If it's stock and unrooted how did it get Ma4 on it? Did you force it on? Cause I don't think that ever was released from sprint? I would think that you would Odin back to completely stock LJ7 and let the OTA for MA6 to come in on its own. Since obviously root is not a concern.

So I rooted a couple of days ago. I havent flashed any roms yet. Now sprint is finally releasing ICS tomorrow and wondering a few things:
1. Should I update to it?
2. Do I loose root(IM guessing yes)?
I kind of want to wait for JellyBean....but
Thanks
You will lose root, updating is up to you. If it is FF18 with no changes then I don't see a point to doing the ota.

If you updated to FF18, 99% chance you already have what the OTA would give you.

Well you have 2 choices, maybe 3. Take the OTA and lose root, having to root it the exact same way you would get rooted FF18 anyways (because you have to flash the full firmware to obtain rooted FF18) or if the OTA isn't the same exact build that was leaked you will have to wait a couple days and still get rooted FF18 the same way is.
We do not know for certain the leak is the same as the OTA though it probably is. From a rooted phone you can flash an unrooted tar and root it or you can flash a rooted tar through ODIN. There is no root exploit that will give you root after you take the OTA you can flash it now or you can flash it later (assuming the leak is the OTA).
Rooted FF18 = Taking the OTA is irrelevant in all eventuality.
Has anyone tried the temp unroot and ota root keeper options in superuser?

Well if I understand what you are asking, it's late here so I might not. But I don't think anyone can try that yet as the OTA has not happened( few more hours to go I think) Should start to see it roll out here pretty quick and I would imagine someone may try doing just that.
I would expect a few changes in the OTA since FF18 came out 3 weeks ago. If it happens like the last OTA update, the official will be rooted soon and packed into a tar file that we can flash with Odin anytime we want or we can use it to go to stock rooted ICS. If you want to pass and wait for jelly bean, that could take awhile. You would have to update to the ICS update before you could get the next OTA.
Pardon my ignorance but I'm still on stock rooted GB from sfhub original cwm flash. I have yet to take the plunge to ics because I don't want to flash to el26 to go to ics and all of this to prevent bricking my phone.* I thought I read once the official kernal is released this bug will not exist and this will not be necessary. I was just waiting for the official release to upgrade. It appears now that has / will be released today.
I have never used odin before but this looks like I don't have to worry about bricking my phone with it correct? I see that sfhub has a one click odin of FF18 with root. If I just want to upgrade I can just use the no data? If I want to start clean I guess I should factory reset then flash full data.?
My phone drives me insane with the phantom SMS bug that I still have.* Sometimes I have to reboot to find that I'm missing txt messages amd then the battery level just plunges. I also have a hard time getting a GPS lock. I'm hoping this update helps.

That is correct you can use the one-click to update and it's known to be safe. just don't unplug the cable until the phone reboots. also have you thought about upgrading your modem? there are flashable zips. I'm running the FF18 modem and its working better than the stock EL29 modem. I wanted to wait for the upgrade, but i went ahead and flashed an ICS rom yesterday.
Now that the source is released does this mean the emmc bug is to be removed and it will be safer to flash more ics / asop roms?

It appears that way. I know reading yesterday that they are working on it. With the source code they can fix/modify the eMMC issue.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
Looks like they fixed it. but it can only be used for TW based roms

You can ODIN FF18 over anything on the phone. The No Data package will be just like the OTA except for root. But if you can stand to back some stuff up you will have a lot less trouble with a full wipe. OTA users themselves experience a minimum of a hassle and a maximum of hair pulling and doing no data will be the same. Easiest problem is needing to clear data for swype to get that to work but random reboots can be another issue if taking the OTA or doing a No Data odin from there to here.

Okay well I'm coming from calkulins 3.0 e4gt rom and debating if i want to go to ICS or wait it out. Not entirely sure at this point. Thought about it but I don't know. I'm running rogue kernel with FF18 modem. Its been okay battery sucks. What do you suggest about going to ICS?
I have a rooted stock rom, and I updated using the lg8 modem files found here. However, my build is still at LF2, and I am not sure what to flash to fix it. I am new to this, and not sure what is flashed via CWM and which is flashed via ODIN.
Would it just be easier to put on a rom with the updates already in it (Phantom, etc)?
Thanks.
Just this. Its made for blazer, works perfect on stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817460 flash in cwm. Takes 2 seconds.

He already has the lg8 modem what else is needed from the update? To take the official update he needs to downgrade the baseband to LF9 or LG2 not sure what's hes on as LF2 doesn't exist. Then take the official. Kinda stupid to downgrade and go through the hassle if he already has the lg8 baseband. Not to mention having to reroot and fix the crippled search after he takes the official updates. Figured he was in a good place where he was at and might as well just hush the update nag.
Does anyone know the latest official rom version number that unrooted people should be running?
I need to take my phone in to the Sprint repair shop and want to flash to the latest stock before I hand them my device so they can't say anything and I'd rather not restore my EL29 nandroid and go through all the ota updates as I imagine that would take forever...

I received a system update this morning. Tried to Google search what features were updated or fixes. To no avail.
Can anyone tell me what was updated? I have to go to work so, I have no time to play with the phone.
I did too, I haven't applied it yet. Haven't found any details on it.

Yeah.I just updated without research. I came here first to see a discussion. And nobody has posted anything yet.was hoping to see a list of fixes/changes. All I see is I'm running 4.1.2 now. Off to work. I'll check back later

MA7 is 4.1.2 and contains the Exynos exploit patch as well as a new bootloader.
Not sure what the bootloader change is about.

I'm stock rooted on MA5 and did not receive the notif, nor did I get an available download when I tried a manual update through Settings. Not surprised... I would presume they'll only update those who are still not "Modified" or tripped their flash counter. Makes sense to me. If I was on CM or another custom ROM, and Samsung pushed an update to me, I'd be a bit (fill in the blank).
The MA7 update has officially been posted in the Sprint Community.
found the Sprint Community site, but didn't see a file to download.......guess it will happen in due time
See:

Was stock rooted then flashed Macks newest Rom after setting up phone i got the software update....so not sure if being rooted on stock matters or not whether you get the update. Havent applied it to phone yet just waiting to see if it changes root status on other phones.
Wouldn't OTA rootkeeper prevent you from losing root? Seems like a good way to be safe.
My wife has a Note 2 and I am nervous to even touch it but a security update like this makes me want to update for her. I don't want to lose her data or anything though. Just a quick update to her mostly stock rooted phone is all I want. ( I did change or remove some of the system camera sounds for her though which is why I hesitate to even try)

Macks ROM appears to be LJC. Maybe it's the build number then? Anybody on LK8 or MA5 get the notification?
MA7 allows you to change the quick settings toggles. (Found out in dev thread)
