[Q] Is LTE related to the software? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hi developers,
i wanna ask if, LTE is related to the ROM, or the hardware? is it's related to the ROM, then is it possible to make one?

Don't think so. I think there is a chip for LTE which I think it is not inside our wonder

Agreed with you. Wonder doesn't have the 4G LTE chip. CM9 supports LTE as I knew, but not all devices support LTE

Do Miui roms support 4G data?

I read in the miui forum that the roms do not support 4G data. The thread was a few years old i think.
Had anyone else heard this and is it still true?

I'm sure you knew what they meant.
If you want to make that argument no carrier has true 4g as per specifications. Even current lte is 3.X g lol.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
100 mbps is true 4g but that's splitting hairs I guess.

I saw on a previous post that our phones have the 4G LTE bands

I saw on a previous post that our phones have the 4G LTE bands. This might have been for the ATT Tmobile merger but since that isn't happening there is something else that we could probably use it for. Tmobile is going to come out with 4G LTE but the devices dont include the SGS2. Can we get our LTE bands to work on the new Tmobile's 4G LTE?
heres the source

And our LTE chip is disabled...
So no....
M&S
only the rocket i727 version has the LTE chip, and can be flashed to run either HSPA AWS 1700 or LTE AWS 1700
details are on the R&D topic in DEV

HERCULES vs SKYROCKET -- pls help me decide buy one !! :)

greetings fellas !
i am confused between the t-mobile hercules & at&t skyrocket !
i would like to know which one would be preferable among the two !
i will be using the phone in india so the phone will be gsm unlocked !
what i would consider :
1) custom roms
2) build quality, audio quality, camera quality
also pls mention the differences between both phones !
thanks for all your help !
Don't be confused. Besides a bit of cosmetic difference they are the same phone.

you can flash any ROM from either phone.

Get the skyrocket if carrier doesn't matter. They are the exact same phone but with the skyrocket you always have the option for lte even if it is not in your area right now. You can also flash roms from either side so might as well get the skyrocket for lte:good:

I think the black Hercules looks better than the skyrocket. But yeah, they are pretty much the same phone man. Just in case if you flash roms back and forth, don't forget to flash the rotation fix as well my friend.

Yes this is true.
Qualcomm's MDM8220 modem doesn't support LTE.
"Qualcomm’s MDM8220 dual-carrier HSPA+ solution, based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard, provides peak downlink data rates of up to 42 megabits per second (Mbps) and 11 Mbps on the uplink, allowing carriers to easily upgrade their existing infrastructure equipment to achieve significantly higher bandwidths. Its dual-carrier technology doubles networks’ bandwidth from 5 MHz to 10 MHz by aggregating two HSPA carriers in parallel.
The MDM9200 and the MDM9600 chipsets are the industry’s first multi-mode 3G/LTE solutions that allow UMTS and CDMA2000® operators to upgrade seamlessly to future LTE services while preserving backward compatibility to their existing 3G networks. MDM9200 supports UMTS, HSPA+ and LTE, while the MDM9600 supports CDMA2000® 1X, EV-DO Rev. B, SV-DO, SV-LTE, UMTS, HSPA+ and LTE. All of the new chipsets support FDD LTE and TDD LTE modes and different carrier bandwidths, and are capable of using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology to support peak data rates of up to 100 Mbps on the downlink and 50 Mbps on the uplink."
Wow...I'll be honest with you that was quite a mouthful lol you kind of lost me so I read it twice and I understand, but pretty much the Herc has the MDM8220? So thats a no on the LTE if when T Mo gets LTE like they plan on, we wont be getting true LTE. Correct me if Im wrong lol, Im just a noob trying to learn.

You're correct, herc dies not have lte, SR does, but i believe SR lte will only work on their bands so even when TMobile gets lte 3 years from now, it won't work, maybe.

[Q] LTE in the near future. Bad?

Will the switch to LTE in 2013 (I'm assuming to facilitate the MetroPCS merge) impact us Galaxy SIII users negatively? Does our device support an LTE functionality?
Also, if there is to be a switch in networks, would I be able to "switch off" LTE --to the lesser 3G-- to preserve date usage?
It won't impact us negatively. Heck it could even help us as it would lessen traffic on the hspa + bands as more people switch to LTE. And no our devices cannot use LTE.

I guess in a sense of it clearing the roads,it would be okay. It's too bad we wouldn't be able to handle LTE. Are you sure it isn't able to be activated via an update?

I'm probably going to have to agree with you, unfortunately. However, T-Mobile recently sent a pamphlet to me with a provided "FAQ" section, claiming that all of their devices will be able to support the LTE. I just didn't believe it, hence the thread's conception. It wouldn't surprise me if I had missed the fine-print-three-font saying "*this excludes the Galaxy SIII". It's still a glimmer of hope, though.
I'll continue researching the matter.
All of their future devices maybe. As of now, the only phone T-Mo has that is LTE capable is the Note 2.
As stated, T-Mo will still support HSPA+ as well as they do now. Gives T-Mo the edge over AT&T from how I see it.

It will give a boost for them. But I just did a speed test next to a Verizon LTE device and I blew it away. Best it by123 kilobytes

Our devices may be able to support lte depending on the frequency T-Mobile uses for it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Here's a pic to kind of show what the network will look like after refarming and LTE deployment is complete. Our S3s or any other phone that can use the 1900 band shouldn't take any performance hit. In fact, as newer devices are released with LTE support (and after deployment) it will reduce the number of hspa+ devices, leaving even more bandwidth available for hspa use.
It has been confirmed and questioned a number of times, but the T999 radio is not capable of using LTE. Besides, LTE is still far enough off that most of us probably won't see it in our areas till after we've upgraded to a newer phone.
But in the meantime if your areas been upgraded to hspa+42, you may already see speeds that rival current LTE offerings by competitors.

This phone does not operate on LTE at all. I would stay away if you planning to buy it because the person is telling you that it is LTE ready. The epic 4G touch operates on 1x, 3G, and Wimax.
Thanks s lot , and I suppose rooting it and no Rom will make it work with LTE right?

I wish, wouldn't have switched to the Galaxy Nexus if that was the case. You might want to check Wimax coverage in your area though, in some places LTE won't be coming anytime soon but Wimax can already be there so it might not be a bad idea to consider the device.
