It's an irritating problem for me to again and again teach words to the different keyboards in various ROMs.....:crying: The first time I flashed a ROM, I backed up my dictionary using the backup option in my Stock ROM itself in Settings..... also, I made a backup of it using MyBackup app....
Now, the problem is that none of the ROMs except Sense ones use my dictionary. When I use MyBackup to restore my dictionary in CM ROMs, MIUI, everything except Sense ROMs, the dictionaries get successfully restored, I can even view them in Settings inside the dictionary options in keyboards.... but the keyboard never uses it!! I have 2 dictionaries in my phone... 'English - India' (my dictionary) and 'English - United States' (the default one created in every ROM. I don't see the 'English - India' option in CM ROMs, so the keyboard never uses my dictionary!!
Is there any way of copying words from one dictionary to another? Or any other way so that ROMs use my dictionary?

Hi all,
I am thinking to flash Leedroid ROM on my DHD hoping to get rid with the proximity sensor problem (mine is still 1.32.707.5).
However, I think this ROM does not include "Handwriting recognition" input method which is available in my stock ROM though it includes other 4 Chinese inputs. I find this input quite useful and I wish to keep it.
So, I have this idea but don't know whether it can be done. All guru here kindly advise.
Say, I cut and paste HTC_IME.apk and HTC_IME.odex using Root Explorer from this directory: /system/app/
(Note: After cut and paste into other folder, the "Touch Input" method disappeared from the input selection.)
Then I flash my phone with Leedroid rom.
I then reinstall it using HTC_IME.apk or copy these HTC_IME.apk and HTC_IME.odex back into /system/app/
My question is, whether the above method is the correct way to keep/transfer my stock "Touch Input" into new flashed rom?
Does Leedroid ROM actually get rid of proximity sensor problem?
Expert opinion from you all are much appreciated.
Thank in advance.
Regards!
Anyone please?
Having the same problem as well.

I guarantee you that you can as I have done it over ten times. Just install it normally, language settings, select the htc_ime mod.
Yes jonasl htc_ime.zip
Download the flashable zip to flash it from recovery.
You can find it in plain Desire in Oxygen thread by AdamG.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I can install HTC_ime mod too. But what winwintoto1234 and I needed is to replace the HTC_ime that is in the Lee rom which doesn't has the Chinese handwriting option with the one from the stock rom which has it. HTC_ime mod is worst, it has no chinese input option at all (not to mention handwriting) + no arrow key.
Thanks for the replies.
In fact I tried to install as normal but it doesn't work. It couldn't even be installed.
I then copied both the files back into their original location but the input just refused to work. So I have to do a restoration using nandroid.
I however noticed that if we touch and hold the apk file in Root Explorer, it pops up some options, one of them is "Extract All". I think by doing this, the possibility for it to work again may be higher.
I did not try it again as I just don't want to do restoration again after installing quite a number of useful applications.
Expert's advice is most welcome.
Regards!

As has been stated before we are looking for the Chinese input which seems to be missing from the apps that we can find. I too am looking for the fabled Chinese Input from HTC so that I can use it on my Desire Z which I purchased in Taiwan but have flashed over to CyanogenMod (couldn't stand sense myself).
Fyi to the op, you cant use a odexed .apk ( .apk & .odex) on a deodexed rom anywyay. it will only end up with a dexopt crash
I've found that this thread has one that sort of works on my Desire Z. There is an issue where it fc's if you try to change the input method style (e.g. handwriting, zhu yin etc ) in settings, but you can change it from the keyboard. The physical keyboard on the other hand has a lot of issues, the zhu yin does not match up with what is on my board, it seems a little random as to where the zhu yin is. I hope this helps.
Hey Community,
i've flashed the Cyanogenmod over my HTC Desire, but i dislike the default keyboard's layout. My question is: is it possible to flash or install another layout ?
That was possible with another custom ROM i had.
Hope you can help.
You can on cm9, which version you are using. AI type is a good keyboard

Works good, but after reboot my desire sets the android keyboard as default and not the new one.. can i do something against ? maybe delete the default keyboard ?
I'm using the stable Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 for GSM Desires,
Just make nandroid backup, delete LatinIME.apk (keyboard), reboot and check if everything is working fine.

Did this, but after a reboot, nothing is set as defaul, so i always hace to go to the keyboard settings and must tick the new keyboard.. don't know why, because there's no other keyboard which could be chosen from the system.

You don't happen have this keyboard on the sd card have you?
I've got it on the intern memory..
I'm on beta 2 of TDJ's ucle2 ics rom.
I'm using the stock android keyboard since imho it doesn't get much better then how it already is. my question is though, is there a way to backup the dictionary, in order to restore it after flashing a new rom?
I ask this because I hate having to readd a bunch of words to the dictionary everytime I flash a new rom.
thanks!

Which Rom?
On most it's usually under System Settings -> Languages and Input -> then somewhere from there.
I've flashed the LeeDrOiD Rom (It is a Sense 3 Rom).
I know that i could normally change the language there, but the only option is english...

The rom was then probably only shipped with English as an option, does that rom have any sections to allow you to download more?
I didn't find anything... Isn't there a zip file from another rom, which I can use?

Maybe best to ask the rom creator?
Alternatively you can download an alternative keyboard from the market (SwiftKeys3) or grab Swype Beta or so forth since most of those third party keyboards have the option to download other languages, and those dictionaries/suggestions would also apply to the hardware keyboard.
For those using Arabic on their non-stock phones, you might have noticed that in the stock Arabic ROMs (1.28.415.9 & 1.29.415.11), Arabic had two different fonts, ICS "Naskh" & Gingerbread "Kufi". The font was also displayed in both "Regular" &"Bold" styles. But in custom roms, this was not the case, the only Arabic font displayed was ICS "Naskh" and only in "Regular" style, (no Bold).
The solution I found was due to two things, 1st (which is obvious), the "Kufi" fonts were missing. But just copying them did not do anything. Apparently the file "system/etc/fallback_fonts.xml" was different, so copying the missing fonts & fallback_fonts.xml from the Arabic ROMs to a custom ROM & rebooting, made the fonts appear similarly to HTC's Arabic ROMs, both "Naskh" & "Kufi" and in "Regular" & "Bold". The attached CWM flashable Zip to add the missing Fonts & fallback_fonts.xml.
I believe this should work on any HTC ICS device, not only the One X.
thanks
is this meant to be for sense or aosp roms?
btw, i'm running ARHD 7.1.0 which is based on 2.05... will this work on it?
It is supposed to be for Sense. I tried it on Venom.
ok then.. i'll give it a shot.. coz i hate the arabic font in custom roms
