I have installed MildWild CM-2.7 on my Desire but there is now MildWild CM-2.8 and I can't find a guide how to install/update my Desire.
I have got S-OFF and recovery by Revolutionary The guide I followed to S-OFF and ROOT
This is the ROM I using. MildWild CM ROM
Just flash it via recovery like you did with the previous version
Will flashing the new version cause me to loose everything on my current version I.e apps and data etc??
Thanks for the reply though
do back up first, wipe davik+cache and flash it... it should work if not do full wipe and restore back up
just post any result we will move from there
What should I use to hackup TIbackup? Or is there a better one that you reccomend?

Do I only restore the Titanium I am guessing, as restoring recovery would revert back to my current ROM? and I have thanks
Yes indeed. With titanium, only restore "missing apps with data".

Things I've learned with all this flashing that may be helpful for you.
1. Before flashing, always backup your current system up. nandbackup via recovery, titanium for your apps, sd card if really needed for that you need to do.
2. If flashing an updated version of same rom, wipe cache and dalvik only on your recovery (unless explicitly specified by dev to make a full wipe.)
3. If you are having weird issues after upgrading the same rom, do a full wipe and start fresh. If issue is not resolved, report the issue to the Dev's thread.
4. Do a Full Wipe on recovery (System/factory, cache, dalvik if coming from a different rom).

In response to 2. I am using ClockworkMod as my Recovery and I am guessing you mean I have to wipe 'cache partition' and 'wike dalvik cache' under advanced?

Yes if I remember correctly there are the first three lines on that recovery is wipe system, cache partition (like you stated), and wipe dalvik. So if upgrading just wipe cache partition and dalvik cache.
System partition is where the "Android OS" resides. Wiping it is like formatting your computer. Most of the time, incremental updates of the same rom requires you to wipe just the cache partition and dalvik, otherwise if the rom update has a lot of changes, the dev might require you to wipe all three options on the recovery.
Having wiped my cache and dalvik cache. I am now wanting to install the new version. On the main screen I have 2 options which are tempting to click.
One is 'Apply update from SD card' and the other is 'Install zip from SD card'
I am unsure of which to choose but my gut instinct is to go with 'Install zip from SD card', is this correct or am i going to make a terrible mistake?

Install zip from SD
I had flashed Warm TwoPointThree. Didn't really like it so I restored to my nandroid back up. Now the phone randomly crashes for no apparent reason. It is sitting next to me on my desk and just now it crashed, wasn't even touching it. Secondary to the crashes is that after it happen and I try to report the phone is registering no charge and then immediately shuts down till I put it on a charger, regardless of actual battery charge.
Edit
More info. It has never crashed while on the charger. Don't know if that is relevant.
Did you wipe properly prior to restoring your nandroid? Also, what recovery are you using? If it's not Amon-ra, you need to get it! Make sure when doing a nandroid restore you have the appropriate items checked for restore (Assuming you did this when making the nandroid to begin with). Usually Boot, System, Data, and SD ext if partitioned.
Im using Amon-ra and I have an unpartitioned SD card. What do you mean by wipe? I'm a new to the entire rooting thing.
You need to wipe all data factory reset, boot, system, and dalvik cache in recovery three times each. Then restore your nandroid. You can also use a superwipe script but I feel manually wiping them is best.

Try fix permissions, I think RA has it under other, or if u have Rom manager there is an option to fix permissions

I think I may have found a problem with the backup I was using. For some reason the backup file had 2 copies of every entry.
Under the other tad in RA recovery there was options to fix apk uid mismatches and move recovery.log to SD.
I selected the fix apk uid mismatches. Im hoping that is the fix permissions that the previous poster was talking about. If not then can I get some direction in doing it properly?

Yes that's it.
Well the crashes have started again. They seem to start slow, one crash then like 3 days later another and then just increase in frequency, today it crashed 5 times before noon. I'm at the point that I think perhaps I need to wipe and not attempt to do a restore. My concern is will I lose my root if I do that?
Will I lose root if I do wipe with out restoring afterward?

If you wipe without restoring, you won't have a ROM on your device. You'll have to flash one, and as long as it's a custom or rooted stock ROM, you'll be fine.
Well I did a factory reset tonight so we'll see how that goes. Thanks to those people who contributed.
Well I did the factory reset and this morning it crashed again. I'm at a loss. All this started after I installed the Warm 2.3 ROM and then restored back to a backup to get the stock ROM back. Any thoughts on what to try now?
Any further help that anyone can offer on this. I'm at the end of what I can think of to do

Just stop restoring and flash a ROM from scratch. Do a full wipe (everything except SD card), and then flash the ROM (custom or stock) or your choice. It seems that the restore is at the root of your problem, so it may be time to give up on that.

After wiping last night and loading the rooted version of the latest stock ROM it crashed again today. Next idea?
Try wiping in recovery by flashing Edify_Format_ALL (found on xda). I manually wipe Dalvik, habit... Flash rom from scratch. I use Titanium Backup to back up apps and data just for these situations. Some caches are moved to SD card, maybe delete these folders and let system rebuild them. (ie android_secure).
Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for your input laraiza, I've tried everything. I have everything set up perfectly would hate to reset and reflash. I also posted my question in the general Q&A Page, so going to wait for a response back before I wipe, and reflash. Because man it's such a drag when you have to reflash when you have everything set up to your liking. But I guess that comes with rooting your phone, & flashing ROMS and all that comes with it. This is the 3rd time this problem occurred with me. From time to time the other issues is Google gapps stopping but that's no biggie I just reflash gapps.

Wiping /cache and /dalvik isn't the same as wiping /data (ie Factory Reset) or reflashing the ROM from scratch. Chances are you have some "ghost" that is affecting your phone.apk. Did you theme anything by chance?
Whatever recovery you are using, just wipe /cache and then go to advanced and wipe /dalvik and once that is done, still in advanced you can fix permissions. Reboot. The reboot will take longer and after the splash screen, you'll be greeted with a blue/grey box stating that it is updating your app. This is the /dalvik cache being rebuilt cleanly.
Try that and let us know. If not, then you can open settings>manage>find phone.apk and clear data and cache and that shoudl work too. But try the /cache and /dalvik method first.

Ok followed all the prosidures...
No go for me. Thank you for all your help. Looks like I'm going to have to reflash, but I'm not going to forget to back everything up threw titanium, and my backup pro.
Question after I reflash do I restore system also or just data? Oh and the last thing I can remember doing was adding a home page, and draging some icons to a different page.
Thanks again
Michael.

Well if you restore, then you are just going to restore the bug whether it is in /system or /data or both.
If you are going to reflash, then I would say Odin to stock to get the "cleanest" pallet, then flash the ROM and only restore via Titanium (remember no restoring /system apps in TiB).

No Pit file, just PDA. If you are going to be reflashing Wicked, I would find the stock ROM file that is LG1 (which is what Wicked is based off) or the build before that.
If you do the one before LG1 (not sure off hand which it is), then root it, use OTA Rootkeeper to keep root (I know, I know redundencies) but temp unroot, accept OTA, reboot and the open OTA RK and restore root. Then you should be on LG1 hopefully and you can then Odin a recovery and flash a fresh Wicked and then start restoring some apps with Titanium. Upon first boot, don't let Google restore your apps.
I know it seems like a lot, but you can get it all done in less than an hour and know that you have a squeaky clean install.
I'm off for now but will check in on you later on tonight. Wifey is sick, so the Wood is on kids-keeping-quiet duty.

Hey all,
I've been searching for a while now and decided I should just post my question finally. I have the Galaxy SIII, rooted, and running CM10 stable. For the last 3 months or so, my SMS app, Messaging, has been randomly force closing and crashing. The only way to fix it is by rebooting the phone. I've tried re-flashing the mod 5 times, and even wiped data and done 2 factory resets. Still no luck.
And more recently my "phone" app has been doing it too. It crashes when I open up the dial pad and drops calls randomly and I have to restart my phone for it to work again.
Both of these will happen randomly. Sometimes I can go 4 hours without having to restart my phone, other times I have to restart my phone every 20 minutes. It's really starting to bug me.
Is there an app that's known to cause these crashes? Or is there a possibility that the mod file is corrupt? Thoughts? Questions? Any help is appreciated!!
When you flashed Cm10, did you come from stock or a custom rom? Did you also format /system?
If you made a nandroid while on stock, I would:
Wipe data, cache, dalvik and restore that. Then (assuming you still have Cm10 and gapps zips on your device) I would wipe data and caches again, format /system and flash rom/gapps. Wipe data/cache and reboot.

When I flashed, it was from a previous CM10 ROM that worked fine. I reflashed because one of my apps was getting an "unknown" error, and now this crashing is happening. I don't think I have ever done "format /system". How do I go about that?

To have a completely clean install, you should always:
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik (under advanced)
Format /system (under mounts and storage)
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Wipe data
Reboot
Be sure to have whatever you feel important backed up as this will wipe your system. Make a nandroid first if you don't already have one

There shouldn't be any issues if you have flashed correctly. Many users have also noted that a custom rom performs better when returning to stock and then flashing the new rom via the above procedures. Feel free to pm me your results

You're saying after installing the new ROM and apps (Flash rom Flash gapps), you then go back into CWM and select 'wipe data/factory reset'??
Again, I'm a noob and maybe I'm reading this wrong!
Doing a wipe again right after installing a new ROM sounds so wrong to me.
What would that do?

This step (step 7 in your list) isn't necessary.
When in doubt, follow the directions in the OP of the rom you are trying to flash, usually can't go wrong.

Try this, before you restore the nandroid backup in cwm recovery wipe data, system, cache, dalvik cache
and last but not least do a "factory reset".
Once that's done go a head and restore the nandroid backup in cwm recovery.
There is a very good chance it will work just fine after doing that.
Good luck!

I think you have to flash it through your CWM recovery. Try to boot into recovery and hit install.Seems there's a backup and restore function through Rom Manager.
You may want to reflash your kernel too, just for the heck of it.
