if you really want to update just download either the ODIN tar thats in this forum or go to rootz and download the flashable zip that whitheawkx made.
Or you can download Samsung Kies (not kies air, actual kies) as you will need it on the 11th for the ICS update.
Edit: nvm somehow missed you saying rooted

would it worth it??? or should I just wait??
Justananomaly,
If I download Samsung Kies....then what do I do...will it automatically update?? and then I will be ready for ICS....or should I just go back to Stock.....

Nvm about Kies since you are rooted. Maintenance update will unroot you anyways youll have to use Odin to flash it then unroot unless you want to flash it and stay unrooted and stock until the 11th for ICS and yes kies will ask you to update on the 11th after plugging your phone in.

Justananomaly,
Ok,,,,I guess I should go back to unrooted and stock till the 11th.
If I go back to unrooted and stock, will I loose all my data......and is there a FAQ or step my step to go back to stock
or when I get this update will this unroot me and just wait till the the 11th.
I would like to back to stock but keep all my data....how do I do this...I see outdated FAQ's, etc....anyinformation will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if you will lose your data or not, most likely on the 11th you will anyways since it's an OS update. The maintenance update didn't wipe my data but did unroot me. But thats because I was on stock just rooted.

OK...well ihave all my data backed up....so I could just sit back and relax and let T-MO do all the updates and when done then I can unroot again.....and add what Mod I want....does this sound correct?

yes kies resets your phone to stock as in out-of the-box if u choose to go back to stock i did it to my SGSII in order to get the UVLDE and lose everything... good thing i made a backup on my PC but remember that when u flash a new rom even a stock it wipes your data thats why is always recommended to make a nandroid backup. now im just sitting here... waiting for my ICS... no root till then...
edit: that is if you really dont want to use odin wich is recommended. check here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103 . good luck

Nandroid is built into clockworkmod recovery. It backs up your entire partition so it's basically like having a full backup image of everything, apps, ROM, data, everything the way it is. If you just want apps backed up, and not your entire phone, sick with titanium.

OK...now I got it. I do have clockworkmod recovery and titianium...will backup both and save to my pc and google drive.... then I will update to the maintance mod and will wait for ICS....thanks for your help
I flashed the deodexed version of this rom from rootz and would not recommend it. Severe market problems and no search function with the capactive search key...

Just stay rooted and whatever you are now. Chances are a dev will drop a stock rooted clockwork flashable zip of the update the day of. It will probably deodexed and most importantly carrierIQ removed.

but i'm on DDW2.7... no problem if upgrade via kies? i'm asking because i bricked a samsung vibrant t959 using kies with a custom rom :'(
Nighthawk's Tapatalk
I was replying to the OP whom said he was on stock rooted. I was also running stock rooted with bloat frozen. I just unfreezed, delete dalvic/cache and rebooted. Then flashed via kies, rerooted, then refroze the bloat. It's probably different/cause problems if you are running a custom ROM prior to upgrading via kies. Hope this info helps...
I've got the notification for me to update to 4.0.4 popping up every time I use my phone. I was wondering how I could possibly stop the prompts from occurring, or if there'd be an easy way to revert my phone to fully stock...without me having a backup. I've got a custom ROM installed (Blazer v4.0), so I'm guessing the answer is a no, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
My current system info for reference:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL29-CL852097
In the event that I'm not able to restore it to stock, any info on how I can update my android through a custom ROM or something would be awesome, and of course ROM suggestions would be wonderful.
Thank you all so much for your time.

It's funny that you posted this question because I was just about to do the same too. I just flashed my phone to Blazer's 4.1 GB rom and just got the system update popup 10 minutes ago. Same setup only my modem is FI03. I had downloaded this zip file "Disable.OTA.Updates.zip" but wasn't sure if it could be used on a GB rom (downloaded it for Blazer's ICS rom, coincidentally).
I was thinking of nandroiding and then trying it out, but figure checking XDA first to be certain would a better decision.

If you want to revert back to stock, just check the android development forum. there are many posts by rwilco with different versions of stock TouchWiz. You might need to go back a bit to find GB.
the one-click files are about as easy as it gets for flashing.
I started off flashing these stock rooted updates instead of waiting for the OTA updates and haven't had an update notification since.
of course I'm on CM10 JB nights now, but still no notifications...
p.s. backups are not required, just recommended.
Just flashed the disable.ota.update zip. Phone booted up fine.
You can also just accept the update. It won't work and your phone with freeze but after pulling the battery the annoying ota is gone. I think it may come back in about a week.

Alright, so I've flashed the stock EL29 TW Kernel, but I've still got blazer v4.0? What am I doing wrong here?
Yeah, so it hasn't worked. Still getting the ota update prompt, still running Blazer v4.0 for some reason. Any ideas?
Just accept the update. It will go away and you should still have your Rom.

You need to flash an actual rom. But before you do that backup anything important and then use calkulins format all before you flash whatever rom. If you don't wipe some stuff might be broken or killing your battery. Changing the kernel won't change your rom.

So, I need to flash a ROM. What about after that? How do I get from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4? Any specific ROM you would recommend for this quick hop?
I'm a bit confused here about the best way to upgrade to MA7 with the least amount of possible issues. I have a few questions that will hopefully help me clear up my confusion. I have searched thru some of the MA7 threads but can't find definitive answers. I am currently rooted running WHOMP 2.6 with TWRP recovery. Here's my questions:
Would using [ROM][RESTORE][1-13-13]Back to unrooted stock with auto flash count reset (FINAL LJC) by Billard412 to go back to stock unrooted and taking the OTA for MA7 be the way to go to get MA7 or not taking the OTA and flashing[OTA] MA7 update.zip Download from rwilco12 thru stock recovery? If so once I do that would I still be able to gain root again using [Galaxy Note2 TOOLKIT V3.0.0 SPRINT] Drivers, Backup, Root, CWM, TWRP, Flash to Stock by mskip?
If I decide not to do the above can I just flash the modem zip from [ROM][Kernel][Firmware] Stock-Rooted L900VPAMA7 Odex / DeOdex [Team WHOMP] to upgrade my baseband or do I need to also flash the kernel as well? Once I do this what will be the affects of then flashing a ROM based on LJC or LK8 be or is it even possible?
Once I do any of the above if I have any issues and assuming I can get root back if I flash a nandroid back-up of whomp 2.6 will it revert everything back to LJC if I have the modems and efs as well as the usual nandroid back-up settings backed-up thru TWRP? Or would I be stuck on MA7?
Please help me to understand.
I'm not sure what part you're worried about. I flashed MA7 and everything was fine. I have root, I can flash any ROMs, and I didn't have to do anything special.
To upgrade, use a .zip which only updates you to MA7 and does not mess with your ROM or anything else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124217
I used this and it worked flawlessly for going lk8->ma7 despite the file name.

1) That's ma5 not ma7.
2) There is no such thing as upgrading to ma7 or anything else without "mess with your rom". That's a nonsensical statement. Upgrading means flashing a rom which means completely obliterating it with a new replacement.
There is no equivalent all-in-one for ma7 yet like we have for ma5 and lower.
To get everything ma7, as of this moment, you need to go to stock lj1 or ljc and then flash the ma7 update.zip or take the ota. The missing parts that we don't have outside of ota yet seem to be just a tz file which may be for lte, it's not certain yet. And a new bootloader which may not matter much.
So without going back to stock you can flash rom, kernel, and modem, and it'll probably mostly be ok except maybe lte problems.
Or you can go back to full stock and take the ota or manually flash the update.zip which is the same thing. Then re-root the normal way like with cfroot. Then you'll be fully ma7 for all parts.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
you shouldn't need to revert back to LJC and risk I root.
I went from MA5 to MA7 with no issues. Make a Nandriod backup before you do anything. Test your Nandroid to make sure it actually restores; doesn't do you any good if you can't restore from it.
Then use the files in the thread listed in the OP for MA7. Makes sure to wipe Divack, cache, and system. I flashed firmware, then modem, then rom, and last firmware. Sometimes firmware doesn't always stick, so it's just a precaution. Between flashes, wipe divack and cache. I'm old school from the Evo 4G, so it do it three times.
Other than that, if you're concerned, you can try using Voodoo Rootkeeper. Although it didn't do anything when I tried it. But I didn't lose root either. I also used the deoxidezed rom version so I can use the mutliwindow and 4-2 reboot mods.
You may want to use Titanium Backup to back up your apps and settings. There are nice batch operations. This can save a lot time. Plus, it's a good way to save your game progesses such as Angry Birds and be able to return where you were.

The Whomp Rom is in process of being updated to MA7. Why not wait for a few days and just reflash when they release the new update? That's what I intend to do. They'll explain the best way to update with the new release. Your just confusing yourself. Be patient or make a backup and experiment away. Not like you can't restore your backup.
So what does MA7 do that is so great it's worth dealing with the inevitable bugs?

Yeah I usually just wait for a reliable development team to hash through the newest leak and put it in their rom before I mess with it. If you have ever bricked a phone by jumping the gun like I have you feel me on that.
Thanks all for your input, with things like this I tend to become a nervous nelly. I went ahead and did the upgrade with no issues what so ever. I used Billards412 unroot to LJC stock unrooted, worked perfectly. I then booted into stock recovery and flashed rwilco12 MA7 update zip, which worked flawlessly. After that I used mskips toolkit 3.0 to root using option 42 and LJC tar, root aquired and now I'm back in business accept now everything is updated to MA7. Gosh I'm such a idiot, in my head I was trying to make this more difficult than it was. Again thanks you everyone for all your help.
No you were smart to make sure about everything before firing. That's why it worked.

They said the exact opposite of that. They said they did not have to revert to stock or flash the full update.zip
Perhaps that's actually what they did and they are just so fuzzy they don't even know it. That's what I was trying to nail down.
Maybe there WAS a firmware zip that I just hadn't seen yet. Unlikely but possible. So rather than say they are wrong or misguiding people I just say "where is this thing you say you flashed?"
If they don't answer then that speaks for itself If they do answer then whatever they point at determines what happens next. I figured they either were flashing the ma5 firmware, or that they thought modem = firmware.

Well, here is the link where I got the MA7 files I used: XDA Thread
It does appear I misspoke a bit. I should have used modem, rom, and kernal. It was late for me when I responded I used someone's phrasing not thinking clearly. Although, all three do make up the firmware, or at least most of it. My apologies for any confusion.
Nonetheless, the other than bad phrasing, the process should worked for me without having to revert back to LJC from being on MA5 to go to MA7. I haven't had issues with phone or connecting to the Network or using LTE.
Ok so this is my first post but have been lurking around these parts for years, and am no stranger to Rooting phones or flashing ROMs and Kernels. Can't post directly to the Wicked Sensations thread so I'm hoping to get some advice 'cause I'm stumped...
I've been running Wicked Sensations ROM MD4 V5.0 for months and decided to Check out the new TW4.3 MK3 Version.
Followed directions... backed up onto my external SD..... did a full wipe (System, Data, Dalvik, Cache)....and flashed WickedSensations_MK3_BETA_v.01.zip.
Everything appeared smooth.... rebooted system....and then,,,,,,
Phone boot loops between the Samsung splash and Galaxy Siii screens.
I'm able to get into recovery...TWRP 2.6.3.0... tried to restore my backup however the same bootloop scenario plays out.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd Odin, there is a pre rooted option.
then restore wicked.
might try to download 4.3 again if you want to try it.
you used a 4.3 rom that still used the md4 firmware, right? (nm: I see the zip name)

I'm downloading the pre rooted, no data Odin version now and will attempt a restore of wicked once I can boot up again. Thanks for the link and the help.

The way I did mine today I saved everything I could to my computer. .. then not only did I do a factory reset and wipe the caches I also formatted the internal memory because of all the issues I've heard of and also experienced. Other than that I didn't do anything special. ..Please let us know if you get it back up.

Got WIcked MD4 back up with all my data intact... only wifi wasn't working at all with the ROM. Thought maybe it was an issue with the stock kernel or modem via Odin... so i flashed Ktoonsez and Mk3 like I was running up until this morning... wiped cache and dalvik... Got hung up on my custom boot img for 10 min and couldn't get her to boot up. Trying a restore again now. Hopefully 3rd times a charm.
I was able to get Wicked MD4 back up but can't seem to get Wif to work. Any ideas on how I might remedy?

you might try to forgot the network (press and hold on the name, then select forget) and then connect to it again.
Did you check your md5 on your download to make sure you didn't get a bad download of mk3 Rom?
Yeah turns out it was a bad download of the WS MK3 Rom from the other morning that set problems off. After a few tedious hours flashing kernels and modems and some trial and error I was able to stabilize and back up a full working nandroid of the MD4 setup.
Flashed Wicked SensTW4.3 MK3 with Decimalmans TW kernel yesterday and I'm really feeling it... super stable for a 1st Beta release. Barring a cpl random app fc's and the fact I can't seem to figure out how to install a wallpaper onto the lockscreen.. it's badass. MAD props to Dazed and Team Wicked on the ROM.. it far exceeds my expectations and am fired up to see where it progresses from here. Thanks for your hard work and efforts to impress us....
Happy Xmas all...

Hi, I am currently on 4.3 and would like to roll back to 4.2. What is the easiest way to do this with TWRP and not odin.

I guess your talking about using AOSP? Since touchwiz is only 4.1.2 and 4.3. Now which 4.3 are you on? OTA or factory purchase with 4.3 or did you flash a custom version of 4.3 from xda?

Right now I'm on [Rom]Team Venum - STS - Odexed/Tweaked/CRT- MA7/MK4 12/29 with MK4 modem and WIFI fix
I would like to go back to an earlier Venum rom that i think for 4.2 it seemed more stable and had better battery life. It was MC2. Not sure if that is the modem with the best battery life, maybe you know. But when i tried to flash [ROM]TV - Venum Ice Reborn - Flesh Wound/Blue/Josie Themes-v2.0 Odexed MC2-7/18 it didn't seem to work.
thanks for your help
Easiest way would be use cwm or twrp odin files then flash the rom . I go from 4.3 to 4.4 roms alot and I use both of them

My suggestion is to backup everything including internal sdcard. Wipe everything except except except external data. Then restore your old backup. I have used the mk4 on older roms but if your nand has the radio img restore it.

My TWRP seems to find no information on the old file i used to flash it's really weird. Maybe i need the newest TWRP but that seems like a pain. My old modem flashes ok.
