[Q] Installing HTC_IME.apk - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am thinking to flash Leedroid ROM on my DHD hoping to get rid with the proximity sensor problem (mine is still 1.32.707.5).
However, I think this ROM does not include "Handwriting recognition" input method which is available in my stock ROM though it includes other 4 Chinese inputs. I find this input quite useful and I wish to keep it.
So, I have this idea but don't know whether it can be done. All guru here kindly advise.
Say, I cut and paste HTC_IME.apk and HTC_IME.odex using Root Explorer from this directory: /system/app/
(Note: After cut and paste into other folder, the "Touch Input" method disappeared from the input selection.)
Then I flash my phone with Leedroid rom.
I then reinstall it using HTC_IME.apk or copy these HTC_IME.apk and HTC_IME.odex back into /system/app/
My question is, whether the above method is the correct way to keep/transfer my stock "Touch Input" into new flashed rom?
Does Leedroid ROM actually get rid of proximity sensor problem?
Expert opinion from you all are much appreciated.
Thank in advance.
Regards!

Anyone please?

Having the same problem as well.

I ude lees rom and have no issues. Search the forum for modified htc_ime. Zip and flash in your rom after first boot from recovery.

I guarantee you that you can as I have done it over ten times. Just install it normally, language settings, select the htc_ime mod.

Yes jonasl htc_ime.zip
Download the flashable zip to flash it from recovery.
You can find it in plain Desire in Oxygen thread by AdamG.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I can install HTC_ime mod too. But what winwintoto1234 and I needed is to replace the HTC_ime that is in the Lee rom which doesn't has the Chinese handwriting option with the one from the stock rom which has it. HTC_ime mod is worst, it has no chinese input option at all (not to mention handwriting) + no arrow key.

Thanks for the replies.
In fact I tried to install as normal but it doesn't work. It couldn't even be installed.
I then copied both the files back into their original location but the input just refused to work. So I have to do a restoration using nandroid.
I however noticed that if we touch and hold the apk file in Root Explorer, it pops up some options, one of them is "Extract All". I think by doing this, the possibility for it to work again may be higher.
I did not try it again as I just don't want to do restoration again after installing quite a number of useful applications.
Expert's advice is most welcome.
Regards!

As has been stated before we are looking for the Chinese input which seems to be missing from the apps that we can find. I too am looking for the fabled Chinese Input from HTC so that I can use it on my Desire Z which I purchased in Taiwan but have flashed over to CyanogenMod (couldn't stand sense myself).

Fyi to the op, you cant use a odexed .apk ( .apk & .odex) on a deodexed rom anywyay. it will only end up with a dexopt crash

I've found that this thread has one that sort of works on my Desire Z. There is an issue where it fc's if you try to change the input method style (e.g. handwriting, zhu yin etc ) in settings, but you can change it from the keyboard. The physical keyboard on the other hand has a lot of issues, the zhu yin does not match up with what is on my board, it seems a little random as to where the zhu yin is. I hope this helps.

Latest Stock Apk
This is the latest HTC stock 3.28 keyboard apk. It should also be faster than downloading a rom and looking through it all.
When i try to install that keyboard, it tells me application could not install.
What other way is there to install it?
I'm also on cm6. I be in the need for them arrow keys! lol.
Greetrings,
INMHO UltimateKeyboard is really a better keyboard app. While I don't have
a direct link for it. I can say it does have the arrows but as a link, so it won't
interfere with the keys themselves. It also has a great many other features, that
also don't interfere with the keys, but greatly enhance the keyboard.
DISCLAIMER:
I don't have any affiliation with UltimateKeyboard, or it's author. I just love to use it.
Can't find it?

The SwiftKey X beta that's free on the market has an option to turn on arrow keys. Plus it's a really nice keyboard anyway.

I can't find the keyboard that you mention, just a lot of keyboards and some showdowns. Do you have the link, QR code, developer name, or apk?

searching for ROM

Hi
So I have rooted Desire and I'm searching for ROM, I like stock GB roms, especially lock screen and screen where you can see all apps, but otherwise I love Sense UI.
Is there combinated rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=89685112
I'm using this ROM it's really fast and I love it, but can I change sense lockscreen to stock android? Is this possible?
Navigate to system>app Search for htclockscreen.apk and select it Rename the above file extension to .apkp (its easy to rename back to .apk in-case it troubles you) Finally reboot your phone
A nice rom
You can try this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...8#post12995138
It's nice and fast!

ask this in the thread of the rom itself. is more likely to have a answer there
I can not ask there, because i need at least 10 posts to write something in a development forum.
thanks for reply
That's already 2 ;-)

Well if you won't go to the dev, the dev goes to you. I have removed Kies and all Kies related stuff because it was bogging down on the memory.
Sorry =\
hey Kezra, another user, that can't post in DEV forum
is there some way you could give us Swype apk? you removed this keyboard in newest ROM, which is bad for me since I have to use Swype beta and it's not as accurate as normal swype.
You can find all those apps you are asking for here:

I completely forgot about this thread. Thanks a lot mate
Hi, I'm on stock DXKJ5 and want to try this custom ROM out. I know that it's based on EUR ROM. Can I flash the custom ROM right away or should I first flash the stock EUR ROM?
Hi, just another note on this Rom:
I had trouble with my titanium backup, as it tried to restore swipe settings ave as mentioned before swipe is not included. Our ifs not a bug, but be aware that this might cause trouble.

Swype, TW calculator and TW calendar
Hi, I downloaded the .apks of the swype, twcalculator and twcalendar. Of course it wouldn't just install like other normal apps, so I tried to move it directly into the system/app folder.
I just won't move (or copy)! Says that some error ocurred and that it's impossible to move.
The phone has Kezra V3 rom and V6 super charger. It's rooted alright.
I miss swype... and MOST OF ALL, I miss XT9! It seems it just went away with this Version 3. Downloaded Go Keyboard but didn't really liked. The stock gingerbread keyboard with swype and full functioning XT9 is far better.
I'm considering "dowgrading" it to V2 again, I found a working download link somewhere in the V3 thread for it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

unzip the rom, place all the apps that you want in "system", "app", rezip the rom and flash it again without wipping data in cwm, that should solve your problem

Thanks a lot mate. I'm going to give it a try.
I tried to do this after the rom was flashed, with scrip manager. Just copy the app directly into the /system/app folder, however it didn't work.
I'll post my experiences back.
By the way, do you have any insight on the XT9 issue? It was a must have for touchscreen keyboards... I could live without swype, but XT9 was suppose to work with samsung keyboard... I'm confused with that.

Dude, thanks a lot! I tried this ICS keyboard and liked it. It's not as intelligent as the stock gingerbread keyboard used to be but it goes quite close.
I tested the SlideIT app and LOVED IT. Replaced everything else, and now KP V3 works fine for me

[Keyboard mod] HTC_IME.apk without arrows - Now with landscape

Hi this is my mod for Sense 4 htc stock keyboard to remove the arrows, on portrait and landscape modes, but only for english language for the landscape mode
enjoy
push via adb
D:\ADB>adb remount
remount succeeded
D:\ADB>adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app/HTC_IME.apk
1126 KB/s (4178147 bytes in 3.623s)
D:\ADB>adb reboot
definitly works on Insert Coin 5 , but should work on any rom 1.28 , 1.29
Great job! Nobody uses those arrows anyway!
Although for some reason my entire keyboard is gone after pushing. Might as well be a writing mistake so I'm double checking everything now (It isn't in the settings list either.)
repushed and tried to copy-paste with es explorer, but still no keyboard appearing. (Yes, I did reboot)
Pushed the original HTC_IME.apk (taken from ARHD) and everything is working again.
Which ROM are you using? I'm on ARHD 3.0.0

Im using Insert Coin 3.2.0 , 1.28.401.9 base, I ll just check I uploaded the right one, ARHD is on 1.28.401.9 as well so i dont see why it shouldnt work.
EDIT: it is the right .apk , try this , push the file, reboot , go straight to text messaging , compose, Tap on the text edit box, google TTS appears , Tap text edit box again google TTS disappears, and then Tap text edit box again, keyboard should appear,
Updated first , finally got Landscape mode finished

I not to sure how to mod a odexed apk, ill look in to it, but if you are rooted, you could try removing HTC_IME.apk and HTC_IME.odex , (back them up first) with root explorer , and either pushing, or use root explorer to copy / paste
Great job!
Omg please somehow make this work for the lte one XL , I would love you if you did. Because I love HTC ime but those damn arrows just take.up too much space!!

Which Rom?
On most it's usually under System Settings -> Languages and Input -> then somewhere from there.
I've flashed the LeeDrOiD Rom (It is a Sense 3 Rom).

The rom was then probably only shipped with English as an option, does that rom have any sections to allow you to download more?
I didn't find anything... Isn't there a zip file from another rom, which I can use?

Maybe best to ask the rom creator?
Alternatively you can download an alternative keyboard from the market (SwiftKeys3) or grab Swype Beta or so forth since most of those third party keyboards have the option to download other languages, and those dictionaries/suggestions would also apply to the hardware keyboard.
