So heres the back story:
The phone had CWM Recovery and had CM 10.1 nightly but I was unhappy with it.
I tried to flash from odin using the root66 pre rooted UVDJA rom
Didn't boot. It got to the Samsung bootanimation and just keeps glowing.
Tried root66 UVALJ4 same thing no dice
What can I do?
I assume I'm missing something and I still have Odin so I know I'm pretty sure I'm not totally boned.
In Odin I am clicking PDA and loading the .tar.md5 from the root66 .7z and clicking start.
Thanks
Fun story. I went into recovery and wiped and it works... Meh.
Thanks guys
BEST BET YOUTUBE OR GOOGLE QBKING77 ROOT S3 HE HAS EVERY CORRECT METHOD
I posted a response how to fix this
In another thread
Just download the stock jellybean tar file for t999 S3 QBKING77 VID SHOULD LEAD U TO FILES U NEED
Make sure to Uncheck all 3 boxes In Odin and rename the file delete the. Md5 it should be just
. Tar
Once odin says pass pull battery and reboot
Don't mess with flashing a custom odin rom just find a stock 4.1.1 with or without root
The best root method is using root from recovery zip when rooting I don't use the tool kit crap.
And ditch cwm that why it's jacked
Use twrp recovery download goo manager from market
Initially u have to flash cwm to root after u flash cwm. tar Then you download Goo manager and hit menu and install open recovery script then u have twrp recovery
Start fresh is your best bet

Your first mistake was not making a nandroid backup and u should have flashed a zip rom if u wanna play with roms not odin. Odin is Mainly good to revert to stock, ROOT or fix a bricked phone
always flash roms with just zips

Or try to download a rom zip on pc
Transfer it via usb to the s3 internal memory
First reboot Into cwm mount usb and transfer the rom of choice u download on the pc
If u have cwm still u may be good just be sure to wipe data, dalvic and cache first.
Choose install

I successfully followed the directions for using the no-flash-counter-increment stock+root, then installed clockworkmod recovery with adb dd, then installed Sonic R6. If I wanted to go back to stock+root, could I just Odin the no-flash-counter-increment stock+root?
This procedure worked great on my old Vibrant, but on the Vibrant, the Odin back to stock cleared the user partitions, but when I did the Odin stock+root on the S3, it rebooted with all of my settings/apps/etc. intact.
To be safe, I'm intending to reboot to recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik, then reboot to download mode and Odin again. Is this a sound plan? (Sorry for the newbie question, but the Odin differences between the Vibrant and the S3 make me nervous.)
it came back with the settings and apps because you have to wipe before going back to stock, and if you are going back to stock, depending on what rom you are using, you will have to root again.
With the custom recovery you can flash away without increasing the counter.

Just flash one of the stock roms in yhe dev section and you'll get your stock + root just like when you originally rooted.

Hello folks,
I am a newbie to the forum but I am constantly on the site checking stuff out and finally decided to join!
Anyways,
I recently updated my phone to the new Jelly Bean OTA released from sammobile and find that the wi-fi calling feature that doesn't work is a big no-no for me. I need it constantly since I am in college and most of my classes have wi-fi in basements that have no cell phone service.
If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.
I tried downloading the stock rom from sammobile and installing it and I got an error:
"signature failed".
I did factory wipe and partition wipe prior to trying to apply the update. I also put the file as update.zip (no I did not make the file update.zip.zip) in the root of the external sd card.
Any other tips?
DL zip from this post, extract and use Odin to flash.
It's the H2 ICS update.

I cannot find the ICS zip in that thread.
Can I restore ICS on my unrooted S3 without flashing it?
Excuse me for misreading the post. Like none of you guys ever done that before, oh yeah I forgot this place is full of XDA God's who never make mistakes.

If you are a newbie, you might need this guide to how to use odin as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Thanks a lot guys!!!
Worked no porblems.
Hello, so here's my situation
I want to flash a ROM. For all intents and purposes, we'll say I want to flash FreeGS3. I went and downloaded FreeGS3 and the Kernel they recommend you use with it. My problem is, custom recovery simply DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. I don't know why, it just never has. I have done everything I could find on making CWM or other recoveries work. Nada. I currently have TWRP recovery which I installed through the app on Play Store, GooManager. Flashing .zip with recovery, I always get an error, usually status 7 report.
So I eventually gave up on that, and I want to flash FreeGS3 through either Heimdall or Mobile Odin Pro (I don't have a Windows comp). My problem is how do I repackage the .zip do be a flash-able .tar file? I've looked on other threads that said it was either impossible or too dangerous to be practical. Here's what I've done so far (before realizing that you can't just flash any .tar file)
1. unzipped both freegs3 and the kernel.
2. copied files over from the kernel, only the files that didn't already exist in freegs3
3. repackaged the modified freegs3-kernel mix as .tar file (named it rom.tar)
4. copied it onto my phone /sdcard/Movies/
5. tried (failed) to flash using Mobile Odin Pro
I also have stock firmware for my phone on both my phone and on my computer as a .tar.md5 file that IS flash-able, incase I need to do any fixing.
Soooo what do?
How do I repackage this stuff into a flashable .tar or .tar.md5? If I can't, any alternative ideas?
Mobile Odin Pro now supports flashing zips as well! Just put it in the OTA / Update zip area and flash away!
Chainfire is AWESOME!!!

I understand Panic Mode but you need to step back and take a breath before you "fix" anything.
They are right here.
ok so you can get to recovery? Flashing Roms will not allow it to boot am I correct? I would factory reset, Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik, flash a working rom with a verified md5, wipe cache and dalvik again. reboot
---------- Post added at 03:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:47 PM ----------
seriouslty if you have the ability to flash roms you are ok! are you using odin or recovery?

yes it needs to be in download mode and you need a tar file. It sounds like a bad SD card. Keep the file on your pc. Plenty of rooted and stock tar files around...

Yes only in download mode and you can battery pull if need be just not while flashing and keep it plugged in
Sorry if it's been posted already
Tried to search but the page kept timing out
I have an old note 2 I need to reactivate
I have to take it into a sprint location though so i'd like to revert back to stock
Is there a topic or tutorial?
This is the current stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53353625
i'M ON 4.4.2 now
Anyone to revert back to 4.2?
You can go down to 4.1.2 (we never got 4.2) but it is not something most people want to try. You can end up in a soft brick state where nothing will boot and no stock odin files will work. Then you have to flash a special fix to make your phone usable.
So why would you want to try that? If you just want stock odin the current NE2 tar from samsung.

For some odd reason, if I revert back to the current stock rom, when I root, supersu never works.
Figured I'd revert back to 4.1.2 and root from there.

Like jlmancuso said, you're headed down a slippery slope. If you tried the same thing with your s3 you would've made a paperweight.
Flash it to stock 4.4.2, take it to the sprint store (per your original post) and once you get it up and running, then try to root. If you run into problems just post here to get help...

Getting back to stock cont. . .
Soooo,
I was on a mission to flash custom kernel when all hell broke loose. Long story short list:
1. I have done a system wipe which has erased my OS
2. My device was rooted with the binary count tripped so I can't revert to stock rom *
3. I can't go back to the custom rom that I was on because there's no OS *
* = is this true
Question is, is there a way to either reset the counter so I can go back to stock rom OR get a custom rom that has the stock framework underneath already that I can just flash?
I'm totally stuck. . .and I dropped my phone in the middle of this debacle and cracked the screen
I'd try going into download mode and flashing the stock NE2 tar through Odin...

Cool I'll find it and give it a try
I tried,
I get a signature fail error when I try it in Stock recovery, and just a failed notification when I try it in TWRP. Anymore suggestions on how to get an OS on my device?

Ok, I've been trying to flash .tar.md5 files via odin and but I get an error message on the phone that shows the binary counter, and says the file is not signed
Did you try flashing a custom recovery through Odin yet? I would suggest trying to flash philz latest version through Odin.
Turn off auto reboot in Odin. Once it's complete, pull the battery. Put the battery back and and reboot into download mode (power+home+volume down buttons at the same time)
Edit. Before doing the above, have you unzipped the tar file on your pc?

Yup, I've unzipped the tar file. I've been in and out of the latest TWRP and stock recoveries with no luck so far, but I haven't tried philz yet. And I'll remember to turn off the auto reboot and see if this method will allow me to get the tar file flashed
Thanks, I'll let you know
