Missing files after Factory Reset - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I had a question that hopefully someone can help me with. I have been searching all over the internet but cannot seem to find an answer to this. i was getting a few bugs in my HTC Desire HD phone and decided to do a factory reset. I backed up my SMS, Contacts and Applications. I also copied the entire SD card onto my computer with the thought that if I missed anything the files would still be there.
Well when I was doing the restore I suddenly realised I hadn't included a backup of my bookmarks (default Android browser0 and Shazam tags. I have a rooted phone but cannot seem to find any files in there for the bookmarks or tags in Shazam. Would those have been wiped when I did a factory reset?
If not where in the SD card where the files be?
Thanks!

I guess that bookmarks are stored in the phone and not in the sdcard.

Dang, thanks anyway:good:

Bookmarks can be backed up to your Google account, they should auto restore after adding Google in "settings - accounts".
Shazam and other apps are usually stored in phone memory unless you moved it to phone.

Anyone have issues with ColorNote?

Suddenly earlier tonight, all of my notes were lost, the widgets left blank, displaying 'note does not exist' when I try clicking them. All the notes were lost within the app too.
I just found it very puzzling and wondering if it happened to anyone else. I had a backup but from a few weeks back....argh.
Man I like colornote but I had some problems like that in the past o recommended you to use catch note it doesn't have the nice Widgets but it has a lot features and you can sync it with your Google account so if you flash another rom or you erase the apparently you can log in with Google.and you'll have all your notes I have it on my evo and ios devices and love the app

Damn. I love colornote, but havent had this problem.
Thanks to other poster for referring catch. Will check it out.

Did you mistakenly move it to your SD card with apps2SD?

Colornote Sync deletes my data
- I inadvertently deleted all my notes
- Easily restored them using my sdcard backup
- Problem is when I turn sync back on it deletes all my notes
- I believe it is looking to the cloud as the most current status, seeing it empty (since I deleted everything) and syncing all that emptiness to my phone, erasing my freshly restored notes.
- How can I get sync properly operational again ?
Thanx !

[Q] Downloading from android market UK.

Has any one got a solution to why the android market will let you download some apps but not others. This problem only happens with certain apps.
Contacted one of the app developers, and he thinks there may be a problem with my data partition.
I'm on stock rom, latest froyo update, and have not rooted. thanks, in advance, for your help.
Do you get an error message?
I just get the message installation unsuccessful
Try resetting ur phone and clear cach or make a different Google account

region and ROM version also apply
Go to menu/settings/applications/manage applications click the all tab and scroll down to market. Clear data and cache. That should fix it.

+1 for this but if not can you list some example apps so we can see if it's just you (B. East) or not?
The apps i seem to have a problem with are, Cordy the game, storage analyzer, and gun brothers game. I some times have problems with updating from the market. I have to un-install some apps then download them again to update. this happens when the app has been moved to the sd card, but not with all the apps that I have moved to the sd card

No problems here. This is going to be something up with your phone.

Not all apps like being on the SD Card. Do all your apps specifically say they have been updated to allow them to be moved to sd card?
You may have to move them to phone if they continue to cause issues (and to be honest, with a 1GB internal memory, putting apps onto a slow sd card really isn't worth doing.

Did you try this?
If all of the above fails to work you will probably have to factory reset the phone.
I tend to download using wifi, going to try downloading over 3g and see if that makes any difference, if not, will do a factory reset. thanks for the help though.
Before you do that you still haven't said if you cleared the market cache. Did you?
yes, i done that, tried to download again and got a message, "could not install on USB storage or sd card". First time I have seen that message.
Is this whilst trying to update an app or download a new one?
If to update then move the app to the phone first.
this is trying to download a new app.
Had a quick Google and found something to try.
mount the phone so you can access the sdcard.
Set to show hidden files
Go to folder .android_secure
Delete a file in there smdl2tmp1.asec
Then try again.
thanks, I will give it a go. can I use a file explorer to do this, because am not sure how you mount the phone, I am quite new to android, use to use winmo mobiles
you can yes, my favourites are Astro, Linda and ES.
I had a look in android_secure, made sure all hidden files would be visible, and could not find any files at all. checked to make sure that the hidden file visible setting in the file explorer was switched to the correct setting, and could not see any files at all.
Have I lost some files? if i have i have no idea how. do I need to do a factory reset?

Damn. When I found that possible solution I noticed that as many people said they did have it as said they didn't. I was hoping you would be lucky.
In this case the same file (apparently this is a known bug and has been marked for next version fix) is being stored in the system directory of the phone and without root you can't get access to it.
I'm afraid the only way to clear it (without root) is a factory reset, sorry.
thanks for your help, I will factory reset and see what happens.

phone not showing pics in galleries or playing sounds in apps although file are on SD

Hi all.
Today started a weird problem on my desire (running RSK rom). I have to say that nothing was changed or done to the phone for at least a week other than updates for downloaded apps. Suddenly the galleries (the htc one and the android one) and music programs like winamp or even the gmail and phone don't play the ringtones or music. BUT... the files are still on the SD card and are even working with the same apps like the winamp and galleries if I browse the SD card and pick the file and choose to show or play it. So what the heck is wrong? The files are not corrupted and the access to the SD card is possible through the phone itself.
I tried using SDRefresh or whatever it is called (the SD card refresh app) and it didn't help.
Any advice?
Have you tried this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tristarapps.tools.galleryrefresh
Or maybe delete data and cache for gallery in manage apps. Otherwise backup data and reflash the rom.

It is fixed. As it seem, ROM manager had a bug that placrd nomedia or nodata (forgot the name) in the parent directory when it updated. They fixed the bug and released an update. I deleted the file and everything is back to normal.
thanks for trying to help!

SD Card as standard

Hey Guys!
I took over the Wildfire of a friend and he reseted it. Now i wanted to put my SD-Card in it but all the Apps i want to download are safed in the internal storage. By Google search i just found solutions for saving fotos and videos on SD-Card but not Apps and so on.
It runs with 2.3.5 Android. Can you help me?
Thanks
Would it not be easier as it is to put all your apps into an online backup like SOS? (Link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5zb3NvbmxpbmViYWNrdXAuYW5kcm9pZCJd
Then backup your apps, photos, videos, music etc.. After that download the app onto the other device, sign into your account and redownload everything to the SD. The way you're trying to do it just opens the door to confusion.

I think you should try the titanium backup(you can find it here "http://www.filecrop.com/77298937/index.html").you can backup almost everything you have...you should definitely give it a try

Yeah nice solutions, the problem is i got a new SD. So the only way i can imagine how it could work is to download all the APKs i need, and put them on my SD-Card... but i think it wants to install on the internal storage, or does it install whereever the apk is?
Thanks!

Unfortunately for you, mate, the Android is made so that an app is almost always installed on the internal space and, if the developer included this, it could be moved to the sd card. The location of the apk makes no difference and even if you moved it, it leaves parts in the internal storage (like moving only half of it).
I suggest you use Data2SD or Link2SD (I preffer the latter) to install whatever app you need totally to the sd.

Can't log into Google from HTC 10

Hi, a few weeks ago I tried to get a new app so went to my Google Play account and it wouldn't let me open it, kept asking me to log in. Anyway I eventually left it as it was driving me nuts but since then none of my apps will update and none of my Google accounts will backup, the most important one being my photos. I can't use Google to seach either. I can log in to my account on all other devices just not my phone. I also tried to connect my phone to my laptop to backup my photos as I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a hard reset but all my older photos were showing but not the newer ones that I have taken and you can view on my phone.
Can anyone help as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks

What are you using to view your files? A file explorer or HTC Sync Manager? I would use the former.
If that doesn't show all your stuff, then I would use TWRP to backup everything or to copy files onto an external SD card and then plug that into the computer to copy everything before running an RUU and resetting everything, which is what I would do.
