on the SD card.

Questions and help issues go in Q&A buddy.
There is a toolkit and several videos that explain how to root and add a recovery. Make sure you get the latest recovery since the one I got with the toolkit did not back up all data from some reason. Back up your stock ROM and then start flashing. Modems and firmware are now flashable, no odin.
Moved to Q&A
Having issues going from LJC to MA7 right now. Running the stock deodexed rom by Team Venum and I'm trying to update to a MA7 or possibly CM rom. Any opinions on which is better/more stable as I'm definitely looking for a daily driver here and if anybody could give me simple instructions on how to go from LJC to MA7 without messing anything up, that'd be great too! Any help is appreciated!
First off, make a Titanium backup and store it onto your EXT SD card.
Next you would have to flash a rom that makes you unrooted stock, find one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
Download the fully stocked LJC rom.
Note that once you do this, you will no longer have root or TWRP/CWM.
Wipe cache/dalvik cache, system and factory reset.
Flash the stock rom.
Once you do that, download the official OTA MA7 Update here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147373
Once you have the update downloaded, flash it in the stock recovery mode.
Re root your phone using the toolkit here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
Re install your backup from Titanium and you're good to go.

Depends on how old your backup is.
You might try a current Nandroid backup to retain your present state. Do a complete wipe so you can do a clean re-flash of your current ROM. After that, do a restore of your data only and see if reflashing solved your problem.
You can always try going back to your old backup to troubleshoot further. I'd attempt the above first.
I don't use MacksRom, but I'd check the dev thread and see if anyone else is having similar problems with 4G. Sometimes stuff gets broke or bent and it just needs a short while to get corrected.

Just flash the ma7 all in one found over in the Dev board. No need to go loosing root.

I just suggested that way because I tried the All in One but the Kernal wasnt sticking until I did the process I explained above.
